 + -1 moreMr. Browing is always professional, accommodating and (this is a delight-he's always cheerful). He gave an estimate for the job within a day of my phone call. Then he arrived with his helpers, on time, the very next day to get the job done. It was a tricky job as they had to run the length of a ranch house via a crawl space, and then up into the garage electrical panel. They were finished in an hour! I had expected it to take a lot longer. We have used Browing Electric in the past and have always been very pleased with the work they do.
Description of Work: Added a dedicated outlet to a sewing room (for an iron) because there was not enough amps for an iron, sewing machine and two computers. (It's a house built in the early 70's.)

 + -1 moreThe outlet for my garage door motor has worked off and on for the past year. It finally stopped operating for more than a week at a time, so I reluctantly searched for an electrician. I was reluctant, because the last time I had an outlet repaired I was charged over $250 for work that took only 30 minutes. So this time, I decided to use Angie's List. I found Browning Electrical Services on Angie's List and contacted them on a Tuesday. They initially scheduled to come out between 10-12:00 the next day, but called later to ask if they could come first thing - 8am - instead. I agreed. Mr. Browning and his assistant arrived promptly at 8am and tested the outlet. They determined the primary cause to be loose wiring and found two other minor issues with the switch plates on the same circuit as the motor outlet. They repaired the wiring, replaced the switch plates and tested the door opener. The job took a little over an hour. They were thorough and professional. I also requested an estimate on a meter box replacement, which they provided. Mr. Browning provided the total for the garage outlet repair and said he would bill me. The price was very reasonable compared to previous electrical repairs. I received an invoice in the mail 3 days later and submitted payment. I will use Browning Electrical for future repair work.
Description of Work: Troubleshoot lack of power to outlet for garage door motor. Determined to be loose wiring. Repaired wiring and replaced switch plates.

 + -1 moreUltimately, my house did not burn down - so he was probably right my not being in danger. On the other hand, I had asked him to check it carefully and neither he nor his worker looked at any wiring or even checked my fuse box. His response to that was "The longer I would've stayed at your house, the more I would've had to charge you." He did not follow up, after my call for help, until he read my initial report on Angie's List. Then he called, wanting to know why I had given him a bad report. While he repeated his offer to replace the fixture, he insisted that he had done nothing wrong and said that I should have called HIM back. I told him we just needed to disagree.
Description of Work: I had several lighting issues and asked John to help fix them and ensure that there were no major problems with the wiring. He and his coworker fixed one of my chandeliers, replaced a dimmer switch and checked my ceiling fan. When I called him, I told him that I was most concerned with the light at the top of my hallway. It was turning on and off on its own and I was afraid there was some sort of short. He said that the light in the hallway was fine; it just had a broken bulb in it - which they replaced. I asked him several times if he thought there were any other concerns with it and he assured me that everything was fine. A few days later, I turned the hall light on - it popped very loudly and a puff of smoke came out of it. I immediately called him and asked him to help. He very nonchalantly told me that it was an old fixture and that I should just go buy a new one and he would replace it. I told him I was frightened, since the smoke appeared to have come from my attic and he asked if I had been up there to check. When I pressed the fact that - because I had worried about a possible short - he had been asked to really examine that fixture when he was at my house, his response was that he would have no way of knowing when an older fixture would break. He added that, if I was worried about a fire, I should call the fire department.

He arrived on time, reviewed everything that was on the list and also let me know that some things that they home inspector said, were not necessary. Gave me an estimate that day and scheduled the appointment two days later. He arrived on time for the work with a helper. He completed everything he said he was going to do and then billed me later for the service. The estimate was the same price as the final bill.
Description of Work: They updated the electric to have two hot water heaters installed. He installed gsci receptacles. Also replaced some of the receptacles and did some repairs on the breaker where the wires were connected to one.

 + -1 moreJohn did an excellent job! He showed up at 8:30am and finished the job shortly before 1pm. Once he finished the installation, he went over the breakers to make sure they were marked accordingly. We definitely will use him again.
Description of Work: John replaced the old electrical main breaker panel and breakers with a new box. We originally were going to wait until after July 4th holiday because we would have to arrange to be home during the week for him to come out. However, John called on Friday evening to see what our schedule was and told us he could do the work the next day if we would be available.

One light switch did not work afterwords and he came back another time to fix it. This took a lot of extra effort on his part and I offered to pay him but he refused to accept any additional money.
Description of Work: Mr. Browning installed a circuit breaker box in place of our old fuse box. He also replaced several light fixtures in our ceiling.

My husband and I did most of the prep work, including fishing glow rods through the walls and ceiling first (in order to reduce the cost) and John had no problem with that. My husband has a lot of construction experience (we hired John b/c my husband wanted a certified electrician to handle this particular job) and he found John to be very professional, honest, and knowledgeable. Great service and great work! Highly recommended!

They cleaned up after the job, as well. We have every intention of using their services again. Highly recommend. Job 2: It was great. Mr. Browning and his assistant worked fast and did a few things we'd forgotten to ask him about when he was here before for an estimate. Great guys.

 + -1 moreArrived on time (ten minutes early) and got right to work. He was very diligent troubleshooting the problem. Within a half hour the problem was found in one outlet. Fixed the wiring which included replacing one outlet and one new GFI.
Description of Work: Reoccurring problem with garage circuit. Everything seemed okay but none of the lights or outlets in the garage would work. Others that "claimed" to be electricians were unable to fix the problem.
