Floyd and David are professionals at what they do. I had a staircase that was messed up by the last contractor. My home is over a 100 yrs old and I had the wood for the project but these guys brought the idea to life. The final stair case looks as if it was build in 1906. The quality of work is past what I expected. I've already scheduled them for another project which involves some old doors for you home. The project took a little longer that expected but it was forth the wait. The up front estimate was nearly spot on.
Description of Work: repaired and refinished stair case.

I have used Woodchuck Woodworking in the past. Once again, I entrusted family heirlooms into Floyd's care. He and his partner carefully and meticulously repaired, refinished and hydrated each piece where indicated. He also custom built a tray to fit into one of the bars so that I could re-purpose it. He had to deal with pieces which had been in storage for several years and had not at all been properly stored or protected. He was also able to complete the job earlier than anticipated. I have referred Floyd to others who have also loved his work and I will never use anyone else in connection with any sort of woodworking needs I have in the future.
Description of Work: Restored and refinished 2 heavily hand carved bars and a carved chest.

The team was thorough and took their time when they came to reinstall the cabinets, making sure that everything fit perfectly. At first, they were only going to remove the center section and work on that at the shop. However, when they came to dissemble our unit, they felt that they could do a better job, taking out all of the cabinets so they could match the top piece perfectly. They were easy to work with and the finished product is great.
Description of Work: He took out my corner cabinet and remade it so that it was at the same height of the rest of the cabinet unit. He painted all of the cabinets and remade the hinges.

Floyd was very professional during both the estimating process and the refurbishing process. He kept me informed during the process and called once to explain some additional repairs that needed to be done, not included in the original estimate. He was almost apologetic when he had to inform me that these additional repairs were going to cost an additional $40. The actual process time, from the time the secretary left and then returned to my house, was actually much shorter than he had anticipated. In the end, the secretary looks the best that I have ever seen it. It's true color is back, and the repairs he made to it make it serviceable again. Since this is a family piece, I've shared pictures of the restoration with my sister and cousins, and they all say that they never realized what a beautiful piece this is until now. Floyd really brought it back. I'm so pleased with his work that I'm talking with him about restoring a 1940's record player/radio cabinet that belonged to my uncle.
Description of Work: Floyd restored a 1930's secretary that has been in my family for many years. I thought it needed to be refinished, but he realized and suggested that it just needed to be cleaned and reconditioned. He also replaced some veneer on the desktop of the secretary that looks fantastic.

Floyd and his partner were fabulous to work with. They were able to complete our very large custom desk within our tight deadline and do it incredibly well. He even met us at a local wood supplier so we could pick all the boards we loved the most AND he was able to achieve our weathered multicolored look by applying 2 different stains. We were impressed with his craftsmanship, punctuality and friendliness. I'm ready to hire him to create some custom cabinets and built-ins for the rest of our house.

It went without a hitch. I will definitely utilize the services of Mr. Fowler in the near future.
Description of Work: Floyd and David performed yeoman service. A true professional, and very detailed oriented. All for a reasonable fee. My project consisted of built in window seats for a breakfast nook, and a window seat with smoked glass to conceal TV and stereo equipment. I preferred a simple design, and Floyd delivered. We are more than pleased with the results.

Mr. Fowler did a great job for a good price! I sent him a message through Angie?s List and he got back to me the same day. It ended up being a week or two before he could come out to look at the work, but I always take it as a good sign when someone is busy like that; it means they?re in demand because they?re good at what they do. That was definitely the case with Mr. Fowler. Even though he came all the way out to my house to look at the furniture, he told me something I could try on my own to make the wooden slides work better. I appreciated the information, but had my heart set on swapping them out, so we moved forward with that. He thoroughly explained everything he was going to do and how long it was going to take. He finished everything on time and contacted me several times throughout to update me on the progress. The sideboard looks great and now I can open and close the drawers with ease. Mr. Fowler is professional, friendly, prompt, and great at what he does.
Description of Work: He swapped out wooden drawer slides with ball bearing slides. With the way the furniture was built, this required the drawers to be rebuilt and extra supports to be added to the interior of the sideboard.

The project took longer than expected, partly because the size of the project exceeded ones Floyd has done before, and also due to personal plans each of us had over this period. This was not a problem... we wanted it done right rather than rushed... and Floyd got the job done beautifully! We wanted the bottom storage sections and crown molding to match our new kitchen cabinetry, which Floyd captured nicely. He also shimmed and adjusted as necessary for uneven flooring in our older, settled home, which proved to be an unexpected project challenge. I really appreciated the lively exchange of ideas during the design phase, and the free exchange resulted in a superior wall unit as a result. One feature was lining the back of the glass sections with a cork-like material and covering this with a fabric that coordinates with the room, to allow both hanging some collectibles against the back as well as laying them on the glass shelves. Floyd's openness to suggestions is wonderful... the project never hit any unpleasant bumps as a result. Our only criticism is the final finish. The painted surface isn't as smooth as we would like. In a perfect world, we would sand and repaint with foam brushes -- although ideally, a unit of this type should be spray painted for the best finish. We didn't think of this in advance, and have accepted the unit as is. Some day we may sand and repaint the top edge of the glass section below the crown molding, which shows a little too much transition in the wood.
Description of Work: Large wall unit -- roughly 15' x 7' -- with three section types (bookshelves, entertainment center, and enclosed glass cabinets) -- with enclosed storage on the bottom third of each (drawers behind doors designed to match our new kitchen cabinetry).

We had a wonderful experience working with Floyd. He took our ideas and offered suggestions and guidance while still keeping with our original intent and function for the project. His estimate was detailed, easy to understand and (best of all) accurate. Floyd was professional and the quality of his work is beyond that of any contractor we have ever worked with on any project. He met all deadlines, completed the project right on time even though we had a few changes and he was working with a third party for part of the project (upholstery). This was very important to us because we had a newborn who couldn't move into one of the rooms in our house until this project was completed. We would definitely use Floyd again and actually plan to later this year, as soon as his schedule opens up. I would highly recommend him for any custom woodworking project you may have.

Mr. Fowler did a very good job with refinishing the items, particularly the kitchen/dining room table and a lamp table. Mr. Fowler stained the dining room table the wrong color due to a misunderstanding. When he brought it back and discovered the discrepancy, he took the piece back and redid it. The final finished product was gorgeous. Three items in total were stained--dining table, coffee table and lamp table. All came out great.
Description of Work: Mr.Fowler came to my home in late August to assess my furniture. I wanted to have several furniture items stained and refinished. He gave me an estimate, which I thought was very reasonable. We set up a date for 10/1/2012 where Mr. Fowler would pick up my furniture. Mr. Fowler stained and refinished the pieces that we discussed.

I called and left a voicemail for the company around 9/20. Floyd Fowler returned my call within one day (perhaps on the same day, but I honestly don't remember). He was able to come to my house within one day to take a look at the project. He was on time - actually, he even accommodated me getting stuck in traffic and was therefore running late to meet him. He was professional and friendly. He described the work required, talked me through the timeline (he had a few big projects going and indicated he could complete by project by the end of October). I paid a small deposit ($35.00). And he emailed me a copy of the invoice that night. Floyd contacted me a couple of weeks later to update me on the status of my project (he'd purchased the materials). He then called me about 7-10 days later to let me know that my drawers were complete (ahead of the timeline originally quoted). He was able to schedule a time to come install the drawers within a day or two. He arrived on time, completed the work quickly, and confirmed that I was satisfied with the final product. Floyd was professional, prompt, responsive, and did a great job!
Description of Work: Built two sliding drawers, to match four existing sliding drawers, inside of a custom cabinet. Moved two of the existing sliding drawers down to have space for the new drawers. And installed the new drawers.

We mapped out the design, he sent over drawings for approval and kept us up to date on the progress even sending pictures. Floyd also did a nice job working with the company we contracted to install our entertainment system to ensure the components fit and there was proper air flow. The job went off on schedule and as planned although with any custom work there were a few hick-ups that we worked through nicely. Thanks Floyd!

It was a 4-week process just to get an appointment with this guy. Then he canceled one appointment and was a "no show" for the rescheduled appointment. His work may be great, but he cannot keep a commitment to an appointment. I wish he had just said from the outset that he was not interested in the work I requested, rather than keeping me wait for a month before I realized he really didn't want to do the work.

Mr. Fowler was very prompt to come out and review my situation. On that visit, he gave cost estimation and we were able to schedule the repair. Due to his busy schedule it was to be a couple of weeks before the work could get done. I was ok with this because busy to me indicated that his work was probably good. Luck for me, Mr. Fowler was able to find an opening a week earlier. He was able to coordinate with my Mom and get the work done.I am very pleased wtih the work not to mention Mr. Fowler's professionalism.

I chose Fred because of his professional manner, how knowledgeable he was about my pieces and the work that needed to be done as well as telling me the method he would use to accomplish this-hand sanding-. I was very attached to the pieces and would have been heartbroken if the job had not been done with care. Floyd picked the pieces up and delivered them ahead of the deadline he quoted me. He kept me informed every step of the way and did not take weeks to complete the work. I am very pleased with the job he did. In fact, I have scheduled work on two more solid wood pieces 75+ years old. I would not hesitate to use Floyd for all my woodworking needs and to recommend him to friends and family.
Description of Work: I had a solid rosewood dining table which seats eight, a broken dining chair and an old carved wood African chair. that needed restoration. I called and received l estimates from vendors on and off Angie's List. I met with each to see the professional demeanor as well as discuss restoration methods.- hand sanding instead of a chemical stripping process.

The process was extremely fluid and went very well. Floyd began the engagement with a 90 minute cosult to examine the 7 pieces of the desk, hear my vision for the desk and discuss a gameplan. During the 90 minute consult, Floyd and I discussed the history of the desk and how he could make subtle changes so that it could accomodate computer, telephone and speaker cables (things that weren't desk-relevant in the 1960s). A day or so later, Floyd emailed me a project plan/roadmap with a schedule to manage my expectations. At Week #2, Floyd checked in to give me an update re progress. At Week #4, Floyd called to schedule delivery and assembly. At the close of Week #4, Floyd arrived and executed a 75 minute long delivery and re-install. Floyd reassemble the desk and installed it in my office.
Description of Work: Floyd refinished, customized and created structural supports for a rosewoof and leather 1960s mid century modern desk. Floyd customized the desk by raising it 2'' and Floyd machined, stained and installed new structural supports to: a) replace the supports that were damaged when the desk was moved from California to Atlanta and b) give the desk a bit more structural rigidity. Floyd also 'refashioned' the desk so that it would be easier to disassemble/reassemble.
