The entire job took eight hours: 9 AM - 5 PM. The two-man crew arrived on time. They laid out canvas tarps on my carpet, which I appreciated. Both men were courteous and professional. However, I had to insist that spray foam be applied on all four sides of the window frames and patio door before being caulked. The front window frame was chipped, exposing the white vinyl underneath, but it was touched up and looks OK. After all the work was completed, they cleaned up very well, both inside and outside. Aside from my new windows and patio door, It looked as though they were never here. The windows and patio door look great. I'm pleased with the products, and, if I move and be in need of new windows and patio again, I would consider using Window Works again.
Description of Work: I had three windows and one patio door replaced at my condo: one double hung window, two slider windows, and a center patio door with windows on either side of it.

It went well. I would hire them again but would be careful when reading their adds.
Description of Work: Window Works sent a salesperson to our home per our request. We contacted the company as a result of an add we saw in a flier. We were surprised that the windows we wanted were not covered in their advertised sale. The salesperson said that only the windows that were pictured in the add were covered. He gave us a very high price originally but when we said it was too much he lowered it significantly . The 3 basement windows were ordered and installed on the scheduled date. The installers were fast, thorough, and very neat. We have no complaints re. the windows or installation but felt that the advertisement was a " bait and switch".

Guys who performed the work did a great job. If there was one thing to "complain" about is that the communication between the production dept and us could have been a little bit better. We had to call to see where our order was at, turns out the door manufacturer was hanging up install and until we called, I don't think Window Works had looked into it. Other than that, Brian in Production was great at answering questions, etc. Was also pleased that supervisor comes out a few days after completed installation of siding to check the crew's work (taking measurements, the whole 9 yards). The supervisor was here for 30 minutes checking the quality of the installation. Overall, very happy with the windows, siding and door and with the entire team at Window Works/HomeWerks. Like anything, do your homework and get several estimates from good, reputable companies before you decided. And remember, sometime the cheapest isn't the greatest!
Description of Work: We had new windows, siding and front door installed by Window Works/HomeWerks. We feel we got a good deal for the bundle and couldn't be happier with the product and service. We had 10 windows replaced, all new siding and a new front door installed.

The Sales Part We originally requested a quote for the windows and when we went in to pay for them, the amount had changed by approximately $70 as an upcharge for the frosted glass on the bathroom window. We had to leave and come back as our sales rep was not there but when we called him, he took care of the issue without too much drama. When we placed the order, we had also requested the quote include "privacy screens". Now - I wasn't even sure these existed but I wanted to have a few windows with screens that were not see-through. The sales person readily agreed and said it was included. Later, when we asked about them, he looked at us like we were nuts. Apparently such things don't exist. The Work Part The crew arrived on time and completed the work quickly. All work was done in a day. At first I was very pleased with the windows and I still am very happy with the way they look. We ended up with a combination of double hung and sliding windows. I really wanted to ensure we were able to get the most cross ventilation and air flow when the windows were open. I am disappointed in the double hung windows because they don't open all the way. We used to be able to put a standard sized box fan in the window but these windows have a stopper which prevents them from opening more. There is probably an additionally 2-3 inches that these could open. One of the sliding windows was installed without a screen on one side - it still works and has a screen but it would be nice to open it from either side. As we did our normal spring and fall clean-ups we started to realize what a sloppy job the crew had done when installing the windows. There is caulk and foam on the exterior of my home, in the bushes, and on the gutter. We've also been finding little remnants from the old windows - screws, springs, aluminum, etc. in the yard and in the driveway. The product Generally we like the windows. They look nice, they are easy to open and close and they lock properly. Our sales person told us they would screen out a lot of noise; I haven't noticed a difference but it does seem less breezy in here. Summary In all fairness, we never brought some of our concerns directly to the company to fix. Obviously they can't deliver screens that don't exist but we should have followed up with them about the missing screen, the way the windows open, and the mess left behind by the crew. If you decide to do business with them, you should ask what the actual window opening will be, how many screens you will get, and what their policy is on clean-up.
Description of Work: We hired Window Works to build and install new windows for our home. We replaced 11 windows. All of the windows were custom built.

Salesman came out on time, explained his company's windows, and demonstrated how they worked. His price was significantly lower than the four other competitors who visited house. Salesman did a better job selling than most other competitors who visited house too. The two installers removed and replaced the 20 windows in a matter of hours. The next day, they installed the aluminum copings in about the same amount of time. My only complaint was that some small concrete pieces removed from around the bathroom windows ended up in and around the bathtub, and some chipped pieces of paint ended up on the sidewalk outside and was not cleaned up. We did contact the salesman about this, but nothing was done to remedy the situation.
Description of Work: Removed original windows and installed 20 vinyl low-e windows. Installed aluminum copings over and between windows.

So far the process has gone well. The marketing manager returned a few days after the sales call and we inked the deal. The windows were measured a few days later without any issues. However, I have not heard form Window Works about the status of the order into the factory - Just what I cautioned I did not want to happen - irregular communication. I will have more to review as I pursue the order status and the work begins, so stay tuned ..... 1/13/2013 Now that the installation is complete, I can say I am thoroughly pleased with both the product and service. But before I continue, a word of caution thru no fault of Window Works: the window treatments (blinds, shades, etc.) we had in the old windows will no longer fit into the windows, because the window frames are so much deeper now, consuming much if not most of the space in the window opening that used to be available for hanging blinds and shades. And we are certainly NOT going to drill holes in the new window frames. So, just be aware of this consequence. Back to the install story - the crew was neat, orderly, cooperative, communicative and did one heck of a job over 3 days. They worked long hours, did their best to minimize disruption in the house, and kept their work areas neat, orderly. And of course, great clean up at the end of the day. I am so thankful to be the proud owner of quality windows, installed in a quality manner. 2/17/2013 - WATCH OUT FOR LESSON LEARNED HEREIN My worst nightmare - cracked master frames. About three weeks had passed since the installation, and after painting the trim, we noticed we had eight (8) cracked window frames. Eight out of twenty-seven - almost a third. Wholly smoke! Called Window Works and sent them photographs of the 8 windows. Their reaction was this is highly unusual. They will forward the pics to the manufacturer. Three days later, I had to prompt them to find out the status. Within an hour, a person from the manufacturer called and we set up an inspection date and time. Manufacturer's inspector again reiterated that 8 cracked windows is highly unusual. His theories for the cause ( and use this as a lesson learned to share with Window Works if you buy windows): 1. If windows are mishandled or t ransported other than right-side up, vibration in transit can cause them to crack, 2. Opening the window and hitting the jamb stop hard can cause the frames to crack, 3. Likely not a result of manufacturing defect, 4. If dropped or mishandled at install, can cause the frames to crack. I shared with the inspector the pics i took of the windows unloaded in my driveway. Indeed, there was at least one laying sideways. INSPECT AT ARRIVAL THE POSITION OF WINDOWS ON THE TRUCK, AFTER UNLOADING, ETC. TAKE PHOTOS AS NECESSARY. INSPECT FRAME AFTER INSTALL BEFORE THE INSTALLERS LEAVE (although we believe cracks appeared AFTER installation) 3/4/2013 Installers arrived within the appointed time slot, removed 8 damaged windows and installed 8 new windows. The work went fairly smoothly, and the crew was neat and tidy and cleaned up afterwards. We were led to believe from the factory inspector that all work would be done from the outside, without disturbing the trim work on the inside. The lead installer thought otherwise, and in fact removed the interior trim. Okay, I understand that, but now I have to re-paint the trim and repair damaged spackling inflicted during the trim removal. Damaged screens from the original warranty remain unresolved.
Description of Work: The windows in our ~22 year old home have been in desperate need of replacement, due to broken glass and broken seals. Of course, most of this is due to the crappy windows furnished and installed by the builder of this tract home. And the other obvious reason is the home, as all buildings, has settled over the years. Let's hope the settling has ended, right? So, we had the Marketing Manager call on us twice, the first time to hear the sales presentation, see the product, and the second time to place the order. Sales presentation went very well. A few suggestions: Make it clear that you have researched and obtained competitor prices, if you have. Let them know the line of work you are in, as I am in the construction business, so at least they don't bore you with too much detail. Off course, they want you to "ink the deal" [sign the contract] before they leave. So, I made it clear at the beginning of the sales session, I WILL NOT ink the deal tonight. Be firm, but polite. I don't think the sales guy took too kindly to my posture, but too bad. I won't agree to spend $20k on a 2 hour sales meeting. Watch out for the "Marketing Home Agreement" [or similar instrument] sales pitch, where you commit to the firm using your home for marketing purposes [pictures before and after, seller's advertising sign in the yard, etc], with a discount in price, BUT ONLY IF YOU INK THE DEAL RIGHT THEN AND THERE. Warranty - get the details, and it might be a differentiator. In my case, the warranty is extensive and very complete, as long as I live hear and transferable to the next Owner. Make it clear, if you ink the deal, you require regular, constant communication [if that appeals to you - I know my customers like regular communication]. For example, I made it clear I wanted to be informed: 1. days in advance of measuring, 2. as the order goes into the factory and progresses through the manufacturing process, etc. Go to the firms website and read about them. Go to Better Business Bureau website and investigate the firm.

My wife and I decided to purchase a new sliding glass door because the one that currently existed in the house was in need of major repair. We contacted WindowWerks/HomeWerks and Rob the salesman came right out on June 18, 2012. Rob was a great salesman and demonstrated the workmanship of their product with great expertise. We were sold on the product immediately. Now lets fast forward. The contractors came out on July 28, 2012 to install the door in an unmarked van. I had the feeling they were outside contractors. They were polish men that spoke very little english. One man didn't speak english at all. That wasn't the big problem. The big problem was that they installed the wrong door. We ordered a sliding glass door with grids. They installed a door with no grids. They had to come back out the following week and install the correct door. They came the following Saturday and installed the correct door. I paid them in full and they left. My wife came in later that day and immediately noticed 13 holes in the wall that went completely through the drywall and was quite upset. I contacted the salesman Rob. I sent pictures of the wall and he jumped right on it. He was told that one of the installers said, "he accidentally hit the wall with some machine that punches deep holes." I believed he called is a saw-zaw or saw-saw, something like that. Anyway, the bad part is that they knew they put these big holes in the wall and didn't tell the client that they did it. We had to find out on our on. They came back out for the third time to apply plaster and whatever else they used to repair the wall. Fast forward a few weeks after. The lock on the sliding glass door stopped locking. the hinges they installed came loose and were not in proper alignment. I was surprised that this was happening because it's a door that we hardly use. My wife contacted Rob the salesman and he got right on it. The contractors called my wife and wanted to come on Tuesday. My wife said we couldn't do it Tuesday but that they can install it anytime on Thursday. They said, "we'll try to make it Thursday." Thursday came and went. They didn't come. My wife called back and had to set another appointment for 2 weeks later. They came out and fixed the lock. I know many of you are wondering why I would still use the company again. It's simple, we think it's a superior product and we really liked the salesman. However, they do need to work on communication and have their contractors inspect their work in detail before they leave a job site. Oh, and always tell the customer when you damage their property.
Description of Work: We had an old swing door that led to our backyard taken out and had this company install an new gridded sliding glass door.

I needed a new storm door and wanted to get one that was well made and came with substantial hardware. A good quality storm door was actually easy to find, and I did find a few places that had doors comparable to HomeWerks. The bigger challenge was finding a security service door for my garage that had a modern or retro style to it. All that I was able to find on the internet or at other home improvement stores were flush faced doors or doors with traditional trims. The sales person at the HomeWerks retail store looked through several books to find something that would work for me, and although we didn't find a style that matched what I had in mind, he did find an option that worked. The person who came to my home to do the estimate was professional and seemed to know his product well. I've been burned a few times by contractors so I ask a lot of questions, and he was very clear in answering them. I think he also did a good job in sincerely promoting his own company rather than just giving me the sales talk. He described the ordering and installation process and everything that he said was going to happen, did as planned. The doors took about 6 weeks to produce. After I signed the contract, measurements were verified by the installers. The doors arrived as promised about 6 weeks later. The installer accommodated my request for a specific time of the day which is also hard to get these days. The 2 men who came to install were fantastic....efficient, clean, and with excellent workmanship. The service door to the garage required a bit more work because of the new frame, and everything that was done was done with a keen eye. HomeWerks got good reviews on Angie's List which is why I chose them, but I've come to expect some glitches along the way when working with contractors. There were none with HomeWerks. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: A full view storm door for the main entry was replaced. We also replaced a wood/glass service door to the garage with a new steel door with a small window. The frame of the door was also replaced.

I called this company because of their Halloween coupon--buy 2 get 4 windows. It's not a big surprise, but it's very clear that they just jack up the price of the windows to make you feel like you're getting a discount. I can't believe that before our coupon our 6 small, basic basement windows would cost over $8,000 to replace. That's just ridiculous. The salesman was a nice guy with quite an elaborate demonstration, but his sales pitch was excessively long--over TWO HOURS! Then, of course, he was really pushy at the end.

Overall they did a very good job. I got quotes from 4 contractors on the whole house, 14 double hung vinyl windows and two patio doors. While they all came in with about the same price, HomeWorks was able to provide a product that the others were charging several thousand dollars more for, and the installation went very smooth. We had the installation about 2 weeks ago and we're very pleased with the job they did. I would recommend them to anyone and would use them again if I needed new windows and doors.

Wow! I just saw how horribly this was transcribed from my phone interview, so I decided to update. We interviewed about 5-6 companies and were only slightly considering windows (we mainly needed a new roof) but Window Works sold us on their windows. Their windows are manufactured locally, which is a huge plus because apparently (and this I've confirmed with others outside WW) shipping is one of the highest costs involved with windows, so having that local-made product is key here. They came, they showed us their great product and the amazing things it can do. These windows were clearly heads above other windows, I will say that. And the thing for us that sealed the deal was that 1) they have much better gaurantees on their product than anyone in the area and 2) for the price, you get really nice windows for a lot less than other places. Now, we purchased in January when they run their annual winter sale which is meant to keep their guys working through the winter, so there's a chance they won't be cheap if you purchase at other times. But for us, they were neck and neck with the lowest quote which used run-of-the-mill windows, so it was a no-brainer. The install process went great. It was over within maybe four hours or so - so not very long at all. And the windows look totally fabulous and are very easy to operate, so I highly recommend.
