Empire Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. was founded in 1985 and is an independent dealer for American Standard, Amana, Daikin, Bradford White and many more product lines. We solve heating, cooling, water heating and indoor air quality problems for our customers. Our technicians have earned the Angie's List Super Service Award 15 times. Our main office is located in Decatur, Georgia with a satellite office in Cumming, Georgia to serve the greater north Atlanta area. We service, install, and repair all makes and models of heating and air conditioning equipment including ductless systems and heat pumps. To maintain our high standards, all of our senior technicians are NATE certified. Together, our team has more than 200 years heating and air conditioning experience. Empire performs background checks, random drug tests and even personality profiles along with continuous customer service training to ensure you have a pleasant and worry-free experience. We are active in the contracting community and participate with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, Conditioned Air Association of Georgia, MAACA, ASHRAE and other professional organizations to stay on top of the issues that concern you. The installer (Keith and Dell) was on time, and we were very pleased with their work. They removed and disposed of old equipment and left the area clean. I would recommend Empire to my family and friends.
Description of Work: A complete air-conditioning unit and coil were replaced in our home. After securing several quotes and proposals from other companies, we decided to use Empire. The salesperson, Chris Adolph, was very helpful in our decision making. We wanted a Trane, and Chris explained that American Standard was among the reliable brands reported by Consumer Reports and faxed us the report. The American Standard air-conditioning division makes consumer and commercial systems under the Trane and American Standard brand names. Empire is rated as one of the topic Htg. & Air-Cond. places when it comes to customer service, and there were no complaints or concerns reported to the Better Business Bureau in the last 36 months.

The representative was very nice and informative. He arrived at the appointment on time, and seemed to do a thorough job assessing the house and my needs. In the end his estimate was higher than the rest of the estimates I received, which is why I went with another company.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from them for replacing my entire HVAC system, including a new furnace, new duct work, and a new AC unit.

Empire was very helpful on the phone when I explained my problem and unusual situation. They came out and gave me an estimate in a very timely manner. I give them credit just for that, as my installation was going to be a bit out of the ordinary, but they came out anyway. I did end up getting two other estimates, and they were the second least expensive company. Although I did end up getting the installation from another company, I did appreciate them coming out, and I suspect that their work would be acceptable.
Description of Work: Empire came out to my home and gave me an estimate on a complete heating and air installation.

Great combination of price, quality and service. The salesperson, Robert Owen, was on time, diligent and easy to deal with. When a piece was missing that needed to be installed, he promptly brought it to the site himself so that the work would not be held up. One small communication problem caused a several day delay in the connection of the gas to the furnace, but this was not an issue since it was 90 degrees outside. Overall, I was very satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Replaced existing heating and air conditioning system with new furnace, AC unit, and media air cleaner. Added some manual dampers to existing ductwork, and balanced the system.

The technician was actually ahead of schedule, which was fine by me. Service was $90 first unit and 80 for the second. Freon was 62 for the first pound and 18 thereafter. They accepted the Angie's List $20 off coupon. Felt they were little pricey, but work was perfomed to satisfaction.
Description of Work: Service 2 cooling units - replace filters & fill-up freon.

The Empire repair man came when they had promised and did the work efficiently. I was surprised by the increase in the price of the Freon, for which they charged $62. For the first pound and $18. For each subsequent pound (a 30 percent increase in price since the beginning of the summer), but I checked the web and found that Freon prices everywhere are skyrocketing. The repairman recommended a new system, which was reasonable since ours was 23 years old. We had Empire give us a bid, but we went with another company because Empire's least expensive option was considerably higher than the company that we decided to use. I will submit a report later on that company.
Description of Work: A contact on the compressor had been blown open, and Empire had to replace it. We also discovered that the compressor had continued to leak Freon, so we had to add a pound.

Billy came out to check our A/C for 2 problems, not cooling properly upstairs and we thought the fan was out of balance due to a bad vibration in the room above the unit. He immediately knew what the problem was. The contractor had left a piece of paper near the fan and it got caught up in the fan. He then checked our outside unit and discovered that the unit was over heating and causing the upstairs unit to shut down. He ordered the part and returned to install it. The guy who came out before we called Empire wanted to charge us $300 to put pads under the unit and sell us a service contract. We are so very pleased with Billy and Empire. Billy was straight forward, very knowledgeable and a really nice guy. We were so impressed that we now have a service contract which, by the way, was not pushed on us.
Description of Work: Had to replace a part on the AC unit.

Even though we called during a heat wave, Empire was very responsive in getting to us that very day. They were super courteous, and their technician correctly diagnosed our problem. Our unit is under warranty, and it was determined that we should call our contracted service company to make the repair. That company, which we have paid annually for 4 years to service our furnace and a/c, had put us off for 6 days, and when they did arrive, they couldn't find the problem. I showed them the information that the Empire technician left behind and these clowns then fixed the unit, following the Empire recommendations.
Description of Work: They correctly diagnosed a problem and recommended a solution regarding our air conditioning unit.

Not the cheapest, but definitely the most professional and knowledgeable of the 5 companies I checked out. Work was done in March and so far, except for one issue that was that was promptly resolved the system has worked great through the HOT summer so far. There is still one unresolved issue with a rebate, will report back on that.
Description of Work: Installed completely new heating and air conditioning units. Only the air unit lines were not replaced.

Empire was excellent. I called them on Monday, July 14 and Comfort Advisor Chris arrived at the appointed time on Wednesday. He was very professional, did not attempt to oversell and provided the unit brand I requested. Plus, he was just plain nice. He inspected the old system before we selected the unit I purchased. He arranged for a Friday installation, as it was very hot at the time. The installer arrived on time and completed the work in the time frame promised. I would not hesitate to call Empire again and recommend them with enthusiasm. In fact, I plan to transfer my service contract to Empire when my present one expires.

Our air conditioner broke on Friday before Memorial Day weekend. We called Empire, and they agreed to come out the following morning (Saturday of a holiday weekend), for $180. The service tech was puntual and very polite. He did his work quickly and kept us informed of everything he was checking. He then had to order a part (the control board) from the manufacturer and came back the following Saturday to install it at no extra charge, because we were unable to meet him during the week. We were very pleased with the work done, and although the price was high, control boards are expensive. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: He restocked our outdoor unit with coolant and cleaned the unit up. He also replaced a control board on the blower unit in the attic.

Though initially the appointment was set up in the wrong time-slot for the day, they quickly remedied, and the technician showed up on schedule. He was very professional and performed his job well.

Very good. The rep was soft spoken and reasonable, also polite.
Description of Work: Empire's representative inspected our two air conditioning and 2 heating systems. Changed the filter for air, which we have on hand. He said the smaller condenser outside the house needs cleaning, which he can perform presently. We agreed and he cleaned it.

We were satisfied. The charge for the service call was $78. (as compared to $99.00) at Estes, and the cost of the freon was $40. The technician arrived when the company said he would, and Empire was able to get to us almost a week earlier than Estes would have. The technician merely added freon. He made a strong pitch for our buying a new system, but that's understandable since ours is 23 years old, original equipment.

Very satisfied with service from the phone rep to the tech. Really appreciated the time the tech took to explain the air conditioning system and how it worked. As the new owner of an older property with an old system, I also appreciated the techs recommendations on maintenance and realistic projections on the system's remaining life span.

I called another HVAC tech. They put 6 pounds of freon in. They said the leak was probably getting worse, but the freon may last until next year. I called and spoke to the owner of Empire. After a very short and quick conversation, they returned my servicing fee of $75
Description of Work: They were called for routine service. Unit was not cooling. Last year it was serviced, tech put in some freon- and it worked the rest of the summer. Empire told my wife it was the condenser and that they would call a salesperson out to estimate. Cost could be as high as $3000. I asked Empire to put in some freon. They refused!! They said that it would be a waste of my money b/c the condenser would not deliver the cool air. I pleaded for them to waste my money! Freon was much cheaper and it would at least satisfy my curiosity. What happened to the customer???

I had hired this company to come in and inspect my two furnace units. He had taped up some holes on my units that my home inspector recommended that was waisting energy in my attic. Replaced the filters that needed to be and filled the freon level to the recommended levels. Just a reminder, if scheduling online, call back sometime if you don't hear from them. I ran into a problem that they didn't receive my service request online. I won't give them a lower grade, because who knows who was at fault. It was possibly my own fault. Once I called, they had scheduled for the next day and were very nice.
Description of Work: Annual inspection on dual climate units. The tech had topped of the freon level that was slightly low.

Empire called me to let me know the tech was running behind which I really appreciated. However he arrived very soon after anyway. He was very professional. He serviced my system, and without additional charge reattached my duct (under the house) and check the remaining ones for me. I signed up for the annual service plan ($154, amt paid at time of service) which included work performed and an additional service trip in the fall. Highly recommended, very satisfied!
Description of Work: I needed a duct re-attached to an air vent that had come completely loose. Plus, I wanted to have my heating and air system serviced as I'd been in my house for 2 years and not had this done yet.

My HVAC wasn't blowing cold, so I called for a technician. I was advised that rather than pay the out-call fee of $75, I could arrange a service+maintenance visit or $89. The appointment was made quickly and courteously. The technician called ahead and arrived spot on. He was efficient, clearly expert in his field, and had a van supplied with all the parts he needed. He found an over-flow pump that had shorted out, and a burnt out fan motor. Replace both and was finished within 2 hours. Very nice interaction. My AC is now frosty!

THEY HAVE BEEN EASY TO DEAL WITH. THEY GOT VERY BUSY, AND WE CALLED ABOUT THE AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEM WHEN IT STARTED TO GET COLD, AND THEY TOOK ABOUT A WEEK, MAYBE TWO. WHEN WE CALLED THE FIRST TIME THE GENTLEMAN TOLD US THAT IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO GET THE SERVICE CONTRACT THAN PAYING FOR A CALLOUT, WHICH WE DID.

I THOUGHT THE CREW WORKED PRETTY WELL. THEY HAD ONE MAIN GUY THAT WAS IN CHARGE OF THE INSTALLATION, AND HE DID FINE. THEY WORKED FOR A WEEK STEADILY AND DID IT AT A TIME WHEN WE DIDN'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT BEING TOO COLD OR HOT. THE SALESPERSON, ROBERT, WORKED WITH ME, AND WE CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION THAT WAS HELPFUL IN SAVING MONEY AND DOING A GOOD JOB. AFTER THE FREON RECHARGE IT JUST DIDN'T LAST. ALTHOUGH THEY COMPLETED THE SERVICE WE ASKED THEM TO, THEY DIDN'T REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. I FELT LIKE I PAID A LOT TO NOT GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. I WISH THEY HAD FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE LEAD INSTEAD OF JUST REFILLING IT.
