Gray Tree Service

Finally set an appt. When I asked to clean out my tree in back, I was told by person who was running the job, for what I paid, I was getting my money's worth. (I used Angies List coupons. He never went up in the tree -- just clipped from ground. I paid $400 for $600 worth of service. The Hispanic foreman was very helpful even though he kept getting beeped from truck to get in and go.

This was a fairly pleasant experience. We got three quotes and he was the middle quote. They were there for an hour and a half and trimmed all the trees. Price was fair in comparison to what the others were offering to do and stuff like that. Trimmed 4 trees and discarded the limbs and stuff. Great cleanup with a crew of about 8. Some of the trees had big limbs and a couple guys worked on that while another carried the limbs away to the chipper. I will hire them again.

Very well; the work was very well executed. Coordination with the electric company was handled efficiently, and the inconvenience to our neighbors was, I think, minimized.

The rain was very much a factor... A seemingly healthy tree dropped a branch on our neighbor's property and we decided to take the tree down as a good neighbor. It just seemed to take a long time. And then, their truck made a divot in the neighbors' parking pad. They promised to repair - no argument whatsoever - and ultimately did. It just seemed to take a long time. Again, I think the rain was a factor in the paving repair. So - overall good. Would hire again. My experience was probably colored as much by factors beyond their control.

On having the estimate completed, I learned that the amount paid was insufficient for what I needed. The owner of the company explained how it would be completed to my satisfaction in a relatively short period of time, and I would be billed for the remaining amount. *This company usually deals with larger contracts, involving several workmen and large equipment. While I do have a tree line left from a previous farm, when I am ready I would consider re-contacting this company for additional work completed.

I have been using him for years. He does a good job. If I need extra work, like my hedges trimmed, he do that for me. They just show up and leave, no hassle. The grass looks nice. Their price is really good. They do a good job for the cost. It is a good value for me. Can't beat it.

Billing was simple, and it looks great.

Very quick, timely, and professional. Work required disconnecting the electric line, which they arranged with ComEd and had reconnected as soon as possible.

We have used Gray Tree Service for a number of years now. They do a great job. Very responsive - got back to us right away about scheduling an appt. Used Angie's List coupon so we only paid $150 for the complete job. Total job without coupon - $550

They removed a small tree, a shrub and trimmed two other shrubs.

The job was to remove a 60' silver maple with a 4' trunk in my backyard. It was interesting to watch them remove the tree. The crew was very effcient and worked very well as a team. They started at 8:00am and the job was completed by early afternoon. They cleaned up very nicely after the work was completed. They were also very careful not to damage any of the landscaping. I was very happy with the work done and would definitely hire them again.

Very well - Gray Tree Service was out early to remove the trees and got it done in record time. They removed the trees, ground roots and cleaned up everything. They were lots of folks crawling in and out of the trees! It was amazing to watch. Would recommend highly.

We purchased an Angie's List Big Deal, needing our neighbor's branches cut back from our house and roof -- $99 for $200 worth of service. We've purchased BDs in the past that were great deals and others that weren't. This one fell in the latter category. They didn't come out when they said they would -- within 7-10 days. When they hadn't come out 20 days after we purchased it, we called and to their credit, came within 3 days. The owner, Rick, had come by earlier to assess what needed to be done but didn't introduce himself to us, so there was never a face to face. He just said over the phone that he took a look at what needed to be done and would prune back several branches...this despite the Big Deal claiming, "A detailed estimate of all tree service recommendations will be provided." None ever was. We expected a truck to show up with the necessary implements to do the job. A pickup truck showed up with three men and one pruner with an extension -- not kidding. So whatever they could reach from the ground, that was it...for branch's that reached well over our two-story house. They were able to reach four small branches and didn't prune them back as far as we wanted, leaving two overhanging our house. When we called Rick back, he said he would come out to take a look and again, didn't bother to speak to us in person. He called and said the crew, in his estimation, did $200 worth of work...which amounted to 15 minutes and four 2-inch branches. He implied that if we wanted more work done, we would have to pay more. We paid $100 ten years earlier to a company that did exactly what we asked them to do -- cut back several branches -- and they came fully equipped with a truck that included a cherry picker, pruners and ladders. While they only had to use a ladder, they were here for about a 1/2 hour, even asking if we wanted a tree in the back pruned because we had paid for an hour's worth of their time. THAT'S service. Our experience with Gray Tree Service, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired.

They did a great job as usual. I have used them several times in the past 3 years.
