My AC unit at ground floor was not working, I had called Reliable Heating, Air to get it inspected and hopefully fix it. We got a call from their technician and he came in 30mts to my place. Upon inspection of the outside unit , it was immediately diagnosed that Freon leak is happening and freon needs to get added for AC to work properly. I was provided with two sheets of paper explaining why this cannot get fixed. I was provided with a quote for new AC system. Service provider was courteous and he took time to inspect cooling rate after Freon got added. ThanksRagu
Description of Work: AC Unit was not cooling ( out of Freon). Coolent was added as temporary solution, quote was provided for replacement system.

We called to request an emergency, same day visit because we have elderly individuals in the home and they are also sick with an upper respiratory infection (as diagnosed by am emergency room visit for one of the individuals yesterday). We are unable to move them to another floor due to their sickness and physical limitations. I previously had Reliable Heating and Air at my home several months ago on a service call and the experience was ok. A few days ago, I set up an appointment to establish a maintenance contract with them and they were scheduled to come out in a week (due to heavy schedule). When I called them today for this emergency, I was told they are overbooked due to the extreme weather conditions. However, they would not make an exception based on our unfortunately situation. I am canceling the appointment for the maintenance contract and will not contact this company again. Sometimes, priorities should not be set on first come, first serve, but based on the particular situation.

We are sorry we were not able to get to you in a manner which would have satisfied you. We are a little at a loss because even during the hottest days, we were no more than a day or two out and we were fitting in same day emergencies as best we could. We always give priority treatment to our contract customer, people with medical conditions and people with only one system in their homes, for obvious reasons. It's very difficult to prioritize, because everyone is important! But at the end of the there is a finite amount of hours in a day and we can do as many calls as our techs can handle. When it is 107 degrees outside the phone rings 300 times per hour and everyone we speak to is frantically searching for someone who can come right away. I am not sure what time frame you were given for service, but our competitors were 7-9 days out just for someone to come out and look at the unit. All that being said, there's not notation in your file, except that you called to cancel your maintenance visit when the technician was on the way. Ironically that sort of thing is what causes a slot on our schedule to be full, and when someone cancels at the least minute it causes people who could have been scheduled for emergency service to have to wait longer. If you were happy with our services before and were willing to use us for maintenance I am confused as tio why you would give us an "F across the board for services that you did not even receive. It's unfair to us as a company to give us a black mark . I am assuming you were able to find someone to come out sooner. Perhaps your time an energy could be better spent giving them a positive review instead of punishing us with a negative one for something that was beyond our control. We wish you good luck and hope your current contractor is able to meet your needs. Thank you, Kim Jape

My air conditioning was not cooling the upstairs of my house. I went through Angie's List and actually called two other companies first. The second company came out and inspected my unit in the attic. They announced that they would not work on the unit because it had the wrong valve on it. They insisted that I call the company who had installed the valve. That was Reliable. Reliable had worked on my air conditioning five years before and replaced the cooling unit. I had not had any problems in those five years. There was no reason that I did not call Reliable this time except that I had just joined Angie's List and I was going by some good reviews I read. I called Reliable, they came out and admitted that the valve was the wrong valve. They ordered the correct valve, installed it at no charge and then fixed the freon leak. The other company had also found the leak (which was the real reason the air conditioning was not working) and given me an estimate. Reliable charged me around 1/4 of what the other company's estimate was.
Description of Work: Reliable Heating and Air replaced a part for free (see below), fixed a freon leak and added freon to my upstairs air conditioning unit.

A/C stopped blowing cold air. We called Reliable. The technician didn't seem very knowledgeable at all. Was unable to answer even basic questions (or maybe just unwilling)? He said our system needed freon. One month later the pan under our unit in the attic is continuously overflowing. Pipes have been cleaned out several times ... keeps happening. We honestly feel like the freon was added but no "solution" was found. Seems like there is a pretty serious problem but Reliable failed to diagnose. We did not feel the technician was knowledgeable or experienced at all. Just add freon, charge us the $350 and move on. We are disappointed and will be calling another company to come out to truly diagnose the problem with our system.

Response from Reliable Heating & Air Plumbing & Electrical
Dear Member, I am writing in response to your recent review on Angie's list. I first attempted to send this to the email on file but it was returned undeliverable. I hope you'll take a few minutes to read and perhaps some of your questions that should have been addressed will be answered to your satisfaction. I apologize that you feel our technician was not knowledgeable. Kevin has been with us many years and I can assure he has the knowledge necessary to diagnose your problem, and it appears that he simply did not communicate well to you. I had a conversation with him regarding your call and while he did not specifically remember the call, he did say he normally explains his diagnosis to each customer. If it was not explained to your satisfaction I certainly do apologize. Sometimes as HVAC professionals we forget that most not understand the inner workings of an a/c system. Occasionally we need to be reminded by instances such as yours that this information is not gained by osmosis. Hopefully the following will answer some of the questions left unanswered by our technician. The bottom line on any case such as your is that you have a leak in you’re a/c system. It is most likely (95%) in your evaporator coil. Our techs will usually run a simple leak test with an electronic “sniffer” that detects the presence of refrigerant oil and if the leak is detected at the coil, depending on how low the pressures are, we’ll add refrigerant (usually no more than 3 lbs) to get you back up and cooling again. An a/c system is a sealed system. Just like air in a car tire, Refrigerant (freon) does not dissipate or wear out and the only way you'll ever have to add freon is if there is a leak. The only option we have to get your cooling again is to add freon to the system and see how long it lasts. It’s only a short term solution to a larger problem that will have to be addressed at some point. We can have no idea of how bad your refrigerant leak is. The possibility exists that your system could run without incident for the rest of the season, or that it could leak out the same day. We have no way of knowing without actually spending several hours evacuating, recharging and pressure testing a system which would cost you extra hundreds of dollars on top of the original bill to tell you something that we already know…you have a leak. Occasionally a leak will be so bad that you can hear the "hiss" but those type of leaks are not as common as the very slow leak that gets worse over time, or a slow one that is present for a while then gives way completely. To complicate matters for both of us, freon is in its last years of production. The EPA cut production by 45% at the beginning of this year. We have all seen and felt in our wallets what happens when oil-producing nations cut production-the price skyrockets… So the wholesale cost of R22 has tripled from last year, making it more expensive than ever for us both. We raised our price over last year by only $10, which is lower than most companies of comparable size to us. So when all is said and done, in a situation such as yours are options are as follows: 1.adding freon and taking a “wait and see” approach 2.spending time, materials, hours and your money on a leak search. We only recommend this your units are newer and replacement is not warranted 2.refusing to add refrigerant to the system (that generally doesn't sit well with the customer, so we only decline to add if the system pressures are extremely low) 3.recommending replacement of the cooling system I do not see where we have visited your home in response to a water leak..can you tell me when that occurred so that I may check our records? Most water leaks occur when the condensate drain becomes clogged with debris and dirt in the air that mixes with the air and water builds up in the drain. You’ll see a line (PVC or clear plastic tubing) terminating at the outside wall of your home usually by the outdoor unit that continually trickles (low humidity) or flows (when it's very humid) when the air is running. The more you use the a/c the more frequent it can get backed up. If you have your spring or summer maintenance done faithfully each year, it can help prevent some, but not all. Some homes are more prone to clogged drains than others for a variety of reasons. If someone has frequent clogs we recommend that you go into your attic once a month and using the clean-out “tee” on the drain and a funnel and slowly pour a cup of bleach into the drain and that will often help loosen and dissolve the gooey build up that causes the overflowing drain pan. When we do a planned maintenance visit we’ll blow out the drain with nitrogen or pressurized air to loosen anything that hardens or cakes in the drain over the winter when the a/c is not being used. It’s very frustrating for us as a company as we as owners truly do take each and every complaint personally and we want you to have the tools and information you need to make the right decisions on these matters. I truly understand your frustration, and if I was the consumer I would most certainly be questioning as you are. I hope I have given you at least a little information that you can work with in whatever choice you decide to make in the future. It has been my experience that answers usually beget further questions – so if you have any more we’d be happy to assist in any way we can. Yours truly, Kim Jape

We’ve used Reliable Heating, Air & Plumbing ever since we’ve lived in this house. We had our air conditioning repaired four or five years ago. They took care of it and we haven’t had any problems since. They are always reliable. When I call and setup an appointment, they come when they are supposed to and do what they are supposed to. I don’t mind having anybody they send in my house. I feel comfortable. All I have to say are good things. We’ve never had a problem. I will continue to use them unless something happens to change my mind.

The employees were very nice and knowledgeable. Seemed very honest and helpful. During the service, I was told one of my systems needed replaced as it shut down and would not come back on. We set up to have an estimate done for replacement and they finished the work they could and left. Within a couple of days the estimator came out to price the replacement system. He discussed the system with my wife and said he would get back to us about a quote. Now luckily I had a home warranty as I recently purchased the house. I called them out, It took a few days to schedule, I paid my upfront fee for them to analyze the issue. Their technician came out and could not find anything wrong with the system. It was a little bit low on freon, but other wise it was working very well. I got the estimate back for system replacement - the wrong system was quoted, guess my wife should have know which system to tell the sales person to quote?? I then contacted Reliable to discuss the situation with the unit, even though I got excuses, the Service Manager paid me back the money I paid to the warranty company and scheduled us for a free Fall furnace check up. That was a nice recovery. Very apologetic. Very professional I chose Reliable for two reasons. 1. I was new to the area and heard their glowing commercials. 2. I looked them up on Kudzu..seemed okay. Well even though they made good on the money and apologized and offered free service. i'm sorry, I will never use Reliable for anything ever again. Integrity is very big and if you are turning the compressor on and off repeatedly the system , will shut down. Then you can get a new system, which was not even the correct system to quote. This reminded me of getting a car in for an oil change and they tell you the transmission is bad and needs replaced. Maybe nice folks and others may have never had issues with them, but they got two strikes from me, seemed like someone was trying to sell me an AC system.
Description of Work: We had a certificate from the EMC for AC service and we selected Reliable. This was to servcie the AC system only. We had two systems so we had to pay the difference between just one system to having 2.

Hello, It is very difficult to reply to this review since it has been over a year since the incident, and the technician in question is no longer with us. We are not in the business of selling people things they do not need, but unfortunately a misdiagnosed problem can cause a chain of events such as yours. It may be a difference of opinion, however we believe that a company's integrity is measured not by how they behave when everything goes smoothly, but how they react when something does not go as planned. We are not perfect and we do make mistakes, but the reason we have such a good reputation is that we are 100% committed to making things right if something goes wrong. Granted, there will always be some people who cannot be satisfied no matter what you do. However, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who would say we did not go above and beyond to rectify an error., so we're confident in our integrity. It's unfortunate that you would nor recommend over a $50 call, although we were highly responsive to your issues.

This was supposed to be a service call to get an estimate for possible repairs and replacement of three AC/ Heating units. What I got instead was a quick, 5 minute look at my damaged/ non-functional equipment, some measurement of the size my units, a charge for $75 and a promise that someone would call. I was expecting there would at least be an actual estimate for one of the units (of the 3, one is repairable). When someone did call, all they did was offer to send out a salesperson to get me an estimate for replacement of my units? What did I pay for here? I very clearly told the service person I wanted an estimate for the repair. none has been forthcoming. There are plenty of companies who are willing to come out to give me a free estimate for the replacement of my units.Everyone was nice and friendly, don't get me wrong, but the promise to have the $75 applied toward any replacement work AFTER I have to take more time off from work to meet ANOTHER person from the same company is just not going to happen.
Description of Work: Serviceman came out, looked at my 3 broken AC units, took measurements (5 minutes) went back to confer with home office (15 minutes) then told me to expect a call from the home office. No estimate -no explaination. Total bill: $75. Update: spoke with a few people and they showed themselves to be undertanding of the visit and the charge. So, they refunded/didn't charge me. Thanks Reliable!

I apologize for the misunderstand which apparently occurred during the scheduling of the original call. It is our policy when someone calls for an estimate on repairs we schedule a service call. We have always offer free estimates on replacement systems, but on repairs we have to send a trained service technician to assess the problem and there is a charge for his time. However, with damaged units/stolen units its a gray area. Sometimes the units can be repaired, but as in this case they were deemed unrepairable due to the system being left open to the elements. Whether those can be repaired on must be replaced really just depends on the amount of damage caused by whomever is stealing the units We are seeing more and more of this as copper thefts are becoming an epidemic. I am very sorry we did not communicate properly and I can assure you we normally have a very clear understanding between the office and the customer as to what the scope of work will be, but again this was somewhat of a gray area and it just was not handled properly from beginning to end. Typically if you were visited on Friday you would receive a call on Friday to schedule a sales appointment. As far as that is concerned, I can understand your frustration with the process, however we have found over many years it is best for the customer to have a service technician whose pay is not commission-based when it comes to troubleshooting and diagnosis, and a visit from the sales rep when it's deemed that replacement is the best option. It's a large purchase with many options to consider, and we try to discourage rushing through the process. Again, my apologies for the mishap. I truly wish we had the opportunity to serve your needs. I will happily refund your service call, and should you change your mind about a visit from the sales representative please let us know. We'd love the opportunity to make it right. Thank you, Kim Jape - Office Manager

We had 4 companies provide proposals to replace our HVAC system. Reliable's proposal gave us the most product for the least money. The work was completed in 2 days, as promised. There was a crew for the HVAC, a crew for the hot water heater, and an electrician. They were all knowledgeable, personable, and very hard workers. I never saw anyone not busy. The installations were done in an extremely professional manner and, when they left, it looked like they had never been here. I also was able to get a proposal from the electrician for lights for the inside of the garage. He came back and installed them the day after the HVAC installation was finished. A free 2 year service agreement was included as was a 3% discount for paying cash. I must say that I watched these people carefully because this is a major expenditure for us,but I could find no faults. The lead technician kept me informed as to the progress of the job and we were able to make tweeks to the installation as the job progressed. The technicians always took their shoes off before coming up into the house. I am completely satisfied with the work Reliable did for us, and so far, we are very satisfied with the equipment they installed.
Description of Work: A new furnace and air conditioning system with a high efficiency air cleaner was installed. Ducts to 3 bedrooms were replaced. A mini-split heating and air unit was installed in our sunroom. A new hot water heater was installed. Wiring was run to the sunroom for the mini-split. Lights were installed in the garage.

Description of Work: Dustin and Gary called thirty minutes prior to arriving at the house. They laid drop cloths throughout the house before they started their work. Unfortunately this month we had to have our heating and air replaced. Darryl Baker from Reliable came out very quickly and gave us a good quote on a new system. Darryl was very helpful and answered many questions for me. He was able to set us up for a new system to be installed within two days. Mike Cook and Jeremy Hodge came out to install our new system for us. Both guys were very professional and careful of the areas they were working in. Since my HVAC system was 20 yrs old and my hot water tank was 17 yrs old, I thought it would be a good time to take advantage of the 2009-2010 federal tax credit and GA state rebates on qualifying HVAC replacements. Called Reliable for an estimate, and the company owner Dan Jape himself came out to assess my needs. Dan was very amiable, upfront and knowledgeable, did not try to sell me any overly advanced (or overly expensive) units that I didn't need. His estimate was lower than one from another company and fairly close to another so I decided to go with Reliable. Since I had contacted them during their slow season, Dan was able to dispatch an installation crew to my house the very next day! I was home to "supervise" the installation and this Reliable crew did a great job, everything went well, and they cleaned up after themselves so you wouldn't even know they were there. One tech was even able to modify my duct work so I was getting an even air flow throughout the whole house, and solved the problem I was having previously with my old system, and did it free of charge. My final bill was the exact same amount as my estimate, no extra charges. When all was said and done, I couldn't believe how much more comfortable my house was, both in the cold of winter and extreme heat of the GA summer. These Trane units are sweet. And I also couldn't believe how my gas and electric bills had dropped at least 35% in the first year! I now have Reliable doing an annual PM on my system which extends my warranty to 10 years for some piece of mind. I would wholeheartedly recommend Relable for your HVAC needs, they proved their namesake to me. By the way, the cost listed above was BEFORE the tax credit and rebates which totaled $2,000 off that listed price. Pretty good deal in my book!
Description of Work: Installed new Trane XC80 gas furnace, and Trane XLi16 air conditioning unit, Ultravation air filtering system, modified existing duct work, installed new A O Smith ProMax 40 gal hot water heater.

I was very very pleased with reliable, at the price and the quality and the professionalism, the whole deck. The owner's son Jacob and Jake came out and did the estimate and I couldn't be more pleased. I noticed the significant savings. I couldn't believe how they could beat the price.
Description of Work: I used Reliable Heating, Air & Plumbing to put in a central unit.

In 2010 the Federal government had a $1500/rebate on certain HVAC systems that met the requirements. My upstairs unit was dying a slow death after 12 years of service and it just couldn't keep up with the Georiga months in July and August. I figured this was a good time to upgrade. I call several companies for a quote, and I wanted to stick with Trane systems as I have always thought they are the best. All the quotes were fairly similar, but what I liked about Reliable Heating and Air was that Dan Jape actually came out for my quote. For those who don't know, Dan is the owner. I was very impressed that the owner of a large, successful and growing company was still out hitting the streets and selling his wares. Being in sales myself, this earned my respect. He was upfront and honest and recommended the right system for me and didn't try to oversell me. I do my research prior to getting quotes, so I was looking for the bogus add-ons, etc. Dan didn't offer them up, so he earned even more respect. I had some tight deadlines to get the system installed in time to meet the Federal timeframes for the credit. The Reliable team was out the next day installing my system. The team was extremely nice, respectful and extremely professional. They went out to their way to clean up like nothing had ever happened. The new system heated and cooled my upstairs like never before and I was extremely pleased with my investment. So please, I felt my downstairs unit just wasn't keeping up. The question is asked on here, "Would you use them again?" My answer is emphatically, "Yes!" And, to prove my point, I hired Dan and his Reliable team again this fall to replace my downstairs unit. So, all and all, I have spent over $12,000 on my new HVAC systems. They needed replacing, but the 16 SEER systems are far more efficient than my old 8 SEER systems and the investment will pay me back in cash in a few years, but the comfort and quality of the systems I have now are paying me back immediately.
Description of Work: I had my upstairs HVAC system completely replaced after 12 years of service. This fall, I had my downstairs HVAC system completely replaced after the satisfaction I got from having the upstairs unit replaced.

I have used this company for years and only recently seen their service go down hill quite quickly. We've had their service contract 10+ years, where they check the system in the spring for the upcoming summer (air conditioning) and in the fall for the upcoming winter (heating). This spring (2011) they came out and serviced both our units. The tech "sold" me a device that would prevent water/condensation from coming down from our attic in case the drain pan and/or drain clogged. That seemed OK, but within 30 minutes after his leaving, the upstairs AC quit. The next day a senior tech came out to check out what the first tech had done to make the system quit... He stepped through out ceiling! 5 or 6 more calls and related tech error problems, which included failed capacitors and other parts they installed to correct their own problems led us to change to another company (which is highly recommended here on Angie's List).
Description of Work: Service contracts for up and downstairs heating & AC units, plus additional calls as needed.

Response from Reliable Heating & Air Plumbing & Electrical
Dear Sir, We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. Unfortunately it does appear that you had multiple service calls between April and October. I do show that shortly after your maintenance visit we had a suction line port leak which was repaired at no charge. Our records show that we contacted our sheetrock repairman and I trust that was completed to your satisfaction. If not, please let us know. We returned in May to find your system was working properly. In August a capacitor (a very common repair) was performed. 2 months later the same capacitor was replaced under warranty. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to foresee a capacitor replacement. Any number of things can cause them to fail, most likely a power surge. Either way, whether the part failed or was damaged by something external, it was still replaced under warranty. Over the last 33 years we have created a great company with excellent staff and NATE certified technicians, but we are not perfect and have our share of missteps and mistakes, just like any other company. In those rare cases where we have multiple failures, whatever he cause, we find it's best to just keep coming back and try to make things right until you were satisfied. As a long time customer it appears you had many years of reliable service, and it is very distressing to lose your business over this experience. We certainly appreciate your past patronage and wish you the best. If there is anything we can do to make things right please don't hesitate to give us a call or you can email the owner, danjape@reliableair.com.

Last week I returned home to a gas leak. After Atlanta Gas confirmed the leak and shut off the gas, I called RH&A. John was at my house within a few hours, and the new gas line was in place the next day, allowing for hot showers once again. Thank you, RH&A!
Description of Work: Reliable Heating and Air installed a new air conditioning/heating system in 2009. I was extremely happy with the consultation on which system to buy, the installation and am very pleased with the performance of the system.
