2 technicians came out, on time, with a 30min call ahead and they were here for approx 60min. He wore protective booties whenever he needed to access the house to check the thermostat/supplies/furnace, 2nd technician never entered the house. He was personable, briefly chatting with the dogs even but not lingering or overstepping any professional boundaries at all. He explained every step of his process and any subsequent costs - $90/lbs of freon and the amount required per unit, wanting to know when the units were previously tuned up/filled so he could assess whether or not there was excessive loss in a given window of time. He explained that recent gov't regulations will render a/c units using R22 freon illegal by 2020. He said to beware of bad companies that try to unload their excess inventory of these soon-to-be-illegal a/c units at big discounts, to make sure the new a/c unit (if/when we replace our units) says R410 and he showed me where to find it on the sticker on the unit. In response to my questions, he very thoroughly explained the efficiency of the ducting system and how it would affect costs and explained the aeroseal process to check for leaks and repair them, even googling/you tube a video on the aeroseal product that I watched on his phone while he wrote up the receipt. He wrote up an estimate of all the various services, going back into the paperwork to make sure it was in writing, that we talked about with as much discount as he's allowed to give as a technician. He then told me to get competitor's prices as their company price matches. Overall he was very courteous, professional, good people skills, and I would without hesitation use the company again.
Description of Work: Inspected 2 a/c units, refilled the low freon, cleaned the filters with an acid wash and rinse; did an efficiency check of several air supplies throughout the house; explained the air duct leak and repair using the aeroseal process.

It was all a scam. Completely unprofessional operation. Don't even know where to start... they showed up in an unmarked mini van and they themselves had no logos or branding of 'Green Air Care' anywhere on them. If my wife was home alone, she wouldn't have even answered the door. They cleaned all the supply vents in the house, I'll give them that, but that's not where the dust and pet hair gather, they accumulate in the return line. That's where it all got dicey, they said the special they were running only included one return vent. He proceeded to use what looked to be the equivalent of a dirt devil hand held vacuum and only went into the vent about a foot. The special says 'Includes unlimited supply vents, one main duct and one return line'. One return line...not one return vent on that line. Then they inspect my furnace which was part of the special and say that my system is so dirty that it only has days left before something goes wrong. He can do the job for $700. I say no way, just do what the $79.95 special includes and nothing more. He tried to put the pressure on "Sir, this unit is going to break and winter is coming, you don't want it break in the middle of the cold night." They came on April 30th. Summer would be the next season. He's probably been using that line so long he doesn't even pay attention to the time of year. Then he tells me he can do it for $600. The price went down and down as he was wrapping things up until he reached $480. Then he leaves me a note saying what he'll do, the state of my furnace and to call his cell number, not Green Air Care. So he's soliciting work on the side from his own employer. Total shyster. Then that night when the house was getting chilly at 10, I checked the thermostat and the house was down to 62. Sure enough they left everything off. Thermostat was set to OFF. Circuit breaker was switched off. Now that it's May and the days are getting hot, my Central Air unit isn't turning on. Coincidence? Possibly. But after that whole shady experience how can I be sure they didn't do something to get me to call them back and fix it since he left his cell number? The whole thing was a scam.

We moved into the house about 2 years ago and knew we wanted the vents cleaned at some point. We went with this company as the reviews seemed promising and the price was within what we wanted to pay. The day of the service our scheduled appt window was 9am-12pm. When they hadn't shown at 11:50am, we called the main office and they had trouble getting through to the technician to confirm when they would arrive. Eventually they did get through and called us back to give us a new window of 11am-2pm. At 1:50pm they still hadn't shown. When we called they said they were apx 30 min away. At 2:50pm they showed up (3 hour late from the originally scheduled appt) with the excuse that traffic was "bad". They did the service in apx an hour, but move furniture without moving it back. They removed childproofing outlet covers and just left them on the floor. While the men performing the service were friendly, they were late and didn't clean up after themselves, which was unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall I wouldn't recommend this company.

I had purchased a deal for a complete air duct/vent cleaning for $199 through Angies List and scheduled it for the day that we closed on our new house. The technician, Miguel, was a bit late for the appointment - however, through no fault of his own as dispatch had asked him to stop by an emergency furnace situation on his way to my house (and they had cleared it through me first) - so no problem at all! Once he arrived, Miguel was courteous, professional and thorough. He went through the entire house and cleaned all of the vents - in a quick and efficient manner. i would definitely have them come out again when I need the vents to be cleaned.

I bought the $199 deal on Angie's List, and it was certainly worth it. Apparently, our ducts in our new house hadn't been cleaned in a while, and a full-price service would cost $500+. The technician was very knowledgeable and helpful. He walked me through his process and provided recommendations for future services and improvements. My only issue was with the scheduling staff. After setting my appointment window, they called three times to ask if I could change it or postpone it by a few hours. Even though I said no, due to other previously scheduled appointments, they didn't send the job to the technician until my 3 hour window was almost closed - he arrived about 15 minutes before the end of the window, but the cleaning still took 2 hours. Essentially, they moved my window anyway. I really liked the technician, but the company was difficult to work with.

I was pleased with the work and their attention. My ducts were really bad. Like Others, there were a few upsell services but I didn't bite. I suppose that's their job to ask as well. I didn't have sticker shock as I've had the ducts cleaned in other homes and that's about the going rate. I would hire them again.

He did an okay cleaning on the furnace. He was suppose to get back to me about something else and never got back me. I got the feeling that he was trying to upsell me on other stuff and didn't really do a great job on the cleaning. It went okay. I bought one of those Angie's List deals to have the AC coolant recharged and the unit inspected. There was a lot of pressure to up-sell. I guess that is where they try to make the money on those "deals". I ended up spending about $300 more than I was prepared for as part of the on-site up-sell process but there was no way I was going take the duct cleaning up-sell that was coming next. The technicians were nice but the pressure for additional services left me less than thrilled.

When I first called to schedule the appointment they were extremely busy and said they would call me back later that day. They never called back so I had to call a second time, the next day, to get my appointment scheduled. When I scheduled the appointment I was told they'd arrive between 3-5pm. On the day of the appointment they arrived around 4pm, and called about 10 minutes prior to arrival to let me know they were close. Aaron was very professional. He explained everything they would be doing prior to doing it. He also tried selling me additional services (some of which I agreed to, like having the returns as well as the furnace cleaned). He was not at all pushy about it, and left me with an estimate for the items I didn't add on (in case I wanted to add them later). They cleaned everything up when they were done. Overall I was satisfied with the service and would use them again.

The two employees did as deal explained, I assume. What I did not like was the strong sales pitch to purchase more expensive services. Although I stated I was not interested, he continued to go on and on. At one point, he said he had to tell me of these other services. I understand that, but I was busy and would have appreciated it if service employee did not go into so much detail.

Two workers showed up equipped only with a large shop vac that had no hose attachments one would think necessary to have for air duct cleaning, e.g., a crevice tool. They went from room to room holding the bare end of the hose to the outside of each air outflow vent. They made no attempt to remove the cover from any of the outlets, and only included one air intake vent on their rounds. The dryer vent was only cleaned at the point it exited the house, not from the point where the exhaust line connects to the dryer. I questioned the effectiveness of their methods and was told a more in-depth air vent cleaning that included all the intake vents could be purchased for significantly more money. They were in and out in twenty minutes. I could have done the same minimal amount of cleaning they did using my own vacuum cleaner hose.

The inspection and cleaning went as expected. The company did reschedule our original appointment because they didn't want to do it so late in the day (I was the last appointment) and they wanted to move our rescheduled appointment up earlier even though I stated that I could only be there for the late appointment when I rescheduled. They arrived in the window they said they would; they were clean and nice; they basically told me that I needed a new furnace and that I should have my ducts cleaned. They sent me an estimate to have all the work done, but it was a couple of thousand dollars higher than another estimate that i had received (although the model that they priced was a higher efficiency than the other company and should be priced higher).

I am very unhappy with the service of this company. I had used them once before and had forgotten (previously it was for my AC), but the same thing happened. They sceduled and appointment, called to confirm, then never showed. I spent 4 hours at home waiting for them to show. When I called to complain, they had said the appointment was scheduled for a different date....funny how this happened BOTH times I used them! When they did come out, the serviceman only inspected the unit and said it needed to be cleaned. He quoted what it would cost to clean, and the deal I bought on Angies List said Inspection, tune up and cleaning. He proceeded to then tell me how honest he was and said it needed to be replaced. Anytime anyone has to exaggerate how honest they are are being deceptive...at least that is my experience. They did happily send me a quote for the replacement of the furnace. Since they came out and inspected the furnace, it now works worse than when they came....it now takes several tries before it lights. Funny it now works worse after their visit. I will not be using them again.

Horrible...They failed to arrive.
Description of Work: Yet again another "big deal" provider failed to show at the pre-arranged time instead calling an hour after scheduled arrival to inform me that we would need to re-schedule due to complications. This occurring AFTER i had taken the morning off of work, woke and an unusually early hour and traveled the hour to our new, as yet unloved in, property. Sadly this all too common practice is reflecting bad not only on Green Air Care but the entire Angie's list "big deal"...

11/20/14 - I showed 3 Green Air Care contractors down into my basement and explained that I was concerned about the yellow flickering from the burners and the white smoke and smell coming from the exhaust coming from the furnace to the chimney. Patrick from Green Air said that the white smoke was from my air conditioner, I don't have an air conditioner on my furnace. He continued and said that it was not dangerous and that I should have my cold air returns cleaned and that would solve the problem. They were going to charge me $700.00 for that cleaning but I negotiated to 375. and that was even high. Green Air Care wouldn't charge me for a visit because they were already there. In addition, Patrick said I could get that price if I promised to give them a good review. I told Patrick that my word would not be compromised and they would get the review that they deserved. They cleaned my cold air returns that seem to be cleaner then my floors and the blower motor that didn't seem to be dirty. I asked about the exhaust and they said that they didn't smell anything and they couldn't see any smoke but Patrick said he had a cold. I asked if it was safe and why the flames were flickering yellow and not all blue, they said that I would have to replace the metal in the tubes on a furnace that was only 4 years old. It didn't make sense. After Green Air left, the furnace now exhibited a high pitch whistle when the blower came on. I called Green Air Care back and they said that they would send someone out on Tuesday 11/25. That Thursday was warm for Chicago, but the following Friday night the weather got colder, at 2:00 AM the CO detector went off, I cleared the detector and reset it and when the furnace came on 20 minutes later so did the detector. My partner stated that she was tired and would let me deal with it and just wanted to go back to sleep. That set off an alarm in my head, we were in big danger. I called the fire department and because the CO levels were above 87 ppm they evacuated us and the dog outside and vented the house and basement. The fire department called Peoples Gas and they came 15 minutes later and shut down the furnace and hot water heater and said that we had a blockage to the chimney and the furnace was venting into the basement and the furnace fan was blowing it into the house. The next day we called another company and they confirmed that there was a blockage and recommended corrective action. I contacted Green Air; they failed to do a proper inspection and tune up. They were intent to just clean the furnaces ducts and over charge me. Not only was my family almost gassed, but the 'owner' came and yelled at me and took out his CO detector and used it on the furnace that had been shut off, I asked if the 3 company men had one of those detectors and he said that they were expensive and they didn't. He said the their inspection didn't cover the furnace exhaust. Amazing, I couldn't believe what I was hearing and asked him to leave. He asked where my husband was, he wanted to speak to him. Myself, my partner and my dog could have easily died that evening, if not for little white persistent noisey CO detector and my partner saying those words, 'I am tired and I need to go back to sleep.' The Chicago Fire Department and People's Gas were wonderful, and professional. Thank God we are here to complain about this company. My Concern: Green Air Care should not be allowed to say that they can clean, inspect and tune up furnaces. This company is a big danger to public welfare and to the community. I feel that the $29.00 inspection and tune up was nothing more than a ruse to get into the house and sell their duct cleaning service. I looked them up on BBB and they have numerous complaints but none this dire. Yours sincerely; Stephanie Marder
Description of Work: 11/20/14 - I had Green Air Care for an Inspection, Cleaning and Tune up of my furnace for $29.00 as offered by Angie's List. Dispatch (scheduler) kept calling my appointment an air duct cleaning. I corrected her that I was contracting for a Furnace Cleaning and Tune Up and Inspection so that she needed to send the right people. I feel that they didn't adjust the burners because the burners still had yellow flickering flame and Green Air Care had no idea how to do a tune up on a furnace. But the leader Patrick bragged what a great salesman he was and that by cleaning the cold air exchange it would fix whatever problem. In retrospect, they were just there to get more money for doing something that didn't need doing and they put my family in jeopardy by not doing the 21 point furnace tune up correctly, as indicated on Angie's List.

Response from Green Air Care
Green Air Care highly values their customers. In this particular case, our hands are tied. (Member name removed) called Green Air Care for a furnace tune up. On 11/17/14 our technician Patrick performed a furnace tune up and air duct cleaning. On 11/20/14 the customer called stating she heard a whistling noise coming from her furnace. We put (member name removed) back on the schedule for a technician to see what the issue was. Before (member name removed)'s follow up appointment, she called our office on Sat 11/22/14 stating she had a burning smell that seemed to be coming from the furnace and was in a panic. Our technicians rushed over, considering this an emergency situation. Upon inspection, determined the customer's fire place had collapsed. This caused her carbon monoxide pipe to bend. This is a very unfortunate situation, but has absolutely nothing to do with the services Green Air Care provided for the customer. We do not specialize in carbon monoxide testing, nor do we repair fire places. The services authorized and performed at (member name removed)'s home are not related to this incident. Though we do sympathize with (member name removed,) this is not a matter for Green Air Care.
