Gray Tree Service

The work this year was performed in a timely fashion and done well. It's after this that things went bad, to our surprise and anger. My mother paid the invoiced amount ($500) as soon as the work was finished (she handed the check to the worker directly). The check was cashed promptly, but my mother received more than one nasty phone call from Rick, the owner, himself. He asked where her payment was and why he didn't have it yet (this is two weeks after the work was performed). He wanted proof of payment. My mother said the check had been cashed by Gray's and had the cleared check, the number of the check, and the date it was cashed. Rick yelled at her and said he would take her to small claims court to sue her. He wanted her to provide proof from the bank. My mother had told Rick she was sick (Lupus) and elderly (77 years old and widowed). He did not let up and continued to harass her, yelling at her on the phone. I called Rick and left a message, telling him to contact me to clear things up or I would file a claim with the Better Business Bureau and write a harsh review. He yelled at me and said that asking my mom to help him get proof of payment was like he had, "asked her to kill someone." (verbatim what he said to me). I asked him what his payment process was and if he had an accounts payable department. He stated that he deposited them himself every week. He said he failed to mark my mother's invoice as paid and called her to get proof. I asked Rick pointedly why the burden of proof rested on my mother when she had paid him, told him the check was cashed and had the check number and date. All this because he couldn't keep his records straight. He made excuses that mortgage companies ask for proof of payment all the time (and I asked him if this happened to him after his checks were mortgage checks were cashed... and he admitted "no"). I then asked him, "Did you check your own bank records to see if my mother's check had cleared," and he responded, "No, I didn't." Then I said, "So, let me get this straight, Rick. After my mom told you that she paid right after the services were performed and informed you that she had the check number and date, and that it had cleared, you STILL threatened to sue her rather than check your own bank. Is THIS what I'm hearing??? You're not even contrite about it. I haven't once heard an apology." He continued to yell at me, so I told him I'd follow through on my promise to contact the BBB and file a formal complaint against him, as well as write a thorough review. There you have it. What kind of vendor treats its customers this way? I was an Operations Manager for a 1.2 million square foot Class-A office building downtown and dealt with multiple contracts and vendors. I've never had this kind of experience in my life or career, and his behavior is reprehensible. Never use this man's services if you can help it.

They called a day after I bought the groupon, estimated it that afternoon, and the job was complete the next day!

The crew from Gray did a great job. A large crew came and trimmed all of our trees large and small (14 trees). Cleaned up so you would not know they were even there, except the trees look so much better. We will definitely use Gray Tree Service again.

Rick came out and gave us an estimate the day after we called. Work was scheduled and due to the rain had to be rescheduled but Rick called with updates and kept us in the loop. The guys were here early and set up before they rang the bell. A group of guys came in got the work done quickly and efficiently and left a clean area. A 1 team of guys.

I could not have asked for more prompt and thorough service. The estimate was done quickly and clearly. When the team arrived it was larger than I expected and made quick work of the removal in a quick manner.

SO WELL! Gray's came out very fast to give us the estimate, and it was lower than their competitors. They were the first to respond to our estimate request, and they were super fast in coming out to get the work done. They sent out two men who were fantastic! They ground out the stump, removed the wood chips (even raked the lawn so it looked nice!), and then gave me great advice on how to put sod down once the ground settled.

I have used them quite a bit in the past and I have been very pleased with them. They are excellent and timely. They have done a variety of jobs including tree removal (from a large tree falling on to our house) and trimming of trees.

Rick was very attentive and answered all of my questions. He came out quickly to assess my request and performed all the trimming I asked him to do. The trees look great and the area was cleaned up beautifully. I'll definitely use Gray Tree Service again!

Went well. Crew came out, got the work done quickly and left me the larger branches to use in my fire pit as i requested.

They arrived early and the crew foreman reviewed the scope of work with me. They completed the work efficiently and cleared away all the debris. It looks great. I'll definitely call them again when the need arises.

Excellent! I sent an email to Rick from their website and he called me the next day to let me know that he would be out to take a look and give me an estimate. He called me the next day ....gave me an idea of what he thought that needed to be done and a price. We discussed the fact that the house was up for sale and he was nice enough to take that into consideration. I decided to go with his suggestions and they came out the following week to do the work. All 3 trees were trimmed and spruced up and looks very nice! Clean was excellent and efficient. I would recommend This service to everyone. Very customer service orientated and their service was professional and knowledgeable. . Thanks Rick for a job well done!

Fantastic! Good thing is that I wasn't required to be on-site, since I was running short on time. Also I have used them multiple times and they have always done great work!

The bush removal and pruning of the small tree in the front yard was as expected. The 'pruning' of the large maple in my back yard was not at all what I expected. While I’m not happy with the results Rick followed up with me after coming out to see the tree. He took the time too explain their process and in the end I agreed that it was as per his analogy a ‘bad hair cut’. So while I will have to wait to get some privacy back I am now at least hopeful that it will happen. Lesson learned to take the time to ask exactly what will be done, instead of assuming it will be similar to past experiences.

This company does excellent work, which is why we called them again after another job they did for us last year. Once again, we are completely satisfied. Rick Gardner, the owner, responded promptly to our request for a quote and came out with his crew to do the work within days of our acceptance. He and his crew are absolute professionals - they know what they're doing and they do it efficiently., from prep work to grinding the stump, feeding it into the chipper and cleaning up afterward. In no time, the monster tree was gone! We highly recommend Gray Tree Service!

I was given a quote of $250 to have a stump removed. The stump is rather small in my opinion, maybe 1 foot diameter. I was a bit shocked by the quote considering some of the other Angie's List reviews and the included "approximate cost" section. One user claimed several tree stumps removed for $150. Others claimed complete trees removed for $450-$750. Possibly inflation or possibly non uniform pricing.

They performed quality work and we were very satisfied with the service.

they came first thing in the morning they took maybe a half hr had the tree and stump out they did a great job they cleaned up and was gone I will call them again and tell my friends if they ever need a tree to remove these are the guys to do it tyvm
