I contacted WindowWorks first through their online chat function to see if they sold and installed skylights. That's all I wanted or need to know, but the rep. on the other end kept pressing for my phone number and email, where I lived. He must have been handling several conversations because he didn't always respond, but when he did, he KEPT pressing. After 15 minutes and multiple attempts, and regretting I had done so, he told me that they do not. Moving on. I have some leaks in my house that I thought would be taken care of with a new roof. Called four companies and received quotes with no pressure. The last company told me I needed new siding and showed my where and why and said I could fix it also by caulking some J channels. However, I wanted some quotes on siding just in case. There in comes WindowWorks. They happened to call me because I had put in my information a while back for some other work I thought they might be able to do, prior to the skylight incident. They happened to just do a marketing call and asked me if I had any type of work that needed to be done, roofs, windows, doors, siding, etc. I told them that I was going to start looking into siding quotes but was only looking to get quotes and was NOT in the market. I was purely doing research and getting numbers, and only wanted someone to come by and look at the siding and give me a written quote, and then leave. And I told them if I had to deal with a pressure-type sales person who was going to fight for the sale afterwards, I wasn't going to do it. They told me that was not how they operated, so I figured it would be like the other companies who quoted me for a roof. They came by, measured, asked me some questions, left, then emailed a quote. It went downhill from there. The guy used my house like it was his own. He took way too long "getting to know me". He talked about a whole bunch of stuff about houses, siding, roofs and all I wanted was a quote. I made it very clear what my intentions were, many times, multiple times. He continued to use typical salesman's tricks to extend the sales call so he could pitch until I wore down. He did the call his boss trick many times, tried to sell me other things after I told him his unofficial price, which I had to discern from what he explained about their products and service, was going to be much more expensive than a typical siding job, which I was fairly sure I couldn't afford even that. Yet he still attempted to show me product and told me he would get fired for not showing it. I continued to tell him I was not buying and that I was just looking for numbers and that I honestly couldn't give them money because his unofficial price was too high and did not have that kind of money. I can't create money out of thin air. He continued to ask the same questions over and over and trying the same "tricks" salesman use to wear someone down and so you buy something. Even telling me it would save him 20 minutes of paperwork if I bought now. I honestly don't care about what you have to do to do YOUR job, that's not MY problem. This was just the beginning. Finally after all his wearing down, salesman's tricks, and after multiple clear NO's, over the course of 3 plus hours, he finally left. Then he came back. I went upstairs to tell my wife how absolutely disgusted I was with this and how the first customer rep simply lied just to get the outside sales rep in my home. NICE. I'm not sure how long he was standing at the door listening before he came back in, on his own... which was to "use my bathroom", which he did, but then proceeded to SELL ME AGAIN. I told him no three more times clearly in the next 5 minutes he was here. I am NOT happy with their sales tactics. If I had been ready to purchase, this may have gone differently. But these people will do ANYTHING to make you buy, from their online people, to their phone reps, to especially their outside sales. Their price for the siding was extremely high, but it seems they use top notch quality products with expensive labor and parts that aren't absolutely necessary. The quote he gave me for fascia/soffits (in an effort to sell me SOMETHING) was fairly decent. He pressed on that for a hour and a half. I despise the "Buy now and get xx% off" discount. I told him I would rather buy something for more money when I'm 100% ready to buy than to spend $500 less on a $4000 project I'm not sure I need.

I still have unresolved issues: 1) I am due a rebate for referring them to a neighbor. This was promised by the salesman and the office within two weeks of the neighbor receiving their door. It’s almost three months later and I have not yet received it. The company has not returned my calls. 2) Window Works installed the closure piece on the security storm door so that it interferes with using my keys for the entry door. This causes me to drop my keys, bang my arthritic fingers causing pain, and delays my entry into the house which is concern at night. They said they would research a different size closure but have not gotten back to me. 3) They caulked over my door bell. After I complained, they removed the doorbell, recaulked the area but have not replaced the doorbell which their workers permanently damaged the outside appearance. When I called the office and inquired about replacing it, I was told they would think about it. They didn’t even offer an apology. 4) I paid for three doors and paid a separate fee for three locks but I only received two sets of keys! The doors are so expensive, I'm embarrassed to say how much I paid for them. Yet, they the company is so cheap they don't even provide you with a set of keys for each door. 5) The salesman stated the installers were licensed carpenters. He promised they would replace and repair the broken wood next to the frame. The bill of sale stated “fix minor wood repair around & under paneling (rear entry door)”. The workers stated they would fix it but when I walked away they installed the door and frame without repairing the wood under the paneling. The workers pointed to the frame and stated they repaired it but stated they would not do the repair under the paneling. They did replace the frame, but that is a standard part of the door package. They did no repair. Other comments: -This company is terrible at returning phone calls. Staff is polite but not responsive. -It is difficult to communicate with the installers as they don’t speak English well. -The salesman stated he would put a rush on the doors. The order was placed on 4/25/13 and the “rushed” doors were delivered almost 7 weeks later on 6/11/13. This was later than the neighbor who placed an order after me. -The salesman advised that the doors had a lifetime warranty. When I asked to see the warranty, he said he didn't have it with him but I would receive it when they delivered the doors (which is too late if the salesman gave false information about the warranty). When they delivered and installed the doors, they STILL didn't have the warranty. I had to call the office and request the warranty for both the entry and the storm doors. They did email the warranty promptly and this was the only time they were responsive to me. However, after reading the warranty, I find that there is a “limited warranty” and only on certain aspects of the door, which is not what the salesman told me. The warranty actually ranges from 5 years to “limited lifetime”. The advertised special powder coat paint is only warranted for 5 years. The glass and frame is warranted for 10 years. -My brand new door had a small scratch and they said they would repair it. All they did was put a dab of touch-up paint over the scratch. I could have done that. -I feel very bad that I referred the salesman to my neighbor as they have had trouble too. They had several issues and the outstanding issue is that their brand new door at only a few weeks has rust spots. The company promised to call back but after more than one month has not done so. The rust spots are just getting bigger.

On date of sale, June 28, Salesman promised 3 to 4 week time frame for installation, with final measure within the week. Final measure done 15 days later with 40 minutes advance notice that he was coming. Said it would be 4-6 weeks to installation. When I protested he changed to 2 weeks. Then on July 22 received a call saying that door would be installed the week of August 5.Then on July 30, the installer called to say that he had the door and would install on July 31, which he did. So, despite the changing schedule, the install was done in just over 4 weeks, pretty much as originally promised. Job was done in a most professional manner and I am completely satisfied with the finished product. Only one minor error in the installation of the stop on the bottom of the door, which was supposed to allow the door to open a few inches and lock - a feature that I would probably not use anyway. I feel comfortable that I would use this contractor again for future window needs.

They scheduled an 8 A.M. time and showed up at 8 A.M. They came in, looked over the situation, and went to work. 29 windows in one day. Professional, pleasant, polite, wonderful crew. 4 men and clean, clean, clean. No debris left. All the old trim, windows, gone. I must confess, in our neighborhood I've seen replacement windows that look horrible. Large frames that reduce the original window glass by as much as 1/2 or so it seems. I was assured by the salesman that would not be the case. I ordered grills for the living and dining rooms as they face the street and debated which kind to get. Again, the salesman guided me through. Still, while waiting for the windows, I was hoping for the best and fearing the worst. I can't say enough good things about the results. They exceeded my expectations. The windows are beautiful. The old wood trim on the exterior of the house was covered with aluminum and sealed. The windows are low-e glass, easy open, easy clean, and completely changed the home. The product and the people are exceptional. I'm a real estate appraiser with 22 years experience. I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. Too many people have bemoaned their contractors and I've seen shoddy workmanship with homeowners left with less than desirable results. I read the reviews on Angies List and called 5 different companies. All were comparable with similar prices. I really can't say why I went with Window Works other than the salesman was professional, had a sample in hand, promised a 1 day installation, and gave the best price. Hhmmmm. Maybe I can say why. Honestly, the professional demeanor of the salesman and the installation crew tells and sells the product. No foul language, crude jokes, or opinions regarding the state of our home. I figured my job was to give them easy access to the windows so they could work and stay out of their way. The results are outstanding. They exceeded my expectations.

Salesman spent considerable time in our home explaining products and options. He was willing to address our concerns and work with our requests. We were impressed with the window technology. We were contacted & made aware of processing of order. Installation was scheduled at our convenience as expected within 6 weeks. Three installers showed up on time and worked for 5 hours straight without a break. Installation was done quickly and efficiently. Installers were pleasant and professional - as were all employees we had contact with. Clean-up was exceptional. Finished windows look great! We were very impressed with Window Works and do not hesitate to recommend their product and services.

The presentation was very good. The guy was very professional and everything went fine. After he left, I realized that he miss-represented a couple of things. The main thing, which I was very upset about was that he told me very specifically that they are window manufacturer and I learned that they are not. They are just dealer. I called them to come back and talk about that, but that did not go well. They said that the guy was sick and he was not working and then as I said that I want to cancel my order, they said he can come later in the afternoon, he should be in the neighbor. I asked to have him call me, but he never did. Eventually, I cancelled the order. I requested the refund of my deposit, which I paid when I placed the order on first meeting and in order to get my money back, I had to call them 2-3 times because there was communication gap within the organization and I had to call 2-3 times and he was able to get my deposit back eventually.

I submitted a request on their web page to be contact about a window and a door which are high priority and perhaps a few more windows depending on cost. Within 15 minutes my phone rang. We arranged for a salesman to stop by the same evening. I showed their guy the door and window that were important. He seemed interested in measuring the entire house, which kinda bugged me because it gave the impression that he wasn't interested in a small job. After an hour or so of lecture on the minuscule details of vinyl windows, he seemed upset that I was losing interest, and that I had to go back to work. He left me with a phone number I could call when I wanted to finish the lecture and do whatever he thought was important. OK, I know it was the end of a long day, and only the middle of a long day for me, but really, I just wanted to know about the job I cared about. All in all, I wasn't impressed.

Overall we are pleased with the installation and quality of windows. They were by far the best quality windows we found for the price. The workers who installed the windows did a good job, worked hard and the windows look great!

Salesman was punctual and informed. A little on the hard sell side but we expect that from these type of services. Angie's List rating was a big factor in choosing Window Works. We also liked the fact that the windows are manufactured here in Illinois. The actual work was completed in 1 day by a 2-man crew. They were efficient and clean. The windows are working well, fit perfectly but it is too early to comment on any energy savings. But, I have no doubt they are better than the old single-pane windows we had.

The total experience went well. I was nervous since I had made the decision to go with Window Works without my husband being present. The windows were a tad costly but they are supposed to be high efficiency. They were installed in the Spring of 2012 . It took approximately 3 days to do the entire house. The installation crew was extremely professional and they cleaned up behind themselves each day. During the winter of 2012, I felt a draft coming in on the sliding window over the kitchen sink. I called to report my concern and within 48-72 hours the representative came out and made adjustments to not only the kitchen window but he also adjusted the other sliding windows throughout the house; just in case. So far 2013, I have not had any issues. I hope not to have any issues going forward. The windows are now a year old and they still look really nice. The white exterior vinyl trim around each window has not faded and the prairie style stands out in my neighborhood. I hope to be happy with my purchase for years to come; especially, since the windows come with a transferable lifetime warranty.

We needed to do something about changing the original builder-provided double hung windows in our 27-year-old home. I researched on Angie's List and internet "best of" lists, scheduled appointments to look at four different replacement window suppliers. Window Works was in the middle (neither cheapest nor most expensive) price-wise, but we selected them based on strength of the product (vis-à-vis Price), the glass and seal technology of their double-pane window, and the transferrable lifetime warranty. The sales team were very good at explaining the product and took all the time we needed for them to answer all of our questions. The windows were made in Chicago (liked that) to Window Works specifications, and on Window Works provided machinery. They controlled the process throughout. They were done on schedule and the call to set up installation came when promised. The installation crew showed up on time and were very professional, ... and fast. They cleaned up after themselves as they went. There was, and is, no evidence on the ground that the crew was ever here ... great! And, the install was done in one day. There was one issue with one window - one of the sashes had weather-strips manufactured into the frame and "revealed" sides. True to their process Window Works made a complete new sash and called to install it ten days later. The technician was in the house for all of three minutes. Out with the defective sash, in with the new, checked it, and accepted it. No fuss. I have already recommended Window Works to several of my friends and neighbors. I definitely will ask them to bid when we replace our front entry door next year. Great job all around!!!

I would like to start by mentioning I am in sales and have been in sales leadership for over 10 years, so I appreciate good salesmanship. The Rep was prompt and friendly but when we came inside the experience started to go downhill quickly. I stated when he arrived I was looking for a quote and even told him the other companies I have spoken with. After going over the company he asked what color we wanted, we didn't have much time as our kids needed our attention. I told him we can always change the color later, he proceeded to tell that he needs the color because I will get best price tonight only. I know this tactic well and it does not work. He did not listen to my needs or respect my decision making process. He again stated what if the price was xxxx (extremely low) would you do it tonight? After I repeatedly told him I would not be deciding tonight he continued on. Enter tactic number 2. I had to sign a paper saying a decline the tonight price and he can hold the high price for 90 days. At this point I am just angry. After I sign his paper, he pushes for a close as I am walking him out the door. He asked what's holding me back and he wants to give me manufacture rebates now. Again, I explained I do not make decisions this way and even joked that I appreciate him trying to close being in sales myself. Overall this was a bad experience. The troubling thing is they were competitive on the "today only" price I most likely would have chosen them if they would have respected my decision making process. This was the 3rd company I had provide me a quote and this was the only one with old school, create false sense of urgency, frustrating sales tactics.

From the very beginning of the process - Matt the salesman / estimator - to the end with three very skilled workmen, the process was excellent. Buying new windows is not a fun experience generally - necessary but not fun. Everything was completed in an extrememly neat, professional and speedy manner. The three craftsmen arrived on time and completed the task in 1 1/2 days. We are extremely happy with our new windws - the product and the installation - and have received compliments from our neighbors.

After an estimate and choosing our new door, WW worked with our association and village to obtain the necessary permission and permits. Once everything was in order, our door went into production. It was ready ahead of schedule and they called to set an installation date. The installation team showed up on time, were both very polite and professional. The installation went smoothly, including replacing the rotted frame with no issues. The result is a beautiful new door and sidelights. Very pleased with the service from start to finish.
Description of Work: Replaced front door and sidelights with custom panel door and dual sidelights.

My experience was great. He went into detail the types of windows they sell and quoted me a price. I told him since I was I was going to be traveling; I will have to hold off on the project and I plan to get a few more estimates.
Description of Work: They gave me an estimate on my windows in the basement
