Andy did a fine job, better than the original installer. Performed the work on schedule while we were out of town. A little dust left over, but that's to be expected.

n The contractor didn't have the necessary sanding pads on hand which delayed the sanding process into the time frame in which we had been asked to be out of our home. This forced us to stay extra nights in a hotel and to find an alternate place for our dog for two extra nights. The stain color that was used was incorrect so the entire floor had to be re-sanded and re-stained at an additional cost to me, at this point we just wanted it done so we agreed to pay the additional charge. The stain was splashed on our was, spilled on our carpet. The clean up after this contractor was a week long process, because no precautions were taken to mask off the areas, like all kitchen appliances and cabinets. Overall it was not a good experience, after each complication the contractor was apologetic but he could have avoided all the problems if he had planned ahead and done a better job of preparing for the job. Would not use again and can not recommend.

They removed all of the old flooring and carpet and had it hauled away. They installed unfinished solid hardwood flooring throughout (living room, den, dining room, foyer, and 3 bedrooms, including the closets). They sanded, stained, and finished the floors. As we are still in the process of remodeling the house, they will return when we're done to make any repairs and put the final coat down. They put down rolls of ram board to protect the floors until we are done.

I purchased an 11 year old house that had renters in if for about the last 3 years. The floors were pretty beat up and I thought it would be wise to have them redone before I moved in so that I didn't have to move in, move out, move back in again, and clean dust off of everything. I got two bids, and I liked A Max. My hope was to purchase the house and then have the floors done immediately, so that they were ready when I had the time off to move, the following week. A Max had another job lined-up for that week, but he was willing to come and do mine, too, so that I could get it done on the time schedule that worked best for me. I really appreciated his willingness to do this for me! The floors look BEAUTIFUL and I am so glad I did this eventhough I hadn't planned on that expense. It was worth it! I feel like I moved into a new house!!

There was a small hiccup but A Max responded to it before we were even aware of it and resolved it.

Floors amazing and like new. Some dust but they do a great job covering what they can and cleaning after job is completed. Highly recommended for hardwood floor refinishing....very professional work.

Our hardwood floors had gotten scratched during a kitchen remodel. We contacted Andy for a bid to refinish them, which he provided at the end of an in-home inspection. He explained the process his company would follow, as well as the products they would use. He also said he would have a person come into our home after the refinish was completed to clean all the places where dust (from sanding) would have accumulated. His bid was very fair compared to those we received from other vendors. We were impressed with Andy, his knowledge, and apparent honesty. He had also received very good marks on Angie's List, which was important to us. We contacted him to say we'd like to employ his company, and at that time we worked out a mutually satisfactory date for the job to be done. Interestingly, since doing a job like this requires the home-owners to vacate their living quarters for a night or two (odors/chemicals), we scheduled it for a time when we would be out of town. That meant trusting him and his crew with a key to our home, which, based on Andy's reputation, we agreed to do. When we returned home we were thrilled with the job A-Max had done. Our floors were scratch-free and looked like new. Beautiful! Andy was great to work with, he and his crew did an excellent job, and we recommend him to anyone looking for hardwood floor refinishing. Dependable people, reasonable price, and high quality work. We couldn't be happier with the entire process.

I don't think this is really very ethical. My husband and I spent app. 6 hours wiping down walls, trim, and cabinets in our whole house, We also had to vac. all the furniture and it now really needs to be professionally cleaned. The wood floors look fairly good but this was not a pleasant experience. My husband and I have built two houses and remodeled three so we know appropriate behavior and cleanliness of job site. Just make sure you ask all the questions and know what you are getting into before starting.

I have put off writing this review because I really like Andy and greatly admire his business ethics and unwavering commitment to customer service. The world could use a lot more like him. Problem is that the work the first time was simply unacceptable, and there was too much collateral damage. In fairness, I will probably never try staining hardwood again. The first time they did the job, the stain was very streaky, with lines where the sections overlapped. To Andy's great credit, he was pure gold when I told him I couldn't live it for 10 years. He worked me into the schedule quickly and re-did half the job without an ounce of negativity or bickering. He personally attended the re-do to make sure the work was better done. It's not flawless, but he was working with wood installed from 3 periods over 55 years, and it's pretty good. His staff was personable, prompt and pleasant to have in my home. The remaining downsides: a gouge in a wall, dark stain on my white floor boards and the feet of my refrigerator, a ding in a kitchen cabinet, finish on my tile entry. I tried to ignore all of this because I like Andy and because he did stand behind the quality of his work. But I rely too much on customer reviews to not tell you the truth. Would I use him again? I'm not sure. I greatly value good, honest business people who care about customers - and for that A-Max gets full marks. But I will probably ask around and get additional opinions next time. Wouldn't rule him out, but it's not a no-brainer for me either. (So sorry, Andy.)

He exceeded our expectations. He was very straight-forward and let us know what products he was going to use ahead of time. He was clean, friendly, on time, and reasonably priced. The business is family owned. I would absolutely recommend him to others.

The process started when I located A-MAX Hardwood using an Internet search. I found his web-site and reviewed its material. I noted that he had a positive BBB rating and good references. I left a message for Andy to call me. He called back and we scheduled a time for him to look at my floors. He arrived (somewhat late), measured the site, provided a quote and discussed how the process worked. At this point, he was scheduling for about 6 weeks out. I agreed to the quoted work and price and we set a date for the floors to be refinished. So far, so good! Early in the week when the work was to be done, having not heard from Andy since the quote was made, I confirmed with Andy that he was on schedule and would be starting/finishing the work as agreed. Good to go! On the morning of the day the work was to start, my wife and daughter were standing by to meet Andy and crew since I had an early morning meeting and was not available to do the "hand off" of house key and get any final instructions/information relating to the project. This went well, although the crew was again somewhat late. I returned late afternoon to review progress, all was proceeding well, no surprises. Andy and his associate, Jacob, prepared the area so most of the dust from sanding was captured and removed. They say they get 85% of the dust. I saw a huge bag of wood dust, so I'm guessing that estimate is reasonably accurate. They hang sheets of protective barrier material to help contain the dust. When completed, there was still a lot of dust everywhere, so we needed to do a thorough cleaning after they were done. It was not horrible, however, nor was it unexpected. The dust went everywhere, including inside of the cabinets that weren't air tight. We were out of the house for two days (planned), so were not generally on-hand to observe the process. I did stop by to check out the progress a few times, however. We were advised on the best practices for re-entry, re-placement of furniture, rugs, etc., and on general maintenance practices. Upon return to the house, the barrier sheets were gone, but the protective masking tape was still attached to carpet (etc.) adjoining the floor, which I removed following a call to Andy to confirm they were done. The floors now look good as new, perhaps even better. The work was of the highest quality. The refinishing process restored the natural colors of the wood. I hadn't realized how much they had yellowed over the past 12 years. I am very happy with the results of the process. Andy did a masterful job, and I would not hesitate to hire him back for another project.

The floors turned out beautiful. In fact Jacob mentioned to us that our painted front porch was made out of Doug Fir and that they had recently refinished another porch made out of the same wood. He said that porch had turned out beautiful, so we had him give us a bid and 4 days later our 90 year old porch was stripped of several layers of paint and the original wood was shining brightly. We are so happy Jacob mentioned the porch. Couldn't be happier with the outcome both inside and outside.

Andy got the job done right on time. The results are beautiful. It really brought new life to the floors. Andy was very professional but also very personable. He really knows his business. I would definitely use his company again. He is coming back tomorrow to clean up the dust as well. A+ rating!!

We LOVED the results. The floor is GORGEOUS. I managed to drop something on it when we were moving things back in and he was great about coming back to fix it. He's just an all around nice guy.

The seal coating has an odor that might be offensive to some. Would recommend for a larger job, the day the seal is applied it might be best to stay the night elsewhere to allow fumes to fade.

We love our floor, Andy did an exceptional job that well exceeded our high expectations. Caution: You will have dust. Sanding your floor is a dusty process, no matter who you use. A-Max gets most of the dust but you will have the rest - in the air, on you walls, etc. Put plastic over everything you can possibly cover beforehand. If you use the oil-based finish like we did (which is really the best choice) it is REALLY stinky. We have cats that we could not move out of our house so we decided to stay there with them. We were lucky to be able to open up windows and air out the parts of the house we were staying in, away from the floor, but if you can possibly LEAVE when he puts on this coat (24 hours max) that would be best. However, we stayed here, it wasn't THAT bad but we wouldn't recommend it! Andy gave us all the facts beforehand so we would know, we prepared by sealing off the bedroom. We have a 2-story house, and the bottom floor below the wood refinish was barely impacted by the smell. DO get a couple more bids; that will make you feel even better about selecting A-Max! DO get your dishes, pots etc. out of bottom cupboards (above the floor being sanded). No need to dust them, just put them away DO Not wait! If you have wanted to get your hardwood redone, do it now. Andy is busy so you have to get him while you can!
