It went very well. Woodchuck worked around the install of our floors and the built-ins came out exactly as we wanted. They look so good in the space, people who have come to our home often do not realize they are new.
Description of Work: We had a full wall of built-in bookshelves over closed cabinets installed surrounding a fireplace in our living room. A desk was included on one side.

The Woodchuck Woodworking team was an absolute dream to work with. They were quick to respond to my inquiry, quick to come and measure the space, flexible in figuring out what would work with our pricing, knowledgeable in our desired the look of the piece, able to quickly install and came back quickly when we needed a piece tightened. They are very easy to work with, personable and I would definitely use them again.

I could not have been happier with the outcome. The piano had sentimental value but was no longer playable (cracked sound board). Now it is a cherished piece in two family households. The bar came out beautifully and is featured in my son's home. The keyboard wall hanging is noticed and commented on by everyone who comes into my home.

? ? ? Both projects had beautiful results. The shelving looks like an architectural feature in our loft living room. The desk is both beautiful and?functional. They performed the work at our loft when we were away. Upon our return, the desk and shelves were completed and the loft was in very good order. The project was scheduled and completed on time.?We expect to use their services again. David and Floyd?were very collaborative during the planning/designing phase and a delight to work with. We're so pleased to have a company we can trust and is also very good in every aspect!

Woodchuck Woodworking of Atlanta produces genuinely custom furniture. If you can design it, they can build it; and if you can "almost" design it, they will help you complete the design. And once the design is finished, it is, so to speak, never finished, since they evaluate pieces as they build them to ensure the design genuinely is what you want, genuinely will function as everyone hopes, and does not include features that compromise or otherwise detract from the original plan. Example: the width of one bookcase easily accommodated the two framed-glass doors with its four legs, the other bookcase -- as they began to see -- would not, hence added two extra legs (front and back) in the middle of the bookcase. Perfect solution, and not something I had considered. The corner cabinet for the plaster bust was designed to perfectly accommodate the height of the bust, but Floyd stepped back and considered that several more inches of headroom inside the cabinet would let the top of the bust and thus the bust as a whole "breathe" better. Again: Perfect solution, and not something I had considered. But it's an imperfect world. Not a problem. Whenever we had questions or suggestions during the construction, they always listened and considered them just as carefully as they had the original design. After pieces were completed, if something was not what we expected, they made special trips over to check and correct whatever it was or to offer suggestions of their own. Even after they had moved on to the next piece, if an earlier piece needed a tweak (bookcase door not closely perfectly flush), they would come out and tweak it. That is, Woodchuck Woodworking makes sure the piece is what you wanted and is more than reasonable it their willingness to work with you as things progress. They take pride in their work; it's obviously as important to them that you get the beautiful piece you imagined as it is to you. That said, be careful with your design, since they genuinely will produce the piece you agree on. If they do detailed drawings to work from, examine them carefully, every dimension, every feature, and ask questions if you have any; they will listen and respond and, I might add, never complain. They are detail-oriented, and their finished products reflect it. So make sure you understand the details as well. You will be glad you did, and happy with the furniture. It truly is custom furniture. To that end, namely, to ensure everything turns out well, they will send you pictures as the work progresses. We could not be happier with the furniture (and the workbench as well). It's gorgeous, and some of the pieces frankly came out better and more handsome than we had anticipated. Be patient. Woodchuck Woodworking is a small operation offering extremely personalized attention. They try to stay on schedule while being subject to the same unforeseen circumstances as the rest of us. When they turn a piece around immediately, it's great; when a piece takes a bit longer, it's also great. It's worth the wait. We obviously used them for several pieces (see above) as return customers, and would continue to do so. In fact, we have already recommended them to friends and to the contractor who built our custom home.

I am thoroughly pleased with the work that Floyd and David did in my home. I commissioned them to build a window seat into the bay window area of my living room. I knew what I wanted the finished product to look like, but unfortunately did not have a picture depicting exactly what I wanted. Floyd and David both listened to my thoughts and gave suggestions that turned out to be quite valuable. We discussed the project over the phone, then they came out to measure on two different occasions. The second time, they had a sketch of what the finished product would look like. We communicated by phone and email. I gave the team a 'B' on punctuality because the final installation date was beyond the projected time. Apparently, their previous job ran longer than anticipated. The finished project was definitely worth the wait, so I gave them 'A's in all other categories. I had several other carpenters come out to give estimates, but none came close to this team in terms of professionalism or knowledge. It was apparent to me that Floyd and David heard me and understood what I wanted. Well done!

Our house came with open spaces in the family room and upstairs hallway for built-ins so we engaged Woodchuck Woodworking to design and build custom bookshelves and base cabinets for these spaces. We requested quotes from multiple vendors on Angie's List, but selected Woodchuck because of their experience and pricing. Floyd and David were very knowledgeable and great to work with. They provided great ideas for the spaces, but were also flexible with our suggestions. The built-ins turned out great and we would definitely use them again for future projects.

Our new king-size sleigh bed is beautiful, but the head and foot boards were so snug against the mattress that it was a real struggle putting on sheets, covers, quilts, etc. Woodchuck made us 2 new bed rails that are 6 inches longer than the originals. They used solid maple (originals are pressboard/veneer), and matched the color stain and finish perfectly. The extra 3 inches on each end allow easy access, and they look great. A perfect match to the headboard and footboard as if they are the originals. Floyd and David are highly skilled craftsmen who obviously take great pride in their work. A+ in every category but price, ( B - still good). Their quote for the job was the highest of the three that we got, but their excellent product and high level of personalized service were absolutely worth it. Once again, you get what you pay for! Would not hesitate to recommend Woodchuck Woodworking for your woodworking project, and will likely use their services again in the future.

I have a 100-year old house in Grant Park and had a vision for kitchen cabinets that didn't look like cabinets, but furniture akin to my beautiful family antiques I love. I wanted the kitchen to feel like the rest of the house. I wanted it to feel inevitable. It's a tough space, very small and all doors, windows and corners. It was and is hard to explain. When I saw the final cabinets installed, I called Floyd immediately and said one word: Perfection. He is an amazing artist. He was very patient throughout the process and was very flexible in his schedule meeting me on weekends. He came up with great ideas for both form and function that improved upon mine. I couldn't be happier with my experience with Floyd!

The Woodchuck Woodworking company is excellent. Not only were they reasonably priced, but also very courteous and flexible. One of the legs on one of my dining room chairs split and needed to be re-attached. A small job, but I never got that feeling from Floyd. He repaired by chair in just a few days and it looks great! Floyd even showed me a piece of furniture that he build himself based off something his sister had in her house. I would definitely recommend Floyd & if I ever have need again, he will be the first person I call.

We contacted Floyd to build a custom built-in desk and overhead accompanying shelves. Floyd came over to provide an estimate and was very helpful in providing ideas and feedback on what would work best for the space. During the consultation Floyd gave creative ideas to help solve our space issues. He built us the perfect desk for our space with a very usefully and resourceful pull-out drawer for our printer. We are very pleased with the desk and all of its' components. Floyd was very easy to work with throughout the whole process. He was professional and always communicated to us accurate timelines for completion and delivery. It was a pleasure working with him and we will definitely use Woodchuck Woodworking for future projects.

From the original contact to the finished product Floyd Fowler and David Speer (Woodworker Floyd) were a pleasure to work with. Always professional, polite and exact with their design and work. They are craftsmen and their work reflects the pride they have for their trade...Coming from a family of contractors, finish carpenters and hard working men, I have nothing but praise and satisfaction for the work that was completed in my home. p.s. They actually vacuumed after they job was finished..

Floyd and David were wonderful to work with. We tasked them with a fun challenge of building a wine storage alcove in an empty space under our stairs -- it is located in our dining room but the wall where the alcove was going went under the stairs -- and making it look somewhat hidden by blending the cabinet doors into existing trim in the dining room. They walked me through all of the steps and what would happen when throughout the project. I liked that they took their time to evaluate, measure, brainstorm, discuss and sketch out the full project. During the last quarter of 2014, my goal was to have it completed by the end of the year, and they were very forthcoming about a busy schedule in advance to make sure expectations were set, which I appreciated, and, in the end, they were able to execute the project before my deadline. They had great ideas and we are very happy with the refined look of the alcove. There was one adjustment that we asked them to take a look at after the project completion, and they jumped right on it and accommodated our request. Thank you!

I came across Floyd on Angie's list as well as some other contractors, but from the start Floyd was much easier to work with than any one else I contacted - very prompt in his responses and very easy to work with. This continued for the length of the project - Floyd never missed a beat and proved a true professional. He recommended a source to use for the hard surfaces on the bottom cabinet tops that turned out to be great as well. About the project itself - we were very pleased with the work he did and are extremely happy with the end product. The best way to describe my thoughts about Floyd are this - when I work with a professional contractor I expect them to bring ideas to the table to make it special; in addition I look to them to work out creative solutions to any issues that come up in the process. On both counts Floyd scored an A. As we worked through the design Floyd brought some ideas to the table the really added nice features to the work. When I compare his work to what some of my neighbors have done I feel his work is quite a bit superior to what they and their contractors did. Of course in the installation process we came across some interesting problems - specifically the ceiling was uneven and varied by over a full inch in the two separate bays where we were installing the cabinets. No fears (well some anxiety I admit) but Floyd had a creative and elegant solution to our builder's errors and not one person to date has been able to notice the difference in the two bookcases. I would highly recommend Floyd to anyone looking for some carpentry work as I found him a pleasure to work with and true craftsman.
Description of Work: I hired Floyd at Woodchuck to build some custom built-in bookcases around a fireplace in my living room. The house I am in was bought as a builder foreclosure and had a few unfinished details such as these bookcases in my main living room.

Floyd and David are professionals at what they do. I had a staircase that was messed up by the last contractor. My home is over a 100 yrs old and I had the wood for the project but these guys brought the idea to life. The final stair case looks as if it was build in 1906. The quality of work is past what I expected. I've already scheduled them for another project which involves some old doors for you home. The project took a little longer that expected but it was forth the wait. The up front estimate was nearly spot on.
