I'd been concerned about trusting this kitchen set to anyone to refinish but saw the excellent ratings for Montalbano on Angie's List and felt I could entrust it to them. I emailed them, sending a photo of the set to be refinished, and Richard Montalbano called me within minutes to provide an estimate. I decided that the project was worth the cost and called him back to schedule pick-up. Their crew arrived on time, were friendly and efficient, and took the set to their shop to do the work, plus the additional chair. I paid about half the cost at that point. Richard kept in touch with me through the process, checking with me to ask if I'd like to have the extra chair refinished as well as repaired at some additional cost, which I decided to do. I asked his advice on the type of finish that would be most appropriate and he was very helpful -- I went with what he said he would use if it were his kitchen set. He'd given me an estimate on the time the job would take which turned out to be quite accurate, about four weeks. He called when they were ready and we scheduled the delivery. Again, the crew was on time, friendly, and efficient. When I saw the result of their work, I nearly cried -- the wood was a lovely warm tone and all the pieces were beautiful. The chairs were as solid as new; couldn't even tell which seats had been split. The additional chair also looked absolutely new, with no sign of the severely split seat it had had.
Description of Work: Stripped three colors of paint from 70-year-old oak kitchen table-base (enameled steel top) and matching chairs; repaired split seats and loose joints on chairs; refinished set in clear finish. Repaired and refinished additional old oak chair with badly-split seat and loose joints.

This company was very good. They were efficient and got the pieces back in the time they promised. I had to deliver the products, but since they were small, I didn't mind. The price was on the high side, but their work was very high quality. I would use this company again, but it depends on the price.

Not quite the quality I expected. There was wood putty on the bottom of the chair not sanded or clear coated. There were drip marks on one of the rockers, no clear coat on the under side of the back rest and the owner failed to fix drips in the parking lot.

After the work was completed and furniture delivered, we noticed some minor issues with a few of the pieces. I called Richard and he had a touch-up repairman come out to our house within a week and resolved the problems. We are very pleased with all of the pieces that Montalbano Furniture restored for us. We have a couple of more pieces that we want to take to Montalbano's to have restored in the near future. Thank You Richard.
Description of Work: Disassembled, stripped, reassembled, refinished and upholstered my dining room set, antique piano bench, antique hall bench, antique chair, hope chest and antique secretary desk. We also purchased a beautiful hand carved armoire.

Overall a very good experience. I inherited a C1929 sofa and chair made by my great grandfather. They had been in continuous use for almost 80 years, the last 3 years they were stored in a basement. They had been reupholstered at least once by my grandmother. I had estimates done via email by three highly rated companies, Montalbano was in the middle price wise. I chose them because they were a family business and the style of furniture they make is similar to mine. I went to the factory to pick fabrics, and they let me take home a few sample books for my family to look at. My only complaint is the fabric I selected had an old price marked on it-the actual price was about 40% more per yard. I found that out when I placed the order. I could have chosen a different fabric, but the one I selected had already passed my family approval. I had an Angie's coupon for the fabric which basically covered the price differential. They picked up the furniture and I got it back within the estimated time. The delivery men were careful and courteous. The furniture looks great and has met the approval of my great aunt who remembers the day it was first delivered in 1929. I'm hoping the furniture will last another 80 years.

The staff was extremely professional and responsive. They repaired the table in time for Thanksgiving, although Thanksgiving was only two days away, and called to let me know when the legs were ready. Prepayment was required.
Description of Work: Montalbano repaired two pedestal legs for a 1950's dining room table. Each pedestal had three feet capped with bronze. Montalbano repaired the feet where they were coming loose from the pedestal and tightened or re-nailed the brass feet caps as needed.

I took the table to the shop where I was given a written estimate. They completed the work pretty quickly, and I was able to pick up the table soon after it was dropped off (within a couple of weeks). I walked into the factory to find someone on a Saturday, even though their hours are "open", but the worker stopped what he was doing and loaded the table. When I got it home, decided the color match was not that great, and a sticky place on top (which they told me how to remove; hello, that's a project!). They offered to redo the top (if I brought it back) or give me a 50% refund. I took the refund.

I was very satisfied with their services. They came when they said they would, they were very professional, and I was charged what was quoted. Overall, everything was excellent. There were a few problems-for instance, they stained the sideboard much darker than I asked them to. The stain was not only darker than I had asked, but also much darker than is appropriate for the piece, and they also glued the back on our bookcase instead of cutting a portion and repairing it, but that was a minor issue and would not be obvious unless you were to look for it. I did pay them for it and accepted it, but I plan to bleach the sideboard sometime down the road. Everything else was done how I wanted it, however, so I was happy overall. They did a beautiful job on the repairs, and I was pleased with their work with the exception of the dark staining on the sideboard.
Description of Work: They refinished a sideboard, a table, three bookcases, a chair, and a stool, and did some repair work as well. The chair needed new springs, one of the bookcases needed a new piece of backing, and the stool was broken.

Located them on Angie's List, reviewed their website and contacted them. They had Saturday hours which was great for us since away all week. Their work was excellent and we are extremely satisfied.

I called to inquire and described the problem. He asked to send a picture which I did. In 15 minutes I had a call back. Pick up was arranged for later in the week at a time convenient to us. They were on time to pick up the piece. They brought it back earlier than expected. We had it in time for a party we hosted. The workmanship was excellent.

FABULOUS! Richard Montalbano set up appointment for estimate, arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Furniture was picked up at our old house, restored, and delivered to our new house. They estimated 8-10 weeks, and they were finished in 8 weeks. Words cannot express how WONDERFUL these pieces look. Grandma would be so pleased! We'd highly recommend Montalbano's services. They are worth every penny.

The salesman came to the home with books of popular fabric samples. The first choice of fabric for the chairs turned out to be discontinued, so we went to the factory to choose a different fabric. The selection of fabrics in the showroom was extensive, and we found a fabric we liked even better for the chairs. The salesman explained that it would take some time for the order to be completed due to summer holidays. It did take about as long as the salesman said it would take. The day after the chairs were delivered, I called to report a problem with the buttons on the backs of the chairs being misaligned. Mr. Montalbano was very nice and apologized for the problem (sight unseen). He had the chairs picked up the next day. They corrected the problem and redelivered the chairs. There were no problems with the bench. Everyone who has seen the chairs and the bench has commented on how nicely they turned out. The fabrics are very nice, and they did a nice job with the upholstering.
Description of Work: Recovered 2 chairs & had the exposed wood refinished.($1,968 total for the two chairs, without tax) Recovered a Queen Anne style bench & had the exposed wood touched up ($731 recover & $95 touch up without tax) Pick Up ($80) & Delivery ($80) Note: I used an Angie's list coupon for a discount on the fabric.

After getting a quick tour of the showroom and factory, Mark was very helpful in helping us find the right fabric. Pick-up and delivery was painless. After seeing the chairs he called back with an estimate that was $100 higher than our first quote. He explained the difference (a slim cushion was required) clearly and we agreed. We are very pleased with the work. Our two old chairs look brand new. The work was fastidious and not a single detail was overlooked.

Their work is absolutely amazing! I recently moved, so I was able to coordinate the estimate and then the furniture pick-up in advance of my move. I was also able to go to the furniture factory and see the refinishing work in progress and all of the pieces looked amazing at that stage of the project. The factory too is an interesting place to visit as well. Bottom line: my furniture looks amazing and the finish is superb! Everyone I dealt with from Mr. Joe, who did the original estimate work, to Richard, who personally managed my order was polite, professional and top-notch. I will forever cherish the new life they've given my antique furniture.

It went beautifully from start to finish.
Description of Work: The fronts of four drawers of a storage bed had warped and pulled away from the rest of the drawer. Montalbano removed the outside wood, glued and screwed the backing to the body of the drawers, then reattached the outside wood. I was surprised it could even be done at all, let alone at such reasonable cost and so well, that the repair is unnoticeable.
