Work done very professionally. Impressing protection and final cleaning. My previous evaluation of "F" has to be considered WRONG. It was caused by initial problems of communication. Please, cancel it.

Horton remodeling did a stellar job. We had timing issues and so we had less time than we wanted for the repair, which was supposed to take 3-4 days.. ..Horton Remodeling stepped up, brought extra workers in and did the job twice as fast as we expected and with quality results. They finished the job in 1 1/2 days. I couldn't believe it - I was floored. I highly recommend their services.

First: The owner of Horton Remodeling, John, is incredibly responsive. I found this to be even more so if you contact him via e-mail. That's not to say he doesn't return calls, but he's on top of his e-mail. I never had to wait more than a couple of hours for a response (most of the time it was less than this). By being on top of customer communications, he made our family feel like a valuable customer. Second: Spring is the remodeling season. When we were trying to figure out a date to have the doors refinished, Horton was in high demand and fairly well-booked. We were looking at one or two weeks out. At the time, I had taken a week off work to be with my kids during their spring break and I indicated that I would really prefer not to have to take more time off to be home for his crew to do the work. In order to accommodate my request, John asked one of his carpenters (a great fellow named Hank) if he wouldn't mind coming by our house after he got off work each day to work on the doors for an hour or so. Hank lives fairly close to us and was happy to oblige. By being so flexible and willing to work around my schedule, Horton Remodeling AGAIN made us feel like a valuable customer. Third: Once the finishing was completed by Hank, John came by one evening and adjusted our hinges. The doors closed just fine for a day or so, but then one of them started dragging again (these are large, solid wooden doors with a semi-circular top held in place by hinges that only go up about 2/3 of the side - so it's inevitable that gravity will have an effect). I contacted John to let him know and I think he was back out the next day or the day after that and got things set straight again. That was almost two weeks ago and the doors close like butter! Nice and smooth. Fourth: For the quality of service, work and convenience, the cost of the service was incredibly reasonable. A couple of years ago I got a quote from another service and they quoted more than I paid for Horton... per door! So, I ended up waiting until I was in a place to spend that sort of money and come to my surprise, I had money left over (that immediately went toward other projects around the house). If I *ever* need any sort of carpentry or remodeling work done, I will not hesitate to call these folks. Just keep in mind that the work we had done was pretty small-scale, and they do quite a bit of large-scale work, so the scheduling bonus made available to us may vary from job to job. I just wish I could post a picture of their finished work!
Description of Work: The provider refinished our very large, wooden front doors. In addition, Horton Remodeling reworked and adjusted the hinges so that the doors closed properly.

We hired Horton Remodeling to address worn parts and sealant on our 15 year old shower and surround. We were expecting them to disassemble the entire surround, remove the existing sealant, clean all the pieces, replace deteriorating plastic door sweep, reassemble, and re-apply silicone. We are mostly satisfied with the quality of their work, with some exceptions: - Door sweep was addressed during the consultation as a failing plastic profile part, but Horton failed to find a replacement, which was asked of them as part of the work. It seemed they forgot to search around for the part until the day the work was being done. The worker then said they would continue to look for the part in town and get back with us. We haven't heard anything in nearly a month. - We expected the entire surround to be disassembled to get the crud off from between the wall, behind, and underneath it. This was not done. Instead, Horton stripped the silicone from what they could reach and re-applied. I'm sure the crud is still under the surround which will likely lead to premature failure or rust in the future. - Used clear silicone. The existing shower and surround had multiple layers of white (and other) silicone to be removed. Horton decided to replace this with clear silicone instead. Now, we see the crud under the panels since they put on the clear! White silicone would have at least hid this. Also where there are gaps between the wall surround and the pan, the clear silicone shows this as a dark spot and looks like mold or crud. Not a good decision to use clear silicone, which they insisted on. We'll end up covering it with white to fix this mistake and hide the dark spots. - Timing. We were scheduled for a 9am appointment. I received an email from Horton at 8am saying he might be late. That's fine, thanks for the heads up. They didn't arrive until after 11am after more emails from me asking their ETA. They were at the store buying parts for my job! This should have been done ahead of time, not 2 hours after the appointment start time. I took time off work to be there for the appointment. What should have been a couple hours turned into an entire day out of the office. Once they arrived, they worked quickly, even though they took a lunch break, but did only charge me for the time they worked.

John Horton and his crew are far and away the best craftsmen and contractors I have worked with. They're honest, punctual, and the quality of their work is superior to any other contractor I've worked with. I've contracted them for several projects recently, including repairing severe termite damage. Where another local contractor told me repairing the damage would take 2 weeks, John had it completed in about 2 days, and that was after I continued to expand the original scope of the project. I was so pleased with their work I had them back to modify and update my front porch and dormers (in addition to a bunch of other work I kept adding on). The bottom line is that John Horton is quite possibly the only contractor in Savannah that will actually show up when he says he will and the quality of his work is second to none.

I contacted Horton Remodeling before moving into a new house we just bought. We wanted a solution to convert a den into a room to be used as office. He came on time at the scheduled appointment and discussed very professionally the options for new office. We had ideas prior to Horton Remodeling coming but John improved our ideas and even saved us $300! We decided to also have him put a vent in the master bathroom (he installed a vent with integrated light), install the garbage disposal and redo all handles in the kitchen, office and bathroom. John started working prior to us moving to Savannah, we left the key in the mailbox and by the time we arrived in Savannah everything was done perfectly. Throughout the work John sent many pictures to keep us up to date of the progress. We really felt very well taken care of. The work performed by Horton Remodeling was absolutely perfect! He also showed a lot of flexibility as we had to have him come back 2 times because of parts that we ordered that didn't arrive in time. I contacted him via text each time and he responded immediately and performed that work just a day later! Each time the contractors came in the house to perform work they left the house absolutely clean! You would not have been able to see that someone was there to perform work! I never experienced such a thorough clean-up! Overall awesome experience! We will continue working with Horton Remodeling whenever we have a project in the house. I definitely recommend this company!

Everything went well. Mr Horton came over to the house and evaluated the bathroom area, and provided an estimate. We scheduled an appointment to start the bathtub remodeling. This is true and this is my email. I received word the day before our appointment from four other contractors who are both competitors and friends in town that this gentleman was wanting WAY more than he was willing to spend. One contractor he told his price was obscene and told him to get out of his house. The two week date was chosen by him, thus the two week wait. I just wasn't willing to waste my time. Estimates are free and are taken as a loss if one doesn't win the job. And please remember, contractors know each other and talk just like homeowners do. Word about mean customers travels the same way word about unreliable contractors travels. No disrespect meant, I'm just laying it out there..

John promptly returned my call, came to evaluate the repair, prepared an estimate for repair all within 2 days. After the appointment was made John arrived on time to begin work on our garage. He was very professional and did a wonderful job from start to finish. He left his work area very very clean. I would definitely higher John again to repair items in our home and I highly recommend people reading this review higher John also.

Charged nearly $3,000 above original estimate. Stated it was because his measurements differed from ours. While I agree that there may have been some variation in the estimates because we are not contractors and do not know how exact measurements are obtained, there is absolutely no way they were $3,000 worth off. We purchased the flooring based on the exact same measurements and had four boxes of extra flooring. I would have thought that if our measurements were so drastically different from his that we would not have had enough flooring rather than extra. If there was going to be such a large difference in measurements, the professional thing to have done was to have told us that he needed to come measure for himself prior to installing the flooring which would have been fine......I took a day off work the first day he was to be here so I could let him in, give him a key and meet with him regarding some other work we want done. He said he would be here around 9ish. It was 1PM. I could have worked a half day. Another added expense.....

This review is inaccurate. The increase was only $2,300. I quoted this lady for installation of 850 sq ft of flooring along with furnishing, installing, and painting of quarter round. When I arrive there, the lady purchase over 1300 sq ft of flooring for two extra bedrooms and closets. I took initial measurements for the living room, dining room, hall, and entry. They called months later to award the job, and stated they wanted to add the bedrooms. Because of their work schedules I could not make it to their house during normal business hours, so I told her how to measure for the bedroom additions and get back to me with the increase. Simple algebra.... length x width. When I arrived at her house I noticed she purchased a glue down wood floor. I informed her she needed glue for the installation and she went straight away to purchase. She returned with enough glue for over 1300 sq ft of flooring, not 850 sq ft. Once I informed her of the increase because of the difference in square footage, she stated that I was scamming her and this was not right. I left the job with her owing me over $1,780.00. A week later I got the check in the mail. If there really was an scam, then I do not think I would have been paid in full after leaving her job. She didn't even purchase the thresholds. Despite this conundrum, I have offered repeatedly to go over and install them when she gets them. Now she wants a refund of $2,000. If that's the case, I don't understand why she paid the balance instead of keeping it.

When we moved into this rental house almost three years ago, there was a leak in the master bath and we were told then that the valves and stems would need to be replaced. Everything was covered in calcium build up so we pulled off the handles and CLR'd everything to the hilt. We passed this on to our Landlord. As we had always owned before and been fairly handy we nursed the handles for as long as possible. Over the weekend of the 13th the cold water refused to either turn on or turn off, without a screwdriver. I called Henry plumbing Plumbing monday morning and they had someone out by noon that day. Unfortunately he did not have the kit to repair the problem on him. Not that i don't understand that it is an older (1970's) 3 handle kit. But they did have it in stock and he could come out the next day. The office would call to set up the appointment and let me know the cost. Within minutes of his departure the head office called. I had a window of between noon and 2pm and an estimate of $200 to $250 depending on how much time it took him to replace everything. The next morning i received a call about 9:30 asking if he could come early as he had a cancelation. An hour later my tub faucets work perfectly. My only complaint would be that he tried to sop up the water mess on the floor with toilet paper, i brought him a dog towel to finish the drying,

I am currently completing complete home renovations on my property, since my decision to complete this, I subscribed to Angies list and contacted the top 5 remodeling contractors for my area on the website. Number 2 most highly rated was Hortons remodeling. I sent an email via Angies list to let Horton know that I was interested in his service to which I never received a reply. I then called two times leaving voicemails again informing Horton of services I was interested in, I NEVER received any call backs. In dire need of a good contractor (Angies rating) I again contacted Horton remodeling and this time was able to speak to someone, we then scheduled an appointment for estimates on remodeling projects for two days away at a specific time. When the day comes to meet with estimate provider from Hortons, we received a phone call 20min before appointment time informing us that he could not make the appointment due to car trouble. I understand car trouble is a common thing, however there are too many negative factors coincidently happening at the same time i.e.no e-mail reply, no call backs, and now appointment cancellation. Again, I have overlooked the car trouble because Hortons would not have such a high rating on Angies list for no reason. I then called multiple times the next day to possibly reschedule, but to no surprise, there was no answer until the 4th or 5th phone call. I understand that companies will have their bad days, however there was too many negative factors at one time for me to overlook. I would not recommend Hortons and will not be requiring their services, I have since gone with another local contractor who I have found on Angies list and extremely happy with their services.

All true. I was on vacation when this gentleman called and was gone for about 9 days. I did have the fuel pump go out in my truck a little bit before the appointment and had it towed. But this gentleman had already hired a competitor/ friend of mine (which is the other contractor whom he was satisfied with) and still wanted me to come and give a price for comparison. Usually estimates are free for us contractors, but why would we give a bid on a job that has already been awarded to someone else? Why would I waste my time when there was no way I would get the job. As a matter of fact my friend/ competitor was starting the work the next day. Oh well. Customers want to be treated well....I understand that. But keep in mind the contractors want to be treated well too. Getting a free estimate is one thing. Getting a free estimate when you have already made your decision ins another. I've had some "F's" on my reviews and know you will not please everyone. I honestly don't care about the grade, its his perspective. I just want things to be told truthfully. I don't want Angies List to mitigate this. Just leave it as a reminder.

We were so pleased with John's work. This was some of the last painting that needed to be done on this house and we couldn't have asked for a better job. I had some painters prior to John that turned a 10 day job into 8 weeks and never finished. So getting John and his crew was a huge blessing. John is professional, punctual and was very responsive in a timely manner. I met John at the house on July 8th to sign off on the work. While he was there I showed him where there had been a water leak in a bedroom and told him I thought it was from the AC condenser in the attic. He took a look while he was there, and fix the clogged drain from the pan. He charged me nothing for fixing the drain. What a guy!! Most of all he told me when they would start the job and when they would finish. He was absolutely right on the time. It was nice to have someone who did what they say they are going to do. I would highly recommend John Horton and will use him in the future.

John showed up on time with his crew every day and got right to work. He was always available to answer questions during the installation process and he had a polite and professional demeanor during the 3 days he was here. The painting job and installation on both doors and trim was outstanding and there was no mess left behind after he left the job site. John is a trustworthy professional and I highly recommend him and his crew for any projects you might have.
Description of Work: Replaced and painted front and back doors. Installed Gutters on front and back of house.
