About us
E. Smith celebrated 50 years of serving north metropolitan Atlanta in 2012 and we continue to work to keep our customers satisfied. We have over 50 employees including 12 technicians. Our only subcontracted area is in our commercial installation department. We accept all major credit cards and have equipment financing plans available through Wells Fargo. Each spring and fall we try to offer timely maintenance specials but the most affordable maintenance is with our annual agreement plans. I called and they fit me in for a same day appointment. Dave was super professional and nice! He had some suggestions about my system that might be causing my home to take longer to cool but told me to hold off until spring next year before doing anything since it was no point wasting money going into the winter season. Great company that provides a great service!

We moved into a house that was 30 years old. The HVAC equipment was original. I invited E Smith to check it out as well a few other very reputable companies. They all did a thorough review of the equipment and ductwork and then all wanted to sit down with Marianne and me to discuss. The only one that Marianne remembered was E Smith's Earl Houghton. No push from him like the others, but he definitely gave me some financial and equipment incentives to move quickly if we decided to use them. My familiarity was with Trane equipment and E Smith sells Carrier. Son Mark has Carrier in his house and was pushing Carrier on me, but I was stubborn and was definitely a Trane man. I studied the brands on the internet trying to find some sound analysis and reasoning finding one superior over the other. (That's the way we engineers are.) I couldn't find it. None of the "experts" seemed to want to find any fault with either. Instead, they all were saying that the most important thing with either of these brands was the installer. Consumer Reports ranks them both up at the top, but wouldn't clearly rank one over the other. Once again, Marianne felt real good about Earl and some of the other companies were getting downright irritating about this time. It ended up being between a very good Trane company in Kennesaw and E Smith. Some previous knowledge of Earl Smith and his love of the community of Cobb along with Marianne's comfort with salesman Earl Houghton swayed me away from Trane over to E Smith's Carrier equipment and service. Now it was time to install. You wouldn't believe what I saw when I went downstairs to check on them. They were removing the old furnaces and had a pathway to the door covered with heavy drop cloths to prevent any mess on my concrete basement floor. When they set foot upstairs, they were wearing booties on their shoes. Our basement looked cleaner when they left than before they came! They went out of their way to work with me in a custom way which allowed me to place some poured concrete condensing unit pads outside following their removals and before they came back to install. Remember what I said about "its all about the installer"? I had three super installers. These guys did a really nice job and I'm pretty picky. They adjusted and rebuilt all of the existing ductwork and utilities as necessary to be compatible with the new. I have a feeling they found a lot that was unexpected as well. However, I never received any indication that there would be any additional costs or any suggestions of possible extra costs for anything. The two systems are some of the latest high efficiency Wi-Fi connected communicating technology equipment out there and these guys knew exactly how to install it and set it up as if they'd been doing if for years. It was all carefully explained to me how it works and how to operate it. Of course, it's all automatic, but it has operator's options that are very easily programmed into the touch pad or from your ipad from anywhere in the world. To sum it up, Carrier equipment is at the top of the list with Trane and E Smith is at the top with installation and service. When you enter into a contract with a company for this kind of work, its good to know that the trust level is sky high as it is with these people. When you dig around and research to check things out like I did, you will also choose E Smith and you will also be extremely pleased. Do it again? Yes, exactly the same way with E Smith.

I have a contract with them. I like their personal service. They are very hands-on. They call you to see if you are ready to schedule their checking service and they change my filters every time they come. I am physically challenged so I cannot change them myself and if I needed them to come, they would come and do that. It is their personal service. They are very good. They are very reasonable I think.

My son had just closed on a house. We knew from the inspection that the furnace was not working. My son had contacted another company recommended by inspector to look at the furnace. They recommended it be replaced for about $4000, gave no quote for repairs. I told my son to call ESmith. I have used them on my house and on a rental property that I own. They have always been honest and very professional with their work. They were able to repair the furnace, and did recommend replacing in the future. I highly recommend and will continue to use their services!

The service visit met my expectations and the quality of service that I have consistently received from E. Smith throughout the 30 yrs. that they've handled our heating/AC services.
Description of Work: We have a service plan with E. Smith. The the provider thoroughly checked our heating/AC system and replaced filters. After completing the work, he presented a checklist showing the services that he performed and took time to answer questions that I had regarding how to improve the air quality in the basement. The provider arrived promptly, identified himself and asked permission before moving to areas within the house. He appeared knowledgeable and conducted himself in a professional and respectful manner throughout the service visit.

We've had their service for several years. We like their maintenance plan. We didn't have air conditioning on a Saturday and it was Memorial Day weekend and we were considered top priority. They came out that Saturday evening and fixed our problem. We get a discount with the maintenance plan. It was a free service call and we paid for the parts. If we hadn't had the maintenance plan, they wouldn't have come out until that Tuesday. In an emergency, they are always right there. The price is very fair. In non-emergency situations, they give a 5 hour window to come out. It is too long for working people.

I wanted to address the call windows issue you noted. We also don't like having these 4-5 hour windows - currently we schedule 8-12, 11-4, and 3-7 trying for some overlap. The problem is we just don't know what the technicians will run into as most of our calls require diagnosis and service. So we have decided it is better to have a somewhat wider time frame and stay in that window versus having to do frequent rescheduling to another day. we needed two of our air units replaced. They gave us a great deal including a service plan. they even took parts from the units they replaced for us to use in a smaller third unit to allow us more time with it and eliminate the need for replacement. They were thorough and made sure our home now cools evenly. Some ductwork was rerouted to help with this. We also replaced thermostats.

Upstairs A/C works well now, over 1 yr. Installation done well, on time, competent, and as promised with accurate estimate. Replaced with similar Carrier central air. The old unit had a significant freon leak and when this happens the entire unit is usually replaced, I was told. The old unit was 10+ years old.

they did a great job, fixed one problem with the installation on the air conditioner at no cost to me. They are always on time, price fairly and act in a professional manner. I have a 5 year maintainance contract at a discounted price for the air and furnace maintainance.

Did all in one day. Very happy with result. Been using E. Smith for 16 years. Never had a problem. Had maintenance agreement the whole time. Would come out twice a year to make sure everything was working. During this time when the old furnace went out they came right away. Even came out about 10:00 PM. one night. When I needed a new system I called 4 companies. I gave the business to Smith because of their track record.

Condenser was not running, so air in the house was not cooling. Scheduled an appointment with E Smith, who I have a contract with (so I get discounts for parts, etc). Repair person came on Saturday. Was very friendly and we talked about the a/c unit. Had couple of issues: capacitor was not working and unit was low on Freon. The condenser ran once the capacitor was replaced.

About 2 months after they installation they came back out to check and adjust everything, and we've been very pleased with the overall experience we had with tem. I'd highly recommend them.

I've always had good service from E Smith. I have a couple of techs I like the best and ask for them. Management has always been very receptive. They are professional, arrive almost always right on time, or very close to it. In Atlanta exactly on the button on time is really hard but they seem to work hard to do that. Being on the full maintenance plan, I get priority service. I've had one tech out here that did not seem to know as much as the others, but he has not ever been back so I can only assume he did not work out. But the majority of the techs have been very seasoned, long term employees. Which says a lot, that you keep your employees. HVAC work is just expensive period. They have not seemed to be any more nor any less expensive than Reliable, which was who we used for many years before, but had a few problems with, so switched 4 years ago to E Smith on the referral of a friend. I'm very glad I did. I had a "single operator", not a company, install 2 of the 3 units in our home, one was installed by Reliable. They have all 3 given us problems and are all three less than 5 years old. E Smith has been fixing them. I just don't think anything is made to last anymore. It has to frustrate the repair people. But E Smith has done good by us and been professional and on time.
Description of Work: We have been with E Smith for about 5 years now. We have 3 systems in our home. I generally am on the yearly full maintenance coverage. Last year (beginning 2011) I was ill and about 2 weeks late in calling them to renew our service contract. I was initially told they were no longer going to offer them, so they were only offering them to prior customers but I was too late. I asked to speak to management. I explained my situation and they agreed to allow us back on the full maintenance plan. This summer we had a major breakdown, the fan blade in the motor housing, the weld that holds it on broke off and the blade was spinning out of control and sliced through all kinds of things before I was able to shut the system off. Thank God I was at home, the house filled with acrid black smoke. Let me also say E Smith did NOT install this unit to begin with!. They were out within 4 hours and had the problem diagnosed. Unfortunately our unit is a very high end, high efficiency unit, not one they usually install and there were no motors available here so it had to be shipped from CA. At first the shipper sent the wrong motor. As soon as it arrived, which unfortunately was 9 days later, they installed, no charge, honoring my maintenance agreement. It was a very expensive repair. I have noticed there are a couple of techs that are way better than one we had out. I try to ask for the same guy each time. I wish I had his name written down, I used to but cannot find it right now. I ask for the man who goes to Antarctica. They have one tech who goes sometimes to work for several months in Antarctica maintaining the HVAC system at one of the stations there. He knows his stuff. Overall we have been very pleased with them and will continue using them. They did just change their full maintenance coverage this year to several options. But we are still able to keep the old one that is full coverage. The full maintenance coverage at the price they were offering was just too costly for them I imagine, with the shoddy way everything is made now-days, not made to last. With HVAC repairs being so expensive and the quality of the units going down so much, I always get the full maintenance coverage and have no problems at all recommending E Smith. I read the couple of negative reviews, I can only guess they got one of the few bad techs, always ask for management if you have a problem, I've found them VERY receptive and open, not something you can say much now. Hard to ever reach management anywhere!
