We chose Freeman Fence based on the Angie's List reviews, and that we'd already inherited part of our back fence from them when we bought our house 2 years ago (and that fencing looks great). Roger was so down to earth, easy going and professional... he was quick to respond, very knowledgeable and friendly. He came right over to measure and discuss our ideas and needs. We were quoted and booked quickly, and he was very flexible around another project we had on the go at the same time. We had an entire side of our yard replaced with new cedar fencing, plus 2/3 of the other side, as well as 2 new gates, and an arbor. All the work was done quickly, efficiently and with great care. The final product looks so beautiful! They did such a great job of installing everything, and worked so hard. Everyone has been complimenting us on how great the fence looks, and we are really happy with it too. We had even asked to keep the scrap cuttings to use in our firepit, so they left us all the remaining wood as well as taking away all the old rotten fence. We would definitely use them again, and recommend them to anyone interested in getting a great job done on a fence.

Beautiful fence. Getting there was not so easy. Things started out well. I called the office, talked to an answering service, and Jim called me back to set up an appointment so he could provide an estimate. He was very clear, had good suggestions, and I came away with a good feeling about the company. He said the work would take one to two days, and it would take "a couple of weeks" for them to schedule a time to come out once I sent in my contract. It was more like five or six weeks. The installers came out as scheduled and got most of the work done the first day. The fence looked great on the broad side, but when I walked to the side and looked at it edgewise, I saw that it was sited in my neighbors' yard. I told the foreman and after much rushing around and measuring, he pronounced that the fence was correctly located on my side of the lot line. It wasn't. I called the company and talked to Roger Freeman, who let me know he didn't believe me, but would "make it right." Jim came out again, measured carefully, and agreed with me (thankfully). He said that no one in the office had notified him that my contract had been sent in, and if they had, he would have obtained a plat of survey from me and the fence would have been put in correctly the first time. So the brand-new fence was ripped out and replaced, which took a week. Looked great! But that's not the end of the story. A week or two later, I was doing some yard work, and since our dog was in the back yard, when I went out the gate, I was careful to latch it. I was getting some water in the side yard, when I noticed the dog was out there with me. I got him back inside the fence and latched the gate, then pushed on it. It opened. Another call to Roger Freeman where he clearly didn't believe me, that the latch wasn't installed correctly. He said he'd send someone out to fix it. Another phone call and an email later, it's still not fixed.

So far their quote is the best that I have received but I have not made a decision yet. They came to give the quote in person and were very courteous and accommodating. The estimator arrived for our appointment about 20 minutes late. He was professional; everything was cut and dried and he was a nice guy. He was what I expected and I am happy with the outcome.

They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. They use clear (knot-free) cedar that is obviously superior to what most other companies use. And their service is top-notch. Our customer contact, Ross, was extremely responsive and professional. Due to the nature of our house and backyard, we had some unique issues arise regarding our gates and locks. They were creative in finding a solution, and when it didn't work the first time around, they came back to make it right. But the icing on the cake is that they handled ALL of the building permits, which can be a hassle.

I called to set up an appt in late June/ Early July. received a call back 2 days later and he came right out. I paid a $225 deposit and was told the work would be completed by 7/9. Didn't hear from them until the receptionist called me on 7/12 stating that the work would be completed on 7/17. She couldn't tell me morning or afternoon. on 7/16 I received a bill in the mail for services completed (which it hadn't been). Workers showed up at 8AM on 7/17 and did a good job overall. they did leave a little mess of broken concrete an rocks on part of my lawn which I didn't notice until later in the day. Not a big deal but not as professional as I would have expected.

Freeman Fencing set up an appointment in a timely manner, showed up, and we had a great conversation. We discussed other areas of potential work. But then I never heard from him again. I emailed twice (which is how I got in touch with them the first time) and called and left a message with a live receptionist. I ended up going with Advanced Fence who was great and I would highly recommend. The one project was a $5K job (not small in my book) and I'm sure it would have tripled based on the other things I wanted done. Business must be good to not have returned my messages.... he had my phone number and email address.

I called for an estimate and was able to schedule someone to come out in a couple of days. Andy came out to give me an estimate, he was very personable. When I signed the contract I was told the fence would be installed in 2 - 3 weeks. It ended up taking 4 weeks. They said the materials were taking longer than anticipated, hence why I gave them a B. Pedro and team came and took down my fence and dug the post holes. I saw that they left the concrete and just cut the posts. I called Roger to ask and he said some concrete would be removed off the top and then buried. I was very disappointed as this was not done. The fence was put up and looks beautiful but the concrete and the circle where the post was still show on my neighbors side. The fence quality is definitely an A but I gave them a C due to the concrete not being buried as they said it would.

I've been having problems with a vinyl fence that was installed by another company about 12 years ago. I sent Freeman Fence an email with photos illustrating my problem on the Saturday before Memorial day. The day after Memorial they called and we spent about a half hour on the phone discussing my problem and how they thought they could help. The next day their estimator called to set up an appointment. I offered to take some time off from work to meet with him but he wanted to find a time that would not require my taking time off. He set up an appointment to meet with me after I got home from work. He spent about 1.5 to 2 hours with me reviewing the situation and made recommendations on how it could be fixed. He left his cell phone in the car so we would not be disturbed. They completed the work as scheduled about a week later. This company and all its employees have been absolutely wonderful. I am 100% confident my problem has been corrected and couldn't be happier with the work they performed. To fix my problem, they dug up the posts and flared the holes at the bottom to help keep the concrete from rising. They also drilled holes in the fence posts so the concrete would flow into them to keep the posts attached to the concrete. Vinyl has a difficult time attaching to concrete. And for extra holding power, they drilled additional holes through the bottom of the posts and ran 1/2" metal bars through them that extended out several inches for the concrete to grab onto further securing the posts. As the work was being done, the crew constantly checked with me to see if the work met with my approval. They were fantastic and I recommend this company without hesitation.

Freeman estimated & made the pitch that they offered a superior-built fence, which we were willing to pay the premium price for. DON'T COUNT ON SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!
Description of Work: Final product looks great, but a poorly installed latch that ruined a concrete-sunk post tainted the entire experience. Called them 3 times & e-mailed another 3 times (including sending pictures of the issue) and THEY DIDN'T CALL BACK ONCE!!!! NOTHING. NEVER. I had to figure out a way to fix the problem myself & I am certain that the issue will arise again (tricky problem to work around when they shoddily screwed the latchplate too close the edge, compromising an entire vertical post).

What started out as great experience turned into a very negative one very quickly. So, I feel my review needed to be updated... Initially, the fence was very nice. The installers worked hard over a couple of days to get the job done, and they were very respectful of our property. They didn't leave any garbage lying around, didn't damage anything, and they were very nice. We were very happy with the job they'd done, and we felt the price was perfect for what seemed to be a very nice fence. However, after three months, some of the slats were splitting in half, large chunks were coming off, there were very large splinters coming off, one slat was totally warped and bowing, and one had even come off the horizontal beam at the top. I called and talked to someone in their office who took a message for someone to come out, and I didn't get a response after a couple of days. I called again, and mentioned that this was the second call, and I needed someone to call me. A couple of days later, Roger, the owner, called and asked what was wrong. I told him that the slats were splitting, chunking off, looked like they were rotting, and one was warped. He said this was very unusual, and that he would call me the following Monday to schedule a time to come out and look at it. Come Monday, Roger never called. I called and left him a message, and asked that someone come out. The next day, Jim, Roger's business partner and our original salesperson, came out to look at the fence. However, I nobody was home when he called and told me he was looking at the fence. This was irritating because the whole point of someone calling me to figure out a time they could come to look at it was to make sure someone was home to look at it with him. Jim had to come back later in the day, and looked at the fence. He told us that the discoloration that we thought was rot was actually normal; UV rays turn a cedar fence a grayish color. Had I known that, I never would have mentioned it in my call to Roger. So, I dropped that gripe. Jim also said that some cracking is normal, but acknowledged that the split posts indeed were splitting and not just cracking because I could move the two parts side by side back and forth. He looked at most of the fence and told us to mark any slats we wanted replaced, and however many it was, in his words, "whether it's 20 or 50," they would replace because they wanted us to be happy. He told me to call him with the number to be replaced, and they would schedule a time to come out. So, I did as Jim said and marked the slats I wanted replaced, and it came to 68 slats. I called and left Jim a message two days later, Thursday, and asked him to call me back so we could schedule a time for them to be replaced. I never got a call back from Jim, so I called him the following Tuesday, a week after he'd been out. Again, I left a message, this time asking that he call me the next day, and I never heard back. I called the main line at about 5pm that Thursday, almost two weeks after Jim looked at the fence, to ask for Roger. This is where things really took a turn... I told Roger that Jim had not called me back, and I was frustrated that I couldn't get a hold of him. He made me feel like I was completely inconveniencing him, pointing out, "it's after 5:00, here I am." He also tried to say that Jim had just been out to look at the fence, when it had actually been almost two weeks that I hadn't heard from him. He then told me that I misrepresented myself, because I said the slats were rotting and they weren't. I explained that nobody ever told us the fence would turn gray, and that when Jim told us the reason for it, I dropped that argument. I pointed out, though, that a number of the posts were already splitting, chunking off, splintering, and that one was already warped and bowed. I told him Jim told us to mark any slats we wanted replaced, and they would do it. He asked how many I marked, and when I told him it was 68, he acted like I was being completely unreasonable. I told him all I wanted was for the slats to be replaced because that's what Jim and I had agreed on. He agreed to do it, and said he would call me the following Monday, which, surprise, surprise, he didn't do. I did get a call from the main office on Tuesday, the day after Roger said he'd call, and got the replacements scheduled for Friday. But, they didn't bring enough to replace all of the slats, So, they took ones that were the best of the worst and turned them upside down and around, so that my red X that Jim told me to put on them is on the outside at the bottom. I suppose I can live with this because I'm tired of dealing with this issue and tired of dealing with this company. I don't understand Roger's rudeness to me. His business partner came and looked at the fence, told me they'd replace however many we asked for, and then I was treated like some kind of moocher or criminal. Roger, to my knowledge, never once came to look at the fence, so there's no way he would know anything about its condition, except for what someone told him. Also, I know we didn't buy the most expensive fence, and it's not the best there is. But that's no reason to treat a customer the way Roger treated me over the phone, especially with him being the owner. It's just not good business to be rude to the people paying you, even if they're just a small job, and it's a horrible way to represent your business. I wouldn't even expect that sort of rudeness from a snotty teenager working customer service at a department store. This company really talks the talk when they give you an estimate, but they completely failed to walk the walk in some regards. They talk about high quality and customer satisfaction. They don't, however, tell you that they won't return your calls, that they'll be rude to you if there's a problem, and make you feel like a criminal if a problem arises. I will never use this company again, and I will never refer anyone to them.

I obtained several estimates but felt they were too expensive. After reading reviews I called Freeman Fence - the owner happened to be on a job site in the neighborhood and got to my house for the estimate in 15 minutes! Owner provided quote and reference list. We ended up accepting the bid. The office called to schedule. The crew came out precisely at the scheduled time, efficiently performed the repair, removed all debris. The fence looks great!

Our association needed a our front gate repaired and found Freeman Fence on Angie's List. We had them among others come out to assess the damage to the gate and hear their suggestions about how to fix it. Compared to the other companies that came out, they seemed the most knowledgeable about how to best fix the gate and also came in with the best price. We hired them and scheduled them to come out the following Saturday where we would pay them the deposit and they would complete the repair. We still aren't really sure what happened but we waited around all day Saturday and no one showed up and we didn't receive a call from anyone. Somehow the gate was mysteriously semi-repaired. We received an angry call from someone at Freeman that no one was home when they came to repair and we affirmed that we were home all day Saturday and no one showed up, but someone had completed the work. We think they came a day earlier (Friday) and no one was home to give them the deposit because we were at work. We also noticed that one of the handles was still loose and there was still a sharp opening where the gate should latch. We called Freeman and they indicated that they would send someone out to fix it. Over a week later, unannounced on a Sunday morning someone showed up to fix the handle and the latch while his wife waited for him in the car. While the gate certainly doesn't look new, it is repaired enough that it is no longer a hazard and functions appropriately. We were really disappointed with the quality of work compared to all the wonderful Angie's List reviews and especially after meeting with the gentleman who showed us how he would recommend repair. There was definitely a disparity between what we expected and what was received.

Besides new work, we also repair other fence companies work that was substandard or that no longer honor their warrentee.Repairs are not a new fence, but an inexpensive alternitave to total replacement. Our normal procedure before deploying a crew or starting a job is to receive a deposit. I was told that one was mailed, we never received it and after several phone calls I talked to an assoication member who said he would pay the entire amount on completion. Being that this is an Angie's list customer, we waved the deposit. The crew arrived a day early for the repair, which was a mistake on our part. After talking to an assoication member he said that the old door knob was still loose. I said we would get a truck back to his location ASAP and sent the crew there on Sunday to complete. The job was completed and we have yet to receive any deposit or final payment. hmmmmm

We were facing a fairly complicated situation and needed a fence company that would propose real, and reasonably priced, solutions and then follow through on them. After having met with approximately 7 fencing companies from all around the western/southwestern suburban area, we quickly learned that not all fence companies are equal. Many sent out sales people who told us things about the fence that were just not true or promised turnaround times that they didn't meet. Roger, the owner of Freeman Fence, was the only guy who didn't shy away from the challenge and who gave us straight answers on both solutions and costs. And his solutions were the most practical that we saw from each of the fencing companies. The day came to get the work done and Roger came with his crew, who were both experienced, professional and timely. Perhaps most importantly, they took pride in their craft and took the extra step to make sure we were happy with the end product, even though it meant coming back another day to finish the job. We love our fence and it has changed the way we use our yard. Freeman proved to be honest, took pride in their business and workmanship and delivered on what they said they were going to do. Highly recommended.

I called the next day and stated I'd like the company to do the job but I needed to know when they could come and perform the work. I informed him that the city had agreed to remove the old fence and I needed to coordinate the removal and the installation because I have three dogs and can't be without a fence. I never heard back. I contacted another member of the company and explained the above and didn't hear back from him either. Now I have to start the process all over. August UPDATE: After several months the work was finally completed in July. Fence was installed but the installers didn't have any paperwork for me, like warranty details, final invoice, etc. I spoke with Roger Freeman on three occasions and requested the information and was told he'd have it emailed to me. As of 8/15/12 I still have not received anything!!!
Description of Work: I contacted the company 3/21 to provide an estimate for 63' of fencing and possible additional areas that needed new fencing. Freeman Fence is truly a first-rate company. We had initially planned on having a fence installed last year so we got quotes from several different companies. Of the salesmen who came to the house to provide estimates, I was struck by Roger's honest explanation of his pricing and his knowledge of the materials used. We had decided to go with Freeman Fence...and then another house issue caused us to put the fence project on hold. So last month we decided we were finally able to move ahead with it, and I called Roger to see if last year's estimate was still good. He came out to go over the specs, and said that yes, he could still honor that price. So we signed the contract and about a week and a half later the project began. The crew that took down our old fence did so on the almost 90-degree day in March. They had to break up the concrete that held those old posts in place, tear down the fence, and haul it all away. We have a large lot, but they were done with all of it by the end of that first day. The following day, another crew came to install the new fence. My husband left for work that morning to no fence, and came home that evening to an almost-completed new fence. The second crew did return the third morning to finish installing the locks on the gates, but otherwise the entire job was done within 2 days. That is truly amazing to me! And we couldn't be happier with the fence. We have received so many compliments on it, and I've noticed people driving by craning their necks to look at it. Roger and his employees should be recognized for their honesty, professionalism, and integrity, in addition to the quality work they provide.

At the end of October we had Freeman come out and give us an estimate. We liked the estimate and so we went ahead with the project. Everything seemed to be on track until issues with our city and the gentleman who approves the permits decided to take an extended vacation. We did not receive the permit till right before Thanksgiving. The project started the following week and due to rain finished up on Dec. 6th. The crew worked hard, were very professional and if we had questions were happy to stop and answer them. They built the fence on site and it is just so wonderful to have our property enclosed. They did an awesome job!!!

I have heard a lot of great things about Freeman Fence, and I would like to support a local business in my community. After a failed fence project this summer (removing a chain link fence and replacing with cedar or composite). I called freeman for a quote, talked to a very nice woman on the phone that said that everyone was in the field and someone would call me that night to talk about my project. Never received a call back. (happened twice). I put this project on hold for the year, I will probably revisit it next summer and I will try again with Freeman...hopefully I will be able to update this review.

When we tore down our garage, I discovered that our fence didn't circle the property. Freeman had built the rest of our fence a year ago, beautifully, and with exceptional service, so I called to see when they could add a matching section to keep my dog from escaping. That was last Friday. Today is Monday and the fence is complete. They had the fencing in stock so they fit us in. The crew is polite and professional and their work is excellent. They do what they say. A++ company. Thanks Roger!
Description of Work: Match fence section to enclose yard, making sure the vertical pieces don't allow for dog to escape.

From start to finish this project went well. Their salesman Jim was punctual, professional, and friendly. He did a great job of explaining there services and projects. The work started on time as planned and was completed in two days. The workmen did a good job of keeping everything neat and cleaning up after themselves. The quality is excellent and I have gotten several compliments from neighbors. If I needed another fence, Freeman would be my choice again.
Description of Work: Freeman Fence built a 48" tall wide-board picket fence with traditional trim in cedar. There was two 4' gates and approximately 180' of fencing.

I noticed that I had a rotten fence post on Thursday night. I called Freeman Fence company on Friday morning to get some information and the owner said that he could do the job that afternoon for 150.00. I was pleased with the work and the response. The job looks perfect and the workers did not complain about working in all the bushes or the wet ground. We have had a lot of severe weather and fences down from wind in my area and I really did not expect the quick service and the professional attitude. When my fence needs replacement , I will call Freeman first.
Description of Work: Freeman fence company replaced one rotting fence post. The original was removed, including the original cement and replaced with new cement and a new 6 foot fence post.

Last November, I called Freeman Fence and other companies to give me estimates. Jim from Freeman Fence came over a couple of days after calling for an estimate. He spent a lot of time with my boyfriend and me, carefully listening to what we wanted in terms of a gate. He discussed options with us, explained the installation process, and took measurements. When Jim had all the information, he went back to his vehicle and spent another 10-15 minutes writing up an estimate. He came back, gave us his estimate, and answered a few more questions for us. My boyfriend and I were impressed with Jim?s patience with our questions and professionalism. I decided on Freeman Fence because of their competitive price, answers to additional questions, and scheduling flexibility. (I was going to be out of town for two weeks.) Despite the cold, my double gate was installed on December 23 and 24. Nemo (not sure of spelling) showed up on December 23, as planned, and dug out the old fence posts by hand ? not an easy job, especially in 30-degree weather with occasional flurries. Then, he installed the new posts and made some final measurements for the two gates. I don?t think I have ever seen a harder worker. When my boyfriend and I asked him questions or checked to see if he needed anything, he was always soft-spoken and polite. The next day, December 24, Nemo and José arrived before 9 a.m. to hang the gates. They were done by around noon, and we wished them a merry Christmas. At last, I had my double gate and a much-needed extra parking space. Later that afternoon, while looking out of a back window, my boyfriend noticed that the south gate seemed a little off, more trapezoidal than rectangular. When we inspected the gates before Nemo and José had left, we were too close to notice the problem. After the holidays, in January, I called Freeman Fence and eventually spoke with Roger Freeman. I told him about the trapezoidal gate. I explained that the top bar of the frame was about one inch longer than the bottom bar, hence the gate?s shape. Roger said that he would send someone out to inspect. A few days later, José came and adjusted the vertical post supporting the south gate. He said that sometimes a post can get a little lopsided from the weight of the gate. Despite the adjustment ? by pulling back on the post ? the gate still looked lopsided. I spoke with Roger again, stressing that the gate?s lopsidedness was due to the top bar of the frame being longer than the bottom bar ? that pulling back on the gate?s vertical mounting post didn?t make any difference. He agreed, and said that when the weather got better and the snow melted, he would send someone over to redo the gate. Since this was a cosmetic issue, I told him I was in no big rush. We agreed to touch base again in the spring. In early April, I called Roger to remind him about the pending gate repair. A few days later, José and Nemo were back and took measurements in order to make a new frame. They confirmed that the top bar on the south gate?s frame was longer than the bottom bar. Two weeks later, Nemo returned with the new gate frame and installed the fabric (chain-link fencing) on it. He didn?t have a chance to hang the gate due to the rain, which had grown stronger as the day progressed. The next day, Nemo installed the gate. The replacement south gate is perfect, and the double gates look fantastic! Thank you Freeman Fence!
Description of Work: I wanted to create a gated parking area in a now-unused vegetable garden between my garage and my neighbor’s garage. In order to do this, I needed an old chain-link fence removed and a chain-link double gate installed.
