Chose company due to excellent reviews on A.'s List. I had several areas of fascia/soffits/trim that needed repair or replacement due to rotting wood. The person that came to do the estimate ensured me that they could take care of these areas (I didn't have to hire a separate person to repair or replace these sections -yay!). We were already off to a good start. He did warn me that they were booked for the next 2.5 weeks, so my outdoor project would be weather-dependant. One other aspect I thought very professional - they did not ask for a downpayment - payment due once the job was completed. Their timing was right on, it was about 2.5 weeks before they called to say they would come the next day to do the work. It turned out that the day was miserable (raining, cold), so we agreed that they would tackle the outdoor project the next day (weather was supposed to be better), and leave 1 guy to do the indoor project that day. Stairwell painting project was completed that day (2 coats ceiling, 2 coats walls) and looks great! They crew came back the next day and completed the outdoor project. They: -Replaced areas where wood was almost entirely rotted. -Used an epoxy filler (?) to repair semi-rotted areas. - Scraped and sanded surfaces as needed. - Removed screens for access to windows. - Painted a total of 2 coats on all surfaces. (Estimate was originally for 1 coat, but did want 2. Price given for additional coat on day of project was reasonable and so agreed. Looks much better w/2 coats.) - Replaced screens Since the wood was in very rough shape overall, the results are quite good. Especially since they did the job on what I believe will turn out to be the last decent day (50's, sun, low breeze) this year. If they had more time, I would have liked to see the existing boards smoothed out a bit more (maybe some wood filler would be sufficient). The epoxy repairs on the rotted areas are good but not perfectly smooth, so may need some touch up come spring. The entire crew (8-9 guys) worked well together, worked efficiently, and were great to work with - very friendly. The crew started work about 8:15am and were finished by (if I remember correctly) about 1:30 or 2pm. At the end, the crew chief, Robert, said to call if there are any issues. Overall, one of the best companies I've worked with so far. Follow-up 8/26/2015 - There was one window that I was unable to open from the inside come spring, and Robert came out within a day or two of my call and was able to unstick the window from the outside in a matter of about 10 minutes. I think that if we had been able to allow the paint to dry for another 30 minutes when it was painted back in Nov., it might not have stuck. But who knows for sure. Anyway, I am again impressed with the professionalism of this company. Thank You, Robert.!

Quote was delivered timely manner. Had to wait only few weeks for service. Job went well - Painter primed and painted front wood door and then also a garage door. Front door was somewhat of a challenge given it was previously stained and varnished and I was changing to a paint color- trying to blend in with a neighbor's door (townhouse complex). The painter worked with me to make sure the color was a good bridge between that neighbor's color and the newly painted garage door. Thanks for great work!

Todd kept in contact with me prior to the appointment and showed up as promised with his crew in tow. They were super professional and had great attitudes. They come in, start right away and get it done. Additionally, their quality of work was awesome. They transformed the room into something sleek and elegant from something that was a horrible color. Todd made sure that everything was taken care of and didn't miss a detail. I am using them again the near future for another painting project and I would highly recommend them.

I received several quotes and their price was very competitive. They replaced some rotten wood and everything was done beautifully. They missed a spot on some trim and came back to touch that up. They said they wanted me to be 100% satisfied with the job and I am. I've never seen quality of work like this from a painter.

The owner, Dan, came to my home to provide an estimate and was professional and pleasant. The parameters of the job he quoted ended up changing due to the other elements/contractors working on my home. He was patient and accommodating with providing me with the best quote based on a partial job. The Foreman called the day before they would start and showed up at 7:30 the next mooring as expected. He was also patient and pleasant to deal with as I showed him the areas that needed paint. There were many areas that were to be replaced and the job was honestly rather confusing, but he understood immediately and I wasn't worried at all. The painters showed up next and were nice, efficient and took care with the work and my property. The bill was the biggest surprise, much lower than I anticipated. All in all, a great experience, would highly recommend.

We were satisfied with the amount of work completed in the timeframe for the deal and with the quality of work.

Veryl well. They showed up at exactly the agreed-upon time and began work, The first day they scraped off any peeling paint and washed any dirt off the gables or fascia and primed most areas, Rather than waiting for the primer or washed areas to dry, they pledged that they would return the next day, which they cerinly did. They did exactly what they promised. They finshed the job on Friday, cleaned up, sealed any of my leftover paint, so I may use it again. The bonus was both of them were so pleasant, that having them here was quite nice. If they had a question, they would ask, They did a beautiful job on the high parts of my house. It looks great. I recommend Drake Painting & Wallpaper to any Angie's List members from Chicago's Northern suburbs. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Drake..

Drywall repair and wallpaper removal went well. The painting of the hall bathroom walls did not go well. The paint, that I supplied did not match the exiting paint and the end result is not acceptable.

From start to finish, they were the epitome of professionalism, from our first contact with Dan (the owner), through our meeting with (John?) the estimator, contact with Eric the supervisor, and the work by the crew of Cesar, Luis, Ziggy, and another helper. In addition, the crew was very neat and tidy and they cleaned up everything beautifully. These two bedrooms were desperately in need of repainting. One room had not been painted since 1989 and the other room had not been repainted in nearly 20 years, as well! Because the crown moldings were in such bad shape (paint was coming off in large pieces - poor quality paint had been applied over an oil paint and it just didn't stick through the years), we had them remove the crown molding and install new crown (which we provided; we also provided the paint). The work was extremely thorough and the preparation was VERY extensive - it took two men approximately 10 hours the first day to replace the crown moldings and do all the prep work. There was a major crack in the ceiling of the larger bedroom, and many, many cracks in the walls of both rooms. On the second day, the ceilings and closets got one coat of paint, the trim got two coats, and the walls got two coats of paint. They worked on a Friday and Saturday and when they were finished, we could hardly believe it was the same two rooms! They did a terrific job and we will DEFINITELY contact them when it is time to repaint our master bedroom! Drake is terrific!

Based on the reviews here I sent an email over 2 weeks ago to get an estimate for fixing staining on some interior doors. I didn't receive a reply so I contacted them again. They said they did not respond because they didn't receive my original email. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I want to give them an opportunity to give an estimate. I am rating them as an A for now for getting back to me so quickly.

Painters were on time, professional, cared about quality and cleaned up. The job was very well done. I would not hesitate to use Drake painting again.

The painting crew was on time, worked hard, was efficient, friendly and they did a great job. The chair rail was installed and the ceiling was prepped and painted the first day. Matthew who is the foreman came by himself on the second day and he did the walls?and everything looks great! I have not heard from the owner yet so I don't know if he or anyone is supposed to come by to check the work out or not?and I have not received a bill as of yet so I can't say anything about price yet. I just know that I supplied all the paint and I bought the chair rail so I should just be charged for labor so once I get the bill?I will update this. So far?I am very happy and would definitely hire them again. The guy that did the chair rail did a great job.

bedroom looks great. paint line (only painted bottom half of room) was not straight, may have been the tape used.

Jim is a very good communicator and extremely professional in setting up services. I had a conflict on a date we had scheduled and he graciously moved the day for me. Greg showed up right on time and proceeded to prep both of the rooms. He is extremely clean, thorough and also a great communicator. He was able to get the work done within the time I had purchased even with two coats in both rooms. He put everything back and left our home in better order than when he arrived! I will definitely use this company again.

Derek and Steve were on-time, clean, polite and did a great job. They applied better caulk than I had expected which I am pleased with as well. They brought all the tools, brushes, ladders and supplies they needed. I did have the paint I wanted to use, so that was deducted from my price. That was a nice move, in my opinion. I would definitely recommend Drake for any future painting jobs. I understand they do inside painting as well - which I am planning in the spring. I will be calling them back then.

Drake Painting and specifically Dean, are terrific. We have 15' ceilings in our great room and horrible, 1970's shiny wallpaper that had to come down. It was a big job but Dean was fantastic. He was very detailed oriented and took his time prepping and filling in all the old nicks, dents and nail pops found in older houses. Dean was very good about giving advice in terms of finish and honest about how much he could do to smooth the walls. The paint job is excellent and we couldn't be happier. When we hired Drake, we thought the price very reasonable and it is even more so considering the high quality of work. I have always done small painting jobs myself, but in the future, I will let Drake do it!

The men arrived on time, were very pleasant, extremely hard working and efficient. They completed all of the work I asked of them in one day and they cleaned up after themselves. The owner John Drake was very easy to talk to and work with. Any person on his staff was always friendly and knowledgable. I would absolutely use them again and I would recommend them to anyone I know.

Two guys arrived on time and completed the job in about 3.5 hours time. The drywall work that was done was excellent. It was obvious the drywaller/painter knew his job and has plenty of experience. The repairs and painting that were done on the garage service door was also done very well - it looks 100% better.

It went very well. We had them in the first time in a hurry because we had just moved in, and wanted some painting done before the movers came. Then we had them come back when we realized they did a great job, and we had a few extra closets that needed painting. They were very reasonable, they worked quickly, cleaned up after themselves, and we have no complaints. I'd use them again for a painting job.

I initially saw the big deal and contacted the owner about some very specific short term dates. After some communication issues, he was able to meet mny request and send a painter out on short notice. The painter did a great job and even helped with some additional touch ups since the main room didn't take the entire time. Dan worked very hard to ensure our satisfaction and work with a time sensitive deadline.

They did a GREAT job. Extremely professional and pricing was very competitive. they have a new customer for life. Cannot say enough good things about them. From meeting with Joe for the estimate to working with Terry and Mike everything went according to how they said it would. Great people to work with.

Excellent and professional communication and work by all from start to finish. Called back within 24 hours, estimate within a week, work began as scheduled several weeks later as promised despite this being an outdoor job with unpredictable weather. Jim and Greg were polite, friendly and did excellent work - not a drip or mess anywhere (in fact cleaned up drips from the previous painters). They made several good suggestions while in the process. Highly recommend and will use them again.

Absolute professionals from start to finish. Very punctual in getting back to me, scheduling around my schedule, and showing up on time to the minute! Wouldn't even know work was being done in the house because he was so meticulous. Extremely courteous as well. Work was perfect - wall panels had to be glued back on after the repair; no damage was done to them.

I spoke to Dan via the Messages feature on Angie's List and Dan responded within the same day to finalize an appointment. The first worker arrived on time as scheduled and realized the job was bigger than initially thought and indicated that it would have to be done over several days to allow for multiple coats of the mud. Since my schedule was flexible it was not an issue. Once the job was done, there were noticeable bulges at the seams between the drywall sheets and at the screw locations. I informed Dan that I was disappointed in the quality and asked what he could do. He said he was sorry about that and that he could make the necessary repairs. No hassles or fuss, just professional customer service. A second worker came in and corrected the situation and it now looks great. Because he made things right, I have the confidence to go back and use their services again. This is also why I gave A ratings across the board.

My wife and I couldn't more pleased working with Drake Painting and Wallpapering, from the time of initial contact until completion of the work. The job was completed prior to payment: no downpayment was required and inspection of the work that was completed was allowed to take place prior to payment. After close inspection, I could find absolutely no area that needed touching up. Addtionally, and this is important to keep in mind with any big job, the clean-up was complete and not a single item required disposal on our part. The quality of workmanship and professionalism of the entire Drake staff and crew was remarkable. We are particular about who we enlist to work on our home, but wouldn't hesitate for a single second to recommend Drake, for any job interior or exterior.
