 + -1 moreThe call center set up an appointment. The technician arrived on time and told me I needed to approve a $294.12 charge for diagnosing the problem BEFORE he could give me an estimate. HELLO? I explained to the technician that no mention was made of the $294.12 cost. How did they come up with $294.12? He argued with me attempting to get me to accept the cost. Honestly, this individual did not present the competence necessary for any property owner to allow him to provide service. Lightning Bug Electric was a waste of time. Another electrician diagnosed and repaired the problem for $100.

 + -1 moreI scheduled an appointment last week to have them come out and install 3 new wall outlets. Over the weekend my stove began having issues and I shut down the power supply. Today when Roland came out he discovered issues in the way in which the 220 outlet was previously wired and the power cord on the range was installed incorrectly. Roland fixed the range issue along with the 220 outlet box. In addition he installed 3 new outlets in my basement. He was very prompt professional and easy to work with. He arrived on time and got the entire job done in a timely manor.

By 1:35pm I hadn't heard, so I called and was told that the electrician was just finishing a job and would be there in 30-40mins. He actually arrived closer to 2:45pm. Once he was here, though, he worked quickly and did a great job.

 + -1 moreIt did not go as I had planned. The advertised price was only for an outlet on an outside wall directly behind an indoor outlet. This was not explained in the original offer. To provide an outlet at the front of my house for holiday lights(as was their promo) or whatever, would have put an outlet in the center of the wall on the front of my house....not very attractive. Since I had already spent the money, I had an outlet installed on the side of the house per their specs, but it does not serve my orginal purpose. They also pressured me into making an appointment for a new electrical panel to be installed. The one I have may have issues, but it has not been recalled, but they made me feel like my house would burn down at any moment. To their credit, they did let me cancel the panel order. If I do get that done, it won't be with them.

 + 0 moreWe had a coupon for $75 fan installation. However, the fan we were replacing was installed (mounted) incorrectly. When we were shown how it was secured, we felt lucky that it didn't fall on someone before. It cost an extra $75 to remount the fan. The work was excellent. Previously Lightning Bug Electric installed a kitchen light and did an excellent job.

 + 0 moreI am so very pleased with the service from Lightning Bug Electric and technician Michael Williams. The dispatcher called ahead to let me know the technician was on the way (one of the courtesies I wish more service companies would pay attention to), and he arrived right on time. He looked at the vent hood first, and got everything running again very quickly. When it came to the chandelier in the dining room, the technician had to help me move the dining table out of the way first -- and actually did almost all of the heavy lifting all by himself. Then he unpacked the new chandelier, took down the old one, assembled the new one and got it installed. He insisted on cleaning up everything and even took the packing out to the recycle bin for me - and of course moved the table back into position. He also took the time to give me an estimate on a couple of other things I'd asked about, and finished the visit with a complimentary inspection of the house's electrical panel. I couldn't have asked for better service -- and will definitely use Lightning Bug again!
Description of Work: The Lightning Bug Electric technician replaced a chandelier in the dining room (took down the old, wired up and hung a new one) and repaired the vent hood over the stove.

The technician did a great job. In the future I will probably try to go with an hourly rate rather than a fixed price.

Description of Work: I needed a ceiling fan installed in my daughter's room, so I took advantage of the $75.00 ceiling fan installation coupon from Angies' List and called Lightning Bug Electric. The entire process was very professional, and they scheduled an appointment within 2 days of my calling. The Electrician, Barry, was very friendly, courteous and knowledgable, and he did the work in no time flat, and it looks terrific. No problems there. However, when he checked out where the fan was to go, he said it required a "fan brace box" to hold it securely, which I totally agreed with. The price was stunning: $196.00 for the brace box. I'm sure it is high quality, and I would definitely want something that will hold, but Jeez! After looking over some of the other ceiling fan installation comments on Angies' List, I don't see anything that matches that, so I'm wondering why I had to pay so much for that one part. It's not like my ceiling was falling down and he had to repair the drywall or anything. A quick check on the internet found brace boxes ranging in price from $4.99 to $165.00. Could you have maybe used a mid-range one? Like, maybe $40 or $50? Why the industrial strength brace box? Oh well...I just think had I known in advance that it would be so expensive, I would have shopped around. True, I could have balked at the price when he told me, but I wanted the work done today.So my one ceiling fan installation ($75.00) and the brace box installation ($196.08) wound up costing $271.08, which is above the norm, I think, to install a ceiling fan. Am I wrong? Again, I wish to emphasize the quality of workmanship and the awesome job Barry did. It took him about 30 minutes, and it looks great. So I have mixed feelings about the negative aspects of the job but I feel I have to be honest here on Angie's List.

 + -1 moreI contacted Lightening Bug because they had an Angie's List deal and would install the ceiling fan for $75 as long as there was a pre-existing light fixture and box (it would cost extra if there were no pre-existing light fixture; another $150). When the technician arrived, he told my husband that the box in the ceiling was not fan rated and that it would cost an adiditonal $225. The tech was unfamiliar with the Angie's List deal and could not get in touch wit his office to confirm. The tech left without performing the service. I called the ofice that afternoon and explained the situation. I indicated that the Angie's List deal did not specify "fan rated" ceiliing box versus "light fixture" rated ceiling box - just that the box had to exist. The office sent out another tech to install the fan for an additional $150. The second tech did a very good job of installing the fan for me. I think the terms of the Angie's list deal were unclear and I was unhappy that I had to pay the full $150 extra - as if not light fixture existed at all.

However, the owner, Tony, took ownership of the problem and resolved it to my satisfaction. THAT is what is important to me...a company that looks at the long term ramifications of issues, rather than trying to just get their money and not care about satisfaction. After dealing with many companies and their "customer no service" I will say that this company strives to do right, and make the customer satisfied.

Let's just say that although the price was inclusive of whatever work and materials were required, it was much higher than I would have thought. The installation was the tough part, having to go in the ceiling and only making minimal holes. I appreciated that. The hookup and testing seemed to go pretty smoothly, as was working with the HVAC installation crew. Overall, the job went well. About the price - I have no idea if the price included an 'emergency mark-up' since I had no a/c for several days, and Lightning bug was the only place out of 4 that I called that could make the appointment at the same time that the a/c guys were there. I am fully aware that the industry standard is flat rate pricing - I just feel like the amount of work done for the job didn't actually reflect the cost of either materials or time, so I suppose it's natural to feel like you got dinged on price when you needed the work done immediately.
Description of Work: Install #8 cable from electrical panel to new HVAC system using electric heat.

Having worked with many electrical contractors in the past, I knew right away that the price was fair and decided to have the job done. He was able to take care of it right then and it took less than 2 hours. He also took the time to look at the breaker box, etc. and give me some recommendations for other work that could be done at a later time. Lightning Bug will be who I call for my next project and I will ask for Michael.
