John did an excellent job replacing the faucets, drains, shower heads, and valves in 2 showers. He showed up on time and performed quality work. He is very professional, a pleasure to work with, and we will definitely refer him to our friends. We are completely satisfied with the work that he did for us, and already have him scheduled for another home improvement project.

They were prompt, and he has done a follow up but I do not know if I would be using him. But as far as his quoting process it was good. He broke down the estimate into different things according to the job and it probably went up to $15000 or maybe more. He was punctual, he was knowledgeable and his responsive was good. He got back maybe in 3 days but it did not take longer than that. He followed up to make sure that I got the quote and I thought that was a good thing.

Color me impressed. John and crew executed exactly to schedule. Communications were timely and to the point. I knew I was dealing with a professional. It was extremely important that the construction mess be kept to a minimum and my expectations were more than exceeded especially considering that dry wall sanding was involved. The job was not inexpensive but you get what you pay for... extreme professionalism! High recommended.
Description of Work: The task was to install an owner provided corner shower and shower valve in a historic (circa 1905) Savannah condo. This entailed opening the wall and floor to reconfigure drain and supply lines; install shower valve, close floor and wall, install shower unit surround and pan, patch in drywall, baseboard and wainscotting, paint walls, ceiling and trim. The property is a vacation rental property and it was vital that the job be executed exactly to schedule as we had a guest scheduled to arrive the day after the targeted completion date.

Description of Work: Re-roofed my front porch. Replaced structural beams rotted by roof leak. Replaced exterior dental molding trim on the front of the porch. Replaced several rotted tongue and groove boards in the sealing of my porch. Put it all back together and painted it. Also, scaled iron columns and repainted them on the front porch.

It took 3 tries, due to unsatisfactory failure of door manufacturer, to deliver a quality product. The first set of french doors, were cut in the factory so poorly, the bottom of the doors were raggedy. The second set of doors were cut worse than the first set and damaged on the truck. Finally the third set of doors were delivered as slabs and the contractor cut the doors on site, reset the glass panels and installed the doors. They installed the retractable french door screen & replaced the interior door trim & painted. They did a great job repairing stucco dents & cracks and painted. John Horton is definitely a contractor with a conscience & integrity. He was as disappointed as I was with the condition of the exterior french door. He contacted the manufacturer and made arrangements for replacement.

I truly thought that I was going to have to replace the entire shower as it was original to the house (1960). The faucets were contstantly leaking and I was told by a former contractor who had done work in my house in the past, that the entire shower wall of tiles would have to be removed to access the plumbing. John came by to give me a estimate and I was pleasantly surprised when he told me that he could repair the plumbing without removing all the tiles and that is exactly what he did. He also refloored the shower. John also had his crew adjust some cabinet doors which had been installed incorrectly at no charge. John checked in on his crews work regularly and the price point was very fair. The finished product is better than I hoped for. He is the best! I will definitely use his services again.

John climbed up into our sky-high mouse maze of an attic and discovered, much to our relief, that the drain to the upstairs air-conditioning had become blocked. He removed the blockage and then advised us on what might need to be done to repair any cosmetic damage to the ceiling (lucky us, virtually nothing because he came in time!). The thing is he put our desperation in front of his own desire to get home to his family and HE DID NOT CHARGE US! Do not expect this but just understand what an upstanding guy this is and how few there are like this out there.
Description of Work: We have known John for very nearly 3 years now. He skillfully salvaged our original project when the former contractor would not fulfill his contact and he did it very quickly, saving us time, money and stress that only folks who are rehabbing an old house from a distance (Ohio) can experience. Just yesterday, he came to us at a minutes notice when I realized our upstair ceiling was leaking(!).

John showed promptly at the appointed time and took measurements of the area, obtained a scope of work and explained what work would be required. He noted that all drywall cracks and fissures would be repaired during the work and electrical, plumbing, and air conditioning ducting would be relocated. He noted that he has done work like this before and the job would take approximately one week's time. I received an estimate in approximately one month, only due to a miscommunication of my email address. After some additional estimates, it was decided to not remove the wall, but rather use the funds elsewhere in the home for other remodeling projects. John was notified of our decision and noted that few times do people let a contractor know if they get the job or not. So, if you get an estimate from a company, do the right thing and let them know. If they are too high or have received bad reviews on their work product, be honest. It pays dividends for both.

Most of the job went extremely well. I'll touch on each task separately: 1) The crew (3 people) replaced rotting decorative woodwork on our back porch. This wood was part of a diagonal design on the lower part of our screening, using beveled-edge two-by-fours, painted white. Over the years (the house is now 23 years old) parts of the wood had rotted away. The crew pulled out the bad pieces, cut new pieces to match (including the beveling), installed them and painted them. They didn't remove any of the screening and none was damaged during the work. This was done quickly and professionally, an "A" grade for this job. 2) One of the crew installed the three faucets, and unfortunately during the process released a "loose" plumbing connection, flooding the bathroom and part of the master bedroom and closet. He ran out and quickly turned off the water to the entire house, but it was certainly a stressful event! He got the problem fixed and cleaned up the water quickly (using a shop vac and towels), both in the bathroom and bedroom. The crew brought in fans to help in drying out the carpet that had been soaked (about 20 square feet in the bedroom and closet) and by the time the crew left it was pretty much dry. This was the low point of the project, but it turned out OK, so I'll give them a "B" on it. The faucets are all working fine. 3) We had some water damage to drywall over a large window and the ceiling, from a leaking roof. We also had a number of places where over the years drywall had been damaged, pulled away from the ceiling, corners had lifted, damage had occurred due to pets, and just the usual dings, bumps, wear and tear that happens over the years. The crew of 3 spent about 4 days filling, mudding, sanding and repainting probably a dozen problem areas on top of the major window/ceiling job. They also "re-popcorned" the portion of our ceiling where leaking water had left bare spots. (We didn't have them remove the popcorn ceiling - that would have been a much bigger job!) Our ceiling and fireplace wall, both of which needed repairs, are about 20 feet high and the crew brought in ladders to work on them, and did a good job of making sure the ladders didn't cause more damage. During this process they moved our furniture and covered it to protect it from the dust. Each day they vacuumed their work areas so the dust didn't mount up and we could use the room (mainly the living room) after they were gone. This was definitely an "A+" job. 4) Two wooden columns on the front porch needed to be replaced. These are your basic "southern" type smooth round columns; they were painted hollow wood mounted on wood slabs on our small brick porch, and they had been invaded by insects and the bottom parts of the columns were eaten away. In his quote, Mr. Horton specified fiberglas columns that would match those we had; however, when the crew came they brought two square columns that looked as though they had been constructed by the crew from rough two-by lumber and painted. When I questioned this they confirmed that these were indeed intended for the porch. I refused to accept them, and pointed out the discrepancy from what had been quoted in the proposal I had accepted. The crew conveyed my concerns to Mr. Horton, who, after some discussion, promised to "try" to find the columns that had been specified. Fortunately, this was possible and they installed them with no problems and they look just like the originals. I have to give Horton a "B" on this part of the job, because of the attempt to give us less than was originally promised, but it turned out OK. Throughout the project, the crew appeared promptly in the morning and were polite, professional and efficient. They completed all of these tasks in five days. Every day, and in every part of the house where they worked, they cleaned up completely before leaving for the day. The only cleaning we had to do was after the entire project, when we went around and washed our laminate flooring which (even after the crew cleaning) had drywall dust residue. I think this is inevitable with drywall work and don't fault the crew at all -- just unavoidable. They did a very good job for us, especially on the drywall work -- it seemed like every time we thought it was all done we remembered (or found) another spot that needed attention. They were very patient with us and completed every task. We paid Mr. Horton the amount he had proposed, even though I think the drywall work went a day longer than he originally planned. We are very happy with Mr. Horton's standards of work and will probably employ his firm again.
Description of Work: In this job, Horton Remodeling installed two bathroom faucets and a kitchen faucet, did drywall repairs, replaced rotted wood on our back porch, and replaced 2 damaged columns from our front porch. The job included painting where required for these repairs.

I am sorry, but my cost for labor, insurance, workers comp, etc tend to be higher than others because I do more than just painting. A painters insurance and workers comp is usually 1/2 of what mine is because I do other stuff. Thats just the way it is. Do people complain that Kroger or Publix cost more for groceries than Dollar General? No. They just choose not to shop at Dollar General. I dont understand giving someone a less than perfect grade when you dont use them.

John picked up where our electrician left off. The electrician never returned to finish so John came in and diagnosed the problems. The issues were complicated and required creative thinking. He had to run a new electric line, finish wiring duplex boxes, install 2 light fixtures, trace a problem with a non-functional exterior light, change a light fixture, install a new box for a ceiling fan that came down (and reattached the fan ) and straightened out a problem with a three way foyer light. We love the fact that he is very punctual (or he calls!!), he is calm, professional and a very good communicator.

He did said that he gets most of his business in Angie's List. It was good, he's conscientious with everything that had been in there and he had gotten some great reviews, I have no complaints at all, I'll probably end up using him for at least some or part of the work. I don't have anything to compare to at this point but I think that the prices were half of what we expected them to be half of what we need to get done so I don't know how it is compared to another company at this point.
Description of Work: The only one that I've talked to is Horton Remodeling. They came out and gave us an estimate, we haven't committed to doing the work yet. It was for a kitchen remodel but he also looked at some other things as well, some other work that we needed to get done, window replacement and bathroom tile floors and stuff, but predominantly we got in him for a kitchen remodel.

I called this company to come out and give me an estimate on some storm repairs and to have a deck built. The first appointment that was scheduled, no one showed up for. After two days of calling and leaving messages, I finally got a response when I mentioned I was an Angies List member and that i would be leaving a review. Within five minutes i had a call back. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he told me the excuse about having car trouble. After setting up a new appointment, he came out and took measurements and said he would email me an estimate. A week later I received an estimate for much more then I wanted, but didn't even include the repair I had originally called him out to look at. After another week of trying to get in touch with him I finally sent an email saying I was going to go ahead and hire someone else. Within a few minutes he responded saying he hasn't received any emails or phone calls. After more then three weeks with no results, I have decided to go elsewhere. This company may do great work, but I wouldn't know. It feels to me that my three or four thousand dollars isn't enough to garner their attention.

I know this guy is frustrated, but I wish there was enough space here to paste in our entire correspondance. That way everyone would see the timeline of emails( including his email stating that he had to check with his wife about a decision and he would get back to me after talking to her, and my response telling him to let me know). His response did not come back for a week, partially because he was out of town. And that is ok, but you never hear the contractor posting negative and partial truth reviews because they dont hear back from a customer. I am ok with someone posting reviews that are less than satisfactory.......as long as they are true and accurate. Not everyone or every company is going to get it right ALL of the time. All we can ask is that we work to make it right within reason. I also know that everyones side is tainted with their emotion as well, and I can understand that as well. I responded to this gentleman's emails and phone calls. Just because I did not respond when HE wants me to does not mean he has to threaten me with posting a negative review on Angies List. Everyone (contractor or customer) can be professional without someone having to throw it in my face that if you dont do what I want I will post a negative review on Angies List. Thats not right.

I had a leak somewhere under my kitchen sink that caused some mold and concern there might be more problems. John came out and checked things out. There was leakage and a garbage disposal that was broken. I needed a new sink anyway, so he gave me an estimate for taking out the old stuff, installing new stuff and replacing the moldy wood under the sink. His guys came in and did the job and it all works great! I had to call because I forgot to take my filter device off the end of my old faucet, and John was very kind and dropped it off!
