We were really impressed with not only the quality of the work, but the professionalism of all the staff. They worked carefully instead of being in a hurry to get done and leave like a lot of roofing companies are. I watched them work several times when they didn't know I was watching and they were very careful to do a good job and didn't spend/waste time joking with each other and messing around like I have seen other companies do. They also were careful not to damage our gutters and downspouts. I can't say enough about this company and have recommended them to others who need any type of roofing work done. They are the BEST!

They did an excellent job. The crew was very personable. They could talk to me anytime and explain whatever they did. They cleaned up after they made any kind of mess. When the shingles came down, they cleaned up immediately. It was an excellent service. They did great cleanup and their professionalism was good. They were very easy to work with. If I ever had to have another roof done, I would definitely hire them again.

EJS is what every company should be like. They were prompt in coming out for an estimate and were very competitive in their pricing. They were thorough in their explanation of their product and their installation service. They even made a special trip out to drop off another shingle sample. They called a week in advance to let us know what day they would be coming to do the job. They then called two days ahead to say it would be a day earlier if that worked out for us. They said they would be here at 7:00 A.M. and at 6:58 A.M they all rolled in and were on the roof by 7:02. A.M. They completed the job in one day with all clean up and disposal. All crew members were friendly, respectful and willing to answer any questions we had. We had a couple different neighbors comment to us how impressed they were with the job and how they got it all done in one day. I would highly recommend EJS Roofing and would use them again.

We could not have been happier with EJS Roofing from start to finish. Ed Schroeder, the owner, is extremely responsive and professional. When you call he is the one that answers the phone, and if you leave a message he always calls back. We got several estimates last October 2011, but because it was late in the season, all roofers were booked through the end of the season before it got too cold. Several other roofers didn't even bother to call us back, but even though EJS was booked, he still came to give us an estimate. After sending his his foreman to come look at our roof the next day, that same week Ed was sitting with us in our kitchen going over the estimate in detail for over 45 minutes. The other two companies just mailed us an estimate. One thing I loved is that Ed patiently answered all of our many questions explaining in great detail exactly what they were going to do. We knew we were going to wait until spring to have the work done. In the meantime, I needed several patches done where shingles had blown off my roof. Ed said, "I'd have to charge you $200-$300 to have one of my guys come down and do the patches to hold you over, but if you're mildly handy, here's how you could do it yourself." He then gave me a free 15 minute lesson on how to patch a roof, giving me a list of the materials I'd need and showing me how to do it. I spent $35 at the hardware store and took two hours on the roof myself to patch the missing shingles that Saturday. Another thing I loved is that Ed said they'd be willing to lock in their price that Fall and they would eat any cost increase between then and this spring when the work would be done. The other roofing companies said they'd have to re-do the estimate in the spring. Last, Ed gives a 10% discount to Angie's List customers, so after that discount, his estimate was also the most competitive of the three we got. Ed called us in March to schedule our job this April, and even though he suggested one day, he was happy to schedule it a week later which was more convenient for us. His crew showed up bright and early Monday morning at 7 am and went right to work. They did the entire job in one day!! I didn't officially count, but I recall there being around 7-9 crew members here from 7 am to 7 pm working hard to get the job done. Ed stopped in three different times that day to check on how the work was coming, first in the morning, then midway through, then at the end of the day. The crew laid huge tarps all around the house to cover our bushes, grass, driveway, and patio to catch any debris from the tear off, but nearly all of the torn-off shingles went into their garbage trailer parked in the driveway. By around 10-11 am they were re-papering, putting down the ice-shield, and laying the new shingles. They took a 1 hour break for lunch, and then came back and didn't stop until the whole roof was done. They cleaned up all the tarps, garbage, etc. They had two different guys waving the "nail magnets" all over our property picking up stray nails for about an hour and a half while the last guys on the roof finished up. They left the trailer overnight in our driveway and told me they were going to have a couple guys come back in the morning to do the finishing touches of clean up. This was fine by me. That evening while the crew was cleaning up, I noticed for the first time that when our house was built, the siding installers forgot to install two tiny little triangular patches of siding about 9 inches by 4 inches in two little corner nooks where ice and water could build up. I also went up on the roof myself to closely inspect the shingles and found three roofing nails that hadn't been covered with little globs of black tar as the rest had been (they were hidden under a part of the roof that overhangs another and would have been easy to miss by anyone). Ed told me that when his guys came back the next day to finish up cleanup, he would also have them install two patches of counter flashing cut to cover the missing siding to prevent potential leakage from ice build up and recommended we have a professional sider follow-up. He also made sure those exposed nails were covered with the black tar stuff as well. They did exactly as he said they would early the next morning. The last thing I loved is that Ed requires no deposit, no money down, and no payment until the work is completed to your 100% satisfaction. He gives a 10 year workmanship warranty (we could have paid a little more for a 15 or 20 year workmanship warranty if we wanted), and the shingles come with a lifetime manufacturer warranty. I rarely write reviews, and I expect a lot in terms of customer service. If I had negative things to say I would say them, but I honestly could not have been more pleased with EJS Roofing. I love the way our new roof looks. His crew did a great job and completed it faster than I thought they would. We paid a competitive price for quality work. I will recommend EJS roofing to anyone - even my next door neighbor who needs his roof done now too! Thanks Ed!

They are absolutely great.

The people showed up about 7 30 am and started to cover bushes and shrubs around the house.Then they started removing the old shingles after we retrieved 2 of the Certainteed shingles that I needed for the settlement that Certainteed is offering on defective shingles . The employees were very helpful with information about my roof and any questions that I had. They also use a trailer for the debris ,so no gouges in my drive way. They finished about 430 and were all cleaned up and the yard looked great and I was very happy with the roof. Also received my discount because of Angie list. I highly recommend this company.

I cannot say enough great things about EJS roofing. If you intend to have any roof work done, you won't find a company better for the job. I have a home under contract to purchase and the home required a new roof. I had obtained a number of estimates and then, luckily, I found EJS roofing on Angie's List. The estimates I had received from other roofers were much higher than the one from EJS. Furthermore, these other companies did not perform the thorough inspection that EJS roofing performed. Finally, these other estimates did not identify all the problem areas of the roof. EJS is amazing. What complicated this roof replacement is that I did not yet own the home. So, I had to negotiate with my broker and the seller's broker to try to get the roof replacement done ASAP. Again Ed, the owner of EJS roofing, was incredible. The situation was a bit of a pain because of the negotiations and because I didn't yet live in Iowa City. Yet Ed remained patient and professional throughout the process. His advice was invaluable and he was incredibly flexible in order to accomodate the difficulties of getting a roof replaced when I didn't yet own the home. Finally, EJS roofing just completed the roof replacement. They did a beautiful job and started and ended as planned. Furthermore, their estimate was completely accurate. If you ever need a roof replaced, or simply need repairs done, you cannot go wrong hiring EJS roofing. Ed and his company are the most professional company I've ever worked with. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

Ed, the owner, came to our house to go over the estimate in person. He was very patient and answered all of our very many questions. He gave us a 10% Angie's List discount on the estimate and even allowed us to lock in the price now for the job to be completed in six months next spring, agreeing that he would eat any cost accrued between now and then. He gave me a quick tutorial on how I could patch the spots on my roof when a couple shingles had blown off. He said, his guys could come do the patching (to hold us over through winter), for $200-$250, but then he also showed me exactly how to do it and what materials I would need so, I could do it myself. Which I did the next Saturday for less than $35. So far we have been very impressed. We signed the estimate and mailed it in. We are now eagerly awaiting the spring when the weather is warm enough to do the re-roofing. We will file another report when the actual work is done.

The best way to describe EJS is Professional from the first moment I called until the job was finished. I did have to leave a message but Ed returned my call in a timely manner. He was on time for the estimate and took accurate measurements. He sat down with my husband and me to explain the process he uses. I was pleased that it could all be done in one day yet concerned about the quality of work with so many people working on the job. He has a strong foreman working on the job from start to finish and the rest of the crew, you could tell, has been working with him a long time. When Ed personally brought over our estimate he left us with a sample book showing the different color shingles we had to choose from. I did change my mind on the color and let Ed know. No problem the order was changed. We were under time constraints because we were changing our home owners insurance company. Ed managed to work us into his schedule in plenty of time to meet our deadline. I had a couple of requests that Ed added to our contract with no additional charge. He also gave us a senior discount on the price! The material was delivered the day before and work started promptly the next morning. Ed was here to introduce us to the foreman and make sure the job was started smoothly. He was back several times to inspect the work as it was being done. Clean-up was great and meticulous. While the work was being inspected I noticed a few places that I didn't find asthetically in sync with the rest of the roof. I really don't know if it would have been a problem to the integrity of the roof. No matter. Within minutes there was someone here who was on the roof fixing the areas I'd pointed out. Ed personally checked with us to make sure we were completely satisfied and we are. He guarantees his work for 10 years! We would strongly recommend EJS if you need a new roof. Besides being the most professional of any of the roofing companies I called, Ed is a nice person and easy to work with!

They did an excellent job. They cleaned up the work area. I have had neighbors admire the work and one neighbor actually hired them as well. They did everything in less than a day and are extremely hard workers. The workers are also very nice to talk to, they are knowledgeable and friendly.

Our experience with EJS was terrific-- first class operation. They were the only contractor we contacted that came out to the house and sat down with us to explain their proposal in detail, including workmanship guarantees and shingle warranties etc. -- everyone else just mailed us estimates. Payment was due upon completion -- no deposits or down payment required. The worker crew arrived on time as scheduled. Tearing off a roof is a messy job, but these guys tarped and covered everything very well and cleaned up extremely well; I think I found ONE roofing nail. They arrived each day on time and worked ALL day (took them a couple days due to some rain). The crew was professional, hard working and very polite. They kept us informed of how the job was going, and were very proactive in getting direction or approvals on specific items (i.e. can we remove the old satellite dish? Can we place a dumpster here? can we move these pots or plants our of the way? etc etc.)-- great on-site customer service. They were polite with the family and kids, and even to my dog who tried "help" them by stealing a lunch or two....(I half expected one of them to nail her to the garage door to keep her out of the way!) I think the best way to judge a company is not when things go right, but when mistakes happen and how they handle those (and there always are one or two); these guys handle those items extremely well, too. They offered to replace a bush that was slightly damaged (we declined-- it was minor and had to be trimmed back anyway) as well as a pane of glass that was broken on an outside light fixture (they have ordered a replacement). In both cases, they brought the items to our attention first (before we discovered), and took care of both. Very professional and customer focused. Their final invoice was exactly as estimated-- no surprises, no hidden fees or charges. We are very pleased with EJS and have already referred them to friends. I would definitely use them in the future.

The overall experience was excellent. Everyone working for this company were very polite which was probably hard to be considering they worked twelve hours in over 100 degree heat in the full sun.

I called this company for an estimate based on the reviews on Angie's List. They made an appointment but did not show, so I did not call them back.

My experience with EJS Roofing has been A+/the best from start to finish. Ed was on time , well prepared, informed , and professional for every meeting. He always got back to me with in 24 hours when I called/ asked for some information. The EJS crew that did the tear off and roofing was outstanding. DJ , the foreman, explained why each time he had to put on the four new 4by 8 plyboard pieces to replace a rotting one or one that had pulled way from the nails and was sagging. He and the crew were also very concerned about protecting our new landscaping /flowers. No damage was done as a result of their extra effort. All the crew members worked very hard and very carefully, taking the time necessary to do an excellent job. I was there observing for the entire two days . I also appreciated the fact that the crew respected one another and got along well. ...no put downs or use of expletive/fowl language....they talked like professionals. An example of their careful work ....The workers had to replace two damaged skylights. I had an expensive sunlight tinting film put on the two new skylights.The EJS workers were extra careful not to touch the fragile film and protected the units all during the installation.... the skylights look perfect!! The EJS workers picked up everything before they left..... including the nails that had fallen. When I paid for the project there were no surprises...I feel like I got more than I expected with the extra efforts and professionalism throughout the project. After the project , ED helped me to understand how to register with the Atlas Shingle company to validate the 20 year non prorated warrantee....and he explained the EJS Roofing would back up their workmanship for 15 years with this 4A rated shingle. His confidence in his workers craftsmanship was impressive. I had my own 3rd party roof inspector come to walk the roof with ED at the end of the project. My roofing inspector said," You've got a great roof." I could not be more pleased with my experience before , during and after the project with EJS roofing. I would not hesitate to recommend EJS Roofing to a family member or friend. In my opinion, EJS roofing could make a strong case for being the best roofer in the Cedar Rapids area.

First, I took several bids, and EJS quoted the best price. In addition, their bid was the most complete and most professional in its presentation. Plus, they took 10% off for Angie's List customers! Second, their communication was excellent. As in all roofing jobs, unforeseen issues arose, but they always called me before proceeding if there was to be an additional expense [e.g. half the roof was over shakes, and they had to re-deck literally half the house. Having been up in my attic, I knew it was a legitimate issue, but because it would add substantially to the base bid, EJS was VERY concerned that I understood the necessity of fixing the problem.] The work was performed in a very timely fashion, and their clean-up afterward was very good. EJS gives you a 10 year warranty on their workmanship. Obviously I won't know for several years how their work will hold up, but I feel very confident because of their professionalism throughout. Highest possible recommendation.

I was extremely happy with the service of EJS Roofing. We had a number of estimates from other companies but overall the professional service that we were given sold us on EJS. They came out to inspect the house the day after I called. He then sent me a very professional package and estimate. When we had a chance to look over the information, we were sold and called them. The company sent out a man to go over what we wanted and to set up the date. They were very prompt. They brought the materials on a Friday. They were to work on Saturday but the rain delayed them until Monday. Monday morning they were out early and they had the house done by 5:00 PM that evening. The crew were professional and curteous. The house looks great and I am very pleased with their work. I would not only hire them again but I would and already have reccommended them to others. Thank you EJS.

They made a very professional presentation of all the options we had, and went through exactly what would happen step by step. Their estimate was as low as everyone else's (I got three estimates). They did indicate the job would last one day. It lasted three days. For some reason this surprised me (don't all construction projects take more time than they say?), and irritated me a lot. I didn't like having to park on the street for three days. The workers they hired also left all gates to my back yard open. So when I came home I brought my dogs through one gate and closed it behind, only to have one of them go out through the other gate. So I had to chase her down the block. They cleaned things up as good as new, so no complaints there.

All the other companies came out were probably the most thorough and we interviewed 5 different roofing companies. EJS Roofing was the most thorough and professional company. They were very honest and very upfront. That's the reason why we picked them. The price was in the in the ball park; so it was reasonable. In terms of price, they were right there with the rest of the companies. We would use them in the future.

I expect a lot from my service providers, and EJS Roofing exceeded my expectations. It took weeks getting estimates from 2 other roofing companies, EJS came out the next morning. Their bid was 15%-30% less than competitors. They scheduled with almost no wait, and did the work exactly when scheduled. Top of the line materials. Their crew was professional and incredibly hard working. Clean up was immaculate. Charge matched the estimate exactly. They are easy to reach and eager to please. In short: EJS Roofing is golden.
