Response from David's Custom Roofing & Painting, Inc.
This customer contacted our office for an estimate to complete carpentry work: drywall, paint and install base boards. When DCR contacted her she informed us of her situation; another contractor started the repairs and was not able to finish the work. The other contractor was going to charge her $300.00 for the repairs and she felt we could complete the work for the same price. Our estimator called and left a message to inform her that we could not match her price and to call us back to negotiate the pricing or explain that a "handy-man" may be better suited for the scope of work at a lower price. DCR tried our best to work with this customer, but we did not receive any returned calls or responses and we could not do the scope of work for the price requested.

Description of Work: David's Custom Roofing is very good. The job entailed removing deteriorated materials of my roofs facade and they went above and beyond to get the job completed. They were very professional and thorough in performing their services. I highly recommend them and would definetly use them for my next roofing project.

Description of Work: I called them to review and fix a leak in the roof which they had installed 6 years ago. At first they said "okay', then about a week later they sent a workman around to say that they would not do anything. I called David and he came by, but he submitted an estimate that was much higher than others that I had received. Also the roofers who did come by, made all kinds of assertions about the workmanship of the original roof installation

We tried our best to correct the problem, but it was not a roof problem. We went back many times to help him find the leak, and the owner was aware it was the wall not the roof that was leaking.

Daves was recommended by the solar voltaic contractor for purchase of work and materials as well as coordination. Contacted Daves and met with sales person who provided us with a large number of choices for the new roof. Once we decisions were made the work was scheduled as well as both photovoltaic and solar water contractor phasing. The workers arrived on the scheduled date, after confirmation of work a couple of days earlier by Daves. All work was completed as well as clean up as anticipated. The cost was a little higher than some of the other bids but we are very happy with the outcomes.
Description of Work: Removed existing shingles and replaced with new asphalt shingles. Provided coordination with solar water heater contractor to remove and replace panels. Coordinated with photovoltaic contractor for installation of photovoltaic panels and provided for warranty of roofing after panel installation.

Had to have my house re-roofed. Old shingles were a little over 20 years old. Called for an estimate. Estimator came out and measured my roof and asked what roofing materials I had in mind. Spoke to him about the shingles that I was interested in. He gave me additional information about my choice of shingles. We also discussed other aspects of the work that another company's estimator had discussed with me. The estimator was of course very knowledgeable and answered my concerns to my satisfaction. He asked if I had a color in mind and I told him that my wife makes all color decisions (I'm no fool.). He told me that if I awarded them the job, he would come to my house again and bring the samples so my wife could choose the color. He left after telling me that the written estimate would be sent from the company in a day or two. So I had asked for 3 estimates from 3 different contractors. One a father and son small business, the other a large local roofing company, and of course David's. Received a verbal estimate from the father and son business for about $15,000 and they were rated well by the BBB. But when I checked their licensing status, theirs was not active. I am not sure what your insurance status would be with an expired license so I turned down the offer. To me, roofing work is high risk so I want to be 100% sure that proper insurance is in place. Called the large roofing company and left 3 messages for the estimator, but never got a call back. Maybe they are busy with too many jobs or larger ones. David's came out with an estimate that included all the things that the other roofing company had mentioned plus a couple of others that I did not even think of. That plus they were cheaper than the smaller company that I had rejected. They were booked 3 weeks out and since I had no current leaks, there was no rush. Accepted the estimate and gave them the job. The week before the job was to start, they let me know that due to poor weather on current jobs, they had to slip mine another week. No problem I said but they needed to do the job on the newly proposed week because I had a solar PV system install scheduled the next week. They assured me that they would hold to that date. They came out on the revised date. I was at work as they said I did not have to be home while they roofed. I got a call at work that morning from the work leader asking me about the ridge vent. He said that the ridge vent and the solar vent fans interfered with each other. I asked him which gave better ventilation. His opinion was that the ridge vents were better. So I told him to remove the vent fans and put them on the back patio. Because they had to now remove the fans and install some new plywood where the fans were removed, it slowed the job. What was to be a one day job, turned into a 2 day job (plus a partial 3rd day because they ran out of shingles - only about 10 square feet). With everything installed, the house is cooler that it was before so the combination of the ridge vents and the solar reflective shingles is better than the solar vent fans. All in all, I really like the work that they did. The price was very reasonable. The job is very nice with good craftsmanship. I have seen other houses where the job did not include tear-off of the existing first layer (just like my house) and you can see the double layer. David's strips back the old shingles from the edge so all you see when you look at the roof is a single layer. It is just aesthetics, but it does look nicer. Pride in workmanship. A bit of advice for any re-roofing that you do (and David's has this warning in their estimate). When people walk on your roof, they flex the plywood that is the base for the roof. If your garage does not have a ceiling, move your cars out or cover them during the re-roofing. The dust and small splinters that will fall in your garage will fall on your car. Not enough to damage usually, but enough for you to have to clean off your car. Be careful while removing the debris so you don't scratch your paint. I do not know what happens in a house with open beam ceilings but the effects may be similar. So in the end, the answer is Yes. I would recommend David's Custom Roofing Inc. to friends and family.
Description of Work: Had to have my house re-roofed. Old shingles were a little over 20 years old. Called for an estimate. Job entailed re-roofing with new composite solar reflective shingles. No tear off of existing shingles as I only had one layer on (original construction). Ridge vents, weaving of shingles in the valleys where roof planes meet, drip edge install. Removal of solar attic vent fans.

Their services were good and I would recommend them to others. They are a bit pricey and expensive. I would definitely use them again in the future if needed.
