I spent $75 just for the service call. They did not end up fixing it because it was going to cost more than a new one does. It was 12 years old, so I rather have a new one. I liked that they were very prompt and they were here when they said they were going to be here. They just got right on it and looked up the prices for the parts. Their recommendation was not to spend the money and to get a new one. The few parts that they had and that were needed were over $500, so he totally recommended I get a new one.

Dear Member, Thank you so much for your positive review. I wish that we could have repaired your washer, but sometimes it is just time to go shopping! We always try to be up front about the condition of your appliance. We would rather you buy new than to dump tons of money into an appliance that may give you more problems in the future. Please give us a call if you would like advice on what to buy and where to purchase your new appliance. Our website also has a lot of really good consumer information about your appliances and the extended warranty that they are going to try to sell to you. Again, our sincere thanks for taking the time to review our work.

Dear Member, Thank you! Thank you! We LOVE our Angie's List Members! It is always a pleasure to do business with customers who have a commitment to pass along good (or poor, if applicable) service experiences. Nobody is more committed to making sure that you are happy with your service than we are. Every time I get a new report, I hold my breath while opening up the report, hoping that we have pleased yet another customer. It's like Christmas, for this little business owner, to see a good review. We print them off, pass them around, and give "Atta Boys" to the tech who did exceptional service. Your messages are loud, clear, and strong. Our very best to you, Member. Patty H

What i"m very frustrated about is the cost. That 'board' costs $165, which I can only assume is reasonable, even though it's probably half that @ wholesale. But, the "Appliance Repair" manual they use calls for a charge of $195 labor. (Repairman said he'd 'give me a break' at $140) That is simply uncalled for, when almost anyone can replace it properly in just 2 or 3 minutes. I complained to Cody's office gal, to no avail. She said they go by some set criteria about appliance charges. I told her I felt it was over-the-top, and that I had experience in office machine repair, so I know what is fair and what is exorbitant. No response. Lately, I ran into another repairman at a parts store, and related this concern if mine. He said that Cody's Repair does overcharge on a regular basis, and in fact it was like an unwritten policy of theirs to get as much out of the customer as possible. I believe this man, since I used him for an unrelated repair, and he was friendly, open and very fair in what he charged me. Needless to say- I will not use Cody's again.
Description of Work: This was the 2nd time I've used Cody's Appliance Repair. The 1st repair was to fix a problem on the freezer section of our refrigerator. This time, our GE refrig. was not cooling at all. The repairman (same guy from the other repair) said "it's the motherboard" and indicated that the GE's have this problem. I had the refrigerator pulled away from the wall, and cleaned the unit and area for him. He pulled the cover (1 minute total) the old 'board' (another minute total), then reinstalled both.

Dear Member, I am concerned about your review of our company. I have reviewed his notes for service and I wanted to respond about what we do and our pricing. His logs show that he was in the home for 33 minutes. I was a bit worried about the "1 minute" comment. As the owner of this company, I expect -- demand perfect service for each of our customers. We us the Original Blue Book for our pricing of our repairs. It is used nation wide in many service industries to establish what the price should be for any type of repair. Pricing is determined upon knowledge and experience needed to correctly diagnose and complete the repair. We do not charge by time; it is by the completed repair. This is the only industry that seems to think that an expert at something should charge less because he is knowledgeable and experienced! Does a surgeon charge more than an intern??? It is because he is an expert. There ARE less expensive companies in this valley. Generally, they have less experience, little or no insurance (a really big, big deal), the correct type of insurance, to boot, carry little or no parts, etc. I could go on and on. We have never claimed to be the cheapest company in this valley. I would be out of business if I were some of my competitors. Honesty, I can only guess how they do keep their doors open. We are GE's factory service representative. We attend extended training, participate in webinar updates, are background and drug checked, as part of our commitment to the manufacturer. All of that comes at a cost. It is also for the safety and security of the customer! We had the part you needed right on our truck. Many of the cheaper companies carry little or no parts. Take a look at their "service vehicle." There is nothing in the bed of the truck!! You seemed to be put off by the phrasing that he would 'give you a break." I am unhappy with the phrasing too. At his discretion he lowered the amount that was recommended by the Blue Book. He is paid on commission. He will make less on this job. He KNEW that he was very familiar with this repair so he offered you a discount. I am sorry that it was not as much as you would have liked. At any time could have said, "No, thank you," and that would be that! We want our customers to think that we are honest, trustworthy, professional, and the best in the business! I am so very sorry that you were unhappy with our service and we will try harder to make sure that non of our customers feel that they have been given less than they expected.

Ross arrived on time and was very professional. He was knowledgeable and professional throughout his visit.
Description of Work: Ross the tech came on the 8th and diagnosed the trouble with the dryer. We had a short in the back. We thought the start button just broke. He had to order the part and return the next day to install it. He not only repaired the dryer, but he vacuumed the lint from the back and inside the dryer, cleaned the vent outside (this involved getting on the roof), he then proceeded to clean the coils on the refrigerator! Between the two days I am guessing he was here about 3 or 4 hours.

The lady that took my call was very nice and efficient. Technician called ( a little before scheduled, but we were home. So not a problem!). A very cordial and self confident person arrived in a few minutes. As described above, he repaired the washer! An invoice was sent via e-mail. There was also a followup postcard!!
Description of Work: The technician, Brandon, arrived and assesed the problem (odd noise from a Kitchen Aid washer). He described it as somewhat unusal. After a while, he determined it was an intermittent connection in a connector. Rather than replace the entire cable harness (expensive), he repaired the defective contact with hot melt glue! Very resourceful!!!

That is our goal for each of our clients. And I am so glad for you that we were able to mend the part and avoided a part replacement. Many companies out there would sell you the part in a heartbeat to make more money. Your trust in us is worth more than the couple of extra dollars in our pockets every time! And you bet we will keep on doing what we do every day -- earning the trust any loyalty that has kept us in business for 23 years! Please tell your friends! Oh, wait! He was absolutely fantastic. I’ve never had an appliance repair person come in and be so fast. He did a great job and I have already started recommending him to family and friends. Chris from Cody's Appliance came out that very same afternoon. He checked all possible problems, there was no water coming to the machine. He told us everything checked out fine and that we may possibly have a frozen water pipe under the house. While he was explaining this I remembered that I had changed filters under the sink of our reverse osmosis system and had turned off the water (there were several valves) and had thought I had turned it back on. Apparently I had not! Chris found the proper valve and fixed the problem immediately and made sure the ice maker functioned properly. All we were charged for was the initial service call. We will DEFINITELY call Cody's Appliance if we ever need any appliance work they are fast, friendly, courteous and resonably priced.

Cody was very professional and thoroughly explained what was wrong (capacitor and fuse blown) and was careful to explain all costs associated with repair. And, he could quickly make those repairs! Cody asked if I needed help with any other home appliances and all I could think of to ask about was a problem my out-of-state mother-in-law was having with her 50 year old oven. Cody spent several minutes discussing with me what he thought my description of symptoms might indicate and gave me good advice I passed on to her.
Description of Work: An old (13 year old) microwave just stopped working. Cody could get me in the next day after I called. I knew that I could probably buy a new one for the cost of getting my old one repaired but I really did not want to go shopping during the holidays or read a new instruction manual. I was very happy to get my old one repaired.

My dishwasher was not performing the full cleaning cycle and would stop half way through, start beeping and would not drain. A repairman came out and inspected the dishwasher. After inspecting the dishwasher, he got it to drain, so he figured he had fixed the problem by possibly untangling a hose or tightening something. I was charged for the visit. The problem did not go away, he was called back and assumed that the problem was the pump. He replaced the pump. I was charged for the labor and the cost of the pump. The problem still did not go away. He was called back again and said it must me the electrical board, which would cost more money for the parts, although he offered to install it without charging for labor. He recommended that I do not replace the electrical board. I asked for my money back for the pump but it had already been thrown away, so I payed for a new pump that did not fix the problem and is now in a dishwasher that does not work. I was not charged for this visit. Overall, I did not have a good experience with Cody's Appliance. I felt as though the repairman was looking for an easy answer, which ended up costing me a lot of money and I still have a broken dishwasher. He made me feel like he was doing me a favor for not charging to come back and inspect the dishwasher the THIRD time and that it was my fault I did not call him before he threw out my old pump "just a couple of days before".

I was shocked and dismayed to read your poor evaluation of our service and immediately set to investigating your history. First, I want to say that I am sorry that your experience was not perfection. As you can see by our history of other Angie's List members, we strive to please our customers and do a stellar job. That said, upon investigation, this is what I have learned; your complaint at time of service was that the unit did not drain. There was no mention of fault codes at any time, as you have mentioned in your review. Also, your unit never failed when the technician was at the home, so his diagnosis is all the more difficult with a working product. On the first appointment, he cleared an obstruction, not untangling a hose or tightening something, as you had reported. Also, the unit ran about 3 weeks before you reported another failure. Upon return, he replaced the pump. We charged a continuation of labor, which is the same price as if we had done that repair on the first visit . We did not replace the pump on the first visit because it worked fine after clearing the drain line. We do not sell customers parts they do not need. You then called in one month later to report the same failure, not draining. As we are the manufacturer's factory representative, my tech spent time conferring with techline about the situation. Kitchenaid determined that it needed a PC board and possibly a wiring harness. That was discussed with you on his prior visit, when the pump was installed. Sometimes we just cannot know about hidden failure I apologize that we did not have your old pump, as you requested, but we just do not keep old parts that long. Truly, no one does. I can see your frustration with the fact that the unit has not been repaired. My tech did say that a PC board and possibly a wiring harness would just not be recommended. Had you decided on this repair, we were going to do it for $0 labor, just the parts. I hope you seen that this is not a money-making deal for us; we were trying to get you up and running. Dish drawers are pesky dishwashers. We would love to regain your trust in our company and our service. We would like to offer that we come to the home to remove the pump we installed. We will reimburse you for the cost of that pump you purchased. You mentioned that you felt our technician was just looking for an easy answer. Unfortunately, in this case, your unit just did not have an easy answer. Our company MUST take some repairs one step at the time. Again, we would rather return with a part, if it becomes necessary, than to sell the customer something that they just may not need. We never want an customer to feel that we are not doing all we can for them. We want your business for life, not just take advantage of you one time. As the owner of this company, please accept my apology for your inconvenience and frustration in this matter and I hope we can resolve it to your satisfaction.

Randy was very punctual and I didn't have to take any time off work in the middle of the day except my lunch hour (thank you!). I have an OLD General Electric 'fridge which was barely functioning at all. Instead of buying a new one I decided to get an opinion on how much "life" is left in this one. I felt really dumb for never cleaning the coils (I know better), but Randy did that and then proceeded to look the whole 'fridge over, explaining what I needed to do to get optimum performance out of the oldie-but-goodie. He performed the "most simple fixes", but did tell me that if his intervention didn't continue to work, what I should ask for when calling again. Fortunately, my 'fridge is working just fine now. I really appreciated that he didn't try to sell me more than what was immediately needed. I also appreciated the time he took to "educate me", without making me feel like a schmuck. My 'fridge has been running great since then at exactly the desirablel temperatures. Now I have time to save up & pay cash for the future new 'fridge.
Description of Work: Cleaned the horribly dirty refrigerator coils, adjusted temp controls for freezer and 'fridge and trained me how to properly adjust controls, explained how to keep the ice-maker optimally functional. $69 for the house call, $20 for the services performed. Total = $89

As expected, in home repair cost is primarily labor, labor cost about $100 and the relay replacement cost about $40.
Description of Work: My fridge died, that is it was no longer cold. Kenmore 2002 side by side with ice maker / filter system. Turns out that the relay for the compressor was recalled sometime ago and had a tendency to burn itself to a crisp. Ours chose Christmas Day to die. We didn't notice for about 24 hours since we had a lot of food and frozen stuff stayed cold. I called Cody's on Sat. afternoon and they had a guy out on Monday morning. He replaced the relay with a different part that should not have the same issue and now it works fine.

I was concerned to read that you said you should have gotten an estimate first to eliminate the element of surprise for your repair costs. It is the policy of Cody's Appliance to ALWAYS give an estimate before any work is performed. We never want you to have a surprise. If our technician did not give you an estimate first, I need to address that immediately! As to the high part cost, I am sad to say it is so out of our hands in the respect that the manufacturer of the part sets the price we pay. And with the poor economy manufacturers are creating less inventory to save money, which limits availability of parts and drives the prices of the individual parts up. Believe me, it is frustrating to us, also! We do, however, strive to have a large inventory of commonly-used parts on hand to avoid the hassle of waiting for parts to be ordered and received. We want you to be happy with every aspect of our service, and if you are not, I want to make it right. I have placed a $20 credit onto your account for your next service. Please contact us if you have any other questions or concerns.

Described above. The technician told me that the transmission was beginning to wear and advised us not to overload the washer when using it. I felt he was honest, helpful and overall was a good repair experience. I will definitely call them again if needed.
Description of Work: I called them in the morning and the service tech was at my home to do the repair by early afternoon. He replaced the belt on my washer, reminded me to change the filter on our furnace/ac to avoid working the ac unit more than necessary(it needed it) and was very knowledgeable and professional. Cody's is definitely on my favorite list. Connie, Middleton

It was a pleasant experience, except to write the check, that's always painful regardless.
Description of Work: We had a bad squeak in our dryer. I called Cody's and they were professional, prompt and polite. Ron was the repairman. He looked at my dryer, show'd me the problem and then gave me an estimate of cost and when parts would be in. They called me when parts were in and came out to fix it within a day. He was on time for both appointments, courteous and professional. Estimate was right on and I will call Cody's again.

They arrived on time, did the work and left us with a working broiler.
Description of Work: They installed a new broiler in my oven. I had already ordered the part from GE.

This morning I realized the refrigerator/freezer wasn't working. Since it was a Kenmore, I called Sear and they could send someone out tomorrow between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Since I'd used Cody's for dishwasher installation, I called and Ron came out within an hour or so. He told me usually when a refrigerator stopped cooling, it was either the compressor or the relay. Thankfully, it was the relay because that was much cheaper. He noticed that the filter light was red so he asked if I wanted him to install a new filter. After giving me the price I said yes because we've needed a new filter since we moved in six months ago. Ron also showed me how the ice maker worked, and suggested cleaning the door gaskets and vacuuming the condenser twice a year. Plus he was able to tell me what year the refrigerator was since I didn't know.
Description of Work: Repaired the Kenmore refrigerator that had quit cooling.

My call to make an appointment, which was based upon reports in Angie's List, was answered promptly and very politely and an appointment was set up quite quickly. Cody phoned ahead to let me know when he would arrive at my home and set to work immediately to troubleshoot the cause. He obviously is well-versed in the workings of washing machines because he identified the issue rapidly. I also appreciated that he explained what was wrong, what happened, and how he would fix it. He also very capably answered all my questions and did not talk down to me when giving his answers.
Description of Work: The washing machine would randomly fail to drain the full tub of water. Cody determined the problem was a malfunctioning latch on the top-loading door. He replaced the latch, which he had in his truck, and also gave me some helpful advice on a question I had regarding our dryer.
