Description of Work: Approximately 120 linear feet of board and batten privacy fence with steel posts. Old chain link fence was also removed and hauled away. We received a couple other quotes that were cheaper but went with Freeman Fence due to their higher level of knowledge, professionalism and quality of wood used. Freeman was the only company that provided clear lumber (without knots) and source the wood responsibly. Fence was completed in 2 days time and workers did not hesitate to ask questions or make suggestions to ensure we were getting what we wanted. Would definitely have work done by Freeman in the future without hesitation!

Description of Work: Freeman installed a custom-designed fence which required quite a bit of detail and a lot of materials. They were professional and attentive, and when we requested changes or alterations, they did it without dispute. When the spacing of the boards on several portions was not consistent, they disassembled the sections and corrected it without any question. There were several boards that were not in good shape that we requested be changed out and they did it without any dispute. The only issue that we have is that many of the nail holes are quite deep and large, and they are very noticeable. It would have been nice if they had filled them in with putty or something.

Description of Work: Installed a small bit of privacy fence and a gate over the driveway. Roger met us at our home to discuss options. Once we decided upon what we wanted he managed the Permit Process. From first meeting to complete install was two weeks, mostly due to December being a slow fence month. I really liked the option of the eco-friendly material which is made of recycled plastic. Not only is keeping plastic out of landfills, it should be lower-maintenance than regular wood. It was a bit more expensive but for my small job, worth it.

Description of Work: We'd been having a problem with the sliding gate that enclosed our parking area, and another company was unable to resolve the problem, despite multiple attempts. Andy from Freeman Fence came out the day after we spoke, performed the work exactly as agreed upon, and our gate now works again. If we decide to upgrade the gate's antenna/receiver, we will use Freeman for the work.

+ -1 moreRoger installed cedar fences for my daughter and son-in-law and their immediate neighbor a few months ago. They were very impressed with Roger and his crew and the quality and value of the finished fences. Based on their wonderful experience, I called Roger and had a similar wonderful experience. Roger was very responsive and took time to explain exactly what his bids contained. Importantly, the cedar that Roger uses is absolutely clear. It is far superior to the grade of cedar that I have seen in local big boxes and lumber yards and, in my experience, far superior to the grade that other fence builders use. Roger explained that he has a source for the clear cedar in British Columbia and noted that British Columbia has stringent regulations that permit only selective logging of end of life trees. Using superior wood, Roger and his crew take obvious pride in their craftsmanship and creativity. I have other fencing that I will replace in a year or two and will clearly use Freeman Fencing.
Description of Work: Roger's crew built three separate fences and a railing around the perimeter of the roof on a single story sunroom. Two of the fences were constructed of cedar boards and the third was contructed of cedar lattice. The railing on the roof of the sunporch was constructed of cedar spindles. Roger added a teak top to the cedar posts. Roger also repaired an existing cedar fence that was leaning out of plumb.

+ -1 moreIt went well overall, we are happy with the company and will use them again when it's time to update our wrought iron fence. The project basically involved two stages 1) installing additional posts to support the gate and operator and 2) installing the gate and wiring the operator. Stage 1 was completed on time and as expected. We were a little disappointed that Stage 2 seemed to be delayed unnecessarily, but Freeman took full responsibility and upgraded several of our components at no extra charge to compensate for our inconvenience. It's now been about 6 months since the gate was installed and it continues to work well, the remote controls and manual keypad work well and are a huge convenience (especially in the snowy months). The gate blends well with the wrought iron fence so everything turned out as we had hoped it would.
Description of Work: We hired Freeman to install a cantilever automatic gate across our driveway in Chicago in a form that matched the existing wrought iron fence around our lot. The work required them to remove an old manual swing gate and also remove a chain link fence from part of our yard since it would no longer be required once the cantilever gate was finished. As part of the installation, Freeman also updated the buzzer boxes for the pedestrian gates in our exterior fence and ran electrical conduit from our garage to power the cantilever gate operator.

+ -1 moreI ordered a 3 foot width dog run and they came in with a 4 - 4.5 feet wide run. They had the wrong fence gate style - pickets were to be level, not curved. I spoke with the installation manager and the owners Roger Freeman and Ross Papke and said that I wanted the correct gate ordered according to the specs of our contract. They claim the manufacturer sent the incorrect one. It took several calls, one in March of 2007 and August 2007 to find out when the proper gate would be replaced. Ross came and looked at the gate and said they would glue the pickets to the correct height. I said I was not agreeable to that. I paid a lot of money to have this fencing done and Freeman Fence never fulfilled by ordering the correct gate. I never agreed with gluing the pickets. Finally, one year later, on November 18, 2007, I noticed that someone had come and glued the other two pickets to the same height and caulked around all of the pickets which made it look cheap and sloppy.

+ -1 moreOverall, we had a very tough experience with Freeman Fence. We found the work done to be very shoddy and unprofessional. While Mr. Freeman was responsive to my complaint phone calls during the work, the results were nowhere near favorable. The whole process ending up taking a month once work started. The problems were many: the fence itself does not follow the slope of the yard so there are large gaps at the base of the fence that allow critters to pass freely. For a fence expert to construct something like this is unfortunate. They ordered the wrong hardware for my vinyl gate so they initially mounted the gate backwards; meaning that people in the alley could lock me in my own yard. Ultimately, they ended up mounting the hardware upside down and the gate has never worked right. The workers tried to install different color post caps than the fence color because they ordered the wrong ones. They finished by leaving their extra fence parts behind and the yard all torn up.
Description of Work: Remove old wood fence and replace with new vinyl fence. Install 2 security gates: one vinyl, one iron.
