My condo building is only wired for cable service (no telephone lines) and thus there is no competition amongst telecom providers. The Comcast internet service is pretty fast but you pay dearly for it. Unlike places like Chicago, where there is competition amongst cable companies and 75 Mbps internet is available for $50 (no contract), the prices Comcast charges are incredibly high. The service has been reliable and I have had no issues with customer service.

This service call was the result of numerous calls to Comcast over the last 3+ years complaining about dropped cable signals sporadically throughout the day, but principally mid-afternoon (when kids in the neighborhood are most likely to gobble up available bandwidth. Needless to say, the addition of amplifiers did not stave off the connection drops. And, needless to say, we were charged for needless hardware. This has been going on so long - and I have circulated this problem to other neighbors and even to other Comcast customers outside of our local area - and there is an undercurrent of feedback that says Comcast is simply not able to deliver the bandwith and, in our case connectivity, during peak usage periods. This is pure speculation on my part, but given the number of service calls we have had and the array of "fixes" Comcast has trotted out without a solution, it would appear that they know what the problem really is and just can't fix it. But they still gladly accept our check every month. Whatcha gonna do?

So here I am 2 1/2 weeks later without cable. Another appt. has been set up for June 11 and I am expecting the same tale of whoa about the high signal. Whatever that is. I just want to pay and get my cable but that is asking too much from the bureacracy of Comcast. And can you imagine calling a few times per week going thru the same bs questions and all they want to do is upgrade your service and you are just begging for some basic service. What is the little person to do?
Description of Work: They were supposed to install cable TV to my new condo. Waited and when they arrived I was told the signal is too high they cannot install according to their specs. A work order was put in for their maintenance crew to correct. They had 72 hrs to respond. My next appointment was scheduled for 3 days later. Once again I sit and wait and guess what, nothing was done.

It took 6 days and multiple calls to finally get a serviceman to our home. There were multiple calls to the HELP line, speaking with several individuals who were physically located in another state and who were extremely difficult to understand due to their difficulty in speaking English. The actual service man was able to fix the problem in a relatively short period of time and was very pleasant. The service telephone line was very slow, lacked knowledge and generally 'didn't care'. Unfortunately our primary service is with Comcast and switching vendors is nota good option.

I got these services then had to move for work about a month later. I was asked to return the box. I went to the location to return the box and the line was out the door, filled with belligerent customers. Once I got inside I realized what the problem was: there was only ONE person working at a desk that had window spaces for at least 6 people. They had no signs to tell you where to go if you were there for something specific and nothing was done in an orderly manner. After standing in line for an hour and a half on only getting barely inside the door, I left.

When I first called Comcast I was told that I would have to wait 4 days for the technician. The technician was supposed to come on a Thursday between 8 and 10 am . I was planning on going to work after the technician arrived. When he did not arrive by 12:00, I called Comcast. I was told that my appointment had been moved to Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 without my consent or knowledge. When I complained, the representative told me he would escalate the matter to his superior and try to get someone out later that day. I stayed at home the entire day waiting on the call and technician to arrise. No one called me and no one came. That night, I received a robo call reminding me of my Friday appointment. Comcast has horrible customer service so I should not have been surprised by their utter lack of courtesy and responsiveness. They truly do not care about their customers. I will be cancelling my service and recommending that all of my other friends do the same.

TV quality is visibly improved and now excellent. Internet so far is absolutely reliable and is 15-20 times faster than our previous Earthlink DSL (which had become flakey and could not be fixed even with new hardware.) The combined cost is much lower at about $100/month. The only problem is they never strung up the new cable! After two weeks we called, and they said there was no work order. It's now almost a month, and the cable is still lying on the ground. . .
Description of Work: To add internet to our TV cable service, they ended up making two separate visits and running a completely new cable from the power pole into the house. They also had to put in a new cable box that worked with the RGB inputs in our middle-aged TV.

After many many years as as Comcast customer, whom I recommended to friends, the company has gone from the best customer service to the worst. I cannot reach anyone on the phone who has any idea of what customer service is about. Comcast advertises that if you schedule an appointment and they are more than two hours late, you will receive a credit. Good luck on ever getting this. They also advertise that they will help make your move easy when moving to a different residence. This seems to be a way to get a service person to your house and bill you for the call. TV service and internet service have been OK. Hope I can find another one.
Description of Work: Phone representative promised to provide additional services and lower my total monthly charges. This was a complete fabrication. When I received email a few minutes later the cost was about 50 per month higher than the representative quoted. I immediately cancelled the new plan but cannot get anyone to fix the overfilling.

The problems began when we moved to a suburb of Atlanta. We cancelled our service. Comcast requires that you return the equipment (cable box, router, etc.): they will not collect it. MOREOVER, Comcast will NOT cancel your account with them until you return their equipment (which you have been renting, in our case, for 3 years). Instead, you must return said equipment (SO VERY VALUABLE, APPARENTLY) to one of their service centers (more on THAT option later). And so, we obligingly called to cancel; you CANNOT cancel your service more than a month in advance, and so, because the WAIT on the phone for service was over 20 minutes, and we were very busy preparing for our move while working extra hours to pay for the move, we had to schedule a cancellation at the latest possible date which happened to be prior to our move(June 4). Because we would not be using Comcast in our new home, we were required to return the equipment (cable box and router). The online person in some other country offered to provide boxes for the return. Two boxes BUT only ONE label arrived. We called for a second label. We were promised said label and reminded of the deadline, but the label never arrived. One month later, several calls later, and NO label for the second box ever arrived, and after more than 45 minutes, a Comcast operator ("this call may be recorded: PLEASE RECORD IT!! ) informed us that the previous promise could not be fulfilled and so, well, back to square one. So...Comcast continues to charge us; we continue to call them; we continue to be put on hold. We get a number for a "supervisor" (they do not exist) and are put on hold. We have photo evidence: 1.5 hours before we give up. We mail the ONE box via our favorite UPS office (never had a problem in 3 years); COMCAST has no record of its arrival. We deliver the second box IN PERSON to one of their centers (after waiting in line 45 minutes), get a receipt, and STILL Comcast has no record of it and refuses to recognize its own internal recordkeeping system. We assumed the return label was significant. We were told it was. We used it. We are continuing to be charged the monthly "service" fee. We contacted the FCC (the committee overseeing "telecommunications") and have heard nothing from OUR govenment. Who says this is most intrusive government and BEST economy ever? Not me. No one is even trying to be honest or to check up on the thieves as far as I can tell. Consumers like me use Comcast because it's really the only option. Were it not a monopoly, I WOULD NEVER recommend it. Best wishes to those of you in its grip. It only gets worse....
Description of Work: We had a contract with Comcast for phone, cable, wireless internet for 3 years.

First, the only reason I checked "YES" to the question "would I use them again?" is because I may not have a choice just like this time. There are no other cable companies in my area for competition. What I ordered and what I got was not the same thing. I ordered cable TV online with the assistance of the "Live chat." For 3 TVs I wanted an "Anyroom DVR", a regular DVR and one "Anyroom Outlet" to be connected with the "Anyroom DVD." This was confirmed in writing during the chat with the rep. who told me the next rep. I chatted with would make sure the "Anyroom" DVR was added to the order. Then she transferred me to a second rep. also by CHAT. The 2nd rep., supposedly in another dept., was unaware that I had already placed the order with the 1st rep and began the process all over. So I started over and told her what I wanted and she confirmed (in writing again) what I wanted and again told me the same prices that the 1st rep had quoted. She then set up the installation date and I assumed everything was set. (**as a side note I've had a previous relationship with Comcast and their Business Internet division. I had their internet svc. in my home for about 18 months and was supposed to be set up on the auto payment plan each month by credit card. Not once did they get it right during the entire time.) Also, the 2 friends I asked about their opinions of Comcast told me the product was fine but the customer service was horrible. Since my own experience with Comcast customer service was unsatisfactory, I planned to save the "Chat" sessions as back up in case Comcast somehow messed up. However, the sessions were ended by the reps and closed so I couldn't copy them and save them. When I received the email confirmation, the price seemd to be what was quoted so I assumed the order was correct. When the installer showed up (on time) his order showed: 2 regular DVRs and 1 DCT (plain receiver that cannot be connected to a DVR.) So only 1 of the 3 pieces of equipment was correct. In my email it appears the newly scheduled installation to change the equipment will generate more installation charges and the monthly charge will be higher than the original quote. Surely, I'm not the only one who has huge issues with Comcast. Not only is their equipment inferior to DirecTV and Dish Network but they can't seem to get anything right with their customer service and it appears they don't care. The only reason I chose Comcast over satellite is because I'm temporarily renting a house and the landlord doesn't want a satellite dish installed on the roof and the dishes installed on poles leave a permanent cemented pole in the ground.
Description of Work: Installation of 2 DVRs and one DCT (plain cable box.) Ordered: 1 "Anyroom" HD/DVR, 1 "Anyroom outlet", 1 regular HD/DVR The installer was an independent contractor, did not work for Comcast directly, and was very good.
