I agree with some of the other comments by customers here regarding the sales pitch. The sales process was very time consumer (and didn't quite feel right) and took two hours of our time. To be fair, the sales guy was kind, courteous, helpful. First, he did measurements of all the rooms and then sat my wife and down to talk. He showed us examples of local competitors bids on other projects (finding fault with each one) and generally took us through way more info than we wanted. I actually had to stop him and tell him to move along with the pitch. He implied that Leechmans was the only company that can get you tax rebate or utility company rebate, which I knew was not true. Generally, it's all part of the sales pitch, so I can live with that. He never did get to pricing out a specific furnace for us. If you don't make decision that day, you have to wait another day for the price. All you have is a pledge to give you the lowest price and a 10-year warranty. They won't even tell you the brand, only that the furnace they pick will be right for your house. He showed us a list of top brands including Trane, Carrier, and others from Consumer Reports. Even though he assured us they will install one of those brands (won't tell you which), we got an Amana furnace, which is manufactured by Goodman. I did some research and these are the most inexpensive furnaces and widely available. This is how they can offer you the lowest price. This brand was not even listed in Consumer Reports on the day of installation, and ironically Legends uses Consumer Reports in their sales schtick. Overall, the entire estimation/sales process was not a consumer-friendly in my opinion. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I'm not sure I got best price or brand. I have solid warranty, but no comparative basis to judge. There is a lowest price guarantee, but you'd never know. We needed quick installation (crack in heat exchanger of old unit) so not as much diligence on our part (my fault, for sure). I must say, the installation guys were great. Professional, courteous, clean, and very informative. I would recommend the installation guys (Chad and Doug) to anyone. They did fast work and explained everything. Although, the installers did say the new unit would not save us the 25% guaranteed heating savings in our agreement. I called the sales guy and he said the installers misspoke. Hmmm. We'll see. Overall, the experience was good, I have a new furnace that was properly install, but the experience was tarnished by the upfront "blind" sales process. Also, if you're a brand person (and not everyone is)...then you may not want to go with this company. My advice is get other quotes before you call this company.

The service was quick and efficient. The installers even help my Mom with some remaining standing water. They were very professional and considerate. My only B rating was on price because I thought the overal price might be a little high. I know the cost of the actual unit ($360 - $400) and is not an Energy Star unit. I did ask what the breakdown for the water heater, parts, and labor was: they reported back to my Mom that they just give a project price, no breakdown. I was a little disappointed at that. All this was done remotely since I am in North Carolina, but just wanted to know my Mom got good service and a good price. The first was great, the other I can't really tell. Overall, she got hot water back in a short time, with courteous and profesional personnel.
Description of Work: Water Heater was replaced in my Mom's house after the recent rains flooded part of her basement. She received a prompt response, and service rep came the same day, they set a price, and the installation was done the next day.

I was disappointed with my experience, and since have talked with others that have had the same type of experience that I did. I live in an older home with an aging furnace and AC. With tax credits and other incentives, we were looking to get our furnace and AC replaced last year, so we called Service Legends. We scheduled an appointment for an "engineering evaluation" that was to take into account multiple factors about our home (many of which competitive companies have since said are completely irrelevant). The individual that came showed up on time and was polite and courteous initially. He inspected several things and seemed to know what he was doing, but when we sat down, the meeting turned into an extremely high pressure sales pitch, with incentives for acting immediately. One of the initial questions he asked was "what is your budget?" which through me off a bit, as it felt like the price would vary based on my answer. As the conversation progressed, it felt like this information was used against me to justify a higher priced system. The salesperson was quoting prices but wouldn't tell me what model was associated with the price. The salesperson even resorted to the "you must not trust me" approach, apparently to see if he could close the deal and guilt me into signing. Needless to say, these things made me very uncomfortable -- particularly the high pressure approach. That is the reason I didn't give them my business and have given them such low marks on this report. Beware.

Seems like a trade standard procedure, but I wish they wouldn't tell you: your equipment is old and that they are prone to failure, regardless of how many years old they are, in my case 10 years. Offers to credit you whatever you spend that day on repairs towards a new equipment if you purchase it within 30 days leaves me with a little uncomfortable feeling and uneasy about the future operation of it. Not a critique to this guys in particular since they were very professinal and thorough, just a critique in general to the trades, I've heard it before with water heater service; aplliances services; etc. This is the only reason for rating them B in the overall experience. Otherwise excellent service.
Description of Work: cleanup of AC external unit. Check on AC system overall. Check furnace and check overall functioning of it. Very professional, corteous and thorough. Really seem to know exactlly what they are doing.

Called ahead with time of arrival, worked 4 hours. Inspected / tested 55 different components, including HD camera evaluation of heat exchange to review any possible hidden leaks. Received follow-up call from company to check satisfaction. Technicians were well-trained, very professional. Best system inspection I've ever had from an HVAC company!

I had scheduled an appointment on 4/22, but had to reschedule, they were very accommodating on changing it to 4/26. I service tech arrived on time (actually called an hour early). I did realize I had requested a safety check for $77.00 from advertisement. But after he found 3 things on my 11 year old systems, I had him do the cleaning and repairs. It took him about 2 hours, he was neat and clean and very professional.
Description of Work: Checked heating and air condition units for safety. Cleaned both units and replaced electronic parts operating below specifications.

I was disappointed by my experience trying to get a quote from them. On a positive note, the rep who showed up to estimate my project was nice, courteous and informative. He obviously knew his stuff, and I thought he seemed well-qualified. He was definitely the most thorough at inspecting my basement and existing HVAC setup. That I really liked. All in all, I have no doubt that Service Legends would do quality work. What left a bad taste in my mouth was the amount of *my* time involved trying to get a simple quote for a straightforward HVAC job. By the time it was over, I?d invested several hours over the course of a week attempting to get a quote, only to not get one. All the other companies I dealt with spent 15-30 minutes at my house inspecting my basement and emailed me a quote by the next day. I spent a good hour and a half with the rep initially. After inspecting my basement, we had a lengthy discussion which seemed like a bit of a ?sales job?. I was asked how much I budgeted for HVAC. That kinda struck me as odd given that I was getting quotes for that purpose! He also wanted my wife to be involved in the discussion. I get the feeling that is a Service Legends thing, as their dispatcher asked several times, "Does that time work for you and your wife?" while setting up the appointment. I mentioned my wife had no interest in the whole decision making process for our basement, but that seem to fall on deaf ears. The initial visit ended with him wanting to meet again with me and my wife the next week, at which point he?d present a quote to us. I was asked if I'd be able to commit *on the spot* upon hearing the quote. Of course I said "No!". My whole point in getting a several quotes was to compare and contrast them to make the best decision. I wasn?t going to do that with someone looking over my shoulder and pressuring me. All in all, it seemed like too much discussion and pressure just to get a quote. Over the course of the following week, I emailed the rep a few times to see if he would simply email me a quote like everyone else. I got a ?let?s do it in person? response, or none at all. Needless to say, I cancelled the follow-on appointment and went with a more receptive company. If you?ve got the time and can handle the an involved discussion on your HVAC project, I?m sure Service Legends is a fine HVAC service company. If you value your time, though, and you, your family and your HVAC project have a tight schedule, I?d look elsewhere.

I used the coupon on Angie's List and got 50% off the service call! I called on a Saturday morning and they were here in two hours with no extra charge. My furnace was making awful noises which it has periodically done over the years and others have tried to fix it. He seemed to know just what to do and I now have the quietest furnace I've ever had. Will definitely call them when it's time to service my air conditioner!

While I would rather not have spent the money, we felt we were treated very honestly and with respect. I am confident that we got a great deal. I would hire this firm again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Our furnace quit over the weekend. The service man came out on Saturday and gave us the bad news. Sunday they brought us several electric heaters and we went over the replacement options. Monday morning a crew showed up and by late afternoon the house was nice and warm again. The crew was very polite and friendly. They were careful to keep the work area clean and were as unobtrusive as possible. When they were done the house was still as neat and clean as before the problem.

I liked their cheerfulness when they answered the phone. They were on time and fixed the furnace right the first time. The technician and the office followed up with me. I also got a referral program from them. It?s a well run company. I liked their workmanship, professionalism and follow through. They were very fairly priced too. They were simply awesome and took very good care of me.

I called on a Saturday and scheduled an appointment on Tuesday for an 8-10 am service. My only complaint was that I had to call after 10 am to discover that they had mis-scheduled my appointment for the following week. That being said, they quickly rescheduled me immediately, and the technician arrived within about an hour. He spent a long time examining the furnace, telling me about service, necesary repairs, and my humidifier and duct work. I'm not very handy, so the technicians detail and patience were wonderful. I was never talked down to, or spoken over my head. He wasn't pushy for additional services, although did explain the advantages of their "club service" plan.

It went very well. Our experience was similar to those reported in previous Angie's List reviews. Since the company's Web site claimed that their phone is answered by a human being 24x7, we decided to try it out. We made our initial phone call to set up an appointment on a Sunday afternoon, and yes our call was answered by a friendly human being. She took down our information and set up our appointment. The technician showed up on-time. He was professional, friendly and explained what he was doing in a way that a layperson can understand. We were very appreciative of the respect he had for our home. He and his uniform were clean. He didn't smell smoky. He also put on "booties" that protected our flooring. Since we don't wear shoes in our house we really liked that. We've had other contractors who wear their boots (sometimes dirty) throughout our house and don't give a second thought to taking them off. The issue of respecting our home is a BIG factor we consider when evaluating contractors, and weighs heavily in our decision of whether or not to go with them again. We had an overall positive experience with this company. This includes all the way from the initial phone call to the departure of the technician. They demonstrated professionalism and knowledge about our home's A/C system. In addition, they demonstrated respect for us and our home.

Adam came to give an estimate on replacing the furnace on one side of my duplex, gave very detailed information on furnaces available and told us up front everything they would be responsible for doing. We were able to make an informed judgment on which system would be best. Later i called Adam to talk about central air. He came to the house and again gave pros and cons of central air vs heat pump. Explained how each worked and was able to give us a good deal when heat pump and furnace installed at the same time. There was alot of work involved including wiring for 220, replacing some of the duct work and registers, cleaning furnace etc. there were no added charges for these services. The technician went over in detail everything that was done.
Description of Work: I own a duplex, replaced furnace on rented side and had heat pumps installed on both sides of the duplex.
