They were able to complete the job without us being home! Cleaned everything up nicely. It's like a whole new backyard!!!

Both my husband and I called to get an estimate for service, on different days. Neither of us ever reached a person but we both left messages requesting an estimate and leaving pertinent info. Never heard anything back.

Last contact with provider was 08/08/2015. He said he did review what I was asking about and would call me the next day(Sunday) as he was out of town. Provider never called or left written proposal for work to do done. No work was performed Job went to another Angie's list provider

Trimmed and thinned out magnolia tree in front yard. Tree had a combination many dead and overgrown branches. Rick did the work under a Big Deal offer. He did the estimate and the work without requiring my presence (missing work, etc), which was appreciated. I am pleased with the results and would use Gray Tree Service again.

I was impressed with Gray Tree Service. They were able to handle the last minute change to the job after discovering the split. They did a beautiful job cleaning up the trees as well as the yard below after they were done. Since that time we've had two huge windstorms and a derecho come through which brought down huge limbs throughout the neighborhood and one in a tree two houses down. Our bolted limb came through just fine even though the derecho successfully knocked over our weighted basketball hoop just 20 ft away and flattened perennials throughout the gardens.

They were on-time and did an excellent job of cleaning up. Would use them again.

I was very impressed with the service during the entire process. I placed a call, gave my address and what I was looking to have done, and received a call back two days later with the cost. Because the tree is located in our Parkway, a permit needed to be pulled from the city in order to trim the tree, which Gray Tree Service took care of. About four days later I received the date of our tree trimming. They came out and we're running early which was much appreciated! Three or four trucks pulled up and immediately two gentlemen were in our tree and there were five or six other staff members there with chainsaws. They made quick work of trimming or tree and making it look a lot more healthy. When the city redid the store line, the contractor took off all the branches on the street side so it was now an odd shape and parts were dying off because they had done such a horrible job trimming it. From what I understand, it is a4 year waiting list to have the city trim your tree at no charge. Every time it rained we were having branches fall, and given this companies standing on Angie's List, I thought they would be the right people for the job. I was absolutely correct! We could not be happier with the job that they did, they gave us advice on a lilac tree we had just planted, and they cut up the branches from the tree they were trimming so we could burn them in our fire pit. From beginning to end, gray tree service was professional and exceeded our expectations! They took what could have potentially been a very stressful situation, made us immediately feel at ease, and made us very happy! I highly recommend calling them if you need your trees trimmed!

Showed up a day early but still able to do the work. They did a great job and cut up the wood for us as well trimmed neighbor's tree on our property. Honored an Angie's List coupon that we forgot to print out. Very happy with the work and would highly recommend them!

Gray's was WONDERFUL! We were thrilled with their service. The team of workers came, saw, "conquered" and cleaned up in a very short amount of time. Couldn't have been happier! Will use them again in the future.

Rick Gardner, the owner, responded to my inquiry very quickly. He provided a free estimate without my having to be at home. We communicated by email, phone, and texting; he said I could contact him any time, any day. The only issue was that if I wanted the stump removed, the gate and hinges on my fence would need to be removed in order to get his equipment into the yard. There was a two-week wait to get on his schedule, but that was OK. He said it would take 2 and a half hours. His 6-man crew arrived promptly at 7:30am, the scheduled time. They were very professional and worked like a well-oiled team. All wore hard hats and the 2 who climbed the tree wore additional protection. All wielded power saws. The men in the tree tied ropes around branches before sawing and the ground crew maneuvered the hanging branches making sure they didn't land on either shed, the fence, or my plantings. They cut up the larger pieces for firewood for my neighbor and the rest went in their chipper. They did a good job of cleaning up and were done in less than 2 hours. Everyone was friendly and pleasant and I was very appreciative.

We've used a half dozen other companies over the almost 40 years we've owned our home, and this was by far the best service, the most professional work, and most reasonable price. A crew of five or six worked diligently for a couple of hours trimming and shaping our trees, removing dead branches and limbs, and cutting off hundreds of unsightly (and unhealthy for the tree) "suckers." They always asked for our input/opinion, and had us check every tree to make sure we were satisfied before moving on to the next. Several crew members hauled away the debris and left the yard looking as clean as it was before they arrived. They obviously work well together, and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. The foreman also checked their work and the yard before presenting us with the bill, and once again we were pleased that we were able to use a couple of Angie's "deals'/coupons that reduced the bill by almost 20 percent. Great job at a great price!

We hired Gray Tree Service because of all the positive reviews on Angie's List. The 30 year-old maple tree in our yard was shading most of our yard and would drop branches and leaves on the ground after heavy storms. We also had a half-bare evergreen next to the front door removed. The crew arrived on the date promised and promptly went to work. Some worked high in the tree, others from atop the garage roof, and others on the ground. While the trimming was being done, others were feeding the cut branches and debris into the wood chipper. They all knew their jobs, worked together efficiently, and were polite and courteous. They raked and cleaned up the smaller debris quickly and thoroughly. We're glad we checked Angie's List to find a good company to do the work, and we are very satisfied with Gray Tree Service. We would use them again, and we highly recommend them!

I purchased the services through an Angie's Big Deal- $200 for $300 worth of services. Rick from Gray's responded through email promptly and came to our house a couple of days later to survey the scope of the job. I did not need to be home for the survey. Rick then called and left a voice message on my phone that the work could be done for a total of $600, less the $300 value of the Big Deal. I called back and left a voice message that I agreed to the price and to schedule the service. Somehow, my voice message must have not gone through or got lost because I had to call Rick again a few weeks later when I had not heard back from him. He apologized for the missed call and the service was performed on a mutually agreed date. His crew arrived on time and began work. After trimming out the branches, they cleaned up everything and left. I would have liked for them to knock on the door and ask me to review the work before leaving since I spied a few branches that they missed, but overall I was satisfied.

The service was great. Very responsive on the phone and showed up early to do the work. The crew did a great job of getting the work complete and cleaning up afterward. The price was more than another quote but I wanted to go with someone that had a great rating. Probably slightly more expensive but worth.

Gray had done work for me in the past and they came through once again. They were prompt, professional and did the work that was requested. I was concerned about this tree because it was an ash and we had had some reports of Emerald Ash Borers in the area. They trimmed away the distressed branches and gave me hope that the tree might make it through unscathed. Unfortunately, the tree had to be removed 18 months later when the infestation hit our neighborhood, but their service allowed us to enjoy it for another season.

It was initially delayed because of severe weather but Rick completed the job on a Saturday.

Very easy to schedule, prompt contact, enjoyed that I did not have to be home for the service. Tree looks great and yard was spotless. Will use again.

All went as planned I also got a quote for a dying Ash tree in our easement that was $3,000. That was a bit high for not on my property but we live in Chicago and worry it will never be taken care of. I paid them to trim off one section over my yard. Removing trees is expensive everywhere.

Gray Tree Service showed up in the morning, blocked the street off and began to trim the trees. About eight workers were there and two, with chainsaws, climbed up each one of the pine trees. They began cutting branches and lowering them down to workers below, who would then run them over to the giant wood chipper that was stationed in the street. When they were done, I asked them to remove an overgrown evergreen bush and they had it cut down and shredded in five minutes. They cleaned up the yard and drove away. The entire job was completed in about 20 minutes.

The were on time, professional, cleaned up the yard and stump removal areas. They completed the job quickly and my yard looks better for all their efforts.

Gray did their usual excellent job. Trimmed a number of trees to achieve better shape and take out a few dead branches, and selectively trimmed some of the older trees to aid growth of the newer ones. Cut down and removed a dead Scots Pine and ground the stump. This was done amazingly fast. Gray brings a large crew and is sure to clean up all debris and leave the property looking better than they found it.

Provided estimate timely. Gray Tree arrived at the stated appointment to perform the work. Removed the trees and stumps as agreed. The foreman (Carl) and all the men were very accommodating as to limbs to be removed and amount of trimming to be done on the other four trees. Work was performed for the agreed upon price. This was very much a no hassle experience. Entire operation was very professional. This is my second experience with Gray Tree Service. Both were very satisfactory.

Rick the owner came to house and gave us a quote. He was professional and easy to work with. He always returned my calls even if it was late afternoon of evening. The crew came on time when he said they would. They worked with my husband until he was happy. Great experience all around. Would definitely use again and would recommend to friends.

Overall satisfied. Showed up with plenty of guys and equipments to do the job. They did a great job cutting down a big pine tree next to the house. Only problem I have is one of the guys on the tree was cutting down the branches and tossing them down. As he was tossing one down, it hit the siding of the house, creating a small dent. The foreman apologized, which I was ok with but he said to make up for it they would take away the the branches. They were suppose to do that anyway. If he apologized and left it at that, I would've been completely satisfied. However, his remark left little more to be desired. Bottom line, guys did a great job and will use them again.

They came out to give me a quote on removing some trees, the dad was sent out first to provide the quote, instead of the person I spoke with. No big deal. They gave me a quote, I asked to send as an email. They sent it, like a week later, with me asking them repeatedly for it. After talking with forestry folks from the village, I decided to have one of the larger trees not to be cut down so I wanted them to come back out because I wanted to add some bushes/small trees in place of that one of the larger trees was staying. So the guy sent his dad again, at this point I still have not met the guy I have been talking to, the dad says that with all the new bushes/small trees it equals the one large tree so the price would not change. I told him, OK well please send me a new estimate with the updated details so I can confirm everything. I did not hear anything from either the guy or the dad, but they started processing my request before I actually agreed to anything. They did not follow up to really confirm if I had said lets move forward. I said I wanted a new updated estimate. So I got another company out and they actually had a lower bid, so I agreed to this new company. So basically there was a mix up with communication but at no point did this company call me and confirm anything. All I got was a letter from Comed saying that the power to the whole block would be on a certain date. I then asked the new tree removal company I decided to go with and they said they didn't put in that request but I tracked down it was from Gray Tree Service. I called them and told him that I never agreed, that I was waiting for the written estimate, and saying "OK, please send me a written estimate" is not an agreement. He started yelling at me saying how I am trying to deflect my mistake onto him. How his dad was out there and I said OK. Well I have to say that, why were YOU yourself not out there and not sending your dad as the middle man. Oh he also said that he called and left a message, which he did not. This company is not professional and very rude.
