I was very satisfied and glad I chose them over the other companies. Its a family own business, father and son. The son came out and explained what would happen. They had all the equipment and cleaned up after themselves.

This was our second experience with Gray's. Previously they removed some bushes and pruned 2 maple trees. After the initial call for a quote, they were responsive and came out within 2 days to provide an estimate. We had a little miscommunication about the exact trees that we wanted worked on which they were able to resolve over the phone. There was also some miscommunication about scheduling the actual work. They were able to come and perform the work while I was not home during the week which was very convenient. They did a good job and left the yard very clean with almost no trace that they had even been there. When pruning trees they tend to take off a little more than I would like but the end result looks clean and neat. They tend to lollipop trees instead of thinning them, overall. This does let in more light, but it is not as natural looking so be prepared.

Was able to complete job within two weeks from accepting offer. Not bad considering most companies were not handling job scheduling well, since this was after major August 2007 storms.

I was referred to Gray Tree Service by Jerry at Rustic Fence, who said they would give me a good price. I thought the estimates were outrageous--more than 50% higher than quote of another reputable service with good Angie's List ratings. Based on past experience, the work should take a three man crew less than 4 hours (figure their costs at $20/hour per man = $240, plus travel time ($120, assuming one hour travel each way) plus allocation of truck/chipper shreder costs plust admin and overhead allocation plus sales commission; rest of the $1515 is profit.). When I asked if I was being charged a "Winnetka Tax" (meaning a huge mark-up because so many contractors think people who live in Winnetka are rich and stupid) Dick claimed no--that the high price resulted because travel time would be charged to and from Arlington Heights. I do agree that Dick knows trees, and most likely the work would have been well done.

A team of men showed up on time and got right to work. They did a good job on cleanup overall, and worked quickly. My only complaint is that the man in charge was sort of a jerk (this was a few days after a VERY large and damaging storm, so I'm sure they were working their butts off). I asked him how much $ he would want to also take out a buck-thorn in the back yard -- he simply refused the extra job. (Probably would have taken these guys an extra 5-10 minutes). Overall they did a great job on cleanup -- they actually cleaned up some brush that I had cut separately, which I didn't even ask them to do.

Excellent service. They quoted me within 24 hours and performed the work within 3 days. The quoted me a very competitive price, and the crew did exactly what they promised to do. And...they cleaned up all the branches and wood. Great job, guys.

Company rep drove by while in the neighborhood. I happened to be home and was able to show him what I needed. He offered to come back in the next few days and simply send me an invoice. The trees were gone by the next day. It was painless!

I never did actually see Rick or the folks doing the work, but my phone conversations were extremely pleasant, and Gray Tree came within a week and did exactly what was quoted. Had I not noticed the trimmed trees I would never have known they were there. The work was exactly what I needed done, the yard was spotless, and the stump was gone as promised. Fantastic work, and I got all I paid for and more.

Other than mis-communications regarding scheduling of the work, I was very satisfied with the work performed. The owner of the company remedied the scheduling problem promptly and to my satisfaction.

Carl came out and gave us the estimate and he was very easy to work with. He noticed that the trees hadn't been trimmed in a while and put that work into the estimate separately. Because of the weather, he couldn't nail down a scheduled day for the work, but did call the morning of the day that they were going to do the work. They did a great job and cleaned up any debris - if you didn't look at the trees, you wouldn't have known that they were there!

Returned call promptly and delivered wood two days later.

It took them a while to provide the estimate, but they seemed knowledgeable. I had already decided on another contractor when I heard back from them.

After calling Gray Tree Service on Monday around 8:30, Richard, father of the owner Rick, showed up around 9:30 to give me an estimate. I showed him the hanging limb and the ironwood tree that needed trimming. He explained that they were busy with downed trees in the area caused by the storm and it would be 7-8 days until they could get to me though because of the precariousness of the hanging branch, they may be able to make it sooner. His price was more than reasonable, and his honesty and easy demeanor made me comfortable. I had trouble getting a confirmation call from them that I was on their list of jobs; Richard called me 5 days later to confirm and apologize for the delay in calling. The Gray crew came 8 days later and removed the limb, trimmed the ironwood tree and removed a dead pine I had forgotten to mention to Richard. The work took no more than 1 hour and the crew cleaned-up everything. I highly recommend Gray TreeService and will use them again when needed.

Had a very good experience with this company. Carl was the main contact and led the team that did the work. He was very friendly and punctual and they did a great job.

The company representative did not return my call.

THEY WERE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE OF ALL THE ESTIMATES THAT I GOT & THEY WERE WONDERFUL. THEY WERE VERY AMAZING TO WATCH & VERY PROFESSIONAL. THEY CLEANED UP BEAUTIFULLY, EVERYONE WORKED, & THEY DID A GOOD JOB. THEY FAXED ME THEIR INSURANCE CERTIFICATE WHEN I ASKED. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

I HAVE HAD RICK DO WORK ON OUR HOUSE 3 TIMES NOW, AND HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH HIS RESPONSIVENESS AND WORK. ONE TIME HE MISSED A BUSH THAT WAS TO BE REMOVED BECAUSE OF A MISCOMMUNICATION ON MY PART, AND HE CAME BACK THE NEXT DAY TO TAKE IT OUT. THE WORK AREAS ARE ALWAYS CLEAR AND EVERYTHING HAULED AWAY. OVERALL, HE HAS PROBABLY DONE $2000 WORTH OF WORK FOR US AND I HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH ALL THE WORK!

THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE USED THEM SINCE 1998 AND THEY ALWAYS DO A GOOD JOB FOR A FAIR PRICE.
