Upstairs AC was 20 years old and basically dying. Honestly, I didn't call around too much because the weather was warming up and we needed it fixed ASAP. I feel the cost was probably average, didn't get the feeling it was excessive or cheap. The guy giving the estimate spoke with my wife and showed the changes in the ductwork on his ipad. We talked over the phone and he explained it to me but I wanted a visual of exactly what he was planning. I asked him twice to send me the plans but he never did. It sounded like an upsell but our son's room is right over the garage and has terrible air flow out of the vent so I thought it was reasonable enough to give it a try. They did include a $300 discount for the job so that helped. Also, I didn't feel he was trying to upsell us on the actual unit and he seemed reasonable to what we needed. The day of install was a slight issue but nothing major. We were the 2nd job scheduled and it was going to take half a day to install this. The first job was running behind and my wife was getting worried this was going to get cancelled but the guys finally called and said they were on their way. Had a couple of very nice guys, Steven and Chavez install the unit, condenser and change the ductwork. They were very professional, laid down the appropriate plastic on the floor and wore booties, didn't leave too much of a mess (hard not to track down insulation from the attic though) and finished the job in the evening without much of a break. I'll have to say, the difference between living in a house for 2 summers with a dying AC unit and getting it replaced truly was night and day. The unit worked all summer without a problem. As a nice surprise, the changes in the ductwork actually made a tremendous difference. Now our son's room and adjoining bathroom have probably 3-4x the amount of airflow as before.

We bid Casteel against another large AC servicer. Casteel was able to match the lowest price. The team sent out was very professional. The project tooke them 3 hours longer than expects, but they did it without a complaint. We will use them again to switch out our other furnace soon.

They are fabulous. They're always here on time. They're very happy & friendly - even though they were here from 10 am to 9 pm for this service! After they left, you couldn't even tell they'd been here they cleaned up so well. They also do our yearly service & we've never had any problems. If we ever have an issue they're here the same day as a rule.

I just happened to hear a loud, intermittent noise from the outside unit of my A/C while I was getting ready for the tree people to remove a dead tree. When I called, they were ready to send someone on Monday. But with a crane coming to my front yard that day, we chose Tuesday. By this time, my parents (88 and 91) were here from New Orleans to avoid hurricane Isaac. They couldn't work in the heavy rain on that electrical unit so they rescheduled me to Wed AM, to try to beat the rain. They came first thing and determined I needed a new fan motor. Joy Erica, and others in the office kept in close contact to let me know the part was in stock and scheduled me for first thing Wed for the replacement. They also assured me both parts and labor were still under warranty. This experience continues the great service I received when I consulted with Casteel on my new unit.

We called Casteel and left a message that we wanted a service call because our upstairs unit needed servicing and freon because it was not cooling well enough. We told them the date we needed which was a week in advance. No one showed up. No one called or emailed us. We have been existing Casteel customers for a few years. When I called to get an explanation, they said they had tried to call several times and had emailed. We got no call or email. I verified that they had the correct information. After arguing with me about trying to contact us (two different people), they agreed to work us in the next day. Again, no one showedbup and no one called. What is their excuse this time? In the past their service was okay, but this is unacceptable. I will be looking for a new HVAC company to meet my needs.

Sales person gave me an estimate that included changing out plenums with new AC (compressor and coil) install. He said the office would call a day in advance to confirm appt., that 2 guys would do the install, one of whom would be an experienced technician ("all our lead techs have years of experience and have worked a long time with us").No one called the day before. I called them to confirm and spoke to the salesman who again confirmed the other items re. the install. I took off work to get the installation done. I was told they would be at my house between 8-8:30am. They came at 8:45am (pretty good so I gave them B for punctuality). The lead tech. was a young kid who admitted he had been with the company for only 3 months - this is the lead tech. He told me installation of the plenums was not included and would be extra. I called the salesman. I woke him up - he said he was sick. He was indifferent to my telling him I was canceling the installation because what he told me was not happening. I called the main office and the manager/owner called me back and heard my complaint. I will go elsewhere for my AC unit. Poor follow through from this company - made me feel uneasy before we did anything.

It was a great experience. They are really great and I was pleased. I had problems with the guy who initially put the air conditioning in but this guy was knowledgeable about the Trane air conditioning system and was willing to work with me any way I needed him to. He came out the same day I called.

The technicians Sean and Daniel arrived about fifteen minutes before the scheduled time which was great to install the heating and air units. Sean went over the equipment to installed and the location. When they came into the house, they made sure they had their shoe covers on and were always polite and very professional. After the completion of the installation, they went over want was done, showed me how the thermostat worked, made sure everything was cleaned up. Everyone I dealt with in the company were great and very informative. I would highly recommend this company for your heating and air needs. Thanks for a job well done.

My A/C quit working, company that installed did not returned my calls, I signed up with Angie’s List, found another company. I called at 9 a.m., the technician was at house at 10 a.m., had the problem diagnosed by 11:00 a.m., I was thrilled, and he gave me a break on the price.
Description of Work: Replaced compressor in Trane A/C, still under warranty (3-year-old) could not get the company that installed the Trane to return my calls. The technician that performed the job was knowledgeable, professional, and a pleasure to work with. I wrote better business bureau at the company that never responded.

Service tech arrived on time, and was professional and pleasant, however, he failed to clean my unit properly. The service he was supposed to do was a spring checkup, which includes cleaning the cooling fins on the outside unit. He informed me that my fins were very dirty and recommended a chemical wash, which is a premium service not included with the maintenance, and is $89 extra. As I thought I could have this done for far less money, I declined, and told the tech to continue to clean the unit as he normally would (using the hose) without the chem bath. I doubt the tech even sprayed the hose at the unit because my examination of the unit after the tech left revealed that the fins were still as dirty as they were before the tech arrived. I removed the outer casing of the unit (10 minutes) and used the hose on the fins myself (another 10-15 mins) and completely cleared the fins of buildup. The dfference was like night and day. There's no way the tech did the right thing. Now, here's where I simply cannot excuse this company. When I left a complaint message on Bob Casteel's blog, I was called back by some cust service rep (or maybe an exec) who immediately tried to defend the serviceman despite clear evidence (I have pictures of the unit before and after I cleaned it) that I was shortchanged. Do you know what his argument was? It was "you unit needed a chem bath and you declined it, so what's the problem"? The problem, my dear sir, as if I should even have to write it or say it, is that your tech failed to clean my unit AT ALL. It really doesn't matter whether you thought it could use a chem bath to clean it BETTER. Instead of correcting this horrible theft of my money, this Casteel rep tried to talk his way out of it. BAD customer service. I left another complaint on Bob Casteel's blog regarding this awful customer service about a week ago. Has he or anyone else replied? Nope. Deadbeats. Stay Away.

I realize you gave us all A's with the exception of quality. In looking back at your service invoice, I do believe my service technician should have provided you with a better value. All of our technicians are giving strict guidelines to follow on the $79 dollar tune-up, but it obviously is going to require that I spend more time in training. As an owner, our team spends hundreds of hours each year in training and communication. Providing the absolutely best quality is our number one priority, because without that what do we really have. I'm sorry for the unprofessional service you received, and I wished my staff had communicated better. Overall: Very Poorly. Three visits to fix one simple problem, and also to do Spring checkups, due to NEW leaks being created twice during their work. There is very low chance of this just happening randomly, with one 4 yr old system and one 12 year old system. The "savings" from "free freon" is EASILY overwhelmed by multiple visits, repairs, and them pushing new SYSTEMS at $8,000. And then PRESSURING that a new system is REQUIRED asap, and using "bad science" to claim that any tiny Carrier Heat Exchanger crack will definitely put CO in our home, when this is patently untrue. This Carrier heat exchanger was designed to "fail safe". Any crack and leakage will cause CO to go OUTSIDE with the combustion exhaust . It seems they are using misinformation to scare and sell new units ($8,000).
Description of Work: I researched EBSCO best picks and picked Casteel based on this. Also, Arborists had stepped on my freon line while removing a tree, and so I knew I needed a full freon charge, and Casteel advertises free freon, so that may have tipped me over to picking them. Visit 1: He said I must replace a filter canister at the condensor (I think it is soldered on), and so even with free freon, the call / repair was quite expensive. (~$500?) I also purchased a maint. contract for 2 systems for a year. He also convinced me that I needed an expensive outdoor condenser chemical wash for my heat exchanger because it hadn't been sprayed with water hose cleaning every 6 months. Visit 2: Something the tech did caused all this freon to leak out of this downstairs system, and the Heat Pump (AC for summer) totally lost the ability to cool within 2 weeks. Another call & visit. Visit 3. Within a few weeks the upstairs system also stopped working. Again something about how he had disrupted seals while checking the refrigerant level & pressures. SO, with the Spring Service BOTH systems took EXTRA visits to solve NEW problems that the first visit had caused. I think they charged me smallish amounts on one of the visits- but it's a hassle and bad track record so far. Visit 4. VERY DISTURBING: For the Winter Visit, the Tech raced down to our old unit, CUT a hole in the side (without asking permission) to probe with a fancy camera probe. He was predicting and determined to find a crack in our Carrier furnace heat exchanger. He did find a very SMALL crack (dime length/ probably NO area to leak air?) and insisted the entire system must be replaced ASAP, and my family was in danger. He also said no CO meter could be trusted as they only read down to 9 or 15 ppm, and my family could be permanently damaged at levels below this. IT WAS MAJOR SCARE TACTIC AND PUSHING NEW SYSTEMS. I asked didn't he need to wash my high efficiency condenser coils outside, and he said, "nope, no need". After telling me the previous visit that they needed washing every 6 months or I'll have to pay for the expensive chemical wash again. I called a very reputable firm for a 2nd opinion, (also a Carrier dealer), who came and looked inside my system, and said this was a scare tactic, and that the design of my carrier furnace heat exchanger is SUPER SAFE. The other firm showed me clearly how even if the crack did open up when heating, that the differenctial pressure pushes ALL THE CO OUTSIDE.. No wonder all 4 of my CO detectors NEVER detected a peak above zero over the rest of the winter. (I think they only sense down to 9, 12 or 15ppm?) I feel a strong suspicion that this tech had marching orders to go find X cracks & SELL NEW SYSTEMS.. He did not seem to have my best interests as his goal, and did not do much routine maintenance for MY SERVICE CONTRACT FEE. I did get a quote for a new system from them, and the estimator was professional. But I have a bad taste in my mouth and will get additional quotes to replace my system using another dealer.

Service was called to inspect a 30-year old upper floor system and maintain the ground floor new system. The downstairs one just needed maintenance but the upstairs one needed to be replaced. The serviceman showed me exactly where the upstairs unit was broken. The salesman came out the very same day to give a quote. The company was able to install the new system the very next day. All personnel were prompt, professional and clean.

I had Casteel Heating and Air come out and service the two furnaces in a new home we just purchased. The furnaces are old, 20 years, and our renovation budget is tight. We didn't want to purchase new systems so when the attic furnace failed to light, we were concerned. Shem came out and checked them thoroughly. He installed a new part in the attic furnace and they both are working beautifully. I was concerned that I would be in for a sales pitch for new systems. Shem assured me that they both checked out fine and made a note of a worn part to keep an eye on. I appreciate his honesty and his ability to quickly diagnose and fix the problem. I am using Casteel for all our HVAC needs!

Most recent work completed last week was seasonal service on three systems, but they have been taking care of us in the same house for over 25 years! It used to be young Bob Casteel who came out, but now he has grown and has a well-trained staff. Bob continues to be helpful on bigger jobs. I developed some breathing issues a few years ago and he directed the full replacement of all our ductwork and the installation of excellent air filters upstairs and down. We also switched one system from gas to heat pump and have been very pleased. I hear their ads on the radio now and always feel good that a nice, hard-working guy like Bob has built a successful company.

I scheduled an appointment online for the next afternoon, which was very convenient. I received a reply via email within 30 minutes letting me know that they would do everything they could to accommodate my requested time frame but might arrive a little later than the window requested. I had a very tight schedule the next day so I opted to move the appointment to the following morning - no problem. They called before the technician headed over and arrived right on time. Shem took a thorough look at the system and noted a few concerns. The system was low on Freon so he found the area of the leak and let me know what it would take to fix it. He also noted a very worn part which could cause the system to shut down. He went over all my options and made recommendations. He had the system up and running within 30 minutes. I know the true condition of my entire system and know what to watch for in the coming months. When Spring comes, I'll be calling Casteel again to check out all 3 of my systems. When systems age you need to find someone who is honest and willing to educate you on when it makes sense to repair and when it's time to replace. I trust Casteel.

On June 28, 2011, Casteel's representative Bobby Loebl came out to my house for the purpose of giving me an estimate on the replacement of my entire Heating and Air conditioning system. Despite his promise to have an estimate no later than June 30th (two days later), I did not hear from him or his company over two weeks later - only after I called them two or three times. I spent between 1 and 2 hours out of my day with Castele's 'professional' (and according to him their "Top Producer" - kind of self describing himself as their "Top Gun"). I won't deny he was very smart and knowledgeable. He was. But what good is that if he drops the ball on his promises? The 1 to 2 hours I spent with him I lost from my business. I was honest and up front with him. I told him I was getting 3 estimates before deciding. I stressed that I was a serious buyer and wanted the best provider. He promised an estimate no later than 2 days after we met (by June 30, 2011). NO FOLLOW THROUGH. I called Casteel the week of July 11, 2011, 3 times, the last one leaving a voicemail specifically for the owner. As a post note - On July 17, 2011, I called the owner, Bob Casteel, back. He apologized for the failure of Bobby Loebl, but had no idea why his employee dropped the ball. He offered to get me an estimate, and since I already took to 2 hours with the representative, I said sure, I would look at it. In general, there is no excuse (1) to not keep your word to have an estimate within the time you promise; and (2) not calling in a timely fashion to explain why the estimate might be late; and (3) not quickly responding when the customer calls to follow up. I look forward to seeing what Bob Casteel sends me. If it is handled professionally, I will probably re-grade this company.
