Olson Windows Doors & Siding

I was referred to Olson Windows by our realtor when we purchased our new house. It had a HUGE picture window with double hung windows on either side. When I contacted them for an estimate, they were able to tell me right then when they could come out to take measurements - even though I had no access to the interior. This was a big deal since no one else I contacted would give me an estimate without being inside and because it was time sensitive, I couldn't wait until after we closed. Once I received the estimate, I was able to approve the work and give them the downpayment over the phone using a credit card - thanks Yvette! As soon as we had the keys, Brian came out to take the final measurements to order the windows. He was very prompt and responsive to our schedule and provided options and advice while there. When Brian was ordering the windows, he found he couldn't get the exact size picture window (5' x 8') so he called me right away to discuss alternate options that would provide the best windows. They never suggested adjusting the estimate, etc. which sometimes happens. When the windows came in, the work was promptly scheduled around our schedule and the installers were on site 15 minutes early and began work right away. We were expecting a big mess and some collateral damage after removal of the old behemoth window. Much to my wife's delight, there was NO mess at all and the only thing we have to do is prime and paint a very narrow piece of trim on the inside. On the outside, it was like they'd never been there - except for the beautiful window they installed! The installers were very professional, courteous and very efficient! The end result is a picture pefect view of our front yard and beautiful sunsets in the evenings! Thanks guys!

Great job! We really appreciated Olson WDS's creativity in designing the attached shed and in being careful that the project was built to code. Kevin, our sales rep, visited with us multiple times to go over design options and questions. Also, the work crew's experience with all aspects of the project was a big factor in it's success. The crew, managed by George, was very efficient, polite and neat. This was important to us since the work was taking place next to our family and laundry rooms which were in constant use during the construction. They were careful to remove all of the old glass windows and other material. George would check in with me whenever there were opportunities to make adjustments in the look of the shed with outlets, light fixtures, etc. The new Pella windows were installed smoothly. The creativity of Olson WDS was key factor in choosing the best windows since we wanted to maximize natural lighting, privacy and air circulation. They easily matched the existing roof and gutters. The finished room looks better than we had anticipated! It looks so good that I thought about turning it into my own man-cave with easy chair, flat-screen tv, etc! But for now it will serve as a much needed workroom for my work bench and tool cabinets. The neighbors have commented on how good the attached shed looks from the outside of our home. A big improvement in our home's curb appeal!

I have quoted more than four different contractors to replace all windows, Olson was not the lowest price one, but I decided to go with Olson because the reviews on Angie?s List were so good. The result, I make the right decision. They have done great jobs on the installation, I do not want to repeat the contents that many other reviewers have already written, here I want to mention their attitude toward an issue showed up during installation, they were trying the best to address the issue to make customer happy. The old front windows was covered by wide siding panels, they put new windows and covered with new aluminum coil. Unfortunately, it is hard to make aluminum coil surface flat enough when to cover a bigger area. After I pointed out the issue, they were willing to try to address the issue, they torn down aluminum coil and put new siding panels, and then sent painter to paint it, and the front windows are looking great at the end.

It took a while to get the doors based on Pella being closed during the holidays for 2 weeks. As soon as they were installed in January the finisher called and set a date for finishing. When I didn't like the color we had picked (looking for red but it came out too orange based) for the main door he offered to get another and came on Super Bowl Sunday to finish! It looks great now with the correct shade of red!

I have used this company for all my replacement windows, they did the same great job 5 years ago as they did on Wed. Delivered on time, installed perfectly , and left my home in the same shape they it was before they started, clean and with 5 perfect windows and doors installed. Always answered my phone calls with real people that knew what they were talking about, answered every question i had and did what they told me they would do.... A+A+ BOTTOM LINE

It went great. The salesman, Scott Thorson worked with us over several months reviewing options, drawbacks and benefits. In the end we were very pleased with our choice. That pleasure was then enhanced by the installation work done by the crew from Olson. My biggest fear was that corners might be cut or problems buried, but when the installation crew found rotting wood under one of the doors they pointed it out and did a great job with repairs (at no additional cost). Finally, the interior staining and finishing work was first rate. The final finish is the closest match I have seen to my existing oak floors and we couldn't be happier.

Overall, the project was completed by Olson WDS with excellent work and service. Kevin and George (the crew leader) were very good about telling us what to expect. The crew worked long and hard. All of them were extremely polite and careful to watch out for our kids or other visitors approaching the home while work was going on. George had some excellent observations on things that needed my attention but which were unrelated to the siding project but important for the home exterior. He and crew members also checked with us on some of the critical design changes before completing them. They installed new outdoor light fixtures that we purchased and assembled. When my wife and I didn't like some of the changes when we saw them on the house, Kevin and George were great at coming up with a better solution. The crew was careful to install the Hardie product according to the manufacturers instructions-- this is critical for the long-term effectiveness of cement fiber board-- not any easy process with all of the trim and some of the angles around our exterior. Kevin, the sales rep, checked in on the project regularly. Any time I called with a question or concern, Kevin and George were very responsive. One of the hard parts of the job was out of everyone's hands--the awful weather. The bad weather kept delaying the project. Given the size of this job, there was a lot of material -- trim and siding-- stored on our yard. The material was covered and safe; however, due to weather delays, it stayed on the lawn longer and made it more difficult to restore the lawn. (We had the option to pay for a storage container on the drive way and we should have done that to avoid the hassle of lawn restoration.) Also, the weather delays were far more than anyone expected so this caused a delay in projected completion date. Kevin and George run a tight ship with crews and scheduling so when the project got delayed, they did a good job of juggling crews to get our job finished. ( Note: if you have some critical dates in the future where you'll need your home-- weddings, vacations-- make sure you work those into your project plan.) The crew was very careful to re-install downspouts and gutter guards. They also cleaned up very carefully to remove any of the nails, cut aluminum and other debris. A few months after completion, I noticed a few areas that needed adjustment with gutters. Also, I had some other work done on the roof which then required some adjustments to some of the trim. I called Kevin and soon was visited by George, who checked out what needed to be adjusted and took care of everything. They really do stand behind their workmanship guarantee. The home looks spectacular. We've received many compliments from neighbors on the design.

Kevin the salesperson was very detailed during the quoting process covering items like colors, grain finishes on both the siding and trim, trim options, flashing, etc. We had another vendor give a quote and no details were covered. Although that company provided a rendering of the house of what it would look like, just a flat price was given. Olson had every detail listed. The other vendor left us with three color samples after we described what we thought we wanted. Kevin left the entire color palette so we could choose. When we got the two quotes we couldn't even compare since so many details were missing on the other. Once we got apples to apples, Kevin was $10K lower. The crew was punctual and pleasant every day. We knew them by name and it was actually welcome to see their smiling faces in the morning.The project finished on time with no hiccups. Every night they cleaned up the house and used our garage to store all the equipment. Outside, only work tables remained in the yard each night - all debris was placed in the dumpster they had arranged. All in all, it was a great experience. They even installed new exterior light fixtures for us that we were going to do once the project was over. I would definitely give them a look.

Everything from the beginning to the end was fantastic. Scott was a wonderful on the sales side of this project. He was very knowledgeable, a good communicator and kept in touch through the entire process. Scheduling the second measuring meeting and the installation was smooth and efficient. The installers were a Father and Son team. Christo and his son did an outstanding job installing the windows and project cleanup. In addition, they were both very pleasant, answered all my questions and worked quickly. I will absolutely use Olson Windows, going forward. I will strongly recommend Olson Windows to all my friends. I had called for quotes on my home due to woodpecker damage on my siding. Additionally I had issues with doors and windows that had been unprofessionally installed previously by a listed famous brand certified contractor. One quote was from a friends recommendation, I had an issue with the brand of window they wanted to install based on my research. The second quote was from a highly rated Angies list member. I did not go with them because they stated they were very busy, had long customer list and couldnt give me any definite time when they could do the job. The 3rd quote was from Olson, Scott. The price was competitive and in line with the other quotes I had gotten. They had good ratings on Angies list and I also checked with the better business bureau. The windows were a bit higher in price than the other brands I was looking at but were in line with what i found in the net for that brand and found mainly positive reviews( park avenue windows). They also gave me a time frame when they could do the install and held to that. The person for the windows measurements(Tony) came out on time and measured all the windows.He was superb, I would ask for him again. During that review he showed me that not only had the prior contractor undersized my windows, they undersized my doors. The space underneath the cladding wasnt even insulated. Because the prior windows were undersized, the contractor had cut off all the nailing fins. That is why I had so many problems. Tony also recommended I go with siding up to the windows and not clad. We still cannot believe the difference that simple recommendation made on the look of the house. Great. All the installers were very professional. Because of my past experience I stayed at home most of he first day. The work they were doing was first rate and I saw the difference from the prior install. Ditto for the siding, doors, gutter and soffit replacements. Those installers also showed up on time. The house looks great, much better than I ever imagined. And our house is much more comfortable from the improvements. I am waiting for warmer weather to have the painter come out and take care of the doors and interiors. That was part of the process. Really, I couldn't have been more pleased and will use them again for my front door which was also undersized by the previous contractor. Highly recommended based on my experience.

Excellent! The representatives came on time. The quotes were very competitive. The windows were installed on time and without any problem. The installers were courteous and left no mess. Great folks to work with!

We were interested in replacing a few old windows in our home. We called Olson Windows Doors & Siding for an estimate and Scott Thorson came out to our home. He arrived on time and gave us a presentation on their Park Avenue vinyl windows. This was a pleasant, informative meeting, not a high-pressured sales pitch. Scott measured the windows and a few days later arranged to meet us to go over the quote. We felt that the quality and energy saving aspects of the Park Avenue windows, along with the expert installation that Olson would provide, were worth the cost. (We had considered double pane windows installed by a local big box store.) Olson Windows Doors & Siding has an excellent rating on Angie’s List and is on EBSCO’s Best Pick Report, this also factored into our decision to hire them. About a week later a representative of their company came out to remeasure the windows to ensure the correct fit. We were told the windows would be ready for installation in about 4 weeks and they were. The installers arrived on time. They were very courteous and did an excellent job installing the windows and cleaning up afterward. Scott Thorson remained part of the process and came out to our home to check on the installation in progress. A few days after the installation a painter came out to caulk and finish the trim in a paint color of our choice. Scott contacted me to see if I was pleased with the windows and to ask if I had any questions. The windows are beautiful! It was a pleasure working with this company. We would recommend them to our friends and would be happy to work with them again.

Our patio doors were original to the house and were rotting as was the trim around them. Olson came out to give an estimate on replacing them. They had great suggestions on what would compliment our homes exterior. We were looking to replace the french doors and transom window above the doors but decided to go with a taller set of french doors and eliminate the transom allowing more light to enter the house and create a more dramatic look. We would not have thought of this option ourselves and were delighted at the design element Olson brought to our attention! Our intention was to get several estimates on this project, however , we were so impressed with their professionalism and knowledge of the products avaliable that we made a commitment right away. The installation was within the time frame we were given and went smoothly with no damage to our homes exterior. Their painter followed up with us within a few days and did a great job painting the interior of the new doors and trim around them. All in all it was a positive experience from start to finish! We would highly recommend Olson and would definitely use them again! Our new doors are beautiful!

Overall it went extremely well. We are very satisfied with the windows and the installation was relatively "painless". We thought the Olson window field estimator as well as the installers were very professional, efficient and nice to work with. We definitely would use them again if we decide to replace the balance of our windows and doors.

My experience with Olson was great. During the decision making process, I got a lot of estimates and I took a long time to decide what I wanted, but the staff at Olson was very willing to answer all my questions. The installers did a great job. I've had the door / windows for a couple months now and am very happy with them.

A week after Olson gave us a quote, we signed a contract to have the work done, since it was the best quote we found and the Angie's List reviews were so glowing of the company in general. When the representative was here and before he left, I asked if we could change something on the contract; he calculated the additional cost and we indicated on the contract that we both agreed with the change. Two weeks later (! after we'd thought the door had already been ordered; we could not back out of contract after 3 days, right?), we received a call saying that they had bid too low and needed to charge us more. "This never happens to us," the representative said. Needless to say, we were not happy since our other quotes had by now expired. After a bit of discussion, they decided to honor the contract they had signed more than two weeks previous. Fast forward six weeks, when Olson finally calls to schedule the door installation. I rearranged my schedule to make sure I was here on the appointment morning at 11 as they indicated. The Olson representative calls to make sure all is going okay at 10:30; I remind him they said they won't be there until 11. Well, long story short, I waited until noon. When they still hadn't shown up, I called back: apparently there was a "communication mix up" and they weren't coming that day after all. "We never do this," the representative said. How come I've heard this before? Well, today, the installers came at the appointed time, they installed the door very nicely without incident and in a timely manner. I am relieved that the work has finally been finished. In short, Olson WAS able to do provide a competitive quote and they were eventually able to get the door installed nicely. I'm pleased with those aspects. We had selected Olson after reading the positive reviews on Angie's List, so I won't say we'd NEVER give them a chance again. Maybe our experience was truly a fluke for their company. But we were not impressed with the unprofessional "we never have this problem" excuses that we ran in to during the long waiting process of getting our door installed. It was a frustrating situation for us.

Wonderful company. People are polite and responsive to phone messages. Timeline for project was accurate. Workmanship was the best. I never felt like they were rushing to get the job done. I would definetly recommend and use them again.Scott Thorson oversaw the project and he was very professional and pleasant to work with.

As mentioned above, my experience was excellent! I've had Olson Windows, Doors & Siding out before to do work and they do an excellent job. I'll be calling them in the future for sure!

Our project to replace window and sliding doors started with water leaklng through a basement ceiling from a faulty, poorly insulated sliding door on a second floor deck. We contacted two suppliers: Olson Windows, a local Barrington company (847 304-8713) and Anderson Windows. We were both very pleased with the low pressure but informative presentation from Brian Olson who made a sincere effort to understand our goals and needs. The Anderson presentation was more "high pressure" but supported by a computerized "pitch." We selected the Pella Windows by Olson. This was a very pleasant experience from beginning to end. The price was $3,000 less for what appeared to be similar doors. All the time lines and promises were kept on the projected timeline. The installers were efficient and left the rooms spotless when they were finished. We had very minimal disruption over the two days to complete the installation of three windows and two sliding doors. The project was finalized by a professional painter who matched and painted any wall or moulding damage. We were very happy with the project and final results, especially the installation. Our fears about damage to our expensive window treatments were groundless. We are now air-tight with the changes to the trim outside and our leak has disappeared. Brian was also very helpful in facilitating the process for getting approval from our Condo Association for the change. We would srongly recommend that you check with Olson before starting a window replacement project.

The salesman was very courteous and professional. He was patient with all my questions and was prompt in returning my calls. The installers were eager to get started, but the weather was not ideal. It rained off and on all week and the installation took a little longer because of this. However, they were very professional and worked diligently when they could. The installers did a fantastic job removing the old windows, installing the new ones, and cleaning up. They had some challenging windows to install and they took their time to be careful. The quality of the windows (Milgard Tuscany) seem to be very good.

The consultation went very well and they answered all of my questions, gave a good price and installed two beautiful doors. They did such a wonderful job I am thinking about windows next.

Brian came out and provided estimates some time in June right after I purchased my house. I explained to Brian that this was my first house purchase and that I was going to be doing a lot of repair. He recommended that I get an account at Angies list since there were good reviews of the local companies from real customers and that for number of repairs I am doing that this would be good source of information. Of course he also pointed out that they were greatly rated as well. I compared the estimates with others and it was relatively high. I was about to go with someone else but wanted to get an explanation of why the price difference. Brian provided other options and also explained that they change not just the window but also the trim around the window to get better insulation. My wife and I went to their Barrington store to experience the windows. Due to some other rebuilds around our house, we signed the contract with them on July 1st. Because of their busy schedule and the number of windows, Brian explained that they would not be able to perform the job for 6-8 weeks and that they would call me when the windows came in. Due to anxiety, I called them toward end of August to ask about status. They said that windows were not ready. They were not able to install to start the work until 9/12. The day of the job, installers came on appointed time (little early but better than late in my book). When the job started, two interesting experience for me. First, the installers told me that they can take down the shades but they don't normally reinstall the shades. But they were willing to do it if the head office tells them to do it. **** I looked at the contract and it says that they do not reinstall the shades. For those replacing windows first time, please note this. This put me in an odd position since I am not that handy and so I had to call handy man to install the shades.*** Second, if you have many windows, they may start the work when they don't have it all of them. The installers told me that they didn't have all the windows. But they said not to worry since this is 3 day job and so perhaps the windows will come in while they are doing the work. Sure enough some of the windows came in the second day but not all. Toward the end of the week, I called the office and asked when the window will be available and they said that they will be available in a week. I asked if they can paint the trims so I can get the shades installed. She said that they rather do it on one day and so I should wait. I dropped an email to Brian and he had the painter call. The painter said that he was extremely busy but that he was willing to do the job on the weekend and so he came on 9/24. Thankfully, he painted and installed the shades. I like the windows I have but didn't like the experience. Again I put the cavet and say that this is my first house and I have never replaced windows before and perhaps it is the timing given that they are in busy season but this was not the experience I was hoping for when I signed for window replacement with Olsen. Disappointed by the lack of communication about what was going on. I gave an A for punctionality since once we had the date, the people were on time. I gave a B for responsiveness because I was hoping that I would get some response about the status of my 2 windows.

Our experience from our initial visit to Olson's showroom through installation was excellent. Yvette took time to show us some of the products that were available. Dave (sales person) was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in working with us to select the correct products for our home. Olson's installation team of Tony and Bill did a great job. They treated our home as if it were their own.

I was not pleased with the experience at all. The man showed up without a display so I wasn't even able to see an example of their product. He included frames in the estimate when we didn't ask for that and seemed kind of pushy about getting us to purchase that as well. I didn't like his presentation at all and we will not be using him in the future.
