+ 3 moreI called Scott on a rainy morning and he came out that afternoon. He described in detail how he would do the job including the tools and methods he would use to remove the existing wood and how he would install the replacement PVC materials including caulking the backsides of the pieces. He also described how he would access the work with scaffolding and cantilevers to give him access and to protect my roof and gutters from damage. I was so impressed with Scott's proposal that I called and cancelled another request for quote that I had scheduled previously. Scott and his assistant arrived on time and got right to work. Total time for the job was about 15 hours over two days. My stress level during the job was zero and the results are outstanding.
Description of Work: Remove and replace rotted brick mold around three windows. Remove and replace edge boards around three windows. Remove and replace rotted fascia boards at one leaking gutter seam. Reattach loose siding.

When he was finished on Tuesday all the construction clutter was hauled away. Had a large family gathering and the new deck was great. Had a lot of compliments. It looks nice and is sturdy.

+ -1 moreIt cost a little more than I would have liked to pay but I'm extremely cheap. It was a fair price for the work performed. Excellent job, on time, cleaned up all the refuse. Provided plenty of advice on how to finish up the paint and touch up work myself. Saved me a ton of money I would have spent if I had to completely replace the door. I would happily hire Scott again to do any kind of carpentry related tasks for me.

A screendoor he previouzly installed collects debris between the screen and frame. When I complained, he did not seem interested in trying to c orrect it. Also, the price seemed high.

+ -1 moreI was really surprised when I called Acme and a live person answered! I had called several other companies and only received voicemail. I called Acme on a Friday morning and Scott, the owner, came out to give me an estimate that same Friday afternoon! I was impressed with how he surveyed what needed to be done and told me his course of action for completing the repairs, including the materials he would use. I decided to hire him because I liked his professionalism and punctuality. I gave him a deposit and we set an appointment for the following Monday. He arrived a 7:30 A.M. and got right to work! He had everything he needed and worked until the job was completed three hours later. When he was done he made sure everything was cleaned up before he left. I also liked that when Scott noticed something that needed to be taken care of, he did not hesitate to share this with me. For instance, he noticed that my current gutters are too small and I need new gutters. I had heard this before, but trusted the information when I heard it from Scott. Acme handled my repairs while I'm still waiting to hear back from the other companies I called! Not returning calls or following up has always been a big problem when trying to get work done. I'm so glad I called Acme Home Improvement and did not have to deal with any of those issues. I will definitely be using this company again! Thanks Scott!

+ -1 moreIn the process of reflooring my kitchen, the company I hired to do the floors encountered several problems. The greatest of which were rot and termite damage to the structural part of the laundry and storage room. Before we could continue with the flooring we had to get these repairs completed. I found ACME Home Improvement on Saturday morning. I called, Scott answered the phone. He was at my house to survey the problem within an hour of the time we set up the appointment. He was very professional as well as reassuring that this was a fixable problem that could be completed in a few days. He wrote up a detailed description of the work he was going to do and gave me a price.He said that he would start Wednesday of the following week. He completed a job sooner and came Tuesday morning instead. His truck and worker arrived early and got to work. Scott updated me on his progress as they completed each phase. They finished on time and left the environment clean. Scott seems to love his work and take pride in doing a good job. There are other projects we talked about in the future. I am very thankful there are still people in business like Scott.

The way that he explained everything that needed to be done and how long it would take stood out for me. He almost stepped down to the fine details. I would definitely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Acme Home Improvement gave me an estimate for some general repairs as well as some replacement work on a window. They also did some unique siding work.

He then removed the broken window and debris and cut an exact piece of wood to cover the opening. Cleaned up after himself too! WOW! He ordered the glass and installed in the time frame agree upon. I will definately use him again.

Description of Work: We feel quite blessed to have found Scott Rey, owner of Acme Home Improvement, through recommendations on Angie's List. The frames of the front & back doors of our home, as well as a corner of the garage door frame, had rotted, decaying wood. Scott responded promptly to a request for an estimate, and arrived exactly on the day/time scheduled for the estimate. He was professional and kind in reviewing the problem with us. Scott was remarkably knowledgeable, and patient, in explaining what would need to be done to remedy the problems. His patience with our many questions was admirable. He was quite kind in reassuring us that the horrible mold/decay/rot was something that he could rectify AND help prevent future reoccurrence! The lower $ estimate was positively astonishing to us in comparison to the other high estimates we had. Scott explained how he could repair some parts of the project, instead of completely replacing all of the framing involved. [What a contrast to the other "We need to rip out all of this - inside and outside." estimates that we had from 2 other companies!] On the day scheduled for the work, Scott was again punctual, and cheerful. Once again, his professional approach to what we considered to be such a dreadful project, was so very reassuring! With his expert skills, and extensive collection of specialized tools, Scott was able to repair, instead of replace, some parts of the damage, which helped us with lower cost (eg. precise chisel out & removal of rotted wood). Everything that he replaced was with a better quality of wood/material. (eg. cedar installed where decayed wood was removed; pressure treated wood replacement for the sill trims, where the builder had used just untreated wood; vinyl brickmold installed to prevent further problems.) Everything was custom cut with exact accuracy, professional grade quality adhesive used where needed, and even the caulking looks nice. All of this work was done outside of our home, much of it in Scott's "driveable workshop" truck. Scott also helped us out by repairing/aligning the front door (which had never closed well; and replacing the decrepit weather stripping and light fixture (all of this also at a lower price than quoted by other companies.) Then this talented home improvement specialist did 100% of the cleanup!

+ 2 moreWe contacted ACME Home Improvement about repairing our chimney, replacing some soffit and repairing some windows on the front of our house. Scott called right back and setup a time to come out and look at the house. He showed up on time and was very thorough with his inspection. He explained each step of the process, materials he would use and why he uses them. He informed us that the AC unit by the chimney would need to be moved to erect the scaffolding for the repairs and contacted an AC contractor to take care of the move and re-installation of the unit. He showed up on time, performed everything as promised and left the work area spotless. The job was finished ahead of schedule, on budget and we are extremely pleased with the completed work! We have found in our opinion the best remodeling and renovation specialist in Gwinnett County. We will continue to recommend Scott and his crew. When are need arises again he will definitely get our business.

He is an excellent carpenter and his thoroughness and attention to detail are results of the pride he takes in his completed project. Everyone who has seen our new deck has been very complimentary of the workmanship. The worksite was left immaculate--all debris from the old deck, siding that was replaced, scrap materials, etc. were hauled away. + 2 moreScott has completed the work in the basement to support the 1st floor,, added badly needed support to the existing back porch deck, and has added and fixed the metal flashing above that leaking window. Scott has been and continues to be the most professional and conscientious person we've ever contracted to do work on the house. He knows what he is talking about and obviously has many years of experience dealing with all kinds of home improvement work, as well as fixing what's broken. Scott has taken apart the garage and next on the list will be the support work in the garage to fix the sagging roof and improper second story support that was done by the original builder in 1979.This will not be the last time we have Scott work on the house and will recommend him to friends and family. He takes extra time to explain everything in detail to us, why and what he will be doing and answers any questions we might have. His work is impeccable, he goes above and beyond. He's very clean and organized and has hauled off extras that weren't part of the job which has made the job he did complete all the better!
Description of Work: I emailed Acme Home Improvement via Angie's List originally about an issue with a window in my den that had water dripping into it from the top sill whenever it rained hard to see if this was kind of work they did. Scott replied the same day saying to give him a call to schedule an appointment. We spoke and scheduled an appointment for a Saturday and once Scott got here and started talking about my window leak issue and his ideas on what it was and how to systematically determine the cause and fix it I went ahead and asked him to look at some other things around the house that were issues. Primarily a sag in a 1st story floor above a sliding door in our basement, a unsupported center piece between my 2 garage doors that just moved freely due to not being attached to the floor anymore and we also spoke about my back porch structure, adding a deck and fixing another issue in my garage with a support beam.

We hired ACME HOME IMPROVEMENT to replace several courses of damaged siding, some damaged soffit and fascia, and some weathered molding around a few windows and doors on our home. ACME was the only contractor willing to work with what we wanted to do to our home. Everyone else we contacted for a quote wanted to take the easy route and replace everything, good siding and bad, replace all of the windows, then charge twice or three times as much. Scott, the owner of ACME HOME IMPROVEMENT, arrived when he said he would and gave us a detailed plan of what he would do, how he was going to do it and how long it was going to take. Like ALL home improvement projects, there are some things that you just cannot anticipate. On our project, Scott replaced additional damaged trim and fascia, more than he had planned to replace, because he felt that it did not meet his expectations for the finished project and his standards of quality work. He did NOT charge us for the extra time and materials. His price was as stated in the original quote. I know Scott made the additional repairs because he’s a pro who takes pride in every job he takes and could not leave a job knowing that his customer was less than a 110% satisfied with the work performed!
Description of Work: Our home was a foreclosure and was in need of some exterior maintenance -- some of the lower pieces of siding were damaged, much of the soffit and fascia was damaged, and some of the molding around a few of our windows and doors were rotted or damaged.

Description of Work: Replacement of rotted brick moulding and door trim on front and back door as well as 3 front windows. The brick moulding was replaced with a solid vinyl moulding that will be maintenance free. The trim that needed replacing was replaced with cedar and pressurized wood that will not rot. Also, doors and windows including 3 additional windows where caulked.

Asked important question as to what and where I wanted done. Measured and did the other things that needed to be done for a good estimate to be completed. Went over all my options as to replacement to repairing the items as well as the cost with each. Very well knowledgeable about handyman stuff( how things go together).Accepted the bid and set up a time for it to be done. Wrote up EXACTLY What he was going to do(very important as to no misunderstandings). The appt time was 6 days later at 8:00 in the morning ,as it is the only time I had available for him to do the job. He showed up right on time with all the materials and tools needed to complete the job along with an assistant to help him. Went right to work after meeting me and introducing me to his assistant. Quickly went back over the job he was to do and made sure if any changes were to be made before starting work, then went to it. He completed the job a short time later. Cleaned up and showed how everything works right and that as we say is that.

I was impressed with his precisely detailed explanation of the work he would perform indicating his expertise and knowledge in these type repairs. His approach was reassuring and made me feel that I had found someone who knew what he was doing. The work he performed was excellent! The repairs were a good fit with the existing woodwork on the windows and blends well. He also replaced some siding and did an excellent job with it as well. Overall the pricing was good and his advice about whether to repair or replace some things seemed solid and beneficial to keeping some of the costs lower. I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of home repairs. I will definitely use this company again!

The work was completed in a day and every project was done to my satisfaction, expecially the replacement of my porch screens. There were 8 very large screens and all work was done onsite individually for each sreen. The carpentry and screens were replaced with quality materials and the workmanship was excellent. I know I will hire Acme again for future home improvement projects.

+ 2 moreOur experience with Scott Rey of Acme Home Improvement was outstanding. He exceeded our expectations in every way. From the initial contact, when he returned my email promptly, through to the time he left, Scott's communication was excellent. He arrived exactly as scheduled to give us an estimate. He was knowledgeable, courteous and easy to work with. We hired him on the spot, based on his estimate and excellent reviews on Angie's List, and work started the following Monday. He and his helper David arrived for work earlier than expected, set up, and went right to work. They worked constantly & consistently for two days (in extreme heat) to complete the project, going above and beyond to do a perfect job. During the repair work, Scott came across two rotted windows that needed repair, fixed them on the spot, informed us that our storm windows had been working improperly (causing rain to seep in), and repositioned the storm windows correctly. He offered us a reduced price for this additional work, based on our Angie's List membership. We were encountering some unrelated issues inside our home and our insurance adjuster called while Scott was here, asking Scott to take some measurements for him that he had overlooked. Scott very graciously took time out of his own work, spoke with the adjuster, and helped him out. This is the ultimate in customer service, and much appreciated. We waited to write this review until we were sure the debris left for pick-up, was disposed of as promised. Sure enough, the next day, our debris was removed by 10:00 in the morning. The crew from "Good Riddance" were meticulous and used a rake, brush & shovel to clean the debris area, leaving nothing behind. When we're ready to replace our deck, or need other repair work around our house, Scott Rey will be the first person we'll call. We are highly impressed with his workmanship, professionalism, attention to detail, courtesy and expertise. His helper David is hardworking, pleasant and very polite as well. You can't go wrong hiring Acme Home Improvement. Highly recommended!

+ -1 moreMy wife found Acme on Angie's List and saw they were well rated. I called and set up an appointment for later that day. Scott was very polite and professional, pointing out the underlying causes of the problems, and describing alternative solutions. I deal with many contractors at work and wish they were as professional! Scott came the next day to get started. Throughout the job they kept the area clean and tidy. They did the chimney first, in order to beat the predicted rain. All in all, it took them less than the predicted 4 workdays to finish the job, everything was neat as a pin when they finished, and the craftsmanship is top notch. Worth every penny we paid them. I'll bring them back anytime I need similar work done and heartily recommend them to anyone who needs any kind of carpentry done on their home.

Scott, the rep for Acme, gave a detailed description of everything they proposed on the contract. They showed up on time to do the repairs and did a wonderful job. All of the work was done exactly as proposed and they cleaned up the job site afterwords. I would highly recommend Acme Home Improvement to anyone.
