Ian and Shane arrived promptly and repaired the refrigerator quickly. They cleaned after themselves as they worked and when completed, made sure the refrigerator was functioning properly. They answered all my questions and were very courteous and professional. I will definitely use them again and will refer all of the association members to them as well. Great job Ian!!

Great Customer Service! Above & Beyond! Our Bosch Dishwasher was not draining. Called Cody?s to come out and take a look. They promptly scheduled me for the following day within a 3hr window. Ensuring that I will be called by technician when he was on his way. John called when he was 15 min out. He was very prompt. John is very professional, polite, friendly & courteous. He immediately went to work to look at the problem. Sure enough, he was able to locate the problem. It was a burned out motherboard. Specifically, the function for draining. John remembered that there was a recall on Bosch dishwasher motherboards. John looked at our manufacture number and production date and informed us that this dishwasher was part of a Bosch recall due to this very problem. The new motherboard would be covered from the manufacture! He went to work and made the phone calls necessary to get the part asap. The only amount paid was $89 for the service call! John was back within a couple of days with the new part. He arrived again very promptly. We were his 1st stop of the day & he replaced the part. After John left, I loaded up the dishwasher and started it while I ran an errand. I got back after approx an hr and notice my dishwasher was done. I opened it & saw that it did not drain again! I immediately called John & left a brief message. Within 10 min his office called back & got my info on problem and told me that John will be back that afternoon. While I was waiting I entered my upstairs bathroom and turned on the light. The light did not come on & I then figured out that the circuit broke! Just as I figured it out John was at my door. I was very apologetic and explained that I did not look to see if the circut broke because everything else in my kitchen was on (N. End Home) He was so friendly & told me it was no problem & he still wanted to make sure everything was OK. I reccomend Cody?s to everyone! If you live in the N. End of Boise John will go the extra distance to make sure you are taken care of!- See more at: http://codysappliancerepair.com/blog/category/testimonials/#sthash.2uVBNqNQ.dpuf Sincerely, A Customer for Life! I called Cody's Appliance the week of Sept 1 - 5. The person I spoke to said that they would have someone call me. No one called. I looked at Cody's web page today, and the first page featured a large insert that said ' Free Inspection', and the phone number was prominent. I called the number and the lady who answered, said that she had no record of any call by me from last week. I decided to start again from the beginning. I asked if they had anyone who had ever changed the bearings on a Kenmore Washer. She said that all their repair people were authorized to work on Kenmore appliances. I asked again if anyone had ever changed bearings. She didn't know. She told me that someone would come out and give me an estimate, and it would be $79. I asked her why there is a charge for that when her web site clearly said Free inspection. She said that from where she was she could not access their web site. She stated again that there would be a $79 charge for an estimate. I told her that I would like someone who had ever done a bearing job to call and give me a rough guess on how much it would cost. I didn't want to pay $79 to find out that they want $500 to to the job and I can buy a new washer for $600. She said that they didn't do that. They have high marks from people who have used them, so I don't have anything bad to say about their skill or their work. I do think that if they shout Free Inspection on their web site, and their estimates are $79 it is certainly not free, it is misleading, and in such a case a refusal of a service tech to even call and talk to me seems less than friendly.

Response from Cody’s Appliance Repair
Dear [member name removed], We are very sorry to see that you had a bad experience with contacting our company. We usually keep a thorough record of who tries to contact our office, and for that I am sorry. For the matter of our "free inspection", our website clearly states that we have a free dryer vent inspection with every service call. Our website is not misleading, and does not state that we have free inspection of any unit. We do, however, drop the service call charge if you were to go along with the repair at the time of service. Cody's Appliance also will never give an estimate over the phone because we are an honest company. We would not let our office staff diagnose or give estimates on how to fix an appliance because they are not qualified to do so. Although we would love to trust every customer and their diagnosis, we must look at the appliance in the home to get an accurate estimate. Our technicians go by a strict Blue Book system specifically made for the Treasure Valley, they alone can access them while in the field. [member name removed], you may have diagnosed that it was a specific problem, but we do not know your qualifications as a technician and therefor can not possibly give you an estimate on your assumptions. Throwing out a low ball number so that you would use our services would be dishonest and against our company's standards. Cody's Appliance Repair thanks you for your input, we will use your comments to further train our office staff on how to answer questions such as yours in the future.

Our parts turnaround time is what makes us unique. Many companies but the actual part put-ons on the back burner to take more calls. We don't do that. We purchase the part electronically minutes after the order is placed in the home and the call back to the home is a priority for us; it takes precedent over "fresh calls." I wouldn't want to wait, and neither should you! It is AL customers, like you, who take the time to post a review that help keep good little companies in business. A heartfelt thank you from us to you.

Service was great! Granted my problem was a no-brainer for the repair team and even I could have fixed the problem, there was no way I was going to mess with my major appliance. Apparently my water filter connection alignment was off. Repair team showed up at beginning of service window. Service was quick and professional. I would use Cody's Appliance Repair in the future for sure. The only thing I wasn't aware of is that if I were to use a credit card for payment, I would have been charged 3%. This may be stated somewhere related to Cody's Appliance Repair but I never saw it. Not a big deal; I cut a check and only had to pay the $79 for the service call.

Dear Member, we thank you for taking the time from your busy day to review our company. So happy it wasn't more serious and you were only charged for our standard service call charge. No labor added for the fix. And I AM also glad you didn't attempt to mess with the water filter if it was leaking or functioning improperly. We have seen the filter housing crack on occasion (manufacturing problem), and you wouldn't want to see the results of THAT! :). As to the credit card fee, my apologies, we are such a small company and not a brick-and-mortar, that the credit card companies just kill us, we would love to quit taking them, but so many of our customers like the convenience. You have made my weekend with your satisfied review,

The representative came up with three ideas to repair the damage to my stainless steel appliances. He went out of his way to refer me to companies and products that would save me the cost of replacing the stainless steel. He could have easily sold me the stainless steel skins at a mark up, but instead chose to save me money. They ordered microwave and dishwasher parts cheaper than I could at any online website. This work hasn't been completed because we are waiting on parts, but they have completed previous repairs at our home. They have always been honest, punctual, extremely professional, and performed quality work. No complaints. I trust them.

the tech diagnosed the problem to be a thermostat. He replaced the thermostat but did not have manufacturers part. He said universal one would work. It did not work. I had another company try and fix which they did at a lower cost. They replaced the thermostat that Cody's had put in. This fixed the problem. I called Cody's back to get their response which was that it was not their fault. At no time did they remotely accept that they could have put in the wrong part. The conversation was just them saying they had lots of experience and that it was not them. I have never written a review before but feel strongly that they charge too much and do not stand behind their work. My understanding is that reviews are to give people an idea of what their experience was. In that vein let the buyer beware.

Dear Member, There is so much left unsaid in this review. Respectfully, we were out to your home in January of this year for the original repair. You had a recent failure after 5 months of working just fine. You have a 1 year parts-and-labor warranty from our company for that repair. At no time did you call us to tell us of this recent failure, you called another company who did a full sealed system repair (under manufacture warranty) at that time, which, it seems, was a misdiagnosis on their part, as it did not repair the problem. When we did our repair, the replacement of the defrost bimetal (thermostat), you had a full frost pattern at that time. No sealed system issue. When they returned apparently they said the part we put in in January was the problem and they replaced it, at a cost to you. Sir, it is highly possible that the technician who did the sealed system repair misdiagnosed the failure. This we will never know. So easy for one company to blame another for their own failure. We are not there to defend ourselves. We have had no opportunity to defend our work, except under this forum and your call to our company after the fact. You are taking the word of a company who had to explain their own repair failure. If you will look online you will see that incorrectly diagnosing a sealed system failure is VERY common when it is actually the defrost bimetal or thermostat that has failed, not that it has caused a sealed system failure as this technician stated! There are many chat topics on this very issue. And as to the your claim that we used the wrong part; sir, these parts are manufactured at the same plant under the same conditions, but placed in a different stamped box. Exact. Same. Part. Same quality control, same everything. Your repair should have been free if you had given us a call and we diagnosed a bad part that we put in. I am so sorry that you paid another company for work that we would have done for free had it been the failure of the part you purchased from us 5 months ago. Yes, sir, buyer beware, certainly, but be kind and give others the opportunity to defend their work at the proper time and conditions, not after the fact and based upon the word of another and a business competitor to boot! We have done work for you many times in the past and we have performed this work honestly and ethically, and that is the way we will always do business. I hope that you can see our position in this situation. Two sides to every story, always. I am glad that you have a working appliance. I am sorry that you had to wait for sealed system parts and had a major, major repair done that looks like it was unnecessary.

My ice maker stopped working so I called Cody's. I had used them once before and they did good work?I would have given them all A's. Today the same serviceman came and found ice was stuck behind a shelf. He removed 2 cubes and charged $75. It took him less than 5 minutes. I think the charge was excessive, even though it was a "service call", and especially since I had been a customer in the past when he replaced a circuit board in the refrigerator, and I was happy to pay his price because he was professional and timely. I think today's experience was poor customer service on the company's part, and I won't use them again.

Dear Member, I am so sorry to see that you were dissatisfied with the charges for the service call and diagnosis on your refrigerator. Our charges for a service call and diagnosis are a fixed cost for every home visit. I can see how it would be frustrating to a customer to find out that it is a simple fix after we arrive. However, our service call charge is to cover all of the fixed costs to send a company out to your home. Everything from liability insurance, fuel, tech pay, background and drug checks, our office staff -- the list goes on and on. Our customers don't see the whole host of things that happen even before our technician arrives at your door. We do also try to give good value to our customers by inspecting your condenser coils on your refrigerator and dryer vent each year. As we had been to the home 6 months prior on another repair, that was not an option on this visit. I hope that my explanation takes a bit of the sting away and you consider giving us another opportunity to provide excellent service and repair.

Cody's Appliance Repair was very professional when scheduling the appointment as well as the tech that came out for the repair. John, the tech, arrived during the scheduled time, was pleasant, and professional. Our fridge was reading 36 degrees but the food near the top was 55 degrees while the bottom was about 45 degrees. I explained that from research it sounds like the fan was frozen. John was polite and explained that he didn't think that was the issue but he would keep me informed during the process. Within a few minutes, it was discovered that, indeed, the fan was encased in ice. He explained that the thermistor was reading correctly but he would replace it and that the control board was the issue. He explained that he would have to order the part and return when it arrived. He gave me an estimate of $403.92 for parts and labor. He thawed the ice so that the fan could operate and made sure that the fridge was cooling. He stated that there shouldn't be a problem between then and when he would return to repair it. I paid in full at this visit. He returned 2 weeks later and installed the new control board and left our house within 45 minutes of arriving. The fridge was cooling wonderfully. John made sure to clean up any mess he made. I asked if there was a guarantee on the work and he explained that there is a year warranty on parts and the service call. I received my receipt via email the next day and was surprised to see that the parts only cost 182.99. The service call fee was $75 which may or may not have been waived, I cannot tell according to the bill. The website's policy states that if the repair is made during the initial service call, the fee is waved. My labor bill was $209.95! He was there for an hour during the service call and less than 45 minutes during the repair call. Over $200 is outrageous for a labor bill for less than 2 hours of work total. I filled out a company survey that was provided and Scott Anderson, unknown title, replied expressing empathy about the lack of specific billing communication. He indicated that further education would take place and that they use "a nationally recognized, industry standard flat rate pricing guide." He did not offer any additional discount or resolution. As of today, I have to schedule a follow-up appointment because my fan is getting noisy again indicating that the ice is building up once more and that the control board was not the issue. Will update after the next service call. UPDATE 4/8/15: After replacing our board and sensor, the technician had to be called out a month later. At the time, I expressed my concern that the board was never the problem as the temperature sensor was located next to the chunk of ice contributing to the false cold readings. If the board was the issue, the fridge should not have frozen again once it was replaced. He insisted that the board still needed to be replaced. During the second visit, he indicated it was a mild seal issue and it was quickly repaired. I left feeling swindled by potentially unnecessary part replacement if in fact it was just the seal. The fridge has functioned great for almost a year since the seal has been repaired. We started hearing the fan again last week and scheduled a call. I had so many recommendations that I tried to be forgiving. This time I am diagnosed with a "cracked evaporator panel" that will cost an additional $450...I mostly blame this on the crappy Samsung fridge but it's hard not to feel bitter about spending $500 last year when after two visits a simple seal resolved the issue. I have a scheduled second opinion from another recommended provider. The technician was friendly, on time, and very professional but I question his expertise. I will not use Cody's again.

Response from Cody’s Appliance Repair
Dear Member, I thank you for posting a review of your experience with our company. I see that there are some issues that have not been clarified properly. And for that I must beg your forgiveness. First, your fan encased in ice was the result, not the cause. The need for a thermister and board replacement was the proper diagnosis. This is a major repair that needed to take place to get your refrigerator back up and running as it should. Those parts had to be ordered from the manufacturer. We also had to thaw the fan in order to give you a temporary working refrigerator while we waited for the arrival of your parts, rather than leave you with an inoperable appliance. As to our warranty, you have a full one year parts-AND-labor warranty on any of our major part replacement repairs, and a 30-day warranty on the service call. The costs for that repair are determined by a computerized program that estimates the repair costs and searches for the proper parts within our own technician's truck stock, the stock of all of our other vehicles, our warehouse, and all of the suppliers in which we do business. This WAS a major repair, and the Samsung brand is particularly difficult and the parts, if we do not have them in-house, must be ordered direct from the manufacturer, which always causes a delay over other brands. Many of our competitors will not even work on the Samsung brand. This program is nationally recognized and determines the difficulty of the repair, the possible liability, and our internal fixed and hard costs, to name a few. We do NOT charge by time. This price for your repair is using a fixed-rate pricing formula. We made two trips to your home and provided almost two hours of labor for this repair. And your service call is, in fact, applied to the cost of the repair. I am sorry that you feel that the labor cost for this repair was high, but in today's market, it is not. Can you find a cheaper repair elsewhere? Yes, I am sure you can. But with us you get so much more than just a guy with a wrench in your home. Our technicians are factory trained by most major manufacturers, background, drug and alcohol checked, for your safety and security, to name just a few additional benefits of using our company over others. Most of our competitors cannot say that! And our warranty is the best in the valley! I am sorry that you are disappointed with the cost. It should have been fully explained to you prior to you giving your okay for the repair. And I saw that we were going back to your home. I have not heard the outcome of that callback, but do rest assured that we stand behind our work 100% always! We want you to be happy and satisfied with your decision to use our services.

First thing Sat. a.m. I started making calls and Cody's was the agency that gave me a positive response that they would provide service on Sat. without an extra charge. Well my machine continued to leak so I called a different company. Within 5 minutes, the technician from this company looked under the machine, pulled the bearing cover off and found the leak. It turns out the tub seal is bad which requires bearing and tub seal to be replaced. I had to pay Cody's $75 and the other company $75 for a total of $150. I contacted Codys the next day and asked to speak with the owner to see if I could get a refund. They took a message and said they would have him contact me. Three days later I called again and asked for the owner. When I gave them my name, they said I needed to send them the receipt from the different company, but I was not allowed to talk to the owner. Apparently, he was in another meeting. I would not recommend this company to anyone. The service technician at least tried, but really had no idea what he was doing. And the owner basically blew me off and wouldn't event talk to me. VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!
Description of Work: My washing machine was leaking periodically. Codys came out initially on 12/26/2013. The technican ran a diagnostics on it, but never looked under the machine. He told me nothing was wrong. It continued to leak. I called them back and they came out again on 1/28/2014. He basically threw his hands in the air and told me he had no idea what was wrong. Again, he never bothered to look under the machine.

Dear Member, I am sorry that you feel that we have not done right by you. I was given the message the day after you called, as I had already left for the day. I asked my manger to have you send us the receipt for the services provided and I needed to speak with the technician involved to get some more information before contacting you. We received the receipt this Friday afternoon. I apologize but I had left town earlier in the afternoon. We have not forgotten you. We shall be in contact with you tomorrow morning. We are not trying not be responsible at all. We have been waiting for the receipt from the other company. I cannot respond well when I do not have all the information. We came to your home for an intermittent leak. It showed no signs of leakage when he was at your home twice and you were not charged for us to return. We cannot repair something that is showing no signs of failure. The other company was able to catch the problem. We are happy to refund your service call charge. That is what I would have told you tomorrow morning during business hours. As it is, it is Sunday evening at 6:00 pm. So please know that are fully aware of your complaint and shall resolve it promptly.

The repairman knew just what the problem was. He was an hour later than expected. But we'll be using them again, for sure.

Dear Member, I am so very sorry to see that my technician was later than his appointment time that was given to you. We have a 3-hour window for arrival, and our goal is to arrive within that first hour whenever possible. And if, for some reason, he is going to be late, we give a call to let you know the status. But that is certainly not the norm. We are busy people and should not have them not come on time! I am glad to see, though, that he gave you good service and will be giving us another chance to be on time! Thank you for posting a review of your experience.

Ian came out on time (they said he would arrive between 4 and 7pm) at just after 4pm. He quickly fixed our leaky fridge, for $130 ($75 housecall included in the price). He explained to my husband why it was leaking, and how he was going to fix it. Ian also told my husband how to change the location of the washer and dryer (after he asked), and then as afterthought, Ian said we work on gas fireplaces too. Turns out, ours hasn't worked since we moved in 4 months ago. Ian quickly looked at the fireplace and got it re-started. He even cleaned the glass and vacuumed out all the dust. He also removed the ugly brass strips from the mantle and made it look much more updated. This just cost us an additional $45, for a grand total of $175. He left before 6pm fixing both items. Ian was incredibly professional, and answered all our questions, even those not related to the work he was called out to complete. We definitely recommend Cody's and will absolutely use them again if he need arises.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator was leaking water underneath. We called Cody's and they came out the very next day.

Very professional, skilled and knowledgeable.
Description of Work: Diagnosed my broken dishwasher and helped me make a repair vs replace decision. They also cleaned the coils on my refrigerator and replaced a cracked solenoid in the water line (which he happened to have in stock in his truck).

The tech was thorough, and patient enough to find what ended up being a small problem, when others that i had called just offhandedly declared a major problem. He took the time to get it right and also checked out the washer since he was sitting there watching the dryer. i am very pleased.

Dear Member, I am so glad your situation was minor. I am happy that you felt that we had taken the honest route and did a minor repair, hoping that we have a customer for life, than to sell you more than you need in the hopes you don't discover the truth. Too common these days, unfortunately, with some others. We hope to be there for you for many years to come, minor or major, we are always happy to help!
