Response from Academy Roofing
To whom it may concern, As of Spring of 2013, Academy Roofing is under new management. Customer service is our top priority and we strive for only A rated reviews. This is how we provide for our family and our employees so we take our reviews very seriously as this can encourage or discourage future business. We appreciate your honesty with your most recent review on Angie's List. We want you to know that our owner personally took several hours to research your experience and see the events that took place leading up to your review. We found that Academy Roofing replaced your roof in 2009. During the re-roofing process the installers were instructed to remove and fill in the power fans. In order to accomplish removing the power fans they cut the wires inside the attic and an electrician was required. We found that an HVAC company was called out as during the installation of the roof a nail struck a line that was improperly ran on the underside of the decking. Code requires the HVAC line to be a minimum of a couple inches away from the roof decking however we see improper installation like you had about once a year. We see that you paid the HVAC and electrician and that Academy Roofing credited $650 off the total to reimburse you. In April of 2011, you called in about a leak but were out of warranty. However, Academy paid to have the leaks corrected that were a result of flashing being lifted up most likely by wind. If a roof is improperly installed, leaks show up very quickly within the first or second rain. In July of 2012, you called in about a new leak but were out of warranty. Academy sent out J.H. Kinard to investigate the leak. It was determined and they wrote up an estimate to clean out gutters and some other maintenance items. This estimate was accepted by you and you paid them. Academy confirmed with J.H. Kinard that the leak was stopped and you were satisfied with the services performed. In June of 2013, you called in about a new leak near a sunroom but were out of warranty. Academy sent out J.H. Kinard again to investigate the leak, they fixed the leak, and found the source was coming from a hole in the chimney according to their records. We am truly sorry you have experienced these issues but want you to know that you have a company that will be here for you. It is rare to find a roofing company with the same phone number and name that has been in business longer than a couple years. 95% of the roofing companies you see today have been in business less than 5 years. Academy just celebrated 15 years in July. We say all this to let you know we are about building long term relationships and making customer service our top priority. During the roofing process there were some unforeseen expenses with the improper installation of the HVAC line but Academy made sure you were treated fairly. Even though you were out of warranty, we paid and/or made sure you had someone to fix any new leaks as we never want to leave our current or former customers high and dry. Looking back over the process, it appears that Academy went out of their way to make sure you were taken care of either directly by Academy or by a reputable company. We would love to know what we could do to rectify the situation so that your review would go from a F to an A as that is what we strive for on a daily basis.
