Description of Work: Over a week after contact...still no appointment. This is the 3rd contractor that has either ignored my contact, or just not showed up after making the appointment. Why is it so hard to give people your money? I just don't get it. Angie's List should add a field for "no show" or "no response".

High Praise. On a scale of 1-10 they are a 10. They have exceeded all expectations. Came out 3 times before the actual work began. They are very knowledgeable and professional. They are a joy to work with. they are very conscientious about keeping the dust down and cleaning up their work. They go that extra mile and I would recommend them to anybody and everybody. Very much into planning and details before the work begins.

Mr. Lance Smith, owner of Affordable Contracting did an excellent renovation on my entire kitchen. The work was done on time and the most impressive part was that Mr. Smith sat down on the first appointment and sketched out what I wanted and then with his ideas of how we could keep on budget by recycling the cabinets that were being removed and incorporate into the overall new design was just so considerate and the carpenter , and other workers performance just more than I imagined. Every time I met with Mr. Smith, he was on time and never rushed through any concern that I had. If I was near running over budget, he would consult with me and offer alternatives. The project was a pleasant experience overall and my kitchen exceeded my expectations. Above all - I just called this company from an add in the Douglasville magazine - no references or anything. That was a huge chance to take, but when I meet Mr. Smith and after our first meeting I trusted him and at the end of my renovation I can truly say that he runs an honest business and will bend over backwards to make certain you are pleased with his company's work. He has an excellent business and I am so happy that I found him. He kept to the budget and I was fortunate to have given his company a try. His standards and honesty are almost unheard of these days. My kitchen is a dream and I've not had him to return to redo or fix anything. Everything was done right the first time.
Description of Work: Complete Kitchen renovation. Cabinets, painting, tiles, granite counter tops, lighting, new appliances.

They were doing the work for Home Depot. Everything went wrong at first and they had to redo a lot of the work. They installed a shower kit and broke the shower pan twice, did not caulk correctly after installing the shower kit, did not plumb it properly and did not seal the floor properly. Every sub they used told me they had not done the work they were doing in my home before. They ended up getting everything done really well after Home Depot's district manager stepped in and got them going. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: They were remodeling a full bath and a half bath.

As you may recall, I met with you and addressed all of your concerns, gave you a $500.00 gift card for any inconveniences and took care of all the punch list items. Our office called to make sure you were completely satisfied and you confirmed your satisfaction with our office staff. A few of the things you stated above were not ever brought to my attention during my visit at your home. I don't think this is the appropriate forum to discuss, you are more than welcome to call and speak with me to discuss these items further. Lance Smith, Owner

They had been referred to us by Home Depot for the project. They asked when both my husband and I were available for the appointment. I explained that I was the person making the decisions on this project and that my husband was not available. As the scheduling person kept insisting that they could not come out unless we were both here no matter who was making the decisions on this project. I asked to speak to a supervisor as this was very unusual. She said that they only meet with both owners so all decisions could be made at the time of the appointment. I again explained that I was the person with the construction experience and that I would making the decisions. I was told that then they could not work with just me. Since I have been the general contractor on several remodeling projects both at family member's homes and our house plus just recently finished our kitchen I was shocked at this policy. I again asked to speak to someone else and was told that wasn't possible. This was a major red flag in my book. If I was having this much trouble scheduling an appointment I could just vision what working on a project with this company would be. I talked to the Manager of the Home Depot to let them know why I would not be purchasing the planned materials and working through them on this project. He contacted the Area General Manager and reported this reaction by Affordable Contracting.
Description of Work: When they contacted me to set up appoint for estimate I explained what we needed to do in the bathroom. The shower needed all the tile and glass removed, shower pan removed and additional tile on floor and tub surround replaced to match.

I spoke with our call center staff and they explained that you did speak with a call center agent and then with our call center manager. Both the agent and the manager explained to you that our request was not an insult to you. You may have very well been the person that we worked with on a daily basis and we would have gladly worked with you and reported to you on a daily basis. I wish it were not so had to understand that we request that all decision makers be present for the in home consultation only because we have very closely monitored our sales success on consultations with both decision makers present and one decision maker present. We are 100 times as likely to sell our service to you when both you and your husband are together than when with one or you. Why.....because typically in a joint relationship both parties make large financial decisions together and this can not be done if only one person is present. If we as a company are providing a free in home estimate that consumes 2-4 hours we respectfully make the request that a decision can be made at that time. If both of you are undecided for any reason at that time, we leave an estimate with you and follow up. I know that if you were the owner of this business you would make the same request. If we went on every lead that we get with one spouse present, then our overhead costs would climb. Why....because we run more appointments resulting in less work and more travel expenditures. We have to have staff in our office calling every client back over and over increasing overhead. And thirdly, most clients really do like the presentation and are able to make a decision and either move forward or not move forward. They are decided after the first consultation. In our surveys from those clients that did work with us, they stated that the approach to our consultations eliminated them having to try and explain what was estimated to their spouse, it allowed both to ask questions while present together allowing no confusion, improved job installation because of better communication at the sales appointment and although everyone agreed that it is a bit inconvenient to get both spouses together for the sales appointment they felt like the actual appointment took far less time than if they the days it takes to back and forth investigating and asking questions. Basically, one meeting simplifies everything. I hope all of this makes some sense to you and anyone else reading this review. We are not attempting to Inconvenience anyone. We are really trying to make it better for everyone. Thank you so much and we hope that we get a second chance in the future.

They were one of the 3 companies that I evaluated for doing some remodeling and I did not choose them. I thought their quote was out of line with the others. They quoted me $15000.00 to do something that 2 other better rated firms quoted me lower prices. There was a significant difference. I had used them years ago for another bathroom. I was pleased with the work, but I think I was overcharged for that. I didn't know as much as I do now. This quote was way out of line with the other 2 quotes. I liked the work that they did on my previous job, but I think they overcharged. That's what I didn't like about them. I felt that their estimate for this job was way out of balance. When I told the guy that I was getting 2 other quotes, he told me that if I was getting somebody out of a truck, it was going to be lower. When I told him that I am going to 2 other people that were very highly regarded on Angie's List, I never heard back from them. The good thing about them was that for the previous job I got them through the home improvement store so I was able to finance it through the home improvement store. They never called me back which I think made me realize that he knew he was overcharging or overquoting. I had good and bad experiences with them. I don't consider it very professional to overcharge and then belittle about my getting other estimates. I don't think they were professional.
Description of Work: Affordable Contracting gave a quote to redo a bathroom which involved tearing down a non-load bearing wall, replacing the tub with a shower, putting in new flooring, new vanity, and toilet, and painting.

We thank you for the opportunity to have provided an estimate for your second bathroom remodel. I am glad to hear that you were very pleased with the first remodel. We apologize that we were higher than the other two bids that you received. It is impossible to know exactly why without seeing the bids and comparing apples to apples. I will be glad to meet with you and review the other estimates at your convenience. We find that we are very competitive with other remodeling companies of similar size and make up. We know that we are not the cheapest company out there, but our work is second to none in the industry. Again, our pricing is fair and very Affordable for the level of service that we provide.
I purchased my condo on 8/1/2005. It was in original condition so they came out and gave a bid to enlarge a closet, remove/repair a wall that had mirror on it, and install hardwood flooring. They finished on time and in budget. FURTHER, the next summer, after a water heater leak, they ripped up and reinstalled my hardwood floors in record time and cost. They were excellent.
Description of Work: Lance and his team remodeled my condominium. From moving walls (closet) and replacing damaged walls to installing hardwood flooring throughout, they were efficient and affordable.
