Description of Work: I sit on the Board of a large (120 Unit) condominium building & my area of responsibility is building maintenance. It was recently brought to my attention that the two 16-foot traverse rods that hang the drapes in our large, ground-floor common area were out of commission; their cords/pulleys were either broken or not functioning and the drapes could not be moved! I turned to Angie's List to find a contractor who could fix our problem & came up with Doug Johnson at Suburban Window Fashions. Doug came over & assessed our situation & after a discussion, we decided to go with a commercial-quality traverse rod that used a wand to pull the draperies in the desired direction, no cords/pulleys to fail. Doug quoted us a fair installed price on the new rods, our Board then approved his bid & the rods were ordered. The rods arrived within Doug's estimated time frame & he installed them both in under two hours! Overall, Doug was friendly, professional & knew his product & how to install it. Our owners love the functionality of the new rods & they should last for many years.

Description of Work: I was looking for new window covering for the two-story living room window wall. Doug Johnson was very helpful in offering solutions and providing appropriate answers and feedback to my questions and concerns. On June 25, 2015 I signed a contract and wrote a deposit check for the blinds and two cloth-covered cornices. Due to availability problems with the subcontractor, the installation wasn't scheduled until August 25. On that date the blinds were installed but the cornices weren't made to fit with the blinds. On September 15 they returned to install the cornices but the white cloth lining was too thin to cover the blue paint of the cornice boards. Apparently the subcontractor did not see any problems with that as he left after I voiced my concern about the visual aspects. Doug immediately took corrective action. On September 25 they returned to remove the cornices, line them so the blue paint was not visible through the fabric, and rehang them. I am now thoroughly pleased with the "new look" although it took 3 months and "do overs" to get it right. Doug communicated with me often throughout this process and I'm happy with his responsiveness. Next time I will probably ask more questions about his subcontractors.

He was prompt, cheerful & courteous and brought a variety of types of coverings to include wood blinds and honeycomb blinds. He warranties his work and when I had a change of heart in terms of wanting an open/close option added for one of the blinds, he was quick in his reponse and with the repair.

+ -1 moreDoug Johnson, owner of Suburban Window Fashions, quoted and measured 20 windows for our home. Doug was knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. After the meeting I felt confident about my choices. Doug took his time and helped me choose colors, textures and the right decisions for each room. A second meeting was set to have the manufacturing company - Normandy - come out to measure. Again Doug was very professional and helpful. Doug kept us informed as to when the shutters would be ready. They were ready ahead of schedule. Doug even offered to help us remove our old window treatments. Doug was at out home for the entire install. Everything went smoothly from start to finish and the cleanup was perfect. We couldn't be happier with Doug and have and will continue to recommend him because he's the best! If that isn't enough, his prices are extremely fair!

+ -1 moreDoug arrived on time on 10/4/11 and restrung a honeycomb blind in the master bedroom and adjusted another in the dining room. He advised us on managing a long-standing problem with a Vertiglide on our sliding door to the deck. For years it had been grinding off flakes of metal every time we struggled to open or close it because the hardware at the top was not gliding. It was binding badly. He said the top hardware was bad and that he'd check with the manufacturer to see if a replacement was available. He called us later the same day to say replacements were no longer available (it was 15 years old) and a whole new Vertiglide would cost $1,300. He found out, though, that he could send the whole unit in and new hardware could be attached to our current honeycomb fabric, which was in good condition, and the cost would be $670. We agreed to that solution. Three days later he removed the Vertiglide and sent it in for upgrading. Two weeks after that he installed the refurbished unit, and it glides better than it ever has. Doug was prompt, professional and pleasant to work with. His work was top-notch, and I'd recommend him without reservation.
Description of Work: On 10/4/11 Doug Johnson came to the house to restring a honeycomb blind that had a broken string and to advise us on repair or replacement of a badly-functioning Vertiglide on our deck door.

After our initial phone call, he was at our house within a few days, showing us his window treatments availability, measuring our windows, providing a Proposal, and providing a very fair, competitive price. + -1 moreDoug is extremely professional, thorough, and patient. He came to our house for an estimate, which was in writing and sent by email later that day. The estimate was clear, gave us two options for our skylight blinds, and included all charges with each option. He also brought several fabric and color examples and was very patient during our selection. He did not pressure us or "sell" us for either option - just explained the pros and cons opf each and let us make the decision. As soon as we did, he ordered the material and called to give us updates on the timing of shipping, which was nice. He was also always very responsive to phone calls or emails. On the day of installation - which was scheduled as soon as our materials arrived, Doug was very professional, did an exceptional job installing and programming the motororized blinds, and thoroughly cleaned up and discarded the old blind, boxes etc., and even swept up after some dust fell down from our old blinds. And his charges were exactly in line with the estimate. We would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Doug Johnson removed our old skylight (manual) blinds, installed new, motorized blinds, and also fixed broken strings on other blinds we had in the home.

In addition to having a price point that was at or below our other estimate, Doug from Suburban Window Fashions provided great service from start to finish. He was very thorough, gave me the pro's and con's of the different options and was very courteous. He wasn't high pressure at all. There was none of the "I can offer you a discount if you sign paperwork today" stuff. From the point when I called for the estimate to installation, Doug was very communicative. He always answered his phone, but what was even better (for me) was that he was always accessible via email. When I was deciding between products, we actually went back and forth over email a few times as he answered different questions I had. Overall, I couldn't have been happier with the process, the product (a Hunter Douglas, Top Down/Bottom Up, Thermal, Blackout Blind) and the company. Doug is a great guy to do business with and I would unconditionally recommend Suburban Window Fashions.
