We enjoyed working with Frank and getting his ideas on how to build our new deck. He offered a lot of nice suggestions after signing the contract, none of them changing the price he quoted us (which was very competitive). He thought of things that could be done to enhance the deck using existing materials (i.e., eliminating waste) and to make the deck more functional. His experience building decks was clear. The crews showed up on time and were very professional to work with. They also offered many ideas while building the deck, also not adding to the cost. Our deck is over 1000 sq/ft so we appreciated all the ideas. Per our request, they did a nice job cleaning the work area each day so our kids and dog could play outside safely. They didn't seem to mind this at all. We really enjoyed the crew. The negatives:- - Our credit card was charged at each agreed upon interval, except they never asked for authorization. This wasn't a big deal but after mentioning this to them after the first time they continued to charge without authorization. We were not really concerned since they were on schedule and doing a fine job and charging the agreed upon amount. Just be aware in case you plan on using multiple forms of payment (e.g., more than one credit card). - After they finished the project we needed them to come back out to make a few "adjustments". Just normal expected things. They kept giving us a day when they would show up, but would not make it out. It rained a tremendous amount during this period and we knew they were behind and we were fine with that (we didn't have anything that couldn't wait and we trusted them). It just would have been nice if they called to let us know they weren't going to make it out that day in order to set our expectations instead of us calling every few days to check on the next attempt date (they did answer when we called so they weren't trying to avoid us or anything like that). They eventually made it out and gladly took care of everything we asked for. I am confident they will continue to take care of warranty items in the future if any arise. Overall, I would use them again and have recommended them to our neighbors. We really did enjoy the crew and the final product was on-schedule, at agreed upon price, and came out super nice. I am glad we chose Deck Pro. We got 5-6 quotes and found out that most of the contractors were jack-of-all-trades that hire crews that are not deck experts (they may be fine but we were more comfortable going with a deck company). Frank employs his crews and all they do is build decks, or similar projects. The crews work together on each project so they know each other well and know how to work together. Good experience, I do recommend.
Description of Work: Demolished two small decks and built one new very large deck using composite materials all around (floor and rails).

DeckPro was my last estimate of 8 companies that I had collected for our new deck project. I called the office and spoke to Mark who was very helpful and scheduled an appointment for someone to come out within the week. Frank Sr. (owner) was the Sales person who came to the house and really sealed the deal. I appreciated the extra time that he spent with me, especially the quick sketch that he provided to me since I am a very visual person. The thing that I liked the most was the passion that he not only had for his work but also his entire crew which he often refered to as his family. They were able to put us on the schedule within the month. Our project was not an ordinary project since we were putting the deck on top of the concrete slab that was already in the back yard. There were some questionable areas with the existing slab so Frank sent his crew (Joe and Mickey) out to repair the concrete to ensure the stability at no cost. Once they concrete was fixed the deck building crew (also known as the A-team) showed up ready to go! They were lead by Whitney who also seemed to have a lot of passion for what he did. They encountered a problem with the existing brick steps that were to have been torn down and the deck placed on top of. They were able to rent a special tool and didn't complain although it sent the project back a couple hours from their estimated timeframe. They completed framing and came back early the next day to finish the project. The group was very professional and respectful. I voiced my concern about not wanting left over debri since we have two young children and they made sure that there was nothing left once everything was complete. We didn't find a screw, piece of wood or even dust from the beautiful new deck that was installed. We did have a few inspection issues that the county pointed out. I was in contact with Frank Jr. throughout the entire process and he handled all requests and reinspection processes with professionalism and timeliness. These issues were so minor and not comprimising to the structure or the integrity of the project. Just silly little things that Joe and Mickey came back to fix. They were also very professional and fun to work with. We are very pleased with the way everything turned out and would use them again should we decide to have any additional work done in the future.

Sales call was timely, professional and excellent--a great presentation for the company. Collecting payment seemed to be more important that getting the job done, including asking for payment BEFORE the work was done. Had to make numerous phone calls to get debris and concrete picked up, and some of it never was cleaned up. Currently awaiting response to a complaint that surfaced in July--notified DeckPro by phone and letter, but no response at all yet. Discovered 2 air-conditioner problems when we tried to get them to work in late July--falling concrete damaged a condenser and coolant line. Until this complaint is resolved, I am not recommending them or using them again.Too bad--I have more decks that need to be re-built.
Description of Work: Process was pretty good--great sales work by Richard. Two crews showed up, one crew very good and careful, 2nd crew did not demonstrate good judgment with demolition or clean-up. Decks have excellent materials, and look good.

Response from Deck Pro Inc
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your air conditioning units, but none of it is related to DeckPro since we built the deck in December. The two AC units in question were both covered on the sides and the top with ¾’ plywood and no damage was able to be done to them while we worked there as you know because you were there and saw them. I am going to point out that your complaint is in July - 7 months after the deck building and 4 months after AC units are turned on for the Spring/Summer time. The issue of gravel also has nothing to do with DeckPro. The yard was full of gravel before we even arrived to do work, and the gravel by the AC units is from the crumbling mortar and concrete as you could see in the pictures you sent to us. DeckPro did a final walk thru with you and a final cleanup which you were happy with the work and the cleanup. DeckPro standard contracts all include a down payment and payments through the work process and a final payment at the end of the job, which you signed when contracting us for the work and which you paid in full because the work was finished.

Deckpro was very timely in meeting with us for the estimate. Frank Sr. spent a lot of time going over what we wanted and what they could do for us. The price was good and within our budget. We selected premium natural materials and we were excited to have the new deck completed in time for spring. Frank Sr and Jr both showed a lot of pride in the craftsmanship they said would be provided. With a one year warranty we felt that we could trust Deckpro to get the job done timely and with high quality. We were let down. The crew that came out didn't seem to know about the rule of "measure twice cut once". Part of the new sq footage needed to meet up with a bay window wall. The ledger boards didn't have the correct angles cut so they didn't come together flush. They had to redo this after I complained and wouldn't accept just covering the mistakes up. Even after I complained though there are still 1 inch gaps from one board to the next. I've given up trying to get it fixed. During the installation of the new footers the plants and other landscape materials were trampled and scattered around the yard. When I complained the installer made a poor attempt to clean up the mess. The comment he made was that he was a carpenter not a landscaper. I almost told him that he wasn't much of either but I didn't. If you have plants around the project area just expect to add the cost to have them replaced into the cost of the work Deckpro does. The latest warranty issue I had was with the "Beauty Board" in the curved section of our deck. The board that was already stained at installation and is cracking at a knot in the cedar just a few months later. Even though I asked the board be replaced they chose to glue and clamp it. This looks terrible when stained and is a very visible spot on the deck. It's the "Beauty Board" for heaven's sake. Why they didn't replace it is a mystery. I have not received any calls back from Frank Jr about this. I will keep trying though. I still have several months in the warranty. Bottom line. Good price but poor quality. I would not recommend Deckpro for any project.

DeckPro has gone out 6 times to do service work for (member name removed) since the deck was finished. We were asked to replace 16 standard pine boards because of knots, he was told during the sales presentation that only premium boards came with minimal knots, but we replaced them anyhow. The "Beauty Board" discussed was not replaced because it was not necessary the small section was not even noticeable and it would of required 14 feet of hand railing to also be replaced. The landscaping that was "messed up" were the weeds at the bottom of the stairs where (member name removed) wanted the landing to be, the backyard was dirt, weeds and not landscaped. And the cheap black plastic landscaping boarder that was falling apart was not our responsibility to replace. It was unkempt and falling apart before we arrived. We took care of several unreasonable requests such as damaged siding we did not have anything to do with, but replaced anyhow; scratched up bottom of brick mold, but it was water damage not anything due to DeckPro building the deck; the ledger board that was thru-bolted to the house was cut at the 22.5 degree angle and was structurally passable, but we took a whole day pulling up half the deck and replaced the board anyhow. DeckPro has made the decision to not do any more service work for (member name removed) due to the unreasonableness of his requests that have nothing to do with the deck we built. We will still honor the warranty on the deck when it is in the parameters of the warranty. DeckPro has gone above and beyond to make (member name removed) and all our customers 100% satisfied. We care about every one of the 397 jobs we put our name on this year. And even though we jump through hoops to make DeckPro the best DECK Company, we cannot seem to satisfy everyone.

We received several quotes and Deck Pro's was by far the lowest. We researched them and found that they had good reviews and even though we were a little nervous, we decided to go with them. One of the main reasons we chose Deck Pro is that when getting quotes, Frank Sr., seemed to be the only one that actually got our vision for the patio and decks. He drew out an extensive plan and came back on numerous occasions to make sure he had it right. When building, Frank Sr., came over to check on the progress often. At one point, the crew laid the foundation for one of the decks but they had placed it too close to our retaining wall. I went out and told them and without hesitation they removed the boards and placed them in the appropriate place. They did a beautiful job. Our crew was awesome. The deck is absolutely beautiful. We had a few issues with the boards as the weather turned extremely hot after they installed them but they have come out every time I call them and corrected the problem. After deck was first built, they came over to deal with a few problems and Frank, Jr. actually found a few aesthetic issues that we probably would have never noticed. I would highly recommend them.

Deck Pro did an outstanding job enlarging our screened in porch. The results exceeded our expectations. The workers (including concrete slab, carpenters, roofers, gutters and painters) were highly skilled and very professional in their crafts. They cleaned up and removed debris daily. Their knowledge of the project provided good suggrestions. The workers were polite, professional, friendly and took pride in their work.We would not hesitate to use Deck Pro in the future or to recommend them to others. The only negatvie we experienced was that the deadline to begin the project was delayed by about a month.

Deck Pro was on time and courteous from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: We took a bid from Deck Pro. Very passionate about their craftsmanship and their work. Clearly a top choice deck professionals. Can scale each project according to budget. Great customer service! Highly recommend Deck Pro. Also worth noting is the wood used in their projects. They use a clearly superior premium boards in all their construction that is far better than the competition. Worth every penny, but they do offer the same boards other competitors use at about the same price. It's all a matter of project needs. Fantastic design examples. At the very least, schedule an appointment and see for yourself!

We are very disappointed by this company and regret not heeding to the warnings previously posted by Angie's list members. We are in the process of consulting our contacts and consider the possibility of following formal proceedings. Timeline of events: Saturday 1/26/2013 - Mr. Frank Fore (aka Frank Sr) came out to give us an estimate ($11180). He sounded knowledgeable and extremely passionate about his work. He also explained that there were some mistakes made in 2012 due to the company's rapid expansion but everything is back on track in 2013. Therefore, we decided to go with this company even though it has received some of the most negative reviews we've seen on Angie's list in 2012. On 1/26/2013, we made a standard deposit of $1. We were told the project should be completed in 2 weeks. Tuesday 1/29/2013 - Materials were delivered, my credit card was charged $3500, and the charge went through successfully. No actual work was performed. Project did not start until later of the week due to weather. Saturday 2/2/2013 - Second charge of $3500 was made with authorization. Wednesday 2/6/2013 - Third charge of $3500 was made ****WITHOUT**** authorization. This is a ****breach of contract****. According to our contract, this charge was not supposed to be made since the milestone was not met. Furthermore, I was home and no one updated me on the progress of the project; nor did anyone come to ask me to authorize the charge to my credit card. Saturday 2/9/2013 - Fourth charge of $679 was made ****WITHOUT**** authorization. Again, this is a ****contract breach****. At this point the project is not yet completed. All charges DeckPro made with or WITHOUT authorizations went through successfully. Since the middle of the week of 02/11/2013, we have been trying to get a project walk through in order to point out several mistakes that require fixing. Friday 2/15/2013 - Walk through scheduled with Frank Jr (note, not Frank Sr but his son) but no show. We later called him and found out that he could not make it due to scheduling conflict. Saturday 2/16/2013 - Walk through scheduled with Frank Jr but he could not make it due to stomach virus. Monday 2/18/2013 - Walk through scheduled with Frank Jr but he did not show up. This is odd because that morning we double-checked with Frank Jr himself. We called the office and no one was able to reach Frank Jr. Frank Sr later then informed us that during a conversation between himself and Frank Jr, Frank Jr had nothing else scheduled for the day except our walk through at 5pm. Finally, at around 7pm, Frank Jr called us and said he had a schedule conflict (???) and was not able to make our appointment. Tuesday 2/19/2013 - Walk through scheduled with Frank Jr at 6pm. Frank Jr called my husband confirming that he will be at our house by 6pm; however, he was late due to traffic. Nevertheless, the walk through was performed and Frank Jr noted down the mistakes that require fixing (photograph of the note available). Frank Jr further confirmed that he will send a team out on Thursday 2/21/2013 to fix everything. To be on the safe side, my husband and myself arrange our schedule to accommodate DeckPro's work schedule - in other words, we decided that we will both be working from home on Thursday - just to make sure that DeckPro really can deliver its promise. Thursday 2/21/2013 - In light of recent negative experiences with DeckPro, I called the office at 8:33AM to confirm that Frank Jr is indeed sending out his team to fix everything and complete the project. However, I was informed that there is again a scheduling issue and no one will be sent out (No one thought of giving us a call and let us know). My husband was able to get Frank Sr (the owner) on the phone and confirmed that a skilled team will definitely be sent out on Friday 2/22/2013 to at least start fixing the problems. My husband was using the speaker phone and it so happens that I was making a video of our cats - in other words, the conversation was recorded. Friday 2/22/2013 - No one showed up. We called the office, Frank Sr and Frank Jr. Frank Sr and Frank Sr re-assured us that a team will be sent out on Saturday 2/23/2013. Saturday 2/23/2013 - No one showed up. No one at the office knows anything about sending anyone. We left Frank Jr a voicemail. Monday 2/25/2013 - This Angie's list review re: DeckPro reached the company and the DeckPro team became available once again. My husband received a follow-up call in the morning and a team was sent out to complete the project. In the end, DeckPro's team did arrive at our house and fixed up all the problem areas identified in the walk through. In addition, the team proactively added a couple much appreciated features to give the project a finished, refined look. Briefly summarizing, like other Angie's list members have noted, we found it very difficult to get DeckPro to finish the project it promises to deliver. And, like other members, we observed a change in responsiveness after we posted our review. To be fair, the quality of work (craftsmanship) is good. We do wish DeckPro all the best in improving its management and flourish in its future business endeavors. Ratings: Price (C) [Changed from F to C on 2/25/2013] The project was completed. However, we do not appreciate the stress of trying to get someone responsible on the phone to send a team to come out and finish something that was already paid for. Quality (B) [Changed from C to B on 2/25/2013] The field team delivered good work. Albeit giving the inevitable impression of dropping the ball after credit charges were made, the management team was quick to respond and strive to finish the project as requested. Responsiveness (D) [Changed from F to D on 2/25/2013]: self-explanatory Punctuality (D) [Changed from F to D on 2/25/2013]: self-explanatory Professionalism (D): C for the field team as credit card was charged with no progress updates, F for management office – thus the average of D. Overall, C minus.
Description of Work: DeckPro was hired by us on 1/26/2013 to convert our front porch into a screened-in room and build a new side deck. As o 2/24/2013, the project is not yet completed.

The customer has a legitimate gripe. We had 95% of the work done in the first week. However, due to rain and the cold weather we went to finish the job on Saturday. (member name removed) had friends come over and asked if we'd come back another day. It rained the entire week and the following Saturday we had planned to go finish but the crew leader got sick. We were able to finish the job within a month. We had to stain and pour concrete but weather prolonged it. We did finish and they were happy.

Update April 18, 2013 - 4 months later Never got a final walk-thru and there is no warranty on work. Some of the other bad reviews are exactly my experience with deck boards splitting so badly it's not even funny. The very very LARGE splits and cracks in the 6 x 6 posts holding up the deck are incredible. You'd have to see it to believe it. After just 3 months people who visit my house say....Wow.... look at those large splits in the wood on your posts. It looks awful. What a joke. Angie's List seems to be the only place you can find Deck Pro. They are not on Kudzu. Please read over your contract with Deck Pro or any company for that matter- both the front and back of the contract very carefully. Write everything down in the contract that you want built and what you expect too in regards to size of posts, how many boards on the steps, anything and everything you can possibly think of regarding details. Also, in your contract add details on what you expect when payments are due. Please don't let someone tell you what they expect you to pay because you will be stuck on the 2nd to last payment only half way done with your project. Protect yourself just like all contractors do and add your expectations. If they are willing to work with you or want your business this will be a first good test. Watch closely at the payment schedule. It is very very tricky. Do not pay with a credit card over the phone. Always use Paypal so your credit card is secure. A large company should accept pay-pal or credit cards over a secure connection. When you're busy in the middle of a project like a new deck or porch all your common sense about simple things like this may go out the window. As much as we want to trust people you need to protect yourself. Get all the work complete before you make your final payment and make sure your final payment is a LARGE amount of money. If the last payment is just a few hundred dollars your chances of getting the work finished is not likely. Frank / Deckpro does not provide or honor any warranty. We paid for a premium grade deck and should NOT have these types of issues. Issues with the new deck and porch today include the following: 1- People with kids and pets please be aware of this- while cleaning up in the yard 2 months later I'm still picking up hand fulls of nails, razor blades (at least 15 Razor blades) and cigarette butts. Very very dangerous and careless. 2- There are major crack that goes all the way from top to bottom on all 4 sides of all the 6 x 6 posts that are support the porch. The right side of the porch- corner furthest from the house posts is the worst as far as cracks. 3- One step has a crack and is splintering on a step. It needs to be sanded and re-stained because the wood is peeling off the top. 4- They connected the existing 16 year old ledger board to the house with lag bolts every 16 inches "by city code" but they did NOT add any straight-thru bolts. My basement is finished with sheet-rock however, having to repair sheet-rock to secure the deck to my house is much more important than the weight of the deck & porch pulling my house and causing foundation and safety issues. 5. Floor boards on the top of deck especially closest to the house are coming apart so the spaces are getting bigger by the week. Another possible sign the desk is not secure to the house or not supported correctly because we shouldn't have such large spaces so soon. 6. I paid for removable screens. They are NOT removable. Other deck people who have come to my house since this job have said this is the one thing they would like to fix for me but I can't afford it. I have to live with what I have now. I asked Frank and the guys building the porch several times to add a couple extra 6 x 6 posts to give the deck more support as well as suggesting adding double the amount of joists but they just told me it wasn't needed. Things I did wrong: I did NOT speak up like I should have and insist they do this. Regardless if extra posts are needed I'm the customer and I paid 25K for the deck so they should want to make a customer happy. The deck feels too bouncy and feels unstable to me. I even told them I would pay the extra cost to add more support but they still would not do it. I've even asked several times after the finished and they didn't return my emails or calls. The deck is not secure to the house correctly. They should have added straight-thru bolts (they didn't add any at all) and they should have added more joists so the deck didn't feel as bouncy. Bottom line is the deck is not built good enough to feel secure and safe and it will NOT last very long at all at this rate unless I pay to get some repairs made. It is not easy to find someone to work on a brand new deck someone else just finished. Another thing to watch out for with anyone you hire- make sure you get a good 2 feet of concrete footers added under your posts. I had someone measure this for me and they said I only have about 12 inches of a concrete footer. So this deck is already starting to pull away from the house, posts on the top and bottom have huge splits/cracks in them and it's only been months since it was installed. Does my deck and porch "look" good? Yes it does but for such a high price premium deck/porch the cost of this project was just too much to only have something that will last such a short time. Original Review from 2 months ago- I started this project a couple weeks before Christmas during a low peak time for probably most deck & porch builders. The winter is probably the best time to get a good deal as far as price and it's also a good time to get people to show up to do work. Once the weather is warmer and things pick up you might be 1 of many customers for this company or any company to juggle into their schedule. In the beginning of this project things were stressful. Too many details to go into here but feel free to email me if you want specific details or advice on finding a good contractor or working with one (this company or any company) The first crew who worked for Deck Pro showed up in the morning and worked from morning until night to get things going. They did a good job. The day after Christmas progress slowed way down. To be fair there were several rain days and no work could be done but one of the workers had some issues and went into the hospital so things really weren't going anywhere fast. Eventually a new crew showed up since one of the guys on the first crew was still unable to work due to his condition. Things weren't cleaned up at the end of the day and they didn't start the day as early as the first crew. Eventually after a couple of days of waiting around for them to show up and things not being left as clean as the first crew I decided I needed to wait until the guy on the first crew felt better to come back and finish the job. So I waited a while and finally the original crew came back. They weren't able to install the screen I purchased myself. I wanted a solar screen (80% sun block) and it's much thicker than what they are accustomed to installing. Anyway, I think the owner wanted another crew who had more experience installing thicker screen to finish the job. The screen was finally installed and staining complete. The deck and porch are nice but I'm disappointed I never got the opportunity to do a final walk thru and ask them to fix any issues I've discovered. Once I made the final payment this was the end of this transaction. Regardless of how this project ended it looks good and I'm glad I got a new deck and porch and I'm glad I started this project before the busy season for deck/porch contractors. I've asked many times for Deckpro to come back to finish up a few additional items to make this deck and porch complete for me but they refuse to respond. They are not interested in ever talking to us again or providing a warranty because according to the rumors I've heard I was a "difficult customer." I call it like it is and I don't let people walk over me so this makes me "difficult." In the end Frank won because now I'm stuck with a half a** job and I'm having to pay people to fix his work now. Being my own general contractor on all the projects I've done around my house over the past two years from new floors to this project it's been very time consuming. I wanted Deck Pro to come back to add the 2 additional 6 x 6 posts and more support (I am willing to pay for). I wanted them to finish up the louvered fence around the stairs (I am willing to pay for of course), add a new concrete path around where the new stairs are (I am willing to pay for), and do work on my fence (I am willing to pay for) etc... but they won't call back. I'm willing to work with them and get issues resolved but they are not. Whether it's Deck Pro or any company you choose to do such a large project my advice is to GO SEE the companies work in person and actually talk to the homeowners yourself. I think most people would be willing to share their thoughts or give advice on their experience. It's a big investment and you want to make sure you hammer out all the little details before you start a job of this size.

The first thing we will address is one thing [member name removed] said that is GREAT advice and that is to go see the work and talk to the home owners. Frank, the owner at Deck Pro offers that to every customer and rarely ever sells a customer on the first visit. When we took the job for [member name removed] she admitted we were the 40th literally 40th company she had seen over a two year span to get this job done. She even said people at her work were joking with her about hiring a company to do the job. After working with this customer, we can see why. She admits in her novel that she has to be the contractor on all her jobs. How can any company work with the customer hovering over them. Frank Fore has been doing this line of work for over 30 years. Deck Pro won the service award for Angieslist two out of the last three years. Then [member name removed] became belligerent and tempers eventually flared. So Deck Pro did what any other reputable company would do and finished what we were contracted for and wished her Good Luck. As far as never getting any final walk through, Deck Pro was over at her residence several times and went over the job and [member name removed] was constantly changing her mind. Again Frank Fore goes above and beyond for all of his customers. Also she claimed we were not on Kudzu. Deck Pro is one of the top listings on Kudzu. In addition to her comment about the quality of any of our materials, we use Premium Pine from Robbins which is the top grade for Pine in the industry. And last but certainly not least, [member name removed] certainly is not a Deck expert so why would she even think she can judge our company based on her experience. We even had the inspectors and engineers come out and [member name removed]argued with them. They stated this was one of the most beautiful jobs they've seen. We had 3 neighbors come take a look at the job and we eventually sold them. She eventually gave us an "A" on Angieslist but later changed it when we would not do the other jobs for her. On her final payments we had to negotiate and were $680 short of what she owed us. We did everything we said we would do. Again Best of Luck to the [member name removed] but Deck Pro has done over 400 jobs in a year and are on pace to top 2012 this year. If all this is true as [member name removed] claims, why would we have well over 95% good reviews. And Finally if you see everything we did, [member name removed] would owe our company over $3000.

Angie's List was started so you would NOT take the "leap of faith" with a company like Deck Pro!!! After the contract is signed, it was a fight about every little thing. It became very clear that no matter what was discussed during the sales pitch with Deck Pro or what is written in the contract - Frank is only looking to cut corners on everything. I learned that every LITTLE detail must be in the contract with pictures, drawings, etc. I could argue about getting things done correctly only by showing Frank it was written in the contract. If you are going to do business with Frank hire an attorney first. They did not want to replace EVERY footing because some looked OK. They did not want to replace one of the band boards because it looked OK. The biggest problem is the deck poles. I had contacted a number of steel building suppliers and knew about the different thickness of various deck poles that were in the market place. Frank and I discussed the different thickness of deck poles at great length. We even discussed the prices of these poles. Cheap poles were installed. I did not have the exact thickness of the poles specified in the contract even though we discuss the thickness of the poles at great length, hugh mistake. What work the workmen did do was good. Thet did come back and clean up the trash.
Description of Work: I met with Frank and discussed EXACTLY what I needed to have done to fix up my bakc deck. I needed deck poles replaced, new footings poured and the outside upper deck band replaced.

In reply to the member's assertion that Frank was unwilling to fulfill what was written in the contract, every footing was replaced. Everything on this job was built to DeckPro and building code standards and, as the member indicated, the work was done beautifully and in a timely manner. Pertaining to the quality of the posts, this is the same post that DeckPro has used for over 20 years. The size of the posts that DeckPro installed is also a standard for all deck companies. Below is a letter from Builders Steel Supply where DeckPro has been buying deck posts for 20 years indicating that the quality meets and exceeds building code standards. To whom it may concern: I am writing this letter in recommendation of DeckPro, Inc. Builders Steel Supply has been working with DeckPro for many years and we have found that the quality of work that is performed is of the utmost highest quality. DeckPro uses the highest quality industry standard product and materials and follows up with professional installations performed by skilled professional craftsman. I would recommend DeckPro for anyone who is looking to build or rebuild a deck on their home. Sincerely, B. Douglas Mauk President

He was very honest and was black and white with his statements and options. He used correct support structure to make sure my deck will hold up strongly. He built a gate for me in addition with the deck for free. He did a great job finishing the deck. He was able to use the same staircase for the deck, which was not as old. He tore down the railing on the staircase to properly match the deck.
Description of Work: They tore down an old deck (approximately 30 years old). They re-built a new deck for me.

UPDATE: On 1/30/13 Frank Jr. contacted me concerning the original review I had listed on Angie's list. He was calling to offer to send out a crew to replace the top railing and stain them at the same time. After consideration we accepted his offer and from that point on he did everything he said that he would do. The two gentleman he sent out to do the work were professional and did a great job with the carpentry work. I will say that if this is how it was handled originally, I would have no problems giving this company an A or B. We are satisfied with the final product and Frank reassured us to call if there were any future problems. Thank you Frank Jr. For reaching out to us and trying to make things right... I will not get into the details of the entire experience because there are way to many but what I will do is offer photos of the finished work to anyone who wishes to inquire at wildheart17@gmail.com - I am not trying to bash the company in no way but when you are told before the project begins about how professional they are and how they only use top quality products you expect better. Frank Jr. has made several attempts to correct our issues but we are 3 months out and are still not 100% satisfied. I am sure the company will come back with a rebuttal but lets remember pictures DON'T LIE, so please inquire to see the proof yourself... Thank you!!!

IT WENT TERRIBLY!! They did not entirely tear out the old decking (which was a major code violation in a home inspection, under a pending sale) under the sun room. They destroyed the landscape around the deck and built the deck longer than it was supported to be. Complaints to the company have gotten little response! As if this was not bad enough to NEVER, EVER use this company, IT GETS WORSE! During their reckless destruction of the landscaping surrounding the deck area, THEY CUT THE PIPE DRAINING THE BASEMENT SUMP PUMP!!!! THE WHOLE BASEMENT FLOODED IN THE LAST FEW DAYS!!!! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
Description of Work: I referred my mother-in-law (who lives in Marietta, GA) to the company from the Angie's List ratings. They agreed to tear down a large deck and screened-in porch, and replace it and the under support.

We were not hired to tear down the deck or screen porch. We were hired to redeck and rescreen the screen porch. The original framing was not to code so we built it to code and the customer did not pay for an upgrade. We worked everything out with the mother-in-law and she was happy.

I couldn't be happier with Deckpro. Frank and his people are a joy to work with. First,Frank came over and laid out his vision for the project. Not only was this plan better than the 5 other companies I shopped this project to, they were by far the lowest in price. It was a real "no-brainer". When we gave them the "go-ahead", Frank's team showed up early and finished the entire project on time. This is a huge deck, and its beautiful as well. Their work is exceptional and it far exceeds our expectations. I can't see why anyone would use another company.

They left two bags of cement on my deck that have hardened that I can’t move. They broke a flower pot and didn’t tell me; it was in the waste can. They put the nails too close in the posts and split the rails! It looks fine from a distance, but the materials used and the workmanship is just bad. The only thing I like is the design. The crew left cigarette butts all around my property. I've talked to Frank, Sr. a few times, but that has been futile. One guy was sent out, but he said he was not there to pick up the materials I requested removed. I haven't heard any responses since.

Response from Deck Pro Inc
First of all, in my opinion, it is illogical to get a B on price and an F on Quality. Secondly, does it seem strange to anyone else that Deck Pro has to find out about this customer's attitude on Angie's List? She has not called our office one time to complain or ask for anything. We have been proactive in contacting her several times in our follow up, going back on 5 separate occasions (3 times after she posted this review), and have done everything she has asked of us, way above and beyond what we were paid to do. This customer contracted with Deck Pro to replace her decking boards, rails, and steps but we also removed an old dry below system and old floor joists and installed new floor joists for her at no charge. Replacing her old floor joists cost Deck Pro an extra $1500 in labor. When we started there was a very old flower pot with dry rot on the bottom sitting on her deck. It fell apart when we moved it in order to remove and replace the decking boards. After removing her decking boards we found that her floor joists were rotten because of a homemade dry below system that was improperly installed under her deck. This customer chose pressure treated pine for her deck after being told that pressure treated pine always cracks and warps when it dries. She wanted to save money and chose pressure treated pine anyway. As usual the pine rails developed small cracks, not because of workmanship but because of the nature of pressure treated pine. We had already replaced the rails for her (again at no charge) and told her on Friday 3/23/12 that we would be picking up the 2 unopened bags of concrete stored under her deck on Thursday 3/29/12 and replacing the decking boards and pickets she was unhappy with. She then posted this review on Monday 3/26/12. We went back and replaced some pickets and decking boards for her on 3/29/12 as promised and when we had finished, she was very happy and praised our work.

There is nothing I did not like about them. I picked them from Angie's List. The price was great and the workmanship was good. They were fast. When he quoted me the deck we decided that my staircase was much newer and so it didn't need to be rebuilt. He wanted the deck railings to match the staircase railing so he went ahead and replaced the staircase railing for me in spite of that not being in the contract. That was something additional that he did without any charge. He also built a gate for me once again without any charge because it wasn't under contract. He is a professional who takes pride in his work so he wanted to make sure that the whole deck looked good. He took it upon himself to do these two additional things at no cost to me.

I called an left a voice message indicating what I was looking to have done. Frank called me the next day to set up an appointment. He came and spent quite a bit of time looking at the yard and house and making suggestions on the best design. I had to build the deck over my outside basement door but still keep access to the door so figuring out how to do this was tricky. We agreed on a design and a price on Friday and the guys started on Monday. They were clean, curteous, fast (I was home the week they did the work) and knew what they were doing. The deck was completed in a week and is beautiful! Frank Jr. came buy the next week to inspect the work and was not happy with the curved radius on one end of the deck. He also was not happy with some of the boards that were left in the yard. It didn't bother me because I assumed they were coming back to pick them up. It bothered Frank Jr. and he took care of it right away. He also sent someone out to completly rebuild the radius he didn't like and he put some decorative balusters on for me. I've done a lot of renovation at my house and have seen both the good and the bad from the industry. I've not found anyone as impressive as DeckPro. The work they did was superb and to actually have the owner point out things he was unhappy with and personally make sure they were corrected within a week was a FIRST! These guys are great deck builders and uniquely true to their word! It's the best experience I've had with anyone doing work for me!

I thought the price was reasonable, but his workers were horrible. The workers left a lot of cans and trash on the property. I had to ask them to clean it up more than once. It took them 3 trips to clean everything up. The owner had promised me several things and failed to follow through with it. He also charged my credit card before I wanted him to so I had to call the credit card company to reverse the charge. I gave him my credit card number for the deposit, and then he was supposed to check with me before charging for the full project. Some of the pine wood they used was not in good condition, so I called to have them replace those, and it took them a month and a half for them to come out and repair those. When the worker came to do the replacement he was very nasty and disrespectful to me. I had to call and ask the owner to have someone else come out to do the repair. I was very shocked that he was so disrespectful towards me. Be careful to inspect the wood, and make sure it is good quality, before they leave, and make sure to get everything down in writing.

The first day on the job we dismantled her old deck from where it had collapsed into the uncut, knee deep grass in her yard, which was already littered with cans and other trash. We removed all job related debris and hauled it to the dump. On the 4th day we again removed all job related debris and hauled it to the dump. We did not contract to haul away the customer’s existing yard debris which was plentiful. Deck Pro never makes promises we don’t keep. When we finished her project on day 4, she signed a completion form and as per our contractual agreement, we ran her final payment at that time. Two days after completion, I went to her house to investigate her complaint about one of the decking boards. When I arrived, she begged me to give her some more time to make the final payment because of a financial problem. I generously agreed to give her an extra 30 days to make the final payment and reversed the charges myself. She DID NOT reverse the charge, Deck Pro did! We finished this project in 4 days and then spent the next 2 months responding to complaints that her Pressure Treated Pine decking boards were shrinking. Deck Pro only uses premium, hand selected decking. All Pressure Treated Pine decking shrinks. She was told this at the point of sale but wanted to save money. After needlessly replacing numerous decking boards over the space of 2 months and 5 trips, our supervisor told her that none of her decking boards were defective. This wasn’t rude or disrespectful. It was the truth. We replaced the wood for her anyway. When we inspected the decking he had replaced, we confirmed that the supervisor was correct in his appraisal, the wood was not defective. It was Pressure Treated Pine behaving like Pressure Treated Pine.

Overall the entire project went well, from start to finish. We started a day late due to the weather, delaying the completion of the previous project. They actually went above and beyond to assure the job was completed as promised. There was never a time that i needed to reach either Frank or Frank Jr, that i was not able to do so, all calls were returned promptly.
Description of Work: Frank Fore and Frank Jr, were both very professional,as well as the team that worked on the dock. They offered suggestions on the different types of docks, materials and the pros and cons of each. My husband and i were shown docks they had built , and answered questions to our satisfaction. They went the extra mile to see that the project was completed as promised, and we are very pleased with the outcome. The entire team was friendly, courteous, punctual and knowledgeable. We would use this company again.
