Empire Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. was founded in 1985 and is an independent dealer for American Standard, Amana, Daikin, Bradford White and many more product lines. We solve heating, cooling, water heating and indoor air quality problems for our customers. Our technicians have earned the Angie's List Super Service Award 15 times. Our main office is located in Decatur, Georgia with a satellite office in Cumming, Georgia to serve the greater north Atlanta area. We service, install, and repair all makes and models of heating and air conditioning equipment including ductless systems and heat pumps. To maintain our high standards, all of our senior technicians are NATE certified. Together, our team has more than 200 years heating and air conditioning experience. Empire performs background checks, random drug tests and even personality profiles along with continuous customer service training to ensure you have a pleasant and worry-free experience. We are active in the contracting community and participate with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, Conditioned Air Association of Georgia, MAACA, ASHRAE and other professional organizations to stay on top of the issues that concern you. The scheduler was able to get us an appointment before we left on a weeks vacation. The technician arrived after the slotted time (3-5pm) but it was a late appointment and Friday traffic in Alpharetta, so his earlier delays before us contributed to the lateness, and I was glad he showed up. He quickly and professionally surveyed the unit (inside and out), determined that the unit was low on freon, took a reading which proved to be correct and filled the unit as necessary. There could be a leak, but if it has been 4+ years since the unit was last charged with freon, it should last the same amount of time. If not, then they can look for the leak, which is where the company we had look at the unit last fall wanted to do without even checking the freon level or putting in freon. Overall I am very happy with Empire and will use them again.
Description of Work: Upstairs A/C unit was not keeping the rooms cool and a week ago we found the unit frozen (inside and out). The technician added freon to the A/C condenser unit.

To the technician's credit, he was very honest and friendly. Unfortunately, during the service call, he tripped over one of the A/C unit wires in the attic damaging the transformer to the unit. He promptly notified us, then replaced the transformer at no cost. Upon completion of the job, everything appeared to be working until we later tried to turn off the affected A/C unit. The unit wouldn't turn off without using the circuit breaker. We called the contractor. They promptly sent the technician back out the next morning. After checking the system, he determined the wall thermostat wasn't working correctly, but felt it wasn't related to the damaged transformer. He offered to install a thermostat with no service fee involved, but would have to charge for the thermostat. I declined, and installed the thermostat on my own. The system then worked correctly.
Description of Work: One of our two A/C units wasn't providing cool air. The technician performed a routine checkup on both A/C units, then determined the non-working unit needed additional freon. Freon was added and the unit then appeared to work correctly.

We initially had technicians from several companies out to examine the air conditioner, which was performing erratically. It appeared that the problem may have been a dirty evaporator coil, but the coil could not be easily accessed to confirm this. Since the air conditioner was 16 years old, the coil over 20 years old and the furnace over 30 years old, we decided to replace the entire system. The cost was as estimated and included a $200 discount for Angie's List plus a 1-year maintenance agreement. The warranty was 20 years on the heat exchanger, 10 years on the compressor, 5 years on other parts and 2 years for labor. The installation was completed with no problems and is saving us about 35% on air conditioning and 20% on heating. Our only complaint would be slowness with paperwork, some of which wasn't completed until the day of installation.
Description of Work: Replaced existing system with an 80000BTU variable speed 2-stage furnace with 80% efficiency and a 3-ton 14 seer 410A air conditioner with matching coil, all American Standard products.

The people at Empire were lifesavers this time. It was in the middle of winter so I called Empire and asked them if they could come out and help me. They immediately sent out a man to find out what the issue was and he determined that I had a clogged filter in my unit. He replaced the filter and the system worked like new. I will always use Empire form now on based on their professionalism and dedication to seeing the customer is always important.
Description of Work: Empire replaced a clogged air filter in my heater which covers our 2700 square feet home.

I cannot accurately quote what Empire charged me, but I will say they charged me a very affordable rate for the work they did. I would highly recommend the services of this company to others. I continue to give them my business because they treat me like a valued customer and they charge fair rates.

Bill discovered and reattached a loose wire that apparently never had been properly attached. A competitor firm had serviced this unit for about ten years without noticing the problem. Although he was not responsible for the failure properly to attach the wire, Bill covered the service call under our warranty on grounds he should have discovered and corrected the condition as part of his April 11 service visit. I consider this an example of superior client service and recommend him and his firm accordingly.
Description of Work: Bill Holtzendorff returned 05/01/07 to determine why the unit he had serviced on 04/11/07 was no longer cooling. Despite the fact that the air handler was functioning. We did not discover the problem until 04/30/07 and phoned Empire that day. Bill came within 24 hours of our call.

Overall, very well, once the technician actually arrived. A service dispatcher called me at my work office an hour before my scheduled appointment time to say they were on the way right now. I told them I was not available early, that I was leaving work to be there between the hours we arranged previously, as scheduled. Then I was called once I arrived home and told the technician was lost, with no working cell phone, so a dispatcher called to get location directions to relay back to him.....ugh. He arrived an hour later...but within the 3 hour window for arrival...after I flagged him down by standing out front. I suggested using Mapquest or Google maps for location help in the future or get better directions...I gave the company detailed directions and location help when I first booked the appointment.
Description of Work: Heating and A/C check-up. Indoor unit fan/condenser checked, filter replaced, and they left a spare for me. Freon, pressure, and temperature checked for optimum service and efficiency on the outside unit.

This is my third experience with Empire. This time was no different. They were terrific. Chris explained the system he recommended and why, gave me his estimate, including the number of workers and how long it would take. Everything happened exactly the way he said it would. The guys were great. They were polite and careful about keeping the gate closed, and great with my dogs! Empire was not the lowest bid, but I felt good about the products they recommended and the way they went about the work. I will use and recommend them again and again.

The sales person, Robert Owen, was very kind and helpful. This was a second estimate we received and he offered to have a technician look at our system for free as a second opinion to determine if it should be repaired or replaced. Turns out replacement was the way to go and they replaced the entire unit in a day.

We were very pleased with Moncrief's work on the project. We took four bids and we went with Moncrief because they recommended keeping our current metal duct work instead of installing flex ducts like the other three companies. They stated that there was no reason to change the best duct work available, just clean it. They also recommended the best units for OUR house not the higher end units recommended by the others. The highest bid was $21,000! Our system has worked great this winter and Moncrief came out to check on some issues for free when we had a question. They also installed the system while we were out of town without any problems.

It was important that Mary Ellen called me at work so that I could meet the technician. I really appreciate that gesture. The technician did not give up, even when the problem appeared to stymie him.
Description of Work: My heater started blowing cold air over the weekend. I also noticed that the flame was burning intermittently. It would flare and then go out. I called Empire and spoke with Mary Ellen, who was very pleasant. Since I was at work, she called me when the technician was on the way to my home. He was waiting when I arrived. It took him some time because one of my roll-off switches was malfunctioning. He told me it was unusual for that to happen. He replaced the switch and now my furnace is working just fine.

Chris James, the Empire Service technician, diagnosed the problem right away as a faulty circuit board. A replacement was ordered and was expected in in a couple of days. It failed to arrive as expected but it was not Empire's fault. The manufacturer had a computer failure on the day it was ordered and lost the order. Empire followed up and the new board was shipped right away and promptly installed by Chris. The system now works perfectly and we are very pleased with Empire's work. We are impressed with their knowledge and professionalism and will certainly use them again.
Description of Work: There was a problem with the control of the heating system. Sometimes when the set temperature was reached the fan would not shut off, resulting in cold air being blown and cooling the house inadvertently.

They were responsive seeing that another company called us back a week later. I had to pay over the phone, because I was out of town and they where very accommodating.

They were on time and called ahead to tell me they were coming. Technician was nice although somewhat lackadaisical. He did fix my issues and even pointed out and issue with my dryer vent and told me how to fix it myself.

On the day of the appointment Empire called to see if I wanted the technician to come ahead of time. The technician was very professional and quiet. Talked the minimum necessary. Helped me access the electrical box because I didn't have power for a section of the condo. Offered advice on calling an electrician. Angie's website shows a coupon for service calls or repair. But the technician said they accept coupons only for repair work.

Fantastic, worker showed up, on a Saturday, right on time. Did exactly the work requested and then proceeded to better attach my vent hose allowing for faster drying and less clog/fire risk.

They were excellent. Chris was friendly and super helpful. I recently moved in and didn't know much about the furnace, but he checked it all out, showed me everything (like how to light the pilot light, change the filter), and explained what he was doing as he went. I will definitely use them again.
