John the technician was knowledgeable, polite and got the job done. He answered all of my questions and made sure I understood what was wrong and what had to be done to repair it.
Description of Work: They repaired a 7 year old dryer that was noisy. They replaced the rollers. They also tuned up the gas stove, as it hadn't been looked at in 11 years.

The jobs went splendidly. John, the technician, knew exactly what to do and went to work on the refrigerator. He had it fixed in about an hour. As he was finishing, John offered to inspect our dryer vent for free. Well, it turns out that the vent was completely plugged with years of accumulated g***. ( We bought the house in 2011, and this was an existing condition that we didn't know about.) John went to work, did what he could on Friday, and returned on July 15 to complete the job -- it was a long run and he needed an additional tool. Overall we were impressed with the professionalism, the "can dl" attitude, and the conscientious service. Cody's may not be the cheapest in Boise, but they show up on time, know their stuff and stand behind their work.

C'd after hours on one evening and repairman was there next morning. Diagnosed problem to be with a fan motor and replaced it. Also ran a pressure check on freon charge which was found to be ok. Unit was down less than 24 hrs from time we called. I consider this excellent service.

After Cody's service call and repair - when I had the time to do my due-diligence, I researched local area appliance repair companies and soon discovered that I had way-overpaid for the part/service I received. Therefore, I would NOT recommend CODY'S APPLIANCE REPAIR due to HIGH PRICES! My washing machine was acting up and finally stopped spinning and agitating altogether. We needed a quick diagnosis and repair to get up and running again, so I purchased a membership to Angie's List, trusting that the ratings list would lead me to the top local appliance repair companies; one that would provide honest and reliable service, with fair and reasonable rates, in-line with ALL competitors in this locale. After the washer was repaired, in 30-minutes or less, and after I had paid over $250 for a relatively inexpensive part and service call of 30-minutes or less to replace the part, I was able to take the time and do my due-diligence research. Interestingly, this company appears to have transferred its California service prices to Idaho, which does not fairly represent cost-of-living adjustment and cost-of-service pricing to the consumer. The technician stated that Cody's does not price their service based on time, but rather its pricing is based on some "by-the-job," methodology. Not an unreasonable method, IF the pricing is structured based on actual 'local' cost-of-living, cost-to-do-business costs AND, based on ALL competitor's pricing. Certainly, this was not the case with Cody's. Essentially, I paid $200.00 for a 30-MINUTE REPAIR! That comes to $400.00 PER HOUR! MY LOCAL IDAHO PHYSICIANS AND LAWYERS DON'T EVEN COME NEAR THESE KINDS OF RATES! Fortunately, after researching, I was able to find a DIFFERENT LOCAL APPLIANCE REPAIR COMPANY FOR ALL FUTURE REPAIRS - one that offers FAST, HONEST, QUALITY service at FAIR and REASONABLE PRICES - PRICES BASED ON CURRENT LOCAL 'TRUE' COST-TO-DO-BUSINESS/COST-OF-LIVING COSTS AND, BELOW ALL OR MOST OTHER LOCAL COMPETITORS' PRICES! For example, yesterday (6/29/2013), I had my 12-15 year-old GE PROFILE side-by-side refrigerator/freezer's COMPRESSOR REPLACED, WITH A NEW, TOP-OF-THE-LINE, COMPRESSOR. The service was IMPECCABLE, the WARRANTY - VERY REASONABLE, THE SERVICE INCLUDED PICK-UP AND DELIVERY/SET-UP, AND ALL WORK COMPLETED (FROM PICK-UP TO DELIVERY AND SET-UP - INCLUDING REPLACEMENT OF AN OLD 'PLASTIC' ICE-MAKER HOSE WITH A NEW STAINLESS STEEL/RUBBER HOSE - WITHIN 24-HOURS - - - AMAZINGLY, THIS ALSO INCLUDED, HAD I REQUIRED IT, STORAGE OF ALL MY FREEZER CONTENTS - - - AND ALL OF THIS FOR ONLY $349.00!!!!

Your appliance, I am sorry to say, had failed again with an unrelated problem, after your initial repair. We came back to your home for free and diagnosed the second failure and you opted not to repair. That must have been frustrating for you. I know you had tried to repair it yourself and had called us out when the part you bought did not do the trick. It is my passion and my pride to have a company that I am proud of. I also want to say that there is so much that is not fully represented in your review -- and I will not go fully into detail, certainly, but I feel I must respond to a few of your remarks. As there is ALWAYS two sides to every story, I want to thank AL for giving me the opportunity to voice my concerns. I want to say that I am proud of my company and the people that work for me. I insist upon integrity and honesty above all things. My employees are drug, alcohol, background checked, licensed, insured, and well trained. Your repairs also have a 1-year parts-and-labor warranty. We are not just some guy with a wrench coming into your home. I feel that often you get what you pay for. That being said, our company uses a published, standardized computerized pricing program for our repair estimates. We did not design it, but it IS adjusted for the Pacific Northwest area, and our city, specifically, to be competitive. However, I was BORN in California, but that does not mean that my former zip code has anything to do with my pricing. And I personally take offense at the references you have made to this effect. It is hoped that AL members give reviews based upon the FACTS as they have occurred, not where you are from, and upon what another companies charge for what they do, as we are not talking about apples and apples. We are discussing my company and other unknown companies. There are many levels of quality and experience in your choices for repair companies in our valley. You have to look closely at what they offer, what they can do, and what they WILL do to stand behind their work. I sleep well knowing that we do our very best each day for every customer. And I agonize over every unhappy customer. I will also say that your glowing review of this other company, troubles me greatly. I have owned this repair company for 24 years, and I will tell you that NO company should EVER take your appliances our of your home to make a repair. Especially your refrigerator. A well-equipped company brings everything they need to do it right there in your home. "Top-of-the-line" compressor? This part is brand and model specific to your appliance. How can you be certain it is a new part or just pulled out of an old fridge in their "shop?" You do not. Your appliance was out of your sight and out of your control. I wish that you would have called and we could have had a discussion about your experience prior to your review. I would have been happy to share information about our pricing and where it comes from, our warranty, and the fact that, yes, I was born in California, if that is important to you. I am happy to speak to you anytime and I hope that one day you might have a better opinion about our company and your experience, in general I wish you great good luck with your repair experiences in the future.

I had three large appliances with problems. A 20 year old refrigerator ice maker, a 15 year old washer and dryer. In each case he told me exactly what was wrong quickly and gave me various options for fixing and/or temporary fixes, and the cost of each option. Ultimately I choose to get a new washer and dryer, but I would definitely use them again because of the details of various options and upfront cost estimates.

Found two leaks in about 30 minutes. Bid came in at $280 to replace a leaking drain hose. Ian asked for $120 today: $89 for today's service, and a $30 deposit on the part. And $180 due when repair was completed. I asked for the part number which he said they don't give out, however he did give it to me after I protested. The part number turned out to be wrong. I called Major Appliance Repair Service (208-573-0196), Chris looked up the part number, the part turned out to be $47 and their charge to repair it a flat rate of $89.00. If I had called them first, I would have only paid $136 total for the diagnosis and repair. It's still cheaper for me to have Major Appliance Repair Service do the work, even after paying the additional service call fee. All I can say is that Cody's seems to have a very healthy profit margin at the consumers expense.

Dear Member, I am so sorry to hear that you did not find our services satisfactory. I understand that our pricing of the repair exceeded what you thought a good value. Yes, you WILL find other companies out there who can and will do repairs more cheaply than we. That is a given in any business. As to the other company, I cannot say what their expertise is with your brand or the repairs that need to be made. I do know that your LG dishwasher is an upper-end, Korean-made product and MARS is not factory-authorized to service their products. We are LG's factory service representative and have access to information and training that non-warranty companies do not. Your unit needed to be uninstalled to complete the repair. There is always the possibility of leakage or damage occurring during or after a repair is made. This drain hose is made by someone other than us, probably in Taiwan or Mexico. We test our repairs, certainly, but who knows what can happen in a day, week, or a month after a repair is completed! That is where we stand out. We STAND by our repairs. We warrant our repairs for one year, for the parts AND labor. I cannot say about our competitor. At Cody's, we carry full replacement insurance for our repairs. Our technicians are drug, background, and alcohol screened for your protection. The competitor, I do not know. This information may or may not be helpful in your decision making, and I agonize when a customer is not happy with what we do. Please accept my most humble apologies that you were inconvenienced and felt that you needed to shop around for a better deal. That is not what we are about. I hope all your repairs happen smoothly and seamlessly. Our very best to you and we hope that someday you give us another try.

The Technician, John, arrived on time, (actually a bit early) and went right to work. He was knowledgeable, and at all times very professional and courteous. He knew exactly what to do, and did it skillfully, always keeping me in the loop regarding his actions. When he was finished, he was a great resource for some other questions I had. He did a visual on my other appliances, gave me some helpful tips regarding their operation, and checked out all operations on my stove, not just the issue he repaired. I will definately use Cody's Repair again and let other know about them.

The dryer has not had any further issues since the repairman was here. He gave me some good information regarding dryers in general and said to call if there were any other questions or concerns I has.
Description of Work: Dryer appeared to be overheating and then shutting off before clothes were dry. Technician went through a series of test to eleminate possible causes for the reported problem. After exhausting all the possibilities the most likely causes was an aging motor on an older dryer that was nearing its life cycle.

Great!!! Having a fridge which does not cool is not fun! We had food in the garage freezer, the mini fridge and 3 coolers, so we needed help FAST. After a call, they sent out help within hours!
Description of Work: John tested our refer and found a burnt out starter. He checked out compressor and fluids for leaks. While here on the call, he checked our dryer vent and washer and dryer. The washer needed a small part so he fixed that, avoiding another dead appliance. At the end the compressor went out and we had to choose a new fridge to replace it. But that was not his fault and we were satisfied with the bill which included 10% senior discount and his friendliness and helpfulness. We will have Cody's again!

My experience with Cody's was very satisfactory and I would hire them again for appliance repair.

I called to schedule appt. on Martin Luther King Day, had a very pleasant exchange with scheduler, was told that Brandon would be available between 2 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the next day, he would call before coming. Brandon called at 1:30 to confirm we were home and arrived shortly thereafter. Our original work order included inspecting a non-functioning micro-wave, lower oven and 2 under-performing dishwashers. After examining the microwave, Brandon suggested replacing, our model was manufactured in 2004, would cost almost as much to repair as replace and given the way the microwave had been installed into the cabinetary (staples) he could not remove fully. Brandon found the lower oven to be operating even though previous owner and home inspector had indicated it was not in our home inspection. Both dishwashers were inspected and issue was determined to be brand of dishwasher detergent, rinse agent and temperature of water. Brandon checked our clothes dryer vent at his suggestion, free of charge. Total appointment as approximately 80 minutes. Brandon was very professional and personable through-out the service call.

We called COdy's Appliance and they sent a service technician out right away. He diagnosed the prolem, provided infromation abou the cost and process to have it repaired and ordered the part before leaving our home. It took just over a week to get the part and have it installed. The final cost was the same as the original estimate. We were very pleased with the prompt and professional service that we received.

Dear Member, thank you for reviewing your experience with our company. I can see by your review that the overall feeling was that we did a good job, in your estimation. Price, however, looks to have been a concern, by the C grade, which I assume affects your happiness, giving your overall grade of a B for your experience with us. I am thinking that the parts were expensive for this repair. Control boards have become extremely expensive to purchase from the manufacturer. When the economy collapsed, appliance manufacturers cut part production, which causes an increase in part production costs. I apologize for that, and it is as frustrating for you as it is for us, but I have no control over what the manufacturer charges us for the parts, which, in turn, is passed on to the consumer. I have told many customers over the years that I wish I had elves in our basement turning our parts for us, but as I am pretty much stuck with what I can buy. We do, however, give a one-year warranty for the parts and labor for the repair. The manufacturer will give you 90 day's warranty on the part only. Our company gives you the additional 9 months. I hope that takes a bit of the sting away! :) Again, many thanks for the review of our company.

They came out the next day and the repairman took a look at the oven. He reported that the circuit panel in the wall oven had failed and that he could order a new one for approximately $500. He was professional and courteous, and we felt he did a great job. We decided int he end to replace the entire oven and get a warranty, so we did not use them for repairs. If we had decided to repair the oven, we would have definitely used them.

Washing machine had a leak. After inspecting the unit and running it through a few cycles, we were told it would be more expensive to repair the unit than buy a new one. We were charged the minimum charge for the service person to just come out to the house. Happy with the honesty.
Description of Work: Service person gave us a consultation basically.

I picked this company based on the reviews here on Angie's list. The tech was on time, professional, and friendly. He answered my questions, and discovered that the timer on the dryer was not broken. I paid the service fee because no repairs were performed. However some of the information he passed along to me regarding the dryer vent and a microwave problem made up for that service fee. I appreciated the honesty of the tech. I will use this company again.
Description of Work: I was having issues with the dryer timer.

I called the day before the repair, they came promptly the next morning, made the repair to correct the problem and had things back in working order within an hour with a new switch ( they had the right part in their truck) and all parties were happy.
Description of Work: Cody's technician replaced a heat control switch on a Frigidaire electric glass top stove.

I was having the old debate - fix it or repair it. Well I wanted to replace it but its not a good time for the cash outlay. So I when to Angies' list and found Cody's repair. Asked the person picking up the phone what I should do. She told me the minimum charge to come out to check it out is $75. $75 is about 15% of the cost of a new dishwasher so I asked for a repair man to come over. I was able to get an appointment the following weekday - I liked that. They gave me a two hour window for the arrival of the repairman and he arrived within in that window - I like that. The repairman's name was Ian (spelling may not be correct). Ian was a quiet guy that went straight to work - I like that. I thought Ian was determining what was wrong with the appliance and that he would report back to me regarding whether or not it's worth repairing. To my surprise, the next thing he said to me was that he got it working again and that my charge was $130. He also told me that I realistically had two more years left on the appliance. So basically I bought two more years of dishwasher for $130, 25% cost of a new dishwasher. In the end, I was ok with that. But next time, I'd like Cody's to stop and talk to me before going on beyond the minimal $75 fee to do the cost/benefit analysis. All in all, I had a very favorable experience with Cody's and Ian, Cody's repairman. I highly recommend them both. Update: Ian did in fact call me back and told me that he like to refund some of the payment. Wow!!! I, of course, can't recommend Cody's and Ian more. Change my grade to all 'A's.
Description of Work: I had a 15 year old dishwasher which was no longer cleaning dishes. It appeared that the water pressure coming out of its nozzles was severely diminished.

That said, Ian should have immediately stopped and had a conversations with you. No excuses on our part, but Ian is somewhat new to our company and is learning to do things "The Cody's Way." He is a first-rate, experienced technician, and he immediately understood that he was in the wrong. I had him call you right away, and we have adjusted your bill to reflect the fact that we absolutely, 100% give an estimate before any repair is made. Our apologies and we hope that you will give us the chance to earn your business.

When we called they were able to get to us on the next business day. We were very impressed with their service and willingness to help us understand how to take better care of our products.
Description of Work: They repaired my front loading dryer. They thoroughly cleaned it and showed us how to do a deep clean ourselves and then gave us advice for keeping our washer in good shape also. Very friendly, I felt that my money was well spent.
