This is not the same company depicted on Angie's List. One of the worst remodeling experiences we have ever encountered. This was quoted as a 3 week project - that exceeded 15 weeks. Project began August 14th 2013 - completed Nov 25. At week 7 (Oct 3rd) we had both owners come to our home to discuss the long list of items that were not completed, completed incorrectly or completed to a sub-standard quality. List long some happened prior to the meeting and some after - not an all inclusive list- wrong style mirrors installed - to be framed mirrors were unframed and one contained a 5 inch scratch. When new frames came one also contained a scratch and had to be replaced. Glass shower enclosure (2 panels and a door) - Both panels contained defects (one Imperial caught the other we did). Additionally the door was cut to short and did not line up with the panels (we caught this). All 3 pieces of glass had to be replaced - when the new glass came in one piece was cut incorrectly and had to be replaced a 2nd time. Floor cabinet had several flaws that needed to be addressed - had to send a finisher to touch-up. Surprising that a $4000 cabinet would have to be touched up? Tower cabinet came in with a crack down the front of it (Imperial did notice this). Took 5 weeks for Imperial to get the replacement cabinet - but it got damaged in transit another one had to be ordered. One of the worst things was the finishing and painting of the walls. Because the walls were not finished/sanded properly before painting there was bumps and uneven surfaces throughout. After 3 attempts to fix (just kept painting over instead of sanding properly) we told them we needed to hire our own painter and they would be responsible for his fee. They did agree to this. Our painter sanded and then repainted. To give you an idea of how much paint Imperial used the gallon of ceiling and the gallon of wall paint were gone and 2 more gallons had to be purchased. Not much wall to paint. Additionally we bought and installed new white door hinges and Imperial painted over them - our painter was able to remove the paint. The electrician - put 3 holes through the bathroom wall into our bedroom wall - those were not repaired - because we said we were probably going to repaint the bedroom walls and Imperial said you expect things like that to happen. The lights that were installed had several defects on the domes after several attempts to correct it was decided we need to just get different lights. When the new lights came in also contained defects - was decided that we would get the lights on our own and they would take the cost off the final payment. The light fixtures when installed were not centered over the mirror or sink one was off several inches - and to center, wall had to be cut and wall paint was messed up and left was some sort of white primer all over that wall. So now our wonderful paint job had to be redone. But could not be done until new lights are installed - do not trust Imperial to install without causing damage to the paint job. Some of the tile grout was added after the original grouting was done - and that grout came out a dark brown (rest is more of a tan). Imperial told us that once dry it would blend in. Several weeks later still dark brown - finally agreed that the grout must have got contaminated and would be replaced - still some darker than rest - but at this point might just live with it. Also from stacking stuff on the toilet the toilet lid got scratched and had to be replaced. Also we asked that workers not park in our driveway - but someone did and leaked oil on several spots. Imperial did offer to try and scrub it off - but we said we were going to have it sealed prior to winter but after the remodel - but now it is to late to have that done. When the owners came on Oct 3rd (week 7)- to go over all our issues up to that point - they apologized for our inconvenience and then right before leaving told us that there was going to be an additional cost (at this point we had paid our 1st 2 installments of $12,571 each = $25,142) as per contract. With the remaining $12,571 due at completion. They said this was going to be for some venting issue that they performed that was not to code and that they had to redo. We did not feel that was our issue and were taken a back that at this point with all the problems not related to anything we did they would want additional money. Also before leaving they asked if we could write them another check so they could pay some of the workers because they do not get paid until Imperial gets paid. Mind you the 3rd and final payment is due at completion and we were far from completion at week 7 - still using our other bathroom to shower at week 7. We asked how much did they want and they wanted $8,000.!!! 3/4 of the remaining money. We were shocked. We have not paid any additional money except to our painter for the original repainting. We also asked - and offered to pay to have someone look at the slow drain in our other bathroom tub drain - We asked at least 6 times over a period of several weeks. John (the owner overseeing this project) said don't worry about it (meaning a charge) they would work on it one day while they were there. When they finally did it the comment in an e-mail was (Hector pulled some hair from the drain). The reason I am bringing this up is now they are trying to charge us an additional $230 for rodding the drain. Never discussed that sort of charge - we would have hired our own plumber who would have done it for much less and wouldn't have had to ask multiple times and wait several weeks. We have had 2 other big remodels in the last 10 years - basement and kitchen they both went smoothly and within a couple of days to quoted schedule and cost. Want to add - that we didn't change our mind on anything (except the lights because they could not get defect free ones in the style we picked originally). As a matter of fact Imperial put a bench seat in the shower when a corner seat was want was wanted - Imperial did offer to correct but did say the plumbing would have to be rerouted somewhat. We decided to go with it the way it was - didn't want to add anymore time. We were not going to post this on Angie's List - but when they asked for the check and additional money was added - we could not keep this to ourselves. On Nov 25 we paid off the remaining money - total paid out over $37,000. Since then some of the grout cracked - Imperial did come and repair quickly - hopefully that is the last thing that goes wrong - We like the look of the bathroom - but are a bit concerned about the long term quality.

Response from Imperial Kitchens and Baths Inc
It is important to us to provide a product worthy of our client. In remodeling, seldom do things go according to plan and we take pride in how efficiently we deal with this adversity. Being the recipient of 5 Angie's List SuperService Awards in the past 3 years says to us that we are succeeding in our customer service endeavors. Most of this client’s concerns were product flaws. We worked quickly and carefully with our vendors to replace any unsatisfactory product as soon as possible, however, the job schedule was interrupted every time a product was rejected. Unfortunately, not many vendors are keeping product in stock due to the current economy, and these clients are very discriminating. The existing code violation was not known to us at the time the contract was signed and was not included as part of the project. Like most other project changes, it is standard practice in the industry for the client to reimburse us for the repair of existing code violations. Our standard agreement with all our clients is that they may hold back the dollar amount of any flawed or missing product from the final payment when the room is completed to a useable condition. The client agreed to this in their contract and later verbally agreed to provide the partial payment asked for but then changed their minds. It’s unfortunate when projects don’t go as smoothly as planned, but we never abandoned the project. We completed the room and the end result is truly beautiful.

Imperial Kitchen & Bath redid our full bathroom. They were particularly impressive during the initial meetings, where their architecture drawings were very useful in understanding what was possible and what they had in mind to make everything fit in our very small bathroom. They were also priced the lowest of all the quotes we received. Also, their books of plumbing parts and fixtures was very helpful to look through. They recommended buying supplies directly through them, which we did, and that worked out very well. They also recommended buying tile through them, but we found we could get better prices and selection elsewhere. They were ok with this and were happy to do the installation with the materials we purchased. The work was done well and we have no complaints on the craftsmanship at all. Only issues we had were the tile/grout combination was done incorrectly (they used the wrong grout color). This mistake they owned up to, and mentioned it was an issue where the installer saw white tile an assumed white grout, where the paperwork said a different color. Due to this mistake they reduced overall price of the job to make amends. The other issue we had was with the tub. The tub that was originally sent had a defect that required it be sent back and replaced. They handled this issue very well - the replacement tub was delivered to our home within the next 2 days, and they contacted the warehouse directly to ensure that a working tub was sent. The issue that wasn?t handled as well was communicating to us that there was an issue. Because of the delay in the tub, the general project schedule was slightly delayed, which we would have liked to have been made aware of. In the end, they were able to complete the project only slightly delayed, due to the tub, and did not cause us any inconvenience, but in general deviations from the schedule are something we like to be kept aware of. This work was done while we were out of the house, so it?s possible that had we been living where they were doing the work, communication could have been easier. Overall, the work appears to have been well done, and they were very pleasant to deal with, and came in at budget. I would contact them about any bathroom work.

We are very happy with Imperial Kitchen and Bath. They were very prompt. They kept in touch to let us know the status of the progress being made. Phone calls either went right through or were returned within minutes. We placed our order with John. He had stopped in on his day off, but came right to the showroom to help us out. Demolition was done fast, and with a minimum of mess. Hector and his crew put down tarps to preserve the hardwood floors, and cleaned up under the sink and everything anywhere in the vicinity. Our installer was Chris. He did a beautiful job of making our countertop. We installed Corian. One of the things that made the project harder for Chris was that we wanted the backsplashes to have a curve where they are attached to the counter. We didn't just want a 90 degree angle. He did a wonderful job, even on the corners.

The kitchen cabinets were recovered and fitted with new doors. A new countertop and sink were installed. Three cabinets were rebuilt and a microwave and two light fixtures installed. One bathroom was completely redone--shower, sink, toilet, mirror, floor, light fixtures. Sink, toilet, lights, mirror, and floor were replaced in the other bathroom. The work was performed over a four month period. The owner of the company and his designer were great to work with. The quality of the cabinetry, floor tile, and countertops is excellent.

The quote was good and they seemed like very competent people. All the bids I got were higher than I could tolerate, but they were among my top preferences. Their quoted price was over $30,000. The company had one owner and he seemed like likeable. They have a nice business facility but my concerns were about any problems if they developed. The flooring tile they wanted to use is not rated very highly on the internet. I did not know if they would stand behind their warranty. I was concerned about the continuity of service because it was a small company. This company has a lot of woodworking capability, which was very good.

Pleasant people with whom to work. Helpful in making the selection. Scheduling was easy. They were punctual and professional. One of the counter backsplashes had been cut a little high; instead of cutting into the wall tile to accommodate it, they immediately took it back to the shop, trimmed it, and brought it right back for installation. After they left, I wiped the counters and noticed what looked like small bubble wrap outlines on some of the counters. I called them and they came back at my convenience, and cleaned it off (it was indeed from the protective bubble wrap). The counters are beautiful!

Larry Rych was met in the show room and came the next day for an evaluation of the 2 projects we are planning to do. We met next day back in the showroom for a discussion about the estimate. We are still evaluating the tile we are planning to have put in the powder room. Larry has been patient and professional during this process. We have not yet completed the project as we are in the selection phase of the project.

We have an 5' x 8' bathroom that was WAY overdue for remodeling. We had a lot of water damage from both the shower and from the outside and we knew we needed some major repair work needed. John Krupka from Imperial was great with us, one of the few that does NOT watch HGTV, so he helped guide us through the design process and was completely up front with cost. Our starting point estimate was for 13,000, and he provided an itemized list of supplies, and labor. Once they got in and tore out all the old, There was a LOT of water damage to the walls that required additional work. We were completely prepared for this possibility. John subcontracted the wall (And additional Window sill) repair with a gentleman that really did quality work. It was an additional $5,000 for the repair, but as I mentioned before, we KNEW was necessary. All of the workers that came to our house to work were all VERY nice and everyone addressed our questions without hesitation. John helped to oversee the work and came over frequently to monitor the process. The mess was minimal. For a project like this I was expecting a lot more for us to clean, but they really did a great job of bringing out all the garbage. As this was our first major remodeling project, we did a lot of research, but are extremely happy that we chose Imperial. There were estimates from other companies that came in slightly lower, but we felt we would get quality work with Imperial, and we were happy to pay a little bit more to get their service. We are not disappointed!
Description of Work: Complete remodeling of our 5' x 8' bathroom. Walls torn out, sub flooring replaced, designing of the space. Also needed to replace the foundation of the walls due to some major water damage. New bath tub, wall tile, sub floor, flooring, vanity, plumbing, medicine cabinet, all accessories!

I used Imperial Kitchens and Baths Inc. back in 1999. The cabinets cost approximately $7000. They did some, a little bit of layout help, not a lot, I don't know if he was a designer officially, but they did help you with layout and things like that. They ordered them, it went pretty smooth. There were a couple cabinets that were damaged but they got them replaced. I found the cabinets that I wanted but there was only two companies in the Chicago area that carried with that company. And they were one of them. And they were local so that's why I went with them.

Larry came out with suggestions and took measurements immediately. Larry then called to schedule a store appointment to select materials within 2 weeks as he promised. Imperial pretty much stayed on schedule with all of the processes as promised and Larry was always available to answer questions or to provide updates or to make changes whenever I called. You always spoke to a human voice whenever you called to address an issue or ask a question. The fireplace tile replacement was completed first by Hector who did an absolutely magnificent job. Next the foyer floor was replaced with a decorative ceramic tile and Hector again did an excellent job. Last, but not least, the most important job of remodeling the master bathroom and it turned out absolutely wonderful. Hector exceeded our expectations on each of the jobs - he was comptetely respectiful of our questions and responded to each of our concerns during the course of the jobs. Overall, excellent job with magnificent results. Minor concerns:(1) Signficant dust especially during the bathroom remodel - tremendous amount of dust seemed to accumulate daily and required continuous cleaning. Would have been good to partition off the dust areas better.(2) Timing of jobs - each job seemed to take slightly longer (by 1 day) than original projection.(3) Cost was higher than we originally planned to spend - may be that "you get what you pay for"... Overally very happy with the results and will definitely use Imperial again in the future.
Description of Work: Imperial came out in the Spring and provided estimates (cost, time to complete each, and time until each could be initiated) on 3 projects soon after we sent them a request after reading about them on Angie's List (along with 3 other companies - the 2 other companies did not impress us at all). We requested estimates on 3 projects (1) replacement of fireplace tile; (2) replacement of front door foyer tile; (3) partial master bathroom remodeling.

Imperial gutted bathroom, did a great job installing temporary downstairs, came on time, good communication, throughout did have one mishap when floor was taken out, knicked pipe and had water damage to ceiling on 1st floor. They put new ceiling in and painted and even put popcorn on ceiling like they had before. No additional charge. ED the sales man came regularly to check progress. Easy to reach by phone, entire project did take a month and a half and my bathroom is beautiful. Workmanship is of high quality.

It was a pleasure to work with the members on this project. As in all remodeling projects, there is always something unforeseen that comes up that makes the job more interesting - in this case it was issues with the cabinetry. We're glad that we were able to reach a solution with the members that made everyone happy and kept the project moving forward. We pride ourselves on having top-notch installers and service. Change orders are always an issue in this business and we agree with the member's statement to try to get everything accounted for in the original contract. For more about how change orders can financially affect the bottom line of your remodeling project, please view our blog at http://imperialkandb.wordpress.com/2011/01/04/remodelings-hidden-charges-exposed-change-orders/ .
