 + -1 moreI tried to fix the problem myself and ended up deleting a needed Windows start-up file. Scott was great. He replaced the corrupted RAM and reinstalled the missing file. Scott showed up on time and completed the work in about an hour. Scott also recommended using a new Microsoft anti-virus program and I have loaded it on my laptop and I am very happy with it. My only small complaint is that a previous tech from ARX had recommended and installed AVG anti-virus which I was never happy with. Regardless, I would not hesitate using ARX again!
Description of Work: Scott replaced the RAM on our laptop and corrected a Windows start up file error.

 + -1 moreOur computer had a virus that had made it impossible to get to any files or the Internet. After exhausting most of the fix-it-yourself advice we'd gotten, ARX was able to remove the virus and all the malware. The computer is now running faster than ever. ARX was responsive, prompt, helpful and polite -- a pleasure. We would definitely call them again and highly recommend their services!

 + -1 moreAnother great experience with Scott. He really knows his stuff. He removed some nasty spyware that had clogged up my computer (that's what I get for indulging in stupid celebrity gossip web sites!). In addition, he cleaned up unwanted programs, fixed a problem I had swapping out Seagate external hard drives, and advised me on a good (free!) anti-spyware program. I also asked him about calibrating my monitor (for photography work) and Scott contacted another client for a recommendation, which I really appreciated

 + -1 moreThe install was wonderful. Scott displayed a very good knowledge of servers and the desk top support knowledge needed to make this project a success from day one. His cost and time estimates were very accurate. Also, he is very pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: Planned, ordered, configured, and installed a server for our small business. About 15 computers are using the server. He installed and configured OUTLOOK on the server and set up OUTLOOK on the desk-tops. He also does very good desk-top support and provides excellent ideas about small business information technology.

Just confirming what I suspected was wrong was peace of mind and money well spent. I was able to do most of the recovery of the files myself, but would have Scott or Ted back in a flash if there were something I needed to be worked on with my computer. Thanks so much.

 + -1 moreI was very nervous about calling for help because I am not very computer literate, but Scott quickly put me at ease.
Description of Work: My call to Scott to find out if he could repair my son's custom built gaming computer (made with special graphics, sound and speed) totally surprised me. He said yes, he can, but explain a little about the problem. After briefly explaining, he said he'd be glad to look at our computer, but first to try replacing the video card which is usually the problem. (We already had the computer repaired twice by two different technicians who each replaced the video card, so we thought it could not possibly be the problem again.) Scott said it could happen again if we got a "lemon" computer, which it sounded like we did. If changing the video card again didn't work, the computer would have a faulty 'mother-board' which is so expensive to purchase and repair, that we might as well purchase the parts and build another computer. He gave me the exact name of his most recommended video card, the manufacturer, and the model number. He also recommended the newest and fastest gaming computer components in case we had to build a new machine. He took a lot of time explaining in layman terms, did not ask for payment for his advice, did not try to sell us his services or the parts he mentioned, and offered for us to call again for further help if needed. WOW! What a great experience. FREE, clear, concise, caring advise to a total stranger (me)! Thank you ARX Computers and Scott! We'll be back for all our computer needs!

 + -1 moreMy computer got fried during a recent storm and I was afraid all was lost. Along came Scott from ARX. We talked by phone the same day my computer died and I learned that he would be able to solve my computer problems with any number of solutions. He suggested the possibility of a new power supply, but based on the age of my dead machine, counseled me that buying a new machine would be a better investment. He offered to move the data and files I had on my old hard drive to the new computer, an external hard drive or another computer in the house. He was patient enough to review these options with my husband, too, in a separate phone call. I opted to wait for a data transfer to the new computer, but then changed my mind. Scott was very agreeable to whatever I decided to do. We settled on transferring the data to the external hard drive. He was very flexible with my schedule and we were able to make an appointment in just a few days. He transferred the data in less than an hour. Scott is a very knowledgeable computer professional. We had a nice chat while he was here working and I felt comfortable that he knew what he was doing. My two favorite things about him are that he took the time to talk to my elderly neighbor about wikipedia.com and that he sent me about 6 business cards in the mail after realizing he had none in his wallet to give me.
Description of Work: Scott moved the contents of my hard drive to our external hard drive in anticipation of getting a new computer.

 + -1 moreI was impressed with Scott's responsiveness, knowledge and professionalism. He is able to explain PC problems in layman's terms and outlines possible solutions, with their respective costs. I would use ARX again and recommend Scott highly.
Description of Work: I was having problems with my laptop locking up and not connecting to the internet via WiFi. Because I had used ARX before I called Scott. He talked me through what was probably wrong with my PC and what I could do to get connected immediately. He was responsive, knowledgeable and professional. Scott did not charge me for the phone consultation because I was an established client, even though I offered to pay.

 + -1 moreTed was right on time, and went to work right away. He was willing to answer questions that I had, and explained why he was removing some of the programs that I felt were useful. I considered that an education since I am quite clueless about the internal workings of a PC. He was willling to engage in discussion and at times gave me options in choosing between keeping programs that were performing similar functions. The machines run a lot better now. There were a list of questions that I had written down, that I would liked to have answered, but time got away.
Description of Work: The technician installed additional memory chips and cleaned up 2 computers, a laptop and a desktop model. Both machines were running slow, The desktop had frozen.and was unusable. The laptop was not so bad. There were some unnecessary programs, and there were some programs from different companies that essentially did the same thing. He cleaned up duplicates and other unnecessary programs that were not doing anything constructive, just using up resources. The desktop was a little bigger problem. It took a while for one or two of the larger "security" programs to be uninstalled. He replaced those with a free program that, he claims, provided as good, if not superior. protection.

 + -1 moreOverall, I thought it went very well. I took the PC to Scott on a Wednesday and picked it up seven days later. I would suggest that Scott provide a periodic update, perhaps every three days to the customer as to the status and projected finish date for in-house repairs. I think that would be a good business practice to establish. We do miss our computers when we don't have them.
Description of Work: I had a very slow PC - HP Vectra about nine years old and Scott did an excellent job of speeding up the response time by replacing/increasing my memory as well as other items of interest.

 + -1 moreI started having trouble with my computer almost two months ago...it wouldn't load web pages correctly, (or sometimes at all), pages would shut down for no reason, then the desktop kept reloading and finally I couldn't get any desktop icons to load at all. I had tried everything I could think of to get my computer back to normal from updating my anti-virus software and running virus scans, downloading spyware detection and removal tools, etc, etc. Nothing worked. I called Scott, left a voicemail message and he called me back immediately. Ted was at our house the next day performing the services described above. He was very professional and thorough. I would highly recommend Ted and Scott to anyone experiencing computer difficulties or who would like suggestions how to optimize the usage of their computer.
Description of Work: Ted saved my computer from completely crashing. He explained there are better anti-virus programs around, removed my current anti-virus software and installed a new a-v software. He installed and ran a malware removal software which removed around 100 viruses! He explained the importance of backing up the information on my computer on a regular basis as well as offering the online back-up service ARX provides. He also gave suggestions on how to maintain the computer on a weekly and monthly basis. Ted answered all of our questions and was a wealth of information regarding websites and even how we can optimize our browser!

 + -1 moreScott is absolutely great. He was very honest, explained my machine and software were old and fragile. He cleaned up the software and checked it for viruses, and told me it would not be wise to reinstall the software or invest additional time and money in such an old device. He did get it up and working so I can use it to finish up some projects before I purchase the new machine. He made it clear that it could still freeze up, and all I could do was simply reboot it a couple of times. He was thorough and professional. Scott, many, many thanks.
Description of Work: My old Dell computer with Windows ME was frozen and nonresponsive despite numerous reboots. Scott checked it thoroughly, and stripped out old antivirus programs and other items that were unnecessary. My machine and software, old as it is, can still be used for word processing for at least the time being.

 + -1 moreMy laptop crashed, and I tried everything I know to bring it back to life. I emailed him for an appointment. He was out of town and offered the expertise of a colleague. I chose to wait for Scott to return. At the appointed time, I dropped my equipment off for him to work on. Upon inspection, he pleasantly informed me my hard drive needed replacing and made sure I was aware of all costs involved, and that I may want to purchase new instead of letting him fix it. I chose to let him fix my machine, and I am entering my report on it! He also told me I could call him if I had any further questions or concerns, which is important to me because other than using the computer, I am pretty clueless about the workings. Thank you Scott!

 + -1 moreOur wireless network was down, it took forever for pages to load, we had printing problems and sometimes the screen froze. I had used other big box stores for repairs and was not satisfied. After checking Angie's, I called Scott-he came right out and fixed all the problems, explaining to me what he was doing and what I could do in the future to fix it myself. He also made recommendations for when we decided to upgrade our printer. Another time he was able to simply talk me thru a problem over the phone.
Description of Work: I am not very computer savvy and our wireless network is very tempermental. We had several problems that Scott came out and fixed.

He believes in affordable solutions that work over expensive solutions. He does not over-prescribe services and needs. He is professional, down-to-earth, responsive and respectful. He makes excellent recommendations and offers free advice to his clients. He is very service oriented and I have complete trust in his judgment and abilities.
Description of Work: Installed new out-board hard drive, backup software, new DVD write drive, additional RAM and performed performance diagnostics that including removing conflicting and memory hogging non-essential software. He also checked out our internet performance and wireless security.
