Description of Work: My appointment was set for some small home repairs and painting, I took the day off and waited. Once the time frame in which they were to arrive passed I called to check to see where they were. I was informed that they had to cancel my appointment (Mind you this is after they were already supposed to be there, I took the day off, I called them and I was leaving for vacation) I told them to cancel and immediately started refund paperwork with Angies List. The owner called me and begged me to allow them to come the next day. I was hesitant, but did go ahead and schedule for the next day. Neither my husband or myself could be there. The outside work was done to our satisfaction, the wall hanging were hung appropriately, but when I entered my room were the drywall patch and painting was to be done I immediately noticed that only 1 coat had been applied to the walls and the trim was not done. When I called them, I was informed that a second coat was not needed and the trim was not needed. Seemed odd to me since I could see the tan color through the wall and the new grey paint was all over the trim. I had had enough. So I spent the weekend after my vacation redoing all of the paint so that my built-ins could be put in.

Description of Work: It's been 2 months now, and with a few rainouts and illnesses thrown in for reasons, nothing has been done. Phone contact is sporadic, and messages rarely get answered. By now it is time to ask if I can get a refund.

Description of Work: Difficult to get in touch with provider. When they arrived to paint, they asked if I had any blue tape- something they should have had. They didn't remove any fixtures and splattered paint all over fixtures, granite and floor.

Customer was not ready to schedule when she first purchased the coupon and stated so in the message center. I reached out to her to schedule her project a couple times and she stated every time that she was not ready. She called to get her project done, I got her right on the schedule. I called the day before her appointment to confirm and she needed to reschedule because she did not have the paint purchased. The workers used drop cloths and BLUE tape to ensure no accidents would happen. Typically things are taped off and not removed. Upon completion the homeowner walked the loft area and the small bathroom in her warehouse style apartment that was painted and went over it with a fine tooth comb. She was very pleased with the work. There was no granite in her home and the workers did everything possible to avoid any smudges/splashed/drips of any sort. If homeowner would like to provide pictures of the said troubled areas to AKRC, we would be happy to take a look at them and assess what action needs to be taken. AKRC Team

The incompleted work the homeowner is referring to was a 4x4 that we installed that was unable to be stained at the time of installation. You cannot stain fresh pressure treated wood. It needs to dry out completely for a couple weeks to be stained or painted. AKRC offered to come back and stain it, in return the homeowner asked if we could fix the hardwoods in her home instead that another contractor had not installed properly. AKRC would have been willing to fix the hardwoods, but at an additional cost, not a trade out for the staining of a 4x4. The non staining of a 4x4 is not justifiable in a $400+ refund that the homeowner is addressing. There was additional work done above the coupon she paid for. Sorry she is unhappy and not willing to see the unfairness in her asking us to fix hardwoods v. staining a 4x4 post. We are still available to stain the 4x4 post to make the job complete that she contracted us for.

I have been asked by Angie's List for the fourth time, to evaluate my experience with your company. As you may well imagine, I do not have glowing things to say. As a matter of fact the over-all rating of "D" seems appropriate to our experience. | |This is what I plan to submit to Angies List if I do not receive reimbursement from the tile specialist who has quoted $50, (alternatively you can send me a text or email about completing it yourself) to make our tile look and function properly: | |Arron is an affable, likable fellow. I had 3 tasks for him: a leaky faucet, adjustment to a new furnace thermostat, and replacement of the faucet set in a bathtub. He said he could handle it all. | |I paid $320 to Aaron although he had not completed any of the three jobs - just messed with them. I had to hire someone else for the thermostat, the leaky faucet doesn't leak but operates strangely (backwards), and the replacement of the faucet set in the bathtub became a nightmare! Two factors with the bathtub faucets were beyond Aaron's control: his wife was having twins (I'm a grandmother and I get this could cause some delay and confusion) and there was some unexpected rot behind the bathtub faucet set. Still Aaron said he had it all under control. | |Our sojourn began on March 19, and ended poorly on May 23. For 2 months we had a torn apart unusable bathroom with pieces of tile and parts strewn everywhere. I tried contacting Aaron numerous ways - phone messages and texts. Finally when I became uncharacteristically threatening (saying I would tell Angie's list), he apologized and did show up. | |Aaron and an assistant said I needed to purchase a lot of extra items, but we did that and it was acceptable. They worked several hours on the tub faucets. | |BUT THEN, after a poor clean up, Aaron quietly left the house without telling us he was going. My husband and I were both there. The worst part was what it all looked like: he had left the strangely off-centered tile only semi-grouted with something other than grout and it was slopped across the tile. I am now going to have to pay someone else - after over 2 months of dilly dallying with Aaron - to clean and grout the tile. If I don't do this we will again have rot behind the faucets! | |I hate writing negative feed-back but I refuse to be taken advantage of. I paid $320 (+ $250 in materials), endured 2 months of mess and the work is still not completed. | |

I personally talked to the homeowner and she stated if we can come out to finish the job that she would not leave said review on AL. Her job was completed on May 22. In the beginning there were 3 jobs that we were contracted for. The thermostat had deeper issues and we advised her that she needed to hire someone that specializes in that area to fix that problem. The other 2 jobs involved the replacement of faucets in 2 bathrooms of a 1970's home that had outdated fixtures she wanted to upgrade. Our team went in behind another contractor that was unable to fix/finish the job for some reason so she hired us to remedy that situation. It wasn't just simple faucet swap out...things went downhill fast. The plumbing was outdated and needed replaced and we believe that is where the first contractor got in over his head. We fixed that problem as well as the rotted wood substructure behind the shower. We advised the homeowner this was extra time and labor, causing multiple visits to her home. In the second bathroom the tile/grout was so outdated and old that it just crumbled at the touch. We advised her that you cannot tile/grout in the same day and this would also be additional time/labor. The homeowner was unreasonable with the price of this job and wasn't willing to pay more than her $320 in the end. AKRC paid $550+ out of pocket for labor for the unforeseen problems that caused the multiple trips to her home. AKRC cleaned up the job and neatly laid the unused materials on the counter for her to return or use in the future if needed. AKRC left when the job was done without notifying the homeowner due to her not wanting to pay additional time/labor and AKRC was simply trying to avoid a verbal altercation. For her to ask for $50 is absolutely unjustified in the fact we are already of $550+ for labor paid out of our pocket including the time lost. She said if we came and finished she wouldn't leave this review, in good faith we finished without being paid. AKRC Team

Description of Work: I contacted AKRC when I originally purchased the deal and both the owner and his wife would call me back to schedule appointments. While they did miss the original appointment, they finally showed up on the second try. When they looked at the job (removing an two old door jambs and hanging new ones with solid core doors, basic carpentry work), we all agreed that the job would exceed the 3 hour max covered by the deal. I agreed to pay for all time over the 3 hours, as well as any materials, and they would come back to start the work when they got the extra wood. I gave them a week before I called to check status and they never responded. Over two months time, I tried multiple times to get in touch with AKRC for service, but they did not respond to any of my calls. I knew that they were ignoring me as I called the same number and got the same voice mail that I contacted them on when I originally purchased the deal. To no avail, and no matter how much I asked for a call back, they would never respond. While all I wanted was some sign of life and that they could at least say that they no longer wanted to do my job, but they continued to ignore me. I end up getting a refund and going with another company which was prompt and responsive to my needs.

Description of Work: I purchased this deal in July and I believe the first appointment was schedule for August 13. When they didn't show up on that day, I called and they rescheduled for August 16. They did not show up on the 16th either. I called and got the answering machine. I left a message asking them what had happened. I received no response, which is why I decided to request a refund.

Description of Work: I realize & appreciate this may be a small business, but that doesnt give a pass for poor service and communication. I purchased the coupon for painting on 6/7/14. Initial contact was made by me after a few days of no contact/confirmation of my appointment requests by AKRC. I submitted the 3 service dates as the site asked and had to re-confirm this with the vendor on 3 occassions with Verena Shehan (book keeper & wife of the owner). Each time I'd call for a status to confirm appt, I'd get voicemail, leave a message & still get no response until after I would call or text back again asking for a status. I was finally confirmed for Friday 6/20/14 10 days after my initial contact. The appt was to start at 9am. I was already feeling unsure of the job by this time, but moved forward. I was advised by Verena Shehan that 2 reps would be present for the job(Jacob & Greg), no mention that Aaron (the owner) would ever be there for the actual job. There wasnt any reason to have 1 supervisor for 2 painters anyway. I preped the house for paint (wife took day off, taped all walls, wall plates removed and furniture moved & purchased my paint the day before). On the day of the confirmed service, I received a text, not a phone call, a text at 8:55am (5 minutes before the service) that they can't make it because Aaron (the owner) was sick. I understood that sickness is unavoidable, but the reasoning didnt make sense since Aaron was not the one who would be present for the job. His name was never mentioned to be present as he was on another job that day. I was advised both Jacob & Greg were sent home (Apparently they close the entire business down when Aaron is sick). This didnt add up to me & although I continued to press as to why Jacob & Greg wouldnt still be available, I was only advised that they were sent home (I hope they are paid salary since one sickness would likely take food off their families' tables) since Aaron couldnt supervise their work. Although I suggested he could come out the next week to check their work, this didnt matter, Jacob & Greg had disappeared by this time according to AKRC and could not be located to come do the work. I was then advised that they were sorry, but that the did cancel another job to complete mine and would reschedule. Not exactly the most professional statement by a business to make you feel that they bent over backwards for a customer. Besides, why was I so special to have someone else's appointment cancelled. Like I said, this didnt add up to me. Verena Shehan suggested I reschedule the next week but we lost the day of work and ended up painting ourselves. I didnt respond or set up another service, but got a quick refund from Angie's List, which was very helpful with my issues.

I apologize again for the sickness. We are a small company and ultimately, have to utilize our personal vehicle and tools. We had a temporary crew at the time that this job was scheduled and have since then, dropped to a 2 man show out in the field. Aaron (owner of AKRC) doesn't just 'supervise' a job. He runs the business from the field side of it and takes pride in the jobs that are performed and completed, working hard to make sure the customer is satisfied. Customer had asked for a quote for 20' walls to be painted, which required an extension ladder and is not included in the coupon purchased. I made it clear to Aaron that the customer was in a time crunch to get the paint job completed, so he made himself available with the truck, tools, and ladder to do this job. Customer didn't inform me that he was no longer interested in the 20' walls being painted. No one lost food from their family's table or wasn't paid for a day that AKRC was shut down. AKRC Team

Description of Work: I purchased a coupon for 18 man hours to have wallpaper in 2 bathrooms removed. They worked for 6 hours with 3 men to complete one bath and part of another. The wallpaper in the first bath was in a bonus room over the garage with lots of angles and on the ceiling. It was stuck well and took longer than expected. They worked hard but couldn't finish. I'll have them back to complete the job as schedules allow.

I called them and was told "we thought it was going to rain so made arraignments for inside work". Nice if I would have been informed.
