ACME HOME IMPROVEMENT

Given the number of glowing reviews about ACME Home Improvement here, I don't know why they decided to do a poor job on our house. This review will most likely not affect ACME's rating, but I feel it is my duty to let folks know about our experience just the same. We hired ACME to remove and replace the rotted wood on the columns of our front porch for 2650 dollars. We thought the price was a bit high, but based on previous reviews here and ACME's own plan of the work to be done, we figured we'd get a quality job. That is not the case. 12 hours of work total, and we were left with amateur workmanship. From not matching up the original column design, to nails shot through boards with the points exposed, un-caulked nail holes and seams between boards, caulk used to fill quarter inch gaps between boards that were not cut properly to begin with, and generally sloppy caulking, we were really disappointed in what we paid for. The worst part is that some of the most rotten wood was simply covered over. I was advised by ACME that some of the old wood would have to remain as there might have been structural issues, but it never occurred to me that the rotten parts would not be repaired. I brought up that fact and was told that the rot "wouldn't get any worse", and it was offered to fill the rotten wood with caulk. The whole purpose of the project was to get rid of the rot, not hide it. What I am most upset about is myself for hiring ACME without the due diligence of getting other estimates and getting references from other customers. It was an expensive lesson. I was very impressed with Scott and his work. I’ve done enough woodworking to know immediately that Scott really knew what he was talking about. His mobile shop setup and his workflow were excellent. The quality of his work was outstanding and worth every penny. I would highly recommend ACME Home Improvement to anyone.

I called Scott for an estimate and he came out to the house the same day. He explained exactly what needed to be done and wrote up an estimate right there at the kitchen table. Scott has a rolling work shop in the back of a large truck with every tool and material to get the job done. He repaired all of our wood rot, and even repaired a few items not included in the estimate at no additional charge. He started work before 7:00 am and worked through the afternoon. We were impressed by his craftsmanship and professionalism, and would not hesitate to hire Scott again.

Scott was very professional. There was a delay with the insurance company and he was very patient and worked with them to resolve the issue. He kept us updated on the progress and finished in the minimum time estimated.

Scott showed up when he said he would and the work was finished in a reasonable amount of time.

Scott has the patience of a saint. Throughout this job, which should have only taken a week, he was plagued with bad weather which precluded him from getting up on some very high scaffolding and making it impossible for him to complete the job on schedule. He even showed up on some bad weather days in hopes that the sun might appear. He finally finished and we are very happy with the results. Not only did he do quality work with quality materials, but he offered advice on other things that needed our attention as well as advice on companies to use for work that he doesn't do. His estimate was higher than anybody else we spoke with, but this is one of those occasions where you get what you pay for. We would definitely use him again!

Very well. Scott Rey responded to my phone call promptly and arrived on time to asset my concerns. He checked each area to determine what was needed to correct the situation. Scott discussed with me what he would do, what materials he would use and why. He provided a good estimate, which was on target. Scott and his assistant, David French, arrived timely each day and completed the job within the time frame provided. The workmanship is excellent and I no longer have to worry about further issues with the areas corrected.

The owner of Acme, Scott Rey, came to my house the next day after my call and gave me the most complete assessment of the wood rot problem on the exterior of my house that I had received to date. He also proposed a solution that no other workman had proposed; he proposed to actually replace the rotted wood with composite and other woods that were resistant to rotting. I thought that I would have to replace my window and doors to achieve this, but Scott is a skilled craftsman with the tools to replace the wood. The result is beautiful and everything looks like new. Scott and his assistant, David French, were prompt, professional, and very efficient in doing the work. Their truck is so organized that I wanted to take a picture of the inside. They used scaffolding to reach the eave and 2nd floor window, which allowed Scott to maneuver in tight spaces without having to remove the gutters. Each afternoon they carefully cleaned up the site and secured any equipment that had to be left. They worked steadily, despite the heat, and were finished after 3 full days. The repaired areas were prepared for painting and the caulking is extremely well done. I really appreciate the work and professionalism of Scott and David and I will definitely use them in the future.

Scott came out to assess our home's rotted wood issues and gave us an estimate for his repairs. He and his assistant completed the work to replace rotten boards and trim around the top of our two-car garage and around the dormer above our one-car garage. I cannot say enough about the quality of Scott's work. He demands excellence from himself and it becomes very clear very quickly to anyone he consults with or does work for. Also, once he quotes a price for the job, the cost doesn't change. He went to several places looking for pressure treated pieces of wood to trim around the dormer window and could not find boards which were unwarped, so he purchased more expensive cedar boards to use instead without passing on additional cost to us. If you want an exterior project done right the first time, call Scott to get it done. We will be calling Acme again for our next project.

The work was on time, and well done. No complaints..

Very well. Everything was done as promised and on time.

The job appears to be well done. Acme even repaired some of our exposed nails which was part of the quote/contract. The quote/contract including building scaffolding so that the vendor could reach the second floor windows. We agreed to the contract price with the understanding that time and labor would be required to build and dismantle scaffolding since the windows were in a tough spot. At the time of service, scaffolding was not used and all sealant was applied from within the house (without the use of a ladder or scaffolding). Without assembly and disassembly, the service look significantly less time. Price was not reduced upon questioning of the non-use of scaffolding. We would not have agreed to the contract cost if scaffolding had not part of the scope. We did sign an agreement so we did pay the full amount. Contractor was knowledgeable and on time.

This company was quick to respond, on time, and professional. We were very pleased with the siding repair.

Very quick on the initial return call. Was early for the estimate. The estimate,I thought was a touch high, but the materials were first rate, so I went with it. Arrived on time on Job Day., went right to it. Had all the proper tools and materials. Was done 4 hours later and it looks great. No hassle, no problems. Polite owner with a good attitude.

Scott arrived always promptly. He is extremely professional. Cleaned up the work area. Replaced most of the siding around a family room window. Used scaffolding on the site rather then ladders, his large truck was used as a remote workshop.We will use him again in the future.

They finished in about two weeks. They did a good job. He was very thorough. he was very timely and very much available. He did a good job. I think we overpaid. He was very responsive. That's an A easily.

He was on-time and very organized. He documented, upfront, as to what work would be performed and agreed upon timeframe the job would be performed. After the job was performed, the jobsite was left clean. Scott presented a business and professional demeanor and was organized.

Scott did an excellent job for us and we would not hesitate to call on him again. He comes completely equipped and knows his stuff. He is pleasant, arrived on time, explained what he discovered as he removed the rotten wood, explained what needed to be done, and finished on time.

I called Scott and he told me he would call me the next day and advise me when he could come over to look at my problem. He called the next morning and was very professional and friendly. He told me he would come over that day which I was very happy about. He had one appointment first and then would be at my house. Just as promised he arrived just a couple of hours later. He immediately inspected the crack in the ceiling and told me that any repairs needed could be done by me. He gave me the reason for the damage and told me how I could repair it myself. He didn't try to sell me any kind of repairs. He was a very professional and friendly guy. I would not hesitate to use his company in the future.

Scott was great. He is very prompt, works diligently and cleans up after himself. The floor of my garage was actually cleaner when he left than when he arrived. I think his prices are high, but I'm still living in the 80's that way. I'm also willing to pay for good work and work ethics. And his work was. We will schedule him to come back for some exterior water damage repair as soon as the ice and snow melt!

He was great. He was on time and the work was excellent. I would recommend him to anyone.

A job well done! My home looks great---especially my beautiful new sunroom door! I'm very pleased with Mr. Rey's workmanship and attention to detail. Before Mr. Rey began working on my home, he took time with my husband and I to give us a thorough breakdown of everything he was going to do on our home. And, to make sure we were all on the same page, he walked us around the house and again recapped the details. Mr. Rey and his helper were very professional, punctual, and courteous. Mr. Rey takes pride in his work and it shows. I would definitely use his services again and refer him to friends and family.

Scott was early, performed the work on time and on budget. He is extremely professional and does nothing halfway. He is expensive, but worth it if you want quality work with zero shortcuts that will last.
