Description of Work: Mike Carrano came out and gave us an estimate for drain tile work - We accepted the proposal by email and a phone message. We waited a 3 months to set up a work date, but Mike never called us back or replied to email. Very unprofessional and frustrating.

Description of Work: Rite Way Injections located and repaired 3 major seepage leaks in my basement. Their injection techniques are effective and economical compared to Perma Seal and U.S. Waterproofing, who want to dig trenches around your house, install pumps and such costing you thousands of dollars. They arrived on time and spent 6-8 hours working. Within days Chicago had the worst rain I had seen 30 years. I was afraid to look in my basement at the former seepage spots. Well, I looked at all ,of the spots and I could not find one drop of water anywhere. Rite way injections are the best.

Description of Work: Mike of Rite Way did a complete inspection and suggested various alternatives to best fit the solution. The best, as we both agreed upon was the simplist and as it turns out the most cost effective. A simple reworking of the gutter and downspouts was all that was needed. Mike was prompt in answering my SOS, efficient, professional and even solved another problem on the spot; a chimney cap hanging low and not attached securely. I was very pleased and gratified to have both problems fixed so expertly.

The problem has gone away.
Description of Work: I love these guys. They were the probably the 5th or 6th company I called from Angie's List right after I discovered water had been leaking through the foundation of my house-- probably for years. Once the drywall was removed, you could see a steady trickle of water coming in where the wall met the floor. Like I said, I called a bunch of companies from Angie's List for estimates. The first guy wanted to dig a trench around my house and waterproof the front of the building for $2K or something like that. Another wanted to cut out and re-cement part of the floor -- I think the bid on that was about $1K. Yet another proposed digging a path through my basement to connect the sump pump to the drain tile. That was going to be $4k. The fourth showed up and suggested injecting the crack for $350, which was a lot better, but that company wouldn't guarantee the work beyond five years. Finally, Mike and his partner showed up, looked at the situation, and said referring to the previous estimates, there's no need for drama here. They could seal it up for $350 and would guarantee it for some crazy of years (25? 30?) They came to do the work a week later, explained what they were doing and called me down when it was time to watch the foam work its way through the crack (it's worth watching.) I could see for myself that digging a trench through my basement or re-cementing the floor would never have fixed the problem (the crack went from the window well to the floor -- so a patch at the floor wouldn't stop the water.) The whole experience made me realize you really have to get a number of estimates and see for yourself whether you think the descriptions of the people on Angie's List match up to the people who show up at your door. These guys are even better than their description.

Description of Work: Mike CARRANO is a rare contractor. He found the source of a major air infiltration in a wall that 2 other companies missed and wouldn't have repaired if I hired them. He takes pride in his work and works to solve the problem, not just patch it. Over the past 2 years I've had 8-10 different trades at my house because of a 135k addition. Mike is top notch and just the best.

Description of Work: My experience with Rite-Way just goes to show that you can't always judge a service provider based on first impression. In April, 2011, I contacted Rite-Way largely based on the numerous glowing reports I read in Angie's List. True to his word, Mike came out to view and assess my lower level seepage problem. Mike diagnosed the problem as a poorly placed downspout that came off of my small conservatory attached to the front of my house. Mike said that he needed to get a couple of sections of the plastic PVC gutter in order to reroute the placement of the downspout. While he was there, Mike also discovered that I had an electrical problem in my conservatory that had caused pumps to cut off. In no time, Mike had the pump running again. He gave me the name of an electrician who could come out and do the electrical work that was necessary to correct that problem. I appreciated the referral. That electrician came out and did a great job on a timely basis. Needless to say, I was very impressed with Mike. So, the electrical problem was fixed but my gutter problem and need for water proofing was not. I began to call Mike repeatedly to find out what the hold up was on getting the work done. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. Sometimes Mike would return the call and sometimes he just ignored me. When I finally got a hold of him, he told me that the PVC pipe he needed was made in England and he was having problems finding someone who would send him the few small parts he needed. He told me he would stay on it, that I shouldn't worry, that he would take care of it. Foolishly, I believed him. It is now October, 2011 and Mike has done nothing further. He did not return my last call. The last time I talked to Mike I said that he should tell me if he didn't want the job. Mike protested and told me that he would do the job. Nothing ever happened. In retrospect, I was foolish to believe Mike and wait so long for him to do the work as he said he was going to do. I now have to find someone else who is more responsive and responsible. Caveat Emptor, people.

Terrific!
Description of Work: Mike came out to give me a second opinion on my basement seepage problem. The other vendor estimate was about $5900 to treat the entire basement, recommending that option although the actual problem now was limited to one wall. When I explained that this had started suddenly after a rainfall, Mike looked carefully at the basement and then asked to go outside. In between the narrow space between my neighbor's house and mine, he spotted a horizontal downspout crushed at the precise spot where the seepage always started. Eureka! He recommended that I ask the neighbor to replace the downspout and see if that "fix" could cure the problem. He advised always looking at a simpler solution first, before spending a lot of money. The neighbor graciously complied, it has rained a few times since, and no water seepage in the basement! I spent zero dollars when I could have spent almost six thousand and that woudl not even have addressed why the water was seeping into my basement. I am very grateful to Mike for his expertise and professionalism and recommend him very highly. He cared more about how to solve the problem than selling his services.

Mike was the first basement waterproofer to get back to me after our record rainfall caused 2 basement crack to seep into our finished basement during our record rain weekend in September. He was able to come out and give me an estimate that day. Also suggested some strategies that we might do ourselves to keep us from having further problems. I scheduled work to be preformed the next week. They were flexible when I had to change the time the day before the work was scheduled. They arrived on time and left no mess.

Owner came and gave me some options for how to approach our wet basement. Suggested that we start with the gutters (cleaning them out) and how to go from there. I really appreciated that he just didn't give me a quote for a drain tile system like the other two contractors did. He looked inside and outside at the problem while the other two contractors only looked at the basement inside. Really felt like it was a gutter issue and I had to concur as there were little trees up there.

This company was not able to perform a service for me.
Description of Work: When was the last time you had a company help you without charging a dime?? I called Rite-way in an emergency situation and had the good luck that Mike Carrano came knocking at my door. Mike's company could not help me, but he was able to point me in the right direction. Not only did he give me some good pointers, but plugged up my basement hole and did not charge me a dime. I gave his card to my insurance adjuster and pass his name out to anyone that will listen. By the way, Mike is also, a very fine man. Nancy, Chicago

I will do the projects he suggested, and then call him back to do some simple repairs to my foundation.
Description of Work: Mike walked me through my basement, as well as around the outside of my house, explaining potential water problems. He was extremely thorough. He also recommended I have a plumbing project completed and then test my foundation for leaks prior to having him come out to do a job. He spent alot of time with me; he seems like a very honest guy who has the customer's best interest at heart.

This was a great experience. We've been in our house just under two years and had leaking in the basement. Mike came out and spent about 30 minutes with us going over every possible issue. He taught me all the things I didn't know about my sump pump, my drainage, etc. He checked everything, including finding and pointing out all the cracks in the front of the house that should be sealed, the leaking around the coachlights, finding and digging out a drainage tube that had been buried and filled with dirt, possible grading problems, etc.. He saw 2 cracks in the basement, but he said I might want to do all the things he told me first and see if that didn't fix the problem. He never put any pressure on us to fill the cracks immediately. But we trusted him and knew that if the work was done, we wanted him to do it. So I called him the next day and he came back out the next Saturday and filled the cracks. The work was clean and precise and he cleaned up the area and even removed some drylock I had mistakenly put down to seal the join. And then, the very next day, Mother's Day, we had a torrential storm. I saw water in the basement by one of the injections. I called Mike and left a message, thinking we'd work it out during the week. But he called me right back and came out on Mother's Day to take a look. He tested everything! It turns out we found that the two injections were actually bone dry and holding up beautifully. But the window right above one of them was leaking and pouring right down into the same space. This guy is great. I have already recommended him to a friend.

Contacted on phone, promptly came out. Described the problem and Mike suggested solution to solve problem by running down spouts to new drainage pipe that he installed along newly dug 8" depth trench of approximately 50 feet. Work was done as agreed. Very professional and reliable. Pleased with results.

We previously repaired the crack ourselves using a low pressure injection product purchased at Menards. It worked ok for a couple of years, but the product failed a few moths ago. We cut out the drywall and repaired the crack again, but it failed again within a couple of months. Again we cut out the drywall. I called Mike and he came out within 24 hours. He explained how his high pressure injection would force the Urethane into the crack. We were amazed to see urethane oozing out all along the crack on the inside and the outside. He explained how the product would expand as it dried. Mike was very professional and personable. He was careful and left the area cleaner than it was before he came. He answered all of my questions and made sure I understood everything he was doing completely. He told us to run water on the outside of the house the next morning to ensure the job was done 100%, and assured us that he would come back out immediately if necessary. It was not necessary.
Description of Work: Mike used a high pressure injection method to repair a 5 foot crack in our foundation that is holding up beautifully. He was extremely thorough and made sure the product completely filled in the crack from inside to the outside and top to bottom.
