My experience with Dymin was several years ago. I don't remember exactly what my computer problem was, so I don't remember exactly what Dymin folks did for me! I do remember that I was very satisfied -- and relieved, since I am not very computer savvy -- and that I would use them again in the same situation.

Regarding a refurbished computer purchase, the company did offer a 90 return policy but the computer stopped working just outside of the 90 days. It was a lot of money to spend to not have a computer last longer than it did. The hard drive failed. I talked to Dymin but did not get any result. Regarding having Dymin remove information from the families old PC's, the result was very successful. Dymin then disposed of the computers at my request. I do not have the paperwork anymore. The date of service and amount is an estimate.

I'm so sorry that the computer you purchased from us has a problem with its hard drive. That's very uncommon with Dymin's computers as we selectively "cherry pick" the computers that we sell, and the only computers you'll find on Dymin's showroom are quality computers that we can stand behind. Our refurbished computers are totally different from your typical "used" computer that you might buy online or from a Craigslist ad. We perform a factory restore on the Operating System, fully clean them, and run them through actual diagnostic testing programs. As with anything electronic, however, sudden and unexpected breakdowns do occur. When deciding upon the length of warranty to include with our refurbished computers, we wanted to also be able to offer great prices, so we ultimately decided to go with the industry-standard 3 month warranty. As a courtesy for our customers, we always offer to waive the labor charges in the unlikely event that a breakdown does occur within a reasonable time from the expiration of the warranty.

I started using Dymin many years ago (9-10 or so). At that time their computer techs came to my home for much of the work, or picked up my computer for a $20. pick up and delivery fee Other times when I could get my computer to them, (using a neighbor or taxi service) they worked on it in their shop. I had them build and update 2-3 computers with memory and other things over the years. Back until 2-3 years ago I felt they had plenty of staff and valued me as a loyal customer. But things changed for reasons I don't know about, and some of the staff they had for quite some time were no longer there. I used to be able to talk with the owner by phone or email, but I could not get him to return emails or phone calls. When I went to buy my last desk top computer about six months ago, I both emailed and called to speak to the owner, since the head technical support man was no longer there. I was going to be spending $2000-2500., and I wanted to see what they had to offer me. I did not want to talk to someone I did not know. I never got a call or email back from the owner or anyone else, so I decided I would buy from someone who would answer all my questions and customize things nicely for me, within my price range and give me a three year in home repair (if possible) warranty on the new computer. I bought a new one. About 3-4 weeks after my attempts to reach Scott, who I knew over time to be the owner, I got a call from a man I did not know, who said he was in charge of sales at DYMIN and he heard I left a message!! I said he and Scott were about a month too late. While they did good work in the earlier years I used them, I felt the company became more impersonal and changed to the point where I felt more safe and more comfortable using a larger company who had a great warranty and who gave me everything I needed and more, plus time to pay for it. I don't know what their technical repair or new computer sales quality is like now at DYMIN, since it has been a couple of years since I have used them, and their staff has changed.

Over 11 years ago. Dymin built a computer for my son. It was used for several years. without any problems. When we wanted a newer, updated computer, we bought a used one from Dymin and have been very pleased with it. At one point the used computer got a virus on it, and Dymin removed the virus. The computer has worked great since then. I am very pleased with their services and will continue to do business with them.

The person I talked to at the front desk either wrote the order wrong or the techs who do the work didn't read the order and just did what they always do when someone wants a second drive installed and data copied from an old computer to a new one. The techs installed the OS and my data both on the new SSD. Of course, the new 240 Gb SSD was then almost full. So I got a call asking me what I wanted done and counseling me to leave the OS on the new drive and put the data on the original drive. I knew how to use a separate drive as a scratch disk, but not how to work with two drives with the OS on one drive and data on another. Following my original directions or ten minutes of upfront explanation would have saved me hours of researching on the net because when I called Dymin to ask, I did not get a call back. Note: The cost below includes the cost of the SSD. The SSD itself cost $147.

The best, and most easy and effective way to operate any computer is to have all your computer's information (both Operation System and Data) stored on a single hard drive. During our initial consultation to discuss upgrading your computer to an SSD, we did not yet know how much information your old hard drive currently held within it. Our initial goal then was to determine that amount of information and compare it to the capacity of your SSD. Upon finding out that your data would not fit on to your new SSD, we called you to talk about your options. I absolutely understand that working with 2 hard drives in a computer can be confusing, which is why we always check to see if your computer can be used with the data all on one hard drive first. Unfortunately with your computer, that was not possible, and you asked us to load the data on a secondary hard drive for you. While we do everything possible to prepare users for how to operate a computer with 2 hard drives, it does come with a slight learning curve. I did review our phone call recordings to ensure we didn't miss a call from you. I see that we returned your voicemail the morning after we received it, and we spent some time walking you through locating your financial information. We also walked you through creating a password for your new computer, as well as setting up your printer. If there was anything at all that you still had questions about, our techs would bend over backwards to help. We love helping people and fixing things. Overall the experience was good but they did not live up to the 24 hour service advertisement. It took a little over 2 working days to find out what was wrong and what it would cost to repair. Once they got the OK to repair them they were fixed and returned promptly. They were still quicker then what we were told from the place that we bought them from and will use them again. Still skeptical of the 24 hour repair advertisement but overall still happy with their work.

I bought a new HP Laptop from Dymin for $700. It is only about 6 months old. I have had lots of problems with this laptop. In August, I took it in because of multiple issues. They said it was under warranty and they said they removed malware/virus . Took it home and it still did not work well. Took it back in August and they said it is still under warranty and they kept the laptop to do testing for a couple of weeks. Then they called and said it needed reimaging, since they said that when they removed the malware/virus, it removed the fingerprint driver and could not reinstall it. I went to pick it up, to do a back up, before they reimage it and was told that I owed $120! I spoke to the manager Matt Heland, who said that software issues are not covered by the warranty. I explained: they installed the software, they removed the virus and therefore removed my driver, causing the issue and most of all, no one called me and told me that it was not covered by the warranty, nor did I sign or agree to any charges! Mr. Heland would not cooperate. I left the laptop there and called the next day. I called Mr. Heland and after discussion, he said he should have charged me for removing the virus!!! I agreed to pay half, just to get my laptop back! UPDATE 9/20/13 Mike Hurt, manager, called me and worked very hard to resolve our communication and computer problem. He reimaged my computer and it works great now. I really appreciate the extra mile.

Ngant showed up on time and proceeded to repair all the items on my list. Later when I tried to use my disk loader, it still did not work. I called him several times and he wouldn't return my call so I gave up and called another company. I will never use Dymin again.

Ms. H's review is based on work we did for her computer back in August 2012. According to our technician notes, we repaired Ms. H's computer of a serious virus infection and addressed several issues on the list Ms. H provided, including the disc drive. Our technician tested the disc drive prior to Ms. H picking up her computer and we were unable to replicate Ms. H's reported problem (i.e., all CDs and DVDs we placed in the drive read and copied successfully). Ms. H picked up her repaired computer on August 15th. Ms. H did not contact us until August 25th to report that she was still having issues with the computer. We answered her call in the early evening on Friday, August 25th, but since it was after business hours, we needed to contact her on the following Monday. We have a 45-minute recorded phone call on Monday, August 27th where our technicians provided free followup service over a remote-control internet session to address Ms. H's issues. We stand behind every repair we complete, and so we offer a 7-day Accurate Repair Guarantee. Our guarantee is 7 days, because beyond that amount of time, it becomes increasingly likely for problems to be unrelated or have new problems develop. We did the remote-control session with Ms. H free of charge as a courtesy, even though she did not report having any problems with the repaired computer until 10 days afterwards.

I brought in my laptop needing it back as soon as possible for work. The person who took my computer promised it to me the next day, and said he was going to be working on it himself right away. I was actually called later that same day saying the computer was ready to be picked up. Since I had been told over the phone (from another company) my hard drive was probably shot, I was pleasantly surprised that it was "only" a virus. The staff were friendly and didn't make me feel silly for not knowing what was going on with my computer.

I brought my computer in and they had all the additional parts that I wanted (power supply, RAM, and USB 3.0 PCI card) in stock. In less than an hour Nam installed everything, including the required software for the solid-state caching drive. Total bill at Dymin was just over $200.My computer is really fast now and I love it! Description of Work: With Intel's new Ivy Bridge processors just a few weeks old, I was once again bitten by the “it's time to get a faster computer” bug. The problem was that these new computers were not yet available in the stores. Companies like Ibuypower and Cyberpower who custom-build computers would charge me around $1500 to get what I wanted. I did some research and found that there was a new technology called solid-state caching that could really speed up my computer. I bought the Adrenaline from Crucial for around $100 to upgrade my year old Gateway desktop. I also wanted to add USB 3.0 to my computer, increase the RAM and replace the 300 W power supply with one that was more powerful. There is no way I was going to do this myself. I visited 2 local computer repair stores to get their opinion on the proposed upgrades. The first had never heard of the solid-state caching technology and the second told me that everything that I wanted to do was a waste of time and money because my computer was essentially worthless. I knew then I had to find another computer repair company and nothing was coming up in my Google search. So, I joined Angie's list. I immediately saw Dymin and that they had excellent reviews. They had not shown up in my Google search for computer repair in West Des Moines because they are located in Urbandale. I called and spoke to Ron. He was extremely knowledgeable and assured me that I would be very happy with the increased performance that solid-state caching would provide. I asked if I could bring my computer in and wait for the repairs to be done. He said sure. I didn't even ask what this would cost because I was so happy to find someone knowledgeable and optimistic about what I wanted to do.

The first time major viruses were found and removed but after a few days it started to freeze up again. I called and they took it back immediately with no questions ask and found that it still had a residual virus that was finally eradicated. No charge for that, no hassel, and very courteous. They also told me how to help prevent future infections. The second computer had many astronomy software programs on it that only worked with Windows XP. I was really worried when they said that the old hard drive was going and that I'd have to have a new computer. They were not only able to save all the programs and data from the old computer but also move it into an upgraded newer computer, and have Windows XP on the new one. I tried it at the observatory yesterday and it works great. Very reasonable charges, prompt service, and they really knew what they were doing. I couldn't be happier and would recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: I had two major computer problems. One laptop completely became non functional and the other would freeze up intermitantly. I took them in at two separate times and ended up with both working great. One had to have it's hard drive transfered to another rebuilt used tower. The lap top is working like new.
