It was a horrible experience to say at least. They cut through the service, the Project manager I only saw him once and they did horrible work. The guy that did, the subcontractor that works for them, did a horrible work. I wouldn't use Angie's agenda to have contractor work.
Description of Work: I had use Romanoff Renovations. I used them for the last three months. They replaced a few windows, a little roof work. They were supposed to fix my tub and they did. It was $370 and some change.

Response from Romanoff Renovations
Mr. [member name removed], we are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience with our company. As you are aware, as your job neared completion, one of the final nails for the window caused the glass to crack. Reordering the window caused some delay, which we understand was frustrating. However, upon completion of this work, we got the impression that you were very happy with the installation and there was no mention of a leak in the roof. As soon as the leak was brought to our attention, we offered to correct the issue, which was declined, so we immediately provided a complete refund for that portion of the work, as discussed in our face-to-face meeting about what had transpired with the project. We recognize that this project had its bumps, and wish such had not been the case, but we did stand by our work and addressed both issues immediately.

The company treated us very professionally. The contractors they used were all very punctual and willing to help get the project done in a quick time and fix anything that came up along the way. Their project manager, Tom P, was great to work with and constantly came on site and phoned to check up on progress and if were happy with the progress and results. There was one issue that we were not happy with the finishing, but Tom coordinated with his people to get it fixed promptly and to our satisfaction. I would recommend Affordable to friends and family in the future.

I made an appointment over a week ago through Home Depot for them to come out and take measurements to provide a quote for a bathroom remodel. Although the appointment was schedule a while out I was fine with it and spoke with Angie when I made the appointment for tomorrow - 4/2/13. Today I get a call from Janet to confirm and that is where it all went downhill. We had a fairly heated discussion about how the person measuring will just leave if only one of us were here as she doesn't deal with appointments where one man is there - implying a completely offensive possibility that I would be taking advantage of her I guess. Then I ask why my partner would need to be there and as she starts to explain more it gets worse and she doesn't know what to do. She explains that a two legged appointment is required - meaning two people - I understand that their chances of selling is greater with both owners here but what if I were a single owner...I couldn't use them I guess? But no - she goes on to explain that they require a man and woman to be there and then I explain that she should go ahead and cancel the appointment because that isn't going to happen as I have a partner and am gay. That stops all conversation and Janet doesn't know what to say and asks to call me back. She does and says that it isn't a problem and apologizes for possibly offending me. She indicated that if only one of us were present that would be fine and that we will keep the appointment. I'm too bothered by the whole conversation at that point and say okay and we end the conversation amicably. So... bottom line is that they want all the decision makers (usually husband and wife) present so they can hard close you on making a purchase. If you don't have a husband or wife, PREPARE TO BE OFFENDED! After discussing with my partner - we decided to cancel the appointment and just continue searching for a contractor for our remodeling needs. Update: I did receive a phone call and discussed this issue with a very apologetic manager. Also a few days later we did receive a $25 gift card to Home Depot via US Mail. We have since also received several voice-mail messages asking if we'd like to reschedule our appointment but have chosen not to do so.

[member name removed], Please accept our most sincere apologies for your experience today. Our company's values are to always Do The Right Thing: Listen, Show Respect for All, Give Back and Commit to Excellence. Clearly, we fell short on living by our values in this exchange. We will be working with the individual you spoke with to assure that our customers are always given proper respect in the future. You are correct that we do request that all decision makers for a home attend our consultations. This is because there are numerous decisions made during the consultation - everything from selecting colors and materials to reviewing any structural changes necessary to achieve your desired outcome. At the end of the consultation, we provide an exact quote based on those selections, so it's best that both home decision makers participate in these decisions. However, this is a request and not a requirement to receive your free consultation. There are some consultants who, for their protection, prefer not to meet with a man alone in his home. This was the case with the consultant we had scheduled for your appointment, though this should have been explained better. However, we can certainly still accommodate single male homeowners, or those wishing to meet without their partners, by selecting a consultant who does not have these concerns, which is what should have been done here. All of this information should have been presented to you in a better manner. We believe that ALL customers deserve exemplary service, so please know that we will take immediate action to prevent such experiences for future customers. Thank you for providing this feedback.

Whilst browsing through our local Home Depot store looking for ideas to update our master bathroom the salesperson suggested that we use their design service to get some ideas/costs of the remodel. We were not looking to rip out the whole bathroom (house built 1995) but rather to update the look by installing, e.g., frame-less shower doors, solid surface/granite vanity units, new sinks and replace all the existing brass fittings with a more modern finish. We had budgeted around $4,000. Chas, the 'sales associate" (certainly not a "designer") from Affordable Contracting - The Remodelling Experts, arrived punctually and was at pains to point out his affiliation with Home Depot. Unfortunately, he seemed to lose interest in our project the moment I gave him an indication of our budget spend. Taking a few seconds to measure our shower doors (45" x 72") he threw out a figure of $2,650 to install a frame-less shower door and fit new shower trim of which, $500 was for the shower trim). Another few seconds were taken with telling us that granite counter-tops would cost us approximately $3,000 for two vanities units (22"x72") - he at least made a suggestion that granite was the "preferred" material. He then left. Since his visit we have received an estimate for - and had fitted -a set of frame-less shower doors (fitted by D'Sapone, an "A" rated Angies List installer" at a cost of $1,100. Additionally, the Installer fitted our new Moen shower trim as a courtesy. We have also had estimates for installing high quality granite vanity tops for around $1.800. How do they call themselves "AFFORDABLE CONTRACTING" ?

[Member name removed], we apologize that the consultation did not meet your complete satisfaction and appreciate your feedback. As The Home Depot's provider of bathroom remodeling, we always strive to provide our customers with solid customer service. If you have questions that were not answered during your consultation, regardless of who you select as your provider, Chas would be happy to answer them. Regarding your quote, we’d like to take a moment to address why our price may sometimes seem to come in higher than that of other vendors, but in the long-run, can save you money and help you avoid a renovation nightmare. 1) Our quote is firm and includes all facets of construction work, including project management (saving you time/hassle/the chance of getting the wrong advice from a contractor, etc), material selection (whereas when you go store to store to purchase materials yourself you may not always get the proper size or item), and pulling all necessary permits. 2) Our work is backed by a Home Depot warranty and guarantee of your complete satisfaction, giving you assurance of quality. We don't use any "builder's grade" materials, or take take any of the shortcuts in craftsmanship that can cause your home major, costly issues in the future. 3) There are no unexpected “add-on” charges to complete the project, which many homeowners are asked to pay half way into the work being done when they are at the mercy of the contractor. Your quote is a fixed amount from start to finish. 4) You have assurance that we won’t disappear midway through your project. The Home Depot isn't going anywhere. 5) All of our contractors are badged and licensed, giving you assurance of safety of those who will be in your home, and confidence that all labor laws are being met. While it is true that you may be able to have components of a project completed by using a collection of independent vendors, it is quite possible that the savings you expect to incur may dwindle down if your project doesn’t go smoothly or the work is not of good quality. (We are not suggesting that the vendor you mentioned falls into this category.) [member name removed], bottom line is that we want you to have a successful project. To that end, we have provided a list of questions that you may wish to inquire about when selecting your vendors that we hope will prove helpful to you. Does your quote include: 1. Pulling the required permits? 2. All necessary demoing? 3. Hauling away demo waste? 4. Providing and installing all new materials for the job? 5. Removing and reinstalling _____. (The toilet, the mirror above the vanity, the lighting, etc.)? 6. Providing and installing all sink bowls and hooking up plumbing underneath sink? 7. Removing current faucet and either reinstalling it or installing new one? Good luck with your remodel!

Bryan was on time and polite. He basically showed me only ONE OPTION for a shower replacement. No change in plumbing except the fixtures- didn't even talk about that. When I asked the price of the shower, he could only give me the complete package deal price- no itemizing. I had a picture and price of a shower I had found, and still the price was the same package deal. He quoted me $6700. for just the replacement!! I could get a whole bathroom tiled plus more for that price. He basically said I was paying for a lifetime guarantee. Not an Affordable Contractor to me! Will continue to get estimates...

Mike was very polite and responsive. He scheduled an estimate for me the next day and was early for his appointment. Mike was very professional as he discussed the job with me and emailed me a thorough estimate the next morning. The estimate was about what I expected, cost wise. We had a leak in the line running to our ice maker which has caused wide spread damage to the hard woods, sub floors, cabinets, carpet and drywall. I am still in the process of gathering bids for the job, but would definitely recommend Affordable Contracting based on this experience.

I found this company on Angie's List and after reading the reviews chose to work with them and was initially impressed. Began contact with Chris who was very personable and spent more than four hours overall viewing my townhouse and going over my ideas and planning for the remodel. I was so excited and felt great about my decision to use this company! My "project manager was assigned came to meet me and view my place and was here for 20 min?? - should have been a sign!!! Just so you know Aff does all the bathroom renovations in Georgia for Home Depot and just acquired Romanoff Flooring( hope I'm spelling that right) but due to this merger there are ALOT of miscommunication and scheduling issues. I was continually apologized to regarding these problems but as a customer spending "only" $24,000 that shouldn't be MY problem that they are really busy and restructuring their company! ( I had to contact "upper" management to replace my "project manager" after little communication and days when little or no work was being done). I had to move out of my house and pay $2500 for one month in a corporate apartment and though I realize there are always delays during any construction, I was on a time table to at least be able to sleep in my house within one month of the start of the remodel. ( I chose the cabinets for my bar in December to ensure they would be ordered and ready when work began January 24 and didn't receive them until late March because "someone forgot to order them" - and they were the WRONG ones when they finally came in- bar & cabinets were finally built and installed in mid April - 3 months after work initially began!!!). The day before I moved back in I was waiting for the "cleaning crew" to arrive and then was told the builder was the cleaning crew! My mom swept and mopped for two hours- no one else! I was told all furniture left would be covered( I had placed most of my house in storage except for the large furniture) and had planned to purchase heavy duty covers but was told it was not necessary because they would do it but this was not done so beware especially if you are leaving electronics. ( I had placed four flat screen TVs in the bathrooms which were not being renovated and asked that the bathroom doors stay closed as to avoid extra sheet rock dust and this was completely ignored thus layers and layers of sheet rock in all my electronics). The shining star of this experience was John who is amazing and does superior work! He did all the demo and building and had great ideas for what I wanted. If you use Aff definitely ask for him! ( I have his number for any future work I want and he can do anything- lighting, plumbing, building, etc). The painters assigned to my remodel were fabulous too- I've never seen such thorough painting! Jamie ( who installed the bar/cabinets ) is great too. This company has some wonderful sub contractors and the result is superb- the issues I have are with the management of the company not the work! I got really tired of hearing "I came in late in this project" ( after I had to replace my first project manager for lack of communication) and " we're just really busy / restructuring due to acquiring Romanoff"- my money and time should be just as important!!! ( another example - light installed on 2/24 didn't work and was not corrected until I told them I would not remit payment until it was fixed and of course he then came right away... On 4/29 -2 months after installing!) Overall, I am pleased with the remodel- like I said the work is superb but not the customer service side of the experience. I would not use this company again but definitely use the independent contractors who I met for any future work. My advice to Aff would be to work on their organization and management issues because their work is wonderful but unfortunately those problems overshadow any recommendation I would give to my friends or family in the future.
Description of Work: I hired Aff to knock out a wall and closet in the downstairs of my town home and build a bar which opened up the room. They built a storage area under the stairs and replaced all the wooden shelves in the existing closets with new wire shelving. Existing built in bookshelf was knocked out and framed out to place tv cabinet inside- ( John's idea- he's great!). New paint thru out the house( except for the kitchen and bathrooms). New carpet upstairs. Wall knocked out between master and extra bedrooms to create a master closet- including new wire shelving and pocket doors. New rail installed in stairway and new lighting installed thru out the house including 2 new ceiling fans. New light switches also installed. Crown moulding in extra bedroom too. .

I was recommended this company by the Home Depot. I was contacted timely by the scheduler and the company's representative was timely in meeting my husband and I with the samples. I was told that I had to select and purchase materials only through the Home Depot but was informed later that I could have chosen my own materials. My decor style is more contemporary/modern than traditional. With that said, the company and the installers worked with me and my husband so that we were satisfied and received outstanding results. The installers were knowledgeable, professional, clean, respectful, and animal friendly. My Jack Russell Terrier looked forward to greeting them daily. The entire project was scheduled for approximate five days but it took just a little longer. After seeing the end results of the guest bathroom, I think it was worth the wait. Also when I had concerns, the Project Manager and the Production Manager were on site immediately, therefore, eased my concerns. They were so respectful and accommodating and made sure that I was very pleased with the job. Again, I think they have the best installers in Atlanta, GA, and I would recommend Affordable to anyone who needs a bathroom remodel or just an update.
Description of Work: The company renovated a hall guest bathroom (5 x 8) to remove an outdated bathtub to replace with a walk-in shower, toilet, sink, faucet and shower fixtures, mirror, painted, and replaced the bathroom light. In addition in the master bathroom, the company fixed a minor leak near the shower fixture, replaced porcelain tiles and fixtures, and installed a frameless shower glass enclosure.

In doing the estimate for the kitchen, I did break down all the pricing for the customer as he had asked for. When it came to choosing the type of cabinetry he wanted, I told him to go to the legacey cabinet web-site to get some ideas of what he would like his cabinetry to resemble or match and I would then bring over some samples for him to choose from. I have called the homeowner back on two occasions and have yet to recieve a call back from him. I would still like to do the job for the homeowner. Please call me back. Chris

I had a little bit of an emergency with my master bedroom toilet leaking and damaging floor and subfloor. I called for an estimate and since I do not work and it is an emergency I wanted to meet with the estimator. I was told by the scheduler that both my husband and I would had to be in attendance at the time the estimator came to my house. This is impossible since my husband does not get home from work until late in the evening. The scheduler flatly refused to schedule an estimate until my husbnd could attend, which is impossible. How insulting!!

We, Affordable Contracting, have developed a unique presentation style for homeowners and decision makers to participate in that helps the tedious process of remodeling a room in your home. This style is convenient and can all be handled with one meeting. This meeting typically last 1-2 hours and is a "shopping experience" for all decision makers. We explain at the time of scheduling the appointment the importance of everyone involved in the project (design to financial) to be present at this detailed consultation. With all of this said, we do understand that all decision makers can have opposite schedules and it can be very difficult to arrange a time for everyone to meet. Affordable Contracting will most certainly meet with one decision maker and never refuses to meet with anyone. For this particular situation, our scheduling specialist misunderstood the project and had assumed the project was for a remodel consultation, this type of consultation would be best to schedule with all decision makers. However, after reading your report, I understand your frustrations -- with this being an emergency situation that would involve a quick turnaround this appointment would have not needed all decision makers present. After reading this review I, Jessica - Call Center Manager, immediately reached out to Member to apologize and to further explain our process and where there had been a misunderstanding. When I called yesterday (9/18/2012) afternoon the customer did not answer nor did she have a voicemail. I called again yesterday evening (9/18/2012) and was able to speak to Member to apologize and explain what had happened - we lost our phone connection. After losing connection I reached out to Member two more times and failed to ever regain a connection, the customer had picked up the phone, however, I never was able to speak with anyone and the connection was lost both times. In closing, please know that our company is a great and reliable company to work with. We value our relationships with our clients and take customer satisfaction very seriously -- We apologize for any miscommunication on our part and would love to have the opportunity to work with you.

The project started off great with the initial consultation and design process, their design specialist gave me some great ideas and provided some good guidance. Once they started work they completed their part of the job quickly, which allowed me the time I needed to perform other work. As a whole they were very committed to my satisfaction and to getting the job done properly. The only downside was that it took a little long for my new cabinet to come in than I would have liked, but a big deal.
Description of Work: In the first week of May 2012 I contracted Affordable to come in and cut down two walls to half height, prep them for counter installation and painting, Install new lighting, install one new 30x30 inch cabinet, move one over head cabinet and install an over the range microwave.

I contacted Affordable to provide an estimate for the tiling of a bathroom floor and shower, installation/replacement of light fixtures, and installation of new bathroom countertop. The representative was punctual, professional, and friendly. They install ceramic tile, but the rep showed us samples of an acrylic-type material, which did not suit my taste. He provided an estimate on the spot, and I was shocked that the final price was 3 times the cost of my lowest bid. I actually showed him the lower bid, and he told me that he did not know how the other bidder was able to complete the job for such a low cost. Out of 6 estimates I obtained, Affordable's was the highest by THOUSANDS. BTW, the professional I retained DID complete the work at 1/3 the price of Affordable's--the tile job was beautiful and the work crew was experienced and professional.

I purchased the shower door from Home Depot (which is a painful experience at the Ellenwood Home Depot--unprofessional, unknowledgeable bunch). I paid for installation of the shower door by a Home Depot contractor, which was Affordable Contracting. The sales rep was friendly and helpful, and the 2-person crew dispatched completed the job quickly and expertly. I do believe the price charged by Home Depot/Affordable is a bit high ($250 to install a $300 door). Affordable charges an extra $75 if they pick up the door from Home Depot. To be fair, I don't know if this price is set by Home Depot or the contractor, but I've had $1000 doors installed by Home Depot that took 5 hours to complete and I was charged less.

Of all the people I have recommended I am most thrilled with Affordable Contracting. They are remodeling experts. They were very helpful with the challenges of a handicapped bathroom. Chris King was the man that did everything by himself and he was fantastic. He is the best guy that we ever had do any remodeling for us ever. We also used this company for our kitchen remodel and we were pleased with that as well.
Description of Work: They did a bathroom remodel which included replacing the shower, removing a tub, moving the toilet, and replacing the cabinetry and sinks.

They were fast, efficient, professional & friendly. The finished result of my floors looked outstanding! I'd definitely work with them again...
Description of Work: I had only moved into my new home a few days before I contacted affordable housing on a Feb 13th 2012 about getting laminent wood flooring installed. They sent Mike out to my home, Feb 15th to survey what I wanted done. He took the measurements which came out to be 732 sq ft & showed me samples of the laminent wood flooring. I chose the sample I wanted & he then quoted me the price of $6,066 to complete the installation. This included ripping up/ disposing of the carpet, padding the floor, & laminent wood installation. I was fine with the price, but was more concerned about the timeframe in which they could get it done. I had furniture to be delivered during the week & wanted to get it done before then. They told me they could get it done over the weekend, beginning Feb 17th which was the friday of the same week! 2 guys showed up around noon & the ripped up the carpet, padded the floor & installed the flooring. By 7PM they were d*** near done, except for the fact that they ran out of wood! Maybe about 4 or 5 planks tops. No biggie, they returned the following monday with the rest of the material & finished the job.

We first met with Lance, Tom and one of their designers in December. Demolition began on schedule January 23rd, and our bathroom was finished within the 2 week time frame that we were given. There were no hidden surprises from this company, everyone was upfront with what we should expect and very professional, as well as personable(from the workers on site to the ladies in the office). Never while our home was occupied by workers did any of us feel out of place, and at times there are 7 of us living here. We have a house full of playful dogs (4), and after introducing them to the workers, they too were able to still feel at home. From Lance to the painters our pets were comfortable, and pets know good people. The workers worked the entire time they were in our home, at times they were so intent with their work that we would forget who was here. The project manager was onsite everyday and made himself available to us by phone if needed. As stated above our bathroom was finished on schedule. We had two concerns after the first use of the shower, contacted them the next day to let them know and they scheduled a time to come out. They were out the next day (Lance included) and the problems were taken care of. We are very pleased with our experience with Affordable Contracting, and would use them again for home repairs.
Description of Work: Complete demolition and master bath remodel.

Their was some confusion on the administrative end which held them up due to an incorrect estimate of how many people that were needed to do the job. They did quality work however.
Description of Work: This was for renovation of my home. They installed all the wood in the home. This was only for labor and no prepping or materials.

We have used Affordable Contracting, Inc Company in the past and they did a very good job. We looked at them doing a deck for us and they were more expensive. We also looked at them redoing our bathrooms and they were more expensive. My interaction with them went very well. We had no problems with them at all. I just had a problem with their pricing. They were very professional. I would absolutely use them to get another quote in the future.
Description of Work: I last used Affordable Contracting, Inc Company for a quote about a year ago. We wanted to get a quote for remodeling the bathrooms and changing walls out for a larger closets and similar internal remodeling work.
