Quick response from provider to let me know that he is unable to come give me estimates on some projects I need to have done on my condo. We communicated via email, but the response was professional and, to me, within a reasonable time frame. If I didn't need these projects done in a fairly quick timeframe, I probably would have waited for him to be able to come.
Description of Work: I contacted the provider in hopes of getting some estimates on several projects I need to have done on my condo. The provider contacted me within 48 hours to let me know that his soonest appointment would be about three months out. There are a couple of projects that I really need to have done asap, so I chose to contact other providers instead.

First to last John Horton and his team are truly exceptional! If you are looking for someone that you can depend on to do a first class job for you Horton Remodeling is the right choice. John is a complete professional as are all of his men. He very quickly scheduled an appointment to give me an estimate on the job. He arrived with a clip board, examined all the work to be done and was able to provide us with a detailed estimate within 24 hours. His estimate was not the least expensive of the three that we had requested but it was certainly the most thorough and it specified two coats for all of the painting whereas other painters specified only one. Also, it was obvious from the start that his attention to detail was much more comprehensive. As it turns out, based on the amount of time and expertise that Horton Remodeling spent on the job, we are convinced that his pricing is very competitive. John and his team showed up exactly on the date that we had agreed upon and they stayed on the job, without interruption, until it was completed, totally to our satisfaction. Our home was built in 1879 and is located in the Downtown Historic District, this means that not only are parts of it very old, requiring extra labor, but also any changes that are made need to be reviewed by the commission and any replaced shutters needed to match those that were being replaced. With 22 windows and 22 pairs of shutters, not to mention three sets of french doors and, numerous decorative corbels around the roof line the scraping and painting process was extremely labor intensive. The shutters required extensive scraping, priming and repainting. Some new shutters had to be obtained and John actually had new ones altered so that they matched, exactly, the existing ones. Throughout four weeks of on site work his painters and carpenters were polite, respectful, careful and most important -- very skilled in the execution of their work. They refused to re-hang the shutters until they were absolutely sure that they were as perfect as they could get them. Likewise, they painstakingly repainted the french doors three times because they were not absolutely pleased with how they looked. Every day they arrived early ready to work and when they left at the end of the day their equipment was carefully stowed away and every work area was swept clean. The attic stair replacement was complicated by the fact that the existing old stair had broken and we had it sealed within the drop down door until it could be repaired. John's men showed great creativity, as well as courage( they had to stand on ladders above the staircase without knowing if the existing stairs might fall on them), in dislodging the old stairs, removing them without causing further damage (to the antique staircase as well as two crystal chandeliers which complicated the project). They also showed skill and creativity in installing the new stairs. Since we had them working in that area already we also had them paint the hallway as well -- their interior painting is equally as good as their exterior work. During this project our garage door, old and worn out, broke. Without realizing that Horton Remodeling could have replaced it I mistakenly called a garage door specialist. They came out and did a very poor job replacing the door. John, and some of his team members, were able to explain to us what was wrong with the installation (just kindly sharing their knowledge) and we were then able to get a new door installed correctly. Clearly, they could do a wonderful job with garage doors as well. First to last Horton Remodeling was A+++, it is so good to know that there are professionals out there that you can absolutely trust to do an excellent job for you. We still have a couple of other projects that we intend to call them in on, obviously they are qualified to do just about anything in the remodeling arena. May they stay in business forever, we will sleep easier at night knowing that whatever help we might need with this truly loved but antique home, we have this reliable resource to call upon.
Description of Work: We contacted Horton Remodeling to pressure wash our house and to clean, scrape and paint all of the trim, fascia, windows, doors and shutters (replacing as necessary) on our house and garage. We also needed him to remove and replace a very long and heavy (12 foot ) attic pull down ladder which required framing as well as interior painting.

John Horton came to the house and talked to us about what we were looking at doing. John had several good suggestions and carefully reviewed the overall plan with us. We received an estimate of the work which explained what we were responsible for purchasing and the services that Horton remodeling would provide. Rob, the foreman on the job walked us through what he and the crew would be doing. From demolition to completion we had no surprises and were extremely pleased with the meticulous work that was done. The crew was prompt, hardworking, and courteous. We will definitely use Horton Remodeling for any future projects.

While doing previous door work, asked for screen door repairs when available. He sent two men later that week to repair four doors and screens. We decided on was OK, and worked on the others. One of which needed extensive repairs in addition to the screens. Of course the 115 yr old weathered trim splintered in removal. The work was beautiful, and the doors will look great for another 10 years. When questioned about the higher than expected price (I did not ask for an estimate), John explained that over $200 of materials + two guys full day. I am still please, and would do it again to get the quality. No wonder he is so busy... Will call back when we get around to other projects in the future. .

John estimated the job to take 1 1/2 days - it took three days due to complications like the bathroom door width and other issues characteristic of a Victorian house. Initially, I thought his price quite high, but decided that quality was worth paying for (based on Angie's List feedback). But I thought that all he was going to do was the installations, and we would be responsible for sanding painting etc.. His crew (and him) totally installed, prepped, and primed the doors. They exceeded my expectations, did a beautiful job, and earned everything charged -- and more. We have other projects, and will call John again soon to get on his crowded schedule. His prices are kinda high, but you get what you pay for (ESPECIALLY in Savannah).
Description of Work: Cut down & installed a 115 yr old door that was 3/4 in undersized width; installed a stainglass window + Lexan in an exterior door; and installed an antique leaded glass window + Lexan in another exterior door.

The Horton Remodeling crew did a very good job. They were able to go under the house to repair the subfloor and joists without ripping up all the hardwood floor. The carport area was handled well, with the posts cut down to the concrete pad and filled with cement, and the spa pump shed was removed and new siding attached that closely matches what was on the house. When one of the jobs ran more quickly than expected, they reduced the cost!

There is a carport at the back of my home that made accessing the back yard difficult. In order to enter the yard, I had to exit to the carport from the enclosed concrete block porch and go through the gate to the yard. With three dogs, it was always a challenge just to let them in the yard. I decided to have a doorway added that goes directly to the yard and called John Horton based on Angie's List reports. It was a little difficult at first making a connection, but once I did and he sent me the estimate I was very pleased with it. A time was scheduled, but then had to be rescheduled due to John's illness. Once we set a new date, everyone showed up on time and the work went smoothly. John's crew are all very professional and friendly, and I enjoyed meeting them all. I am extremely pleased with the new doorway and my dogs are even happier!
Description of Work: Created new doorway on back porch for access to back yard. Work involved removing three old windows and cutting opening for doorway in concrete block wall. I intend to contact Mr. Horton in the near future to get this work completed. He is very prompt in pricing out estimates - which I find to be very fair, & pointed me in the right direction to order a glass window for another project. I had called Window World & was told "my price is $375-$400 for glass & install... & don't bother to call a glass company becuase they will rip you on the price." So I asked Mr. Horton & he directed me to a company he uses, & for the same services I was quoted @ Window World, it was $100 cheaper!!! I really appreciated that lead.. something he did not have to do.
Description of Work: Received estimate to install a window that I received from my window under warranty. The Window company was not local, so they shipped me a replacement, leaving me to find a contractor to install.

Mr Horton and his team were very punctual and professional. They accommodated my wife's and my work schedule, which meant not being able to work consecutive days. Also if an issue arose that prevented his team from working that day, I was contacted in advance so that alternate arrangements could be made. As for the work performed, the final product was better than I or my wife had anticipated. The wainscot made the room look larger and accented the walls. After the job was complted the team cleaned the area and returned the furniture back to where it was before the work was performed. Overall we were very satisfied with Mr Horton and his team work.

We did not have enough money to use a contractor, even though John was the best of the three we invited. He was sympathetic and helped us with advice to get our minor kitchen remodel done by ourselves and with people he recommended. I seriously doubt he does this often--he could put himself out of business if he did--but I was enormously impressed by his rare combination of professionalism, knowledge, and kindness.

this man is hard to get a hold of on the phone, it took several times and texts to get a response. the work on the deck was replacing some bad deck boards and removing the old ones. there were several tire tracks left in the grass where a vehicle had backed up, i brought this to his attention and he denied it was from his workers. There was no one else who could have done that, i just left it alone, and wrote it off. after all the work i think the cost was just a little on the high end for the type of work at the house.

[removed member name] is not even stating all the other work that was done. He is a nice guy and does work in Augusta. He was only in town on the weekends which is when he would call and text. During those days I spend time with my wife and kids. I am not open on the weekends, and it says so on my Angies List page. I also removed a door and frame, built a new frame from scratch, and re-installed the door. I also fixed a lock on another door for free. The deck work was replacing some boards on one part of the deck but was also replacing the other half of the deck completely......of which I supplied all the materials and had to wait a month to get paid. This is a rental house for him and I guess it was easier for the renter to blame the tire marks on us. There was also an alarm guy and a tree service that was out there that could have done the tire marks. Or it could have been the renter. Also the marks were 3" deep depressions where the ground was soft, not any peel out marks. At the time that I did finally get paid on a weekend evening when he came back in town, the customer gave no disappointments or dissatisfactions either verbally or in writing. So I am kind of suprised to see this review.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the quality of work. We did run long on the time frame which was mostly attributed to having to remove all the furniture in 3 rooms and put it back. This was to be done by the homeowner, but we took care of it at no charge so that it would not hold the job up. We also went longer because her had us run wiring and install an exhaust fan/ light in his hall bathroom where there was none at all. We installed it from scratch. So running behind on finishing the job was with good reason. Also working around his work schedule on a couple days we could not start til mid morning. But no big deal. The work is done and the quality is good. Thank you for the work.

I was immediately impressed by John Horton's sincerity, and integrity. I thought, "Here's a guy I can trust," and that has proven to be true. He and his team did excellent work, of course, but he also made the experience as pleasant as possible by returning calls and emails immediately and being responsive to my concerns and questions; watching out for my budget all along the way; explaining parts of roof and construction techniques in ways I could understand; and doing an excellent job of cleaning up after work was done. One of the small but important things was that he did not "roll his eyes" if I changed my mind about something. I can say that the same is true for all parts of his team that I have met. I had a long list of things that needed to be done, including some high ticket items like a new metal roof and the addition of a roof deck, installation of 2 solar tubes, a bathroom renovation and some handyman jobs as well. We started out with a new water heater and work on kitchen lights. The lights required more work than we expected because the wiring was quite a mess and had to be straightened out before anything could be done. They handled it very well and communicated what was going on at each step. John took the time to meet with me and a lighting designer so that he could better understand what I wanted. I decided to do the roof first because it was the biggest item and because I thought we might run into a few problems and indeed we did. Because of bad construction by the previous owner, it was difficult to proceed with roofing until they re-framed it. So then I had a tarp on the roof for a while until all that was straightened out. I was out of town for the holidays so they even came out to check on that for me. So we've just completed the roof and are about to start on the other jobs. I highly recommend John Horton and his team for small and large jobs
Description of Work: He replaced a metal roof, including adding a roof deck, and handling a multitude of unexpected problems because a bay window was installed incorrectly by the previous owner. He installed 2 solar tubes to bring more light into my house. He installed a new water heater. He did work on my kitchen lighting, which included having to figure out what the heck had been done by previous owner. He has given me much information and advice on other problems in the house, including poor water quality, ants, and all the while educating me on the process as we went along.

It went very well. We made an appointment and in fact (I don't remember his name) he called and came over earlier since he had an opening. He listened to what we wanted and he looked at the area and said we would hear back from him in a couple days with an estimate. My husband received an email from him in 2 days with the estimate. The estimate was in one lump sum. The only suggestion I would have for him would be to break the estimate into separate jobs. Such as we wanted the cable moved - different estimate. The wall opened up and framed out with a door installed - estimate. Walls with sheet rock up - estimate. you get the idea... I thought the estimate was really expensive and if it was broken up we might have gone with him with doing only certain of the things. We really liked the guy - very personable and professional and prompt.
Description of Work: Gave an estimate for a remodel job - open up the wall under our stairs and put in a closet with light and electrical outlet. Also move a cable outlet to a different wall. The date is approximate.

John and his crew were wonderful. We have worked with installers from lowes and home depot before, and never have we had the opportunity to work with people with such a high level of professionalism. I gave John my key (we were not living in the home) and they were completely trustworthy. They came early, cleaned up after themselves. Joe and Hank, the men who painted the interior and also pressure washed, were very polite and efficient. There were days I was there doing some things at the same time they were and they were nothing but nice. My neighbors commented on how hard they seem to work, and how polite they are. I can't seem to say enough about John and his crew! I am a perfectionist, and they completely lived up to my expectations! Thank you so much, John!!

I had been told that I may have to wait about 6 weeks for my request but upon inspection I was told that they would complete the job the following week. They showed up a few days later and completed it in about 10 minutes.

Response from Horton Remodeling
$10.00 for the rain diverter and a 30 mile round trip to install on the roof? I think the price is reasonable considering after gas and materials are taken out of that, 2 guys had to split $45.00. Either way, thank you for the work.
