When the crew came out, they unloaded all the wood and equipment and started working. I went down to double check the plans were correct with the guy in charge on site. The plans were not as I had specified or as Frank had quoted me for, the stairs were much narrower than I had asked for (they were just making them based on standard stair depth and I had specifically asked for and had been quoted for deeper stairs), so I had them make the changes to the plans while I was there and before they continued working.
After about 4 hours they packed up and went home for the day, which was the first thing that irked me. In the contract I was having to pay for 2 full days of labor because I was told that it would take that long to build the stairs. But yet, after 4 hours, they had all packed up and had left.
I went to take a look at their work and found that they had continued on with their original plans and had NOT taken into account the conversation I had with them earlier. The framing for the stairs were standard stairs, and not the custom depth I had asked/paid for. I called DeckPro and spoke to them about it. They apologized and said it would be fixed the next day. But instead, the following morning I had ONE person from the crew show up to my house to retrieve the tools they had left on site and then he left. When I spoke to DeckPro they said that the stairs were fine and that I was causing a fuss over nothing. I showed them the original contract signed by myself and Frank Sr showing the measurements that were agreed upon and then showed them pictures of the framework on site to show that they did not match. They never came out to the site to see it for themselves.
So now I was left with framework for the wrong size stairs, the rest of the decking wood in piles all over my back yard, and the off cuts and trash from the previous days work were everywhere. DeckPro refused to come back out and fix the stairs, or even finish them until I paid them the rest of the money. I had only paid $500 of the $1200 contract at this point. I finally told him to keep the $500, I'd keep the wood, and we'd call it even. I didn't even want them back after that. They agreed, but this was after several months of correspondence.
Please don't hire them, and if you do, do NOT pay much up front. Better yet, just don't hire them.
- Was verbally quoted 3-4 weeks once the old deck was removed
The job started by Deckpro showing up un announced and delivering materials.
Materials were placed in driveway and yard without consulting the customer to determine the best location.
Had verbal converstations with salesman about what we wanted the deck to look like, deck design was done on a piece of paper at the job site without any review with the customer.
Crew would show up between 10:00 and 10:30 and leave by 3:30 - the job site was 5 miles from their office
Month of September Deckpro was on site for only 18.25 hours, there were 128 work hours in Sept.
After months the customer had to clean up the yard, 7 piles were consolidated into 2 piles - materials and trash.
Since the job took 4 months and the yard was basically barren of any grass requested a courtesy power wash 4 times, it was never acknowledged.
We had two project managers during this project. The first one was on our job for about 1 month. It was then transitioned to a new project manager who never visited the job site. Customer had to call in constantly to ask questions about the work being preformed and ask for updates.
The salesman who sold us the job did not preform a final walk through once the project was completed, this was requested numerous times.
- ETHICAL ISSUES - contract was setup so payments would be made when certain milestones were meet. Deckpro asked if they could run the 3rd payment prior to work being completed. They were instructed not to run the payment as the work has not been completed. Deckpro management decided to run the payment through anyway, disregarding the customers response and the contract language. This is also being reported to the BBB.
"Thank you [member name removed] for the awesome review, please share our name and number with your neighbors when they see your beautiful deck."
