I thought that they did a little more because they rearranged some of the gas line and water pipe that was a quick job by the builder, and they did a great job. I was very pleased and would use them again in the future.

They were extremely responsive, very professional, and very communicative via real-time telephone conversations and follow-up e-mails. They had completed both jobs by the next day after my calls to them. They thoroughly explained both jobs to me and discussed the price before hand so I knew exactly what it was going to cost. They discussed with me the options which I needed to make an informed judgment and they provided feedback as the jobs progressed. They interfaced well with my tenants were exceptionally reliable and trustworthy. They are both retired Navy chiefs and obviously bring the same standards of service to their current civilian careers.
Description of Work: Marine plumbing performed two jobs for me at two of my rental houses in late September and early October 2008: The first was an electric water heater replacement for $1,070 in Marietta, and the second a gas water heater and pressure regulator replacement in Woodstock for $1,250.

+ -1 moreNick and Tony are AWESOME: professional, knowledgeable, courteous, thorough, responsive, patient, efficient, clean, not to mention just downright nice guys. They took a lot of time to inspect the problem. The repair was much more extensive than I had expected. The original plumbing was not installed to code. They asked me to climb up the ladder and inspect the problem myself, where I could plainly see shoddy original installation, and the obvious cause of the problem. They took a lot of time to explain my options, and I got to choose which one was best for me. I was grateful for their respect of my limited budget. After the work was complete, I was able to see their repairs. Also, they took great pains to clean up all that annoying drywall mess. Their work is impeccable; I'm a picky perfectionist and didn't have one complaint. Every contractor should be this reliable, honest and thorough.

As soon as they gave me the estimate, they were ready to fix the problem. They also showed me how to dry out what was left of the flooring under the sink. They were very careful since my daughter and I are allergic to mold. It was sort of like having family come give you a hand.
Description of Work: Reworked kitchen sink and connections to dishwasher which were backwards. Covered exposed electrical wires. Removed moldy flooring under sink due to leak. Replaced leaky faucet/taps/spray nozzle with beautiful faucet/taps/spray nozzle that has a lifetime guarantee.

Nick Marine responded to my message within half an hour and told me to call the city to have a crew come out so that I would not be charged for more water loss. He and the city crew arrived within the hour and made a temporary fix that enabled me to continue to have water. It took a couple of days for all the utility companies to mark their lines before he could dig, but he had a crew here the next day. They completed the job that day (which was unexpectedly difficult, as my yard is full of rocks). They were very professional, and Nick fixed a couple of things that were wrong with my plumbing connections. I will definitely hire him again.
Description of Work: They laid new copper pipe from the water meter to the house to replace the plastic pipe in my yard that broke.

+ -1 moreThe fact that this was such a quick and easy fix did not frustrate me too badly. Yes, It turned out to be a job I could have done myself, but the fact that my plumbing repairs tend to involve more than one trip to a home improvement store and 4 band-aids was an influence. I was not the least prepared for a final bill of $386.00 I had actually expected that it might be lower than the $250 estimate, but obviously not. Assuming a total actual cost of materials at $30.00 ( including the access panel at 19.99 - I checked) then the charge of $105 is harsh. The fact that the labor was $275 works out to $550/hr - nice work if you can get it! Overall, Nick is very professional and did a fine job. However, we were overcharged for this simple repair, and we will not be calling him back. The cost of repairing something serious would apparently require a second mortgage.
Description of Work: Experiencing leaks from an upstairs guest room bathtub, which were running down the walls and into the downstairs. Nick gave an estimate of $250 on the phone. I assumed that this would include all but the "worst case scenarios" and agreed to an appointment in two days. Not bad, since it is not an emergency. Nick cut into the sheetrock in the closet that shares a wall with the bathtub on the other side, replaced a gasket around the overflow pipe, installed a couple of screws, applied caulk to the joint and to the outer overflow cover. He also installed a PVC access panel in the cutout, for future access and to cover the hole in the wall. Nick and his associate arrived as scheduled. They were able to assess the problem very quickly, showed me what the problem was and told me what it would take to fix it. In about 15-20 minutes, they had the job completed and everything completely and spotlessly cleans up. Total time in the house was around 20 - 30 minutes.

+ 0 moreGot quotes from 3 companies on the list. Marine was best value, but not lowest price because he sells a professional grade unit, not builder's grade. Better warranty. The current water heater was working, but perilously old, so there was no sense of urgency, but he still came out within 2 days of my call. Was very informative about water heaters in general and very forthcoming about costs for required code upgrades. Came with 2 other guys on his crew. They were all very nice and conscientious about their work and keeping it clean. Also gave advice on replacing valve for master bath shower. They came a little later than scheduled (which we appreciated) because of hard rain and did not want to potentially damage new water heater by carrying it in the rain. Nick relocated unit about 18 inches further away from furnace so servicing furnace would be easier in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced 21 year old 50 gallon gas water heater and brought connections up to code.

Tony called us back within the hour and came to our house that Sunday afternoon to assess the leak. He came back several times as we tried different approaches to locating the leak. Tony followed up with us to make sure things were going well with the work they had completed. While they were installing the hot water heater, Nick noticed a pipe that was not properly secured and took a minute to secure it for us as well. We truly enjoyed working with Marine Plumbing, and while I hope we don't need their services again soon, they will be my first call in the event we need plumbing services.
Description of Work: Tony spent a great deal of time trying to locate the source of a leak in our shower and ruling out a variety of plumbing issues that might be causing the issue. After diligently testing a variety of scenarios, we located a small space in the shower door where the seal was missing. While testing our water pressure, he noticed that we had plastic in the screen on our faucet. He researched our water heater model and found the builder had put a 1993 water heater in our 1998 constructed home. These heaters had a known dip tube defect and this resulted in plastic in our pipes. We had Tony and Nick install a new water heater and flush the pipes throughout the house.

Both Tony and Nick made sure we understood everything involved in what they did and made sure we were satisfied with the work (which we were!), including a follow-up phone call a day or so later. My husband and I have observed various contractors over the years both through our work and in our home; Marine Plumbing's knowledge, experience, and professionalism were obvious.
Description of Work: Our water line burst and Tony responded promptly to evaluate, provide an estimate, and perform a temporary fix so that we would have water use in the interim (utilities had to be marked before they could start digging). He and his crew arrived right when promised to install a new line, got right to work, and were very efficient, finishing in a shorter time than we thought it would take.

+ 0 moreLast Saturday our water heater failed, not a nice way to start the weekend. After calling several companies from the yellow pages, none of which could/would commit to service before Monday, I contacted Nick Marine. Nick was in his truck en-route to meet his partner on another job. He asked several pertinent questions to determine the environment, water heater size, possible age, etc. and then offered a quote and commitment to respond same day. Within two hours his partner Tony arrived to start the job. Nick arrived shortly after with all required parts. Both Nick and Tony took time to explain what they were doing and why. I found both of them personable, professional, and knowledgeable. I learned, in talking with them, that each of them has an extensive background in plumbing and that each takes great pride in their work and the quality of the products they use. Nick and Tony are a great team. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Nick and Tony replaced the water heater, rerouted what had been a maze of piping, and relocated/installed new, easier to use, ball valve cutoff valves. They also installed an expansion tank to bring us to current code and a new pressure valve to protect the new water heater and the overall plumbing system. The price was as quoted and the workmanship excellent.

He even called me when he encountered some traffic to tell me that he might be a few minutes late for the appointment. He gave the estimate and I scheduled the appointment to make the repair. Tony called that night and talked to my husband to make sure that he knew exactly what the problem was. Tony was early to my repair appointment! He performed the work and was very knowledgeable about everything. He even liked our 2 big dogs! Will definitely use again if we have any other problems.

Nick and Tony explained everything they were doing, pointed out anything that they thought needed doing, and got the job done as scheduled and as budgeted. Very friendly and professional, and totally focused on a quality job. If Nick isn't satisfied, he'll do it again. He fixes problems I would never see, and makes sure it is 100% right. I didn't think plumbing could be pretty, but it is when Nick gets done. If you have a plumbing job, use Marine Plumbing. This was by far the best contractor experience I have ever had.
Description of Work: Replacement of all cast iron drain lines in basement - rework pressure relief valve, replace a number of faucets and defective plumbing joints.
