It was pleasant getting an estimate from them, but the price was too high.

While I was more than satified with the work performed, I would have preferred to see some pricing to know that the cost of the services I was getting was worth at least $400 or more.

A company from Lake Bluff came out and did a quote and another company from Arlington Heights also came out. Gray's called me back about 48 hours after I called and requested a quote and said I was too far away. My house is 25 miles from Arlington Heights, which I didn't think was all that far away. The other Arlington Heights company was happy to come out and gave a very reasonable quote. I was simply disappointed that Gray's wasn't interested and now I need to call other companies. With the recent storms he apparently doesn't need to expand his current base of business.

I bought 2 of the big deals ($99 for $200 work) on 8/19/2011. I hadn't read any rviews on Gray Tree Service. I called Gray and Rick came out a couple of days later and quoted me $550 for the work. I thought that was a little high but I told him to go ahead. He said they wouldn't be able to do it for a couple of weeks due to the increase in their business. I then looked up his reviews and saw what others had paid them and what work he did. I saw similar or even more work done that I wanted done for less money. I called Rick back on 08/29/11 at 11:30 AM and then on that same day at 1:30 PM I heard a chipping machine start up and a chain saw start. No one even told me they were there. Hmmmmmmmm!!! Said they were in Naperville and came by to do this job. They cut the branches and cleaned up the brush around the yard very well. They were done in about an hour. There were about 8 guys working so it went fast. I just wasn't happy that it cost another $150 when others got more done for less. Taught me a lesson!

Overall, I was very happy with the work. Although the owner did not accompany the men who actually did the work, the crew seemed competent and were very polite and professional. My only disappointment was not getting any of the mulch from my trees, as the company's shredder was not working that day. The crew did, however, cut several large limbs into firewood for me. In the past, I have worked with another tree company which also does a great job, but their trimming prices are prohibitive. So, I was happy to discover Gray's Tree Service; I would hire them again.

When a tree in our vicinity fell, I began wondering whether any other trees were at similar risk. In particular, there was an ash tree that appeared to be showing signs of disease, and since it was close to our house, I asked several tree services to come look at it. I ended up choosing Grays Tree service. Although their price was not the lowest that I found, I ended up choosing them because of their responsiveness and clear explanations. They did a prompt, professional job with minimal disruption of the property. I would definitely use their services in the future, and recommend them.

I became aware of Gray Tree Service when a Big Deal was offered on Angie's List. I purchased the Big Deal and was surprised to hear from the owner, Rick, a few hours later! We made an appointment for Rick to come out to provide an estimate. On the day of the appointment, Rick arrived on time and spent over 30 minutes reviewing and answering questions about the work I wanted done. One of the questions I asked was about removal of a 60 foot evergreen that was located between our house and the neighbor's. I was concerned about the location and possible damage to one or both of the houses. He assured me he had a very experienced crew and the proper equipment to do the job. He actually specializes in difficult to remove trees. He was very willing to work with us on price and we accepted his estimate. The work had to be rescheduled several times due to heavy rain, but each time, Rick would call early in the morning to let us know so we could make other plans. The day the work was done, the crew arrived on time and the work took the exact amount of time that Rick had estimated. The skill and equipment that was used to remove the large evergreen was amazing! We actually had several neighbors comment on how impressive it was to watch such a skilled team! They literally took the tree down branch by branch and each branch was lowered down to the ground with a rope. The actual removal took approximately 3 hours and was completed without any damage. While one part of the crew was working on the tree removal, another part of the crew worked on the tree trimming. They were very willing to work with me and follow my direction as to how much I wanted trimmed and where. Despite all the debris caused by the tree removal, the crew did a great job of cleaning up and took everything with them. We are very pleased with the work done and the responsiveness and flexibility demonstrated by Rick and his crew. We would definitely use them again and have already recommended them to several neighbors.

The service on the trees were great.

Everything turned out very good with this company. They were very efficient and professional with their work. They were very easy to work with and I don’t have any complaints with them. I would use this company again.

I got a coupon for $99 for $200 worth of tree service. They were fine. They came out and gave me an estimate and then they said they would be back. So they came back within a week. I wasn’t even at home when they came out. They knew what they were supposed to do. They were fine and they did a good job. I paid them for it. They were very prompt even though it was before we had the bad storms. They were still very prompt. There was no mess or anything when I came home. They cleaned up well. I thought their price was a little high but I don’t know what the prices are for trimming trees. They were the only ones that I used. They did $200 worth of work for $99, but it ended up costing me $250. So I sent the coupon with an additional $50. I thought the price was a little high. I don’t have any comparisons and so I don’t know. I would probably call them for an estimate may be in the future. I will use their services again in the future.

I had a tree removed and was really happy with them. He was extremely responsive - he returned my call that day. My tree was removed within the week. He did the job while I was at work and everything was done perfectly. It was done nice and neat. He was a very nice guy.

Company allowed me to spend money on a Ash Tree that was already infected by a Emerald Ash Borer Disease, EAB Emerald Ash Borer was announced as being here in Illinois in 2006 and has been decimating Ash Tree's in the state ever since. As I had purchased my home in September 2010, I wanted to get the trees serviced early in the year. I purchased two coupons from this company. The arborist came out to bid the job. The 30 year old tree in front of the house was an ASH. I now know that the tree was showing signs of Emerald Ash Bore disease. I was never told that the tree was showing possible signs of the disease and that based on this it was not a good idea to spend money on trimming a sick tree. I recently contacted this member again to to get his opinion regarding options for my tree. On this appointment he never even got out of the truck. He drove by, saw the tree and sent me an email telling me it would be $950 to remove. No options. It had EAB. Sorry. After speaking directly with the member he says that is what the tells people with Ash tree's, not to trim them if they show signs of EAB. I said, why wasn't I told this? No coherent response. One of two things happened: A. The arborist was not skilled enough to warn me regarding the condition of my tree. Keep in mind in Carol Stream as well as through out Illinois, EAB is well known. There are 6 tree's on my street alone, infected with the disease. B. The arborist didn't really care, thought he would just take the money and move on. It appears that it was not such a good deal after all. FYI - Update 6/1/2012 - The member never directly contacted me regarding his offer below. In reviewing my account I found his response today. Very much appears this response was to save face on this forum and not to actually mediate the issue. If the member had contacted me directly I would have negotiated with him and revised my comments. Instead I hired another contractor to remove and replace the tree.

Called for an estimate , he came that day in the afternoon and they were out a week later to do the job. It was a pleasure to have work done the way it should be.

It was a very positive experience. The owner came out himself and did an initial inspection and showed us which needed to be pruned and we showed him which ones need to come down. He was friendly professional and explained the process very well. They came out a week later and they were great and easy to work with. We had an old wooden cedar play set that was right under the trees and they actual disassembled it and took away at no extra charge to us. We were very happy and would definitely use them again for either the pruning or if we ever had any other trees that needed to be taken down.

I purchased a Big Deal for landscaping services from Grey Tree Service - specifically I needed a tree removed and stumped, and a few other trees trimmed. Rick Gardner, the owner came to my house to discuss what I wanted. He showed up exactly when he said we would - quickly got to the point and within twenty minutes we had decided on what services I would have performed. He set up his team to come to perform the work and they also showed up virtually exactly when promised. The crew included about 6 workers and all necessary equipment. They knew exactly what was to be done and quickly got to work. They spent about three hours first felling a large tree and cleaning up all the remainder, then removed the stump and trimmed out the other trees. They cleaned up all the remainder before leaving. Al in all an excellent job by all.

The company was prompt in returning my call, even calling over the Memorial Holiday weekend to give me a quote and answer my questions. They were on time, and completed the work very profesionally. My yard was cleaned up after they left, and nothing was damaged anywhere. I was very happy with the price and the work they did.

I called Rick from Gray Tree Service and set up a time to get an estimate of the work to be done. We have 3 large trees in our outdoor space all which have not been serviced in over 10 years. Rick came out but I missed his visit due to my taking care of my son. Rick looked at the trees from outside our house anyways and was able to a**** the necessary work, and give us an estimate. Rick and I played phone tag for a few days until we were able to reach each other to schedule the actually work day. The team arrived on time and were up and running in no time. They had 2 men who climbed the trees in order to trim the trees and a team of 4 guys who where collecting and hauling the branches to the chipper. The men used proper safety equipment and used and rope and pulley system when cutting off larger branches to ensure that there was no damage to the building done. The did an excellent job shaping the trees and ridding the trees of all dead branches. They even cut down some small bushes that i asked them too for no extra charge. They cleaned up the yard off all branches and sticks and used leaf blowers to clean up the smaller bits. The whole job took about 3 hours. Now the trees have filled in and look healthier than ever. I would recommend Grays Tree Service and would call them back in the future

They were excellent regarding the tree trimming and were excellent regarding hauling away all the debris. They removed the stump of the tree. They cleaned up after themselves. I just thought their price was kind of high, although I didn't have any other company to compare with. They were a little late getting back to me.

Our tree had not been trimmed in years and was way overdue.We had our tree trimmed by Gray Tree Services. Very fair price. Came out to look at our property for an estimate and we had an appointment within 2 weeks. On time, did a great job and great cleanup.Our tree looks better than it has for many years. I highly recommend Gray Tree Services.

It was as easy as acompany came by and gave me an estimate and specified that becuase of the Easter holiday, it would take a week or so. I was in no hurry so that was fine. But it was nice that they gave me the heads up. After almost three months, there are few branches I need to clean up and dispose of. They arrived when I was at work and when I returned home, the work was completed and there was no evidence that they had been there, having cleaned up so completely. It was obvious which branches were removed and there was a follow up call the next day.

The day was EXTREMELY hot and humid and I invited them to eat their lunch in my air conditioned, finished basement, but they didn't want to come in. They did however eat a quick lunch in the shade on my deck. Since I was home, I was able to tell them exactly what I wanted done and they completed everything I wanted, as well as cleaning up everything when they were finished.

Overall, the job went very well- and the crew went above and beyond what I could have expected. I had made a special request that one of the tree trunks be cut into segments and set aside for a future use. The crew did this beautifully and as if it was no trouble for them. I was also impressed with the fact that a couple of the crew assisted me as I worked in the yard trimming out some bushes- by carrying the branches to their wood chipper. This favor was not only kind and gentlemanly- but was performed spontaneously and without request for payment. In addtion, one of the crew gave me excellent advice on the next phase of my landscaping project.As a It was a pleasure to work with Rick and his crew. I would recommend them highly to anyone needing tree service on their property.

They provided a prompt quote for the job and completed the work within a couple of weeks. You would never know the tree was there..... no sign of a stump and no mess left behind in the garden. I was not there the day the wrok was done, but when I inspected the job a week or so later, the tree was gone and there were no twigs, leaves.....or even sawdust anywhere. They did an excellent job and I would use them again. As for price, we got this work done with an Angie's List Big Deal, so we saved about $100 on the job.

Overall I am happy with the service and would use them again.
