Our heat went out on a very cold night. We tried 4 different heating companies, including a casual friend. Doornbos actually answered their phone personally and came out to our house late in the evening. The repair man was knowledgeable and professional. The repair was more expensive than I would have liked but we were in no position to argue. His repair was done quickly and we have had no problems since. I would use them again.

The service calls are always non eventful. You schedule a time that works for you. The morning of service, the Doornbos office calls to tell you what time the technician will be at your home and they are always there right on time. If they are servicing someone before you and have more problems than they anticipated and run late, they will call to say they will be late or ask if you want to reschedule. I think that happened once in all these years. They are very thorough with the cleaning and inspecting of the systems.

About 10-15 minutes into the starting the job the tech informed me that he could not remove the center burner but would continue to try to remove it. This is about the point where he informed me my furnace was dead and to continue to operate it would be dangerous. I received the whole doom and gloom about houses blowing up, glad that I don't watch the news and the like and was subsequently red tagged. He was very eager to have someone come out that evening for an estimate but I informed him that I would like to do my research. Anyways, before Doornbos came that evening I had heat; they left without completing the cleaning, red tagged my furnace, and charged me 150.00 bucks for it. That night my pet and I slept without heat. The next morning I removed the center burner (the burner the tech could not remove) and cleaned it out along with the center combustion chamber using a shop vac; essentially finishing the job that Doornbos started. My furnace is now back up and working just fine. Also, the tech was clearly a stronger guy than me so for him not to be able to remove the burner was interesting. I really wanted to use these guys again when I would get a new furnace/ac but that would depend on how they handle this situation. It's such shame too, I picked specifically because they are local and union. Well that's about the size of it...in a word, "unimpressive". I haven't completely ruled out using them again. I suspect they're good at what they do, it's just sales job for a new furnace that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Although Doornbos did not install this furnace, they are the ones we always call for service. Very satisfied with the work that Bob did today. He was professional and cleaned up after the job was finished.

Excellent sales and service. My furnace was down for 4 days. Initially I had made an appointment for Thursday but realized with dropping temperatures I wanted it sooner. The office was able to get Glen out the next day on Wednesday. Purchasing a new furnace is a big investment and there a so many choices. Glen was a super salesman explaining all my options thoroughly. Doornbos was my 3rd estimate and when I compared them all I choose this company based on the product the offered for the price. It was not the lowest estimate but they offered more for the money I was willing to spend. They made space for me in their schedule and were able to install the unit the next day. Nick the installer arrived early was very cordial. He worked efficiently by himself. He is an experienced union technician with a NATE certification. When install was complete he reviewed everything he had done and gave me additional tips for furnace efficiency. Overall the experience was very good.

My furnace would not turn on.I called Doornbos. One of their technicians came out the same day. I have heat again.

From start to finish everything went great, I stopped by their office and told pam my air con. stopped working (it was 95 degrees out) she had chuck the sales rep come out and go thru all my options from fixing my 20 year old system or replacing it. I decided to replace it, the next day they sent out three guys Aaron Vince and Jamien it must have been their A team because I can't imagine having a better crew everything went perfect. Also I didn't go into this blind last may I had three different company's give me estimates , I new it was just a matter of time before my system failed.

It went fine. As a matter of fact, we had called two other companies out before and we weren't satisfied on what they did. The Doornbos did an excellent job. They explained to me what they were doing. The air conditioning has work perfect ever since they've been here. They did a test that no one else did. They're very professional.

Jalyn (I think that's his name ) and the installation crew, came on time, looked over the project and was able to remove the old HVAC system and installed the new unit, new thermostat, and humidifying unit within 8 hours. Their sheet metal work with the flu and connections to the duct work was very professional. After their installation, they went over general usage of the new thermostat, general maintenance on the humidifier and how to protect the compressor through the changing of the seasons. Their finished work was very clean and professionally done. Their whole team was very courteous and professional. I'd definitely recommend them to my family and friends.

I had used them before, they are a fine service. They cdme out and did a good job. I have never had any problems with them. They called me after the installation to make sure everything was working properly.

Everything went well. The serviceman was very organized and efficient. Everything works great. Very good price for what I got.

I thought the price was right for a new central air, water heater, and furnace for a condo. There were 2 guys and they showed up on time as promised. I thought they did a great job. They cleaned up when they were done too. I've had Doornbos before and I was pleased with them then too.

We decided to go with Doornbos without getting another estimate. The price was fair, the work guaranteed, the products solid, and it's a union shop. On installation day the guys showed up right on time, and worked through the hot sweaty day to get the work done. They anticipated questions, answering them before we thought to ask, and were neat as pins -- you'd never know they were there except for the beautiful new equipment they installed. I would highly recommend this company to any of my neighbors.

Our very old boiler broke down. Doornbos was able to accomodate us quickly to replace the old unit. The experience was good and there were no surprises. The workers were on time, worked in a professional manner and were very polite. Chuck stopped by during the installation process to make sure everthing was going ok. Also, the price came in as quoted. We received follow-up calls to make sure everything was functioning properly after the installation was completed. We were very pleased with the experience overall.

Chuck Haas came to the house to discuss the changes we needed and estimate he job. He spent a long time explaining and discussing options with us. He made some suggestions, but did not push expensive add-ons. After getting other estimates we decided to go with Doorbos to do the work. The crew arrived when they said they would, worked efficiently, and finished in one and a half days. They coordinated with the builder who was working on the second floor and came back to finish the duct work up there at the proper time. Chuck came in one day to check on things and worked on the new duct work on the second floor. Since the work was done in the winter they returned in late spring to check and finalize the settings on the central air.i

Everything was great. This is the second time I have used Doornbos and both times I was able to get an appointment quickly. The gentleman arrived on time, worked on the boiler and left within a reasonable amount of time. Would hire again.

Called Doorbos when heat went out. Came out right away when promised. Had furnace working in short order. While doing the repair they noticed another issue which would have caused a future failure. Fortunately, the furnace was still under warranty and they ordered the necessary part, handled the warranty claim and returned when scheduled to replace the defective part. Very pleased with service and the professiionalism. The are punctual, leave the work area clean and stand by their work.

I have used Doornbos for more than forty (40) years. However, I will never use them again. I don't know if writing about my experience on Angie's list will help others avoid the costs and personal pain and suffering I have had to endure as a result of their negligence. Doornbos was referred to us by my husband, Frederick. Frederick grew up in Chicago and had worked with with knew the company's founders. However, the professional conduct of those individuals that currently run the company that have the family name, as my husband put it, are nothing like the founders of the company. On July 14, 2012, my daughter and I heard a loud sound coming from the furnace. The Central Air Conditioning Unit's Motor is located in the furnace. When my daughter touched her hand to the pipes leading up to the house, the pipes were hot. Since it was relatively cool outside, she shut the AC off and contacted Doornbos Heating and Air Conditioning. I had the Unit serviced at the beginning of the Summer, 2012 as well as Summer, 2011. In Summer, 2011, the tech stated that the filter needed to be changed and the unit cleaned. The guidance he provided to us was to make sure that the unit was kept clean and that the compressor was hosed down with cool water to cool the unit off in hotter weather. In Summer, 2012, the Tech changed the filter and cleaned the unit and noted no major problems. On July 14, 2012, the Tech assessed the unit and informed us that we would need a new central air conditioning unit. The only issue noted was that the unit was allegedly 'over-amping.' Although it was an older unit, I had no problems with it and would have preferred an American Standard for the new unit as opposed to another unit. I was informed that American Standard no longer manufactured Central Air Units and, that if I wasn't going to purchase the $3,500 unit they recommended to me, that the next thing was the unit that cost $1850. They also stated that they had none in their store in Alsip, Illinois. During this entire time, no tech bothered to check the unit in the furnace and to confirm whether or not the motor or the capacitor was working properly. Since I am a senior citizen and my daughter wasn't working, they agreed to accept four (4) post-dated checks from me. I made a $300 downpayment which cleared the bank. On July 16, the same issue started again. The furnace pipes were hot and their was a loud, ringing noise coming from the motor housing inside the furnace which circulated the AC throughout the house. We shut off the Air and made another call to Doornbos. The tech showed-up and, upon examining the housing, determined that the issue was the motor. He said he was unable to get the motor out of the housing and took it into the shop. We were told that the motor would be repaired and replaced that evening. Please note that this was one of the hottest days and nights of the year. It was suggested to us that since the furnace was 16 years old anyway, why don't we just buy another new furnace from Doornbos? After all, now is the time. Once peak season starts the prices go sky high. We were also asked whether we had another place to stay for the night. We told the tech that we did not. My daughter said later "Sure, we own a Downton Abbey right down the street, complete with servants and a full night staff!" "Who do they think they are kidding?" We are not wealthy people, but what we have we worked hard for and work hard to keep and maintain. It is also important to note that there are no cooling centers in the suburbs. There are also no cooling centers that are pet friendly. I have three Siberian Huskies and they really suffered in the heat -- That night, we slept on cooling pads on our deck above our backyard. Later, we would have to visit doctors, receive treatment and take our dogs to the vet to be treated for heat-related illnesses. On the following day, July 17, 2012, Chuck Doornbos, a relative and sales manager shows-up at my home. My daughter was completing paperwork for her new job. Chuck told us that we should expect to spend $6,250 for a new furnace and that he would discount the price $250 if we paid cash and obtained a loan that day from a bank. I informed him no that something else needed to be done. I contacted the office and, after having to argue with the company gatekeeper, Pam, we were finally allowed to speak with another Doornbos. We were told that a new motor would cost $650. I was told by an investigator later that had several matters pending with Doornbos that we were overcharged. The range should have been between $275-$400 dollars. Again, we were taken. My daughter was very upset. This was the last money she had in the bank and it brought her balance to $20 in her account. We were also informed by Doornbos that the cost would be $610 two days AFTER on July 19, 2012. My daughter told them that they should apply the $40 to the balance owed. It is important to note that the investigator I engaged to review this entire matter performed their services as a professional courtesy to me as a senior citizen. The investigation was intended for information regarding the installation and costs related to the AC Unit and the Motor. Doornbos did not honor the agreement they had with me. They put through all four (4) checks which were post-dated before the dates they were due and before the dates they were supposed to be deposited. The rationale I was given was that they "needed to close their month" by Pamela. I was also disappointed that another relative, whom our investigation revealed is a student in Champaign, Illinois, is allegedly the PR person and sent me in early August a card introducing herself as a business liasion PR manager and "Thanked us for our business." When I tried to contact her about this matter, I was again told by Pam that she was 'unavailable.' Pam argued with me and stated that they were right and I was wrong about everything -- well, I think that I only needed a motor, and that replacement of the AC unit could have waited. We run our AC responsibly and efficiently. American Standard is a reputable company. I believe that Doornbos only wanted the fee for the unit and cared little for how our family would meet the expense as long as they got (over)-paid. No tech ever bothered to check the motor, when the new unit was installed, anything. Since the checks were deposited too soon, as I am a senior citizen and entirely dependent on social security, they were returned. As a result, Doornbos hired an attorney that wrote me a threatening letter telling me that if I didn't pay in full in thirty days (on or before October 5, 2012) that Doornbos instructed him to charge me triple the amount or $1,500 for each check. I did not receive a bill or statement from Doornbos the company office about this until last week. However, there are costs for which Doornbos owes me, which are healthcare expenses for my husband and I, veterinary bills and healthcare bills for my daughter. We have healthcare needs and the lack of AC exacerbated medical conditions. In addition, there was also the opportunity cost for lost enjoyment of our home, which has not been included in the fee I stated above. The fee includes all costs -- Doornbos the actual cost of the unit and Motor, for which I was overcharged tremendously, and the healthcare costs. These people are not professionals -- they are greedy and are using their business as nothing more than a cash cow for greedy family members. Several professionals that act as expert witnesses that are familiar with many companies have said that Doornbos is not the company it used to be -- they do not have continuing education or training for their techs, to keep-up with new technology or advances in technology and that they over-charge and are less than professional. One has to wonder if the reviews received on Angie's list that are positive if they are all family members making them or are related -- how would Angie's list really know? It wouldn't. Information can be discovered as well as hidden or masked on the internet. I am stating the facts to the best of my knowledge and would appreciate it if Angie's list would get involved as this matter is not in litigation yet. I am contemplating my next steps and would appreciate Angie's list becoming involved.

I've been with them for 10 years now and they come here twice a year for maintenance of my A/C and furnace. I never had anything but good experience with them.

Our furnace and A/C were both nearing 20 years old and needed servicing at least once a year. On separate occasions, Doornbos service people advised us that we should probably replace the system and upgrade to energy-efficient rather than spending money on servicing old, nearly dead appliances. They gave us great recommendations for replacement, and helped us get tax credits and rebates from the utilities. The work was done on the day scheduled, cleaned up (they even took away an old water heater for us) and the service professionals were always very pleasant. The back office was also prompt and pleasant when we called with questions. Highly recommend this company.

Found Doornbos on Angie's list and checked out reviews. I called around 8 a.m., they said someone could come out same day between 12-4. I got call around 11 to see if I was available if they came out a little earlier - great. It would be nice if they could narrow the time frame a bit. I am glad they could schedule me the same day. When the technician arrived, he had me turn on the air by lowering the thermostat. He immediately checked out the equipment that was not turning on (compressor/fan) and said there was no power going to the unit. He looked at thermostat himself as well. He then went to the furnace/blower unit and I followed. He removed an access panel and inquired if someone had been recently been doing work on my equipment. Using a screwdriver he attached loose wires to a control panel and said the wire that is needed to send power to the non-working fan/compressor unit outside had been disconnected and said he was pretty sure that it would now work. Yes, after that it did work. He checked the freon, it was fine. It is working!!Apparently when I had the furnace cleaned in December, the wires were not re-connected. That was someone else. I am out money, for no good reason - but at least my AC is working, and I am thankful.The technician was professional, knowledgeable, focused on his work and quickly identified and resolved the problem - and left. He also explained how the disconnected wires relate to the AC/Heat. He did not remove his shoes, to walk on carpet, it was really just a few steps, but that would have been a plus. I will definitely contact this company again as needed. Thank you.

They were all very very professional. They were very thorough and gave us a lot of info. We just found someone else that was cheaper.

I had an estimate done by Glenn, the salesman. He was my third estimate received. He was prompt and even called the day before reminding of the appointment. He was the only person that actually did a calculation based on the size of my home. My home is a small duplex at about 760 sq feet. The other two salesmen gave me the exact same size units but I believe they would have been over-sized. They just gave a general size and did not think about the smaller size of the home. The furnace would have been over-sized by almost double. Glenn was very easy to talk to and answered all my questions. Even when I called back to accept his estimate and asked to see some units and talk some more he met me at the shop to show me around. Upon talking with him I learned that they do their own custom metal work, if needed for as their guys are union sheet metal. I could certainly appreciate that fact for as I worked for a bit in a union sheet metal shop before. Also, all the products I bought were made in the USA. You do not see that very much anymore. That is another reason I went with them. The day the crew arrived they were prompt. At first they kind of joked a bit about the kind of home it is since they have worked this area before and it can be quite a challenge to work with. But they took everything apart, laid out the tarps in the walkways and dealt with the dogs I have and started their day. I am the kind of person to ask lots of questions, some that do not even pertain to the job at hand, and they answered all of them without getting crabby. The names were Jaime and Nick, I believe. Great, trustworthy guys. Nick took care of the furnace and Jaime did the AC. The like to ride each other with quips and insults that would fit in with any southside bar and me being from the southside I can definitely relate. Jaime ran a solid line of copper from the AC to the A-coil, minus the connections to both. He stated that the old AC line was made up of 3 different sizes of copper. After they installed everything and verified everything was working they did a run-down of the project and went over the new thermostat with me. This business and the installers were all very professional. I would definitely do business with them again as well as recommend them.
