We were impacted by the April 2013 flooding in Lisle area. Our property was under several inches of water and a most of our existing mulch was washed away. The landscaping was in dire need of some TLC as there was debris in the plant beds and through the yard. Rudy and his team came out and did all the clean up as well as the standard spring cleaning, plant bed maintenance and used about 30 cubic yards of mulch. They also did some work around the drainage pipe that runs under our driveway. They cleaned it up, cut away some turf and laid river stones for better drainage. They also planted 25-30 new plants from the Morton Arboretum plant sale that we picked up. The property looks great and several of our neighbors have stopped by to complement us on the looks of the work. We also signed up with them for the on-going maintenance work (mowing, weeding, fertilizing, and fall clean-up). We look forward to working with Rudy and his team!

Went really well. Got postponed cause of all the hard rain but the final product was good.

I pinged him via Angie's list, and three or four days later he called saying he would quote the work. But he never called back. He never followed up. This is my first experience with Angie's List. Can't say I'm impressed. I know spring is a busy season, but if I can't count on the List to provide someone who takes my request seriously, then what good is the list. Disappointed, Dave

This was the 3rd year we have used Semper Fi for our landscaping needs and as usual we are very pleased. Annually we have them come out to clean up all of our beds, which includes edging and supplying new mulch. This year we also had them build a Unilock wall in our backyard. We have a raised bed which is quite large (130 ft) and due to it's height, after mulch was applied and it rained, the mulch would end up in the lawn. To solve this problem, Robert recommended a 9" wall. The wall looks wonderful and after last nights rain, the mulch is now contained and everthing looks great. Robert and his men are very professional and work very hard to make sure you're happy when the work is completed. I would recommend them highly.

I don't have the best lawn but very satisfied with the service. When the company did not have to cut the lawn , they did not, and did not bill me: Honesty (most of the time time I was not at home and really would not have known).

So far they have been fantastic. The spring clean up looks so good and they made sure to clean up every last thing, not all companies do that. They have a new design lady who came over to our a house and obviously new her stuff. She walked us through what she thought would be good or bad choices. She gave her opinion while respecting ours. We are looking forward to seeing the transformation!

They were quick to respond and the owner was real friendly. There were no negatives. We had to do a 15' x 15' area to do a garden so they did sod removal and till the ground. They also put fertilizers in the ground. When we went out to look at it, it was actually a foot short on both sides. From an accuracy standpoint I don't want to squabble about a foot so I will give them a 'B' overall.

The crew widened the lilac bed and installed red curving tiles around it. The bed was weeded, and then five flats of Vinca were installed, increasing the ground cover material. The crew carefully worked around Daffodils and Grape Hyacinths already there and weeded the bed. Then a border of brown mulch was placed around bulbs and ground cover, followed by applicatin of peat moss among the flowering bulbs and ground cover plants. Two established lily beds were weeded,mulched with brown mulch, and edging was done. We are very pleased with the results!

This company did a great job. They were neat and left my yard looking like no one had been there.

I first contacted Semper Fi in March of 2012. After an initial good first impression, it took quite a while for them to get us a contract. Once it was signed, the owner indicated he was backed-up and it would be three weeks before they started. As a result they didn't begin the lawn care until too late in the season, which allowed hundreds of weeds to pop up, thus we spent the entire summer battling weeds. We contacted them in twice about the problem, which they insisted must have existed before they took over. The reality is the previous year, our lawn was lush and green with few weeds. The draught compounded the problem and by the end of the year, our back lawn was a complete mess. We had to call several times to get SemperFi to adhere to the scope of services. For example, they failed to trim the bushes for several months despite us calling, which allowed the bushes to grow to more than four feet above the height requested. They never treated the lawn for weeds over the summer. And at the end of the season, they didn't do any fall clean-up until we reminded them it was part of the original contract. We are back to spliting our landscaping and lawn care contracts. Finally, since both of us work full-time, we were rarely at home when the work was performed. Late in the season, our nanny, who is at the house all day, informed us that on several occassions, one of the men doing the work had made inappropriate comments to her, such as asking about her marital status, whether we were good employers, how much we paid her and why we weren't home during the day.

They did a great job, I would highly recommend. He went above and beyond.

I used Angie's list to find Semper Fi to fix work done by a service I hired based on a flyer left on my porch. The price was very reasonable and I really appreciated the clarity of the communication. They came when they were supposed to come and did the service they were hired to do. They even sent me a follow up communication. I would definately use them again.

I was very happy with the work that was provided. Robert Velazquez was prompt at returning my call and was on time with the appointment. He gave me an honest estimate and stayed within the budget. He informed me that the work would be done in approximately three weeks. I appreciate his honesty with the appointment and the approximate date when he would provide the services. He was right on the mark and completed the job. He left the front of my home looking beautiful and very well maintained. Even though we only paid for seed and there were several patches of dirt the yard looked 100% better. We will probably have him come back in the spring and have him re-evaluate our lawn. My husband and I were both very happy with the end result.

Semper Fi Yard Service Inc came to our home and did clean up work in our garden. They did a very nice job with it. They also trimmed our tree. Iwas not as happy with the work they did onit , but they did a great job in our garden

We called for a quote back in June/July and Robert was able to come out and provide an estimate the first day we were available. While we liked Robert and the quote we received we ultimately decided to hold off on the work until the fall. In September we called Robert back and he came back out to review the quote. The scheduling of the work hit a snag as we had a vacation scheduled and then we had concerns about planting grass seed so late in the season. Robert advised that there should not be any problems, and even provided a written guarantee that the seed would germinate before the end of the next spring. Despite our hesitations we trusted Robert's judgement and now 2 months later the grass is coming in strong in the front yard. Great overall service and we look forward to using Semper Fi Yard Service in the future.

The good: did a good job and was willing to give me some lawn advice. My lawn was damaged by the extreme heat and drought over the summer so it needed to be repaired. Almost all of the seed grew and the lawn already looks 100% better and much better than I thought it would look with a year of growth. The good weather factors in here but they did a good job abd I recommend them. The bad: they were a couple of weeks past the promised date. The crew also showed up not knowing that I had a sprinkler system so it's a good thing I work from home or they would have damaged the sprinklers. The sprinkler head locations were supposed to have been marked beforehand or they were supposed to deliver the little flags to me so I could do it.

The garden was done quickly and looks great. I am considering expanding the garden to a larger size. Rudy layed gravel under the timbers to level them, filled with soil and added compost. Rudy added rebar to the timbers to secure them in place.

Too bad. I would have liked to use them. I'm doing a large scale landscape project in the spring and they will not be on my list of contractors.

I was very impressed and happy with their work. Robert was great and answered all my questions without a patronizing manner even though I know absolutely nothing about such matters.

Our contact person, Rudy, got us a quote within a day. It was in line with prices we found elsewhere. He gave us an approximate date for delivery. As time got closer he gave us an update. They arrived on that date and did the work. Lots of digging because these had big root balls. As the last time we used them, they did a very professional job and left everything cleaned up. Except that we have new trees you can't tell they were here. i will (and have) definitely recommended them to neighbors.

The owner came over for the estimate and also supervised the work to be done. I found this company on Angies List List and hired them because of their flawless reviews, and reasonable quote we received. I would definitely recommend this company. Check out their web page to see the beautiful work they have done. The owner, Robert, is very professional and experienced with paver brick work and landscaping of all kinds. My neighbor also hired this company a couple weeks ago and was very pleased with the work that was done.

when all is said and done we are quite happy. however, there were times when they weren't as responsive as i would like, either in getting an estimate back to us, or in letting us know the workers wouldn't be here on the day they had said they would be. we are retired so it didn't matter that much to us. but if you are not readily available at home, be sure to get a committment from them or tell them they have to call you to let you know if they cna't make it. be prepared that if there is, or has been, bad weather, they might be delayed as some of the workers are also guys who mow lawns and if there was bad weather their workloads might be backed up. the sales person - Rudy - we worked with was very knowledgable and personable and he had good ideas. some of the other contractors i met with just parrotted my ideas back to me, but Rudy was more creative and suggested things. the trees look healthy and the garden beds and edging were done very well. the trees appear to have been planted properly to my untrained eye. the fence is very nice. sturdy and very well installed. the workers who came were very good and did the work carefully and well. everything was cleaned up well when they left. since we really like the work done our overall rating is an A and we are happily enjoying our updated back yard.

Robert brought out a crew of 3 men who were very professional and hard working. They cleared the area, brought in gravel and laid outcropping rocks to deal with the steep grade. Plantings, mulch and grass seed were added as agreed. A full clean up of the area wrapped things up at the end of the day. The end result is a striking improvement to what we had before. We were very pleased with Robert's work and his staff. The only issue we had was that the work was completed several weeks after Robert's fist estimated date, due (I think) to his business being so good. We would use him again for future projects.

On the 7th of September, the crew arrived and removed all the old plantings from all three beds, removed the black plastic edgings from all three beds. They deposited good quality soil in the middle of the beds for the next day's plantings. They carefully preserved an old electric line by one lamp post. They did hand edging of the beds. On the 8th of September, they filled in the soil on the septic bed, planted the new plantings, and placed excellent dark brown mulch compost around the plants, and watered them in. Meanwhile, a crew member carefully fit and cut the stone pavers in two tiers around the 11' lamp post beds after gravel was placed and tamped carefully as a base for the pavers. Following that, the plantings were installed in good soil, composted with the excellent dark brown mulch, and watered in. The crew members were professional and very skilled. They worked quickly and expertly. We are very pleased with the result.
