Description of Work: Cody came onsight and reviewed the pine fence and stated with stain and a few board fixes it would be fine and work with the newer cedar fence installed. I have exactly 208 Linear Feet of fence. The quote I received showed 217 feet of cedar and 71 feet of pine which are both wrong. I provided Cody with the contract I had done with another vendor on the fence and asked for him to requote and correct the stain to be both sides. I have not received any info back so I feel this company was trying to take advantage by quoting a 2k stain job for 208 feet of fence.

Response from First Fence of Georgia
Unfortunately, the scope of work desired by the customer versus the professional opinion First Fence presented concerning the required repairs and staining were not in alignment. We hope that you were able to work with a contractor that was a better fit for your project.

Description of Work: Going forward I will be certain to read the comments and not just look at the grade given. I chose First Fence based on their Angie's List grade. My experience was quite frustrating. The first two guys who came to install my fence were terrible. They spoke almost no English so communicating with them was impossible. After the fence was installed crooked did I understand how important speaking a common language is when having work done at your home. My lot is pie shaped and I wanted the fence to follow the lot line. The installed asked me "straight to the house?" and I replied "yes" wondering how other than straight would a fence be installed. Turns out he was saying "square to the house" meaning I wanted the fence to align with the house and not the lot whichbleft large triangle shaped portions of the front yard unfenced. Another detail that could have been explained to me was the difference between straight and contour. This was never discussed but when Inreviewed my contract I noticed the "contour" box was checked. This meant installing an uneven fence across my mostly level front yard (looks level to the eye - only close scruitiny would reveal slight changes). Combine this with the fence being installed 5' from the street on the right side of the house andnless than 4' from the street on the right and you have a fence line that looks like it was installed by a child. The initial lead time for jnstalling the fence increased by several weeks so when First Fence called to say they could come the next day, I agreed rather than wait even longer for their next opening. When they came, my landscaper had not cleared to the property line and I was working to clear that myself. The office manager said the crew would need to do it because waiting for me would slow down the install. The charge for them to clear hedges was $75/ hour. I agreed thinking it was a steep price but 2 guys working a 150' property line should take about an hour. What happened was one guy took a chainsaw to the base of the hedges and pushed the trimmings onto my neighbors yard while the other guy took a break in the front yard. When they wanted to charge me for 4-hours at $75/hour, I complained and I dont believe they ended up charging me. My neighbor had a fit about the mess and I spent the next 2 days dragging the brush to the curb for pickup. The posts were supposed to be set in concrete. Some posts had large globs of concrete as wide as 6" and other posts had no visible concrete at all. When I asked about the posts, I was told by the office manager that the concrete was below the dirt so I wouldnt see it. That is when I sent him photos of the enormous globs of concrete surrounding some of the posts. The crew also slopped concrete on my driveway and various spots in the yard. This crew also left debris from the install, cigarette butts and empty cigarette packs randomly around the yard. I made a number of calls to the office pleading for a different crew. Each time I was told this crew was "very experienced" and they would "make it look pretty" for me. Only after completely losing my composure did they comply and send a different crew. The second crew was a dramatic improvement over the first crew and if they had been sent the first time I may have given this company a higher rating. The second crew still did not speak much English which really doesnt matter to me which language the installer speaks - it just should be one that I also speak so we have a mutual understanding. What could have been done better: Better initial consultation by the salesperson. He could have helped me understand what options were available (contour vs. straight, post latch vs. 2 other latch types, what was a "racked" gate) instead of just installing whatever they chose and not making me aware I had choices. This would have also avoided the game of charades with the installation crew as they tried to explain in a language I didnt understand what these things were. When I brought this up to the supervisor he explained that I should have understood fence terminology and known the different latch types because most of their clients have has fences installed before (really???). Better comminication from the onsite crew and supervision of the crew. Walking the property line and marking the location of the fence before installing to ensure it was being placed parallel to the property line. At least one member of the crew should speak the same language as the homeowner. At one point I was so frustrated I asked them to rip out the fence so I could hire a different company instead. In the end they did try to make it right but it's like a broken vase even the best glue doesn't hide the fact that it is cracked. This experience in my opinion was broken and crew #2 did a much better job but to get an A or B in my opinion, the job should be done right from the start. My front gates still dont latch properly and the posts along the driveway are different heights but the thought of dealing with them again is more frustrating than putting the rubber band around the post and the gate to keep it closed and pulling it off when I want to walk through.
